“Idiots like me…” 😆. I’ve been scouring the internet for a Speedtimer the last few days. Although I have never really gotten into PVD. Still very cool. This review made me realize, I haven’t watched Space Balls in forever… “I see your Schwartz as big as mine…”
I have a Pulsar PZ 5005 which fits like a glove that I got for $99 from Shiels... The movement is similar to this... The colours on this Seiko are beautiful
Looks gorgeous, though I've always held off of picking up a PVD-coated watch out of concern for its durability. At some point, I'll need to take a chance.
I think about Speedtimers constantly, and they keep making cooler variations lately. A solar chronograph just makes so much sense, and these are so compact!
I'm really not sure how 700-800 USD Seiko can be called ''affordable'' but okay. A size isn't a problem, but a price tag is a headache, and that choice of 21 mm strap is poopy 😀
I've been in lust with the Longines Spirit Chrono with similar green lume for AGES, but it just wears too large. You can bet I snapped this one up in the sale last weekend, for sure 😉 P.S. Accent sounding quite northern with your head cold, Jody!
I've kind of got a flaccid boycott going against Seiko. But I have to admit that this is a REALLY good-looking watch, even though I'm burnt out on chronographs. LOOOVE that it's light-powered (a.k.a. Solar, Eco-Drive) quartz (hint, hint Erebus).
Second the hint. Make me an eco drive Erebus Ascent and I’ll choose it over any gada offering. The lume, the hands… chef’s kiss. The movement… not so much.
Sure. I'm upset with Seiko's blatant price-gouging that started around Covid. An SNXS77, for example went from around $60 to $80 to about $120 in just a couple of years and has pretty much held that price. And the new-logo 5 models going for around $300ish is too high. And Prospex starting at around $500 and quickly eclipsing that and racing toward $1,000? It's insulting. And of course there's the infamous QC issues with alignment (primarily), and relatively cheap bracelets at their respective price points. Seiko has forsaken their base. So now I forsake Seiko. And yes! I'm holding out for an all-brushed (a la the Origin GMT) Ascent or 12-number-dial field watch with purple fumé dial and Eco-Drive movement. Preferably Day-Date. SOLD!
Ouch! Sorry to hear that! Each time I get a new solar watch, I put outside in direct sunlight from morning until around Golden Hour. Early on, though, I learned that they'll get really hot in less than an hour! Ever since, I put them in a clear glass and fill with water to about 1cm above the crystal. 6 or 8 hours like that and you'll get 50% to over 100% charge, and nowhere near overheat. 👍🏼
I have the SSC935P1 variant of this watch, mine has the brushed steel case with light blue dial and the date window is also entirely illegible on that one too. Other than that, I ADORE my Speedtimer.
I have an old (circa 2012) Seiko SNN233 pilot/military chronograph and it's the only black pvd watch I've ever had, I generally don't really like them but that one and this speedtimer are done right, nicely legible and don't look they're made of resin like a G-Shock.
I'm passing on this, BUT Lorier is dropping the Olympia Chrono on Friday the 18th using the Seiko NE88 movement. And it's only $899. I've bought the Hydra about a year ago and absolutely love it. One thing I like about Lorier is that ALL their watches are made for small wrists. I have a 6.25" wrist and I have to pay attention to the diameter and lug to lug measurements all the time. But not with Lorier, just pick a watch and it's going to fit.
I'm considering the Lorier Olympia as well - why don't Seiko put their own NE88 movement in this Speedtimer -that would be an instant purchase for me !
They're on sale for $330 usd in Australia at the moment, I just bought a King Turtle last week but I'm sooo tempted to get this. Only problem is my next watch also ships with divorce papers 😂
I think the speed timers are in everyone's collection or at least on everyone's radar right now. The date window put me off all these larger versions but vaderising the watch has made it less prominent. Very tidy. And WHAT A PRICE.
I've said this before, but watch makers are clearly not going to stop making 21mm or 19mm lug width watches, so why haven't strap makers started making more 21/19mm straps? At this point they're just leaving money on the table.
Ive never owned a 21mm lugged watch and love playing around with various strap combinations, out of interest would a 22mm squeeze in without looking daft, or would a 20mm work without leaving to much gap?? Ive tried fitting 22mm into 20mm lugs in the past and it just doesn't sit well for me.
Looks amazing however my eye keeps being caught by a potentially dodgy 6 index or the markers outside aren't lined up? Seems the 6 line isn't in the middle of the marker, or it's camera angles? Puts me off going for anything above the cheapest seikos...
Personally I love 21mm lug width for the proportions, but I also hate it simply for the lack of compatibility with other straps. Otherwise its a great size.
The Vader music reminds me of the Dance Cocky Dance tune. I even find myself singing it when watching the movies 🤭

