I hope you are going to do an 11-11 sale video this year. Every little watch channel does one I know, with the affiliate links highlighted, but I have found yours very useful over the years as someone who buys just a few watches, whereas you have probably bought 100s!
Hey, you can laugh at me. But you won't be when Erebus releases exactly that. I'd take an Erebus Alpinist over this thing any day. I'd really like it to be quartz though. Preferably solar. I've already got a Casio, and a Citizen Dual-time, with internal rotating compass bezel. But I'd like a smaller nicer all-brushed quartz GMT Erebus version.
Your thoughts on the strap kind of sum up the instant gratification attitude that seems to be prevalent. Personally I