It needs some red with the black to be a proper Darth Vader watch, I'm sure you are aware that SEIKO have made licensed SW watches, including a Darth Vader watch :)
the only things that really bugs me when they (any watch manufacturers) place the date between 3 & 4 o'clock and not centered it ....(my ocd just kicks in!!!)...hahah
It's very nice. Are you saying that taking a video of 20 minutes of lume means that it will last 4 to 5 hours when not being videoed? How does it know? 😉
It is too bad this one does not have the bracelet like the smaller Speedtimer variant SSC917. The strap barely fitting would bother me, but the 41mm model would be my preference.
Mmm, Jody, you sound like you are about to be "under the weather" once again. Your voice has that "I'm about to have a cold" sound. Other than that, nice vid!
Unlike other blackouts, at least they make the hands easy to read with the green accents
More like Mercedes AMG Petronas Seiko
Well Espon (as in Seiko Epson) is one of their sponsors 🤔 maybe it’s a little back channel nod to that
Well Epson (as in Seiko-Epson Group) is one of their sponsors so it does kinda fit actually.
real
Yes❤
IWC what you did there

Oooh nooo! Jody's got a cold on his vacation. 🤧

The 39mm version is even better sized, imo. I absolutely love my blue one (SSC815)

the date window is a real Phantom Menace
Would love to see you doing a Swiss railway style watch, super cool history and simple design.
Nailed the review in your most professional manner. I'm actually tempted...
best looking watch I've seen in a long while
Have this watch since launch. Beautiful watch. No regrets. Friends think it costs a lot more than it is.
I've been in lust with the Longines Spirit Chrono with similar green lume for AGES, but it just wears too large. You can bet I snapped this one up in the sale last weekend, for sure 😉

Nice introduction ! There are the minions with harmonicas ? 😄😁

Can I ask the reason for the boycott?
Second the hint. Make me an eco drive Erebus Ascent and I’ll choose it over any gada offering. The lume, the hands… chef’s kiss. The movement… not so much.

Speaking of burning out on chronographs, my panda version of this watch burnt out when it melted in the sun.
So much for solar haha.
Ouch! Sorry to hear that!

Best Kazoo Intro, EVER!!!!!

I like that you can actually see the time clearly unlike most other chronographs 👍
The chapter ring is 1/5 second off to the right (clockwise). Thx 4 review ♥

That intro had me laughing! Love it.
OMG…!!!! That intro was hilarious…!!!!!!!
Congrats on the great deal. Good looking watch. I’m sure you can find a decent 21mm blk rubber strap.
Hey, please do a review of the Timex Expedition North Tide Temp Compass :D
One day somebody needs to make a red luminescence so that it can truly be a Darth
I do like that, was looking at the Pogue but this might do it!
Def my style. Would match my red saber from Disney world. But F Seiko retail prices.
F Seiko prices!
Fabulous looking watch

I gotta ask, is the lume any different/better than the SSC911 you reviewed? I would think they would be roughly the same?
I've said this before, but watch makers are clearly not going to stop making 21mm or 19mm lug width watches, so why haven't strap makers started making more 21/19mm straps? At this point they're just leaving money on the table.
Not my style, but it does look good!
I likey this watch,
and that intro! 🤣👍
Bravo Seiko !!
Feel better soon, mate👊🏻
May the Force be with you 🌎✈️
Consider this the official petition to keep the new intro!
New glasses are cool Jody
The date wheel is quite deep inside make it really difficult to read, I have the watch in Pepsi variant as it was my first salary purchase.
I love watching your videos and MAMACOO to keep myself updated on the world of watches
Looks amazing however my eye keeps being caught by a potentially dodgy 6 index or the markers outside aren't lined up? Seems the 6 line isn't in the middle of the marker, or it's camera angles? Puts me off going for anything above the cheapest seikos...

Loved the intro music, remined me of Space Balls, Great video and shirt,
Hey Jody - can you say 'Plumb Jam'...? 😂😂. Get well soon. 💪
The position of the date window is a big failure. Such a shame for mostly a great watch.
Forget the Darth! The T-Shirt!!!!
I just checked the mainstream prices in Euroland and €700 seems the norm !! (ouch)
The green makes this watch a winner. Would be the worst speedtimer without it.
Great looking watch, the price is pretty steep.
the only things that really bugs me when they (any watch manufacturers) place the date between 3 & 4 o'clock and not centered it ....(my ocd just kicks in!!!)...hahah
That kazoo fest was something else!
The Omega Jedi and now the Darth Seiko. What's next, the Filippo Loreti Sith 🤔?!
I don't know. I think the sub dials should be highlighted more.
Dope. Prefer the SRQ speedtimers still.
People really need just one black watch. Either the Casio F91w or the 5610.
Love it looks great. Also, I just did a thing. Enjoy NY watch show.
It's very nice. Are you saying that taking a video of 20 minutes of lume means that it will last 4 to 5 hours when not being videoed? How does it know? 😉
No need to wait for the strap to soften. Fold the strap in half and roll the fold up and down a few times.
Pagani design dropped a Sanmartin lookalike the PD-1792. Can you please maje a review of that?
Gorgeous watch. More like Return of the Jedi. Cheers.
It is too bad this one does not have the bracelet like the smaller Speedtimer variant SSC917. The strap barely fitting would bother me, but the 41mm model would be my preference.
If I were in the market for a chrono right now, it'd be the new Speedtimer pogue.
Which retailer has this for $500?
I made the mistake of buying Gnomons three hand auto equivalent but just got a 2824-2 powered Pedro from them.
Very nice looking watch. 21mm lug width? No thank you. I made that mistake once before.
Yes
That's Mercedes AMG Petronas Your Ad could be here F1 Team colours!
21mm lug width is a deal breaker for me
Get over the cold Dr Jody
why don't they use the 24h sub dial as a dual time zone
Looks like a homage to the Revelot mecadromo with the same colors 😂
You lost me at 21mm 😂
Yeah, no idea why brands still do that.
Dont pay half of retail... ok, how do we do that???
im not a fan of anything PVD…as they dont usually lasts…but his one looks stunning…
Would anyone recommend me a good cheap GMT watch?
A chrono without a 12 hour register is just silly
60 minute!?!? Come on!!!
I like it … not the 21 strap tho…
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵DAMN thats smoking!
if this were a 39mm, I would get one!
Haircut!
Jodi Noooooo. I've been eyeing this watch, but now with your influence of the force, they will be hard to find.
Mmm, Jody, you sound like you are about to be "under the weather" once again. Your voice has that "I'm about to have a cold" sound. Other than that, nice vid!
The 22 mm lug width is a deal breaker. WTF SEIKO??
Chronographs have never really done it for me, and this isn’t likely to change that anytime soon
Why doesn’t Seiko just sign the crowns 😂
Cause it will cost $500 more 😅
@@luminairistthey do on entry level Presages. But not even on super premium Prospexes. It's just the way they do it. If you don't like, don't buy.
Two wasted features: tachy bezel and 24 hour subdial - or is that the main hour hand that's wasted?
Powerful you have become. The dark side I sense in you!
Ha! I see I'm not the only one Yoda!
Why do companies continue to give us crappy date windows? Either commit to it or don’t do it! What’s the point? lol
Personally I despise d.n. c. I despise. Of course thats subjection. If you like it good for you
Great at that price, black tacc watches are a bit try hard too...😂
Sweet
I'd rather go for a nano universe jdm chrono
Strap looks backwards, no?
That's a Seiko thing.
Only a 7.25" strap ? We ain't all got limp girly wrists mate.
Ohhh... I sense a "how much you bench" coming on... 😉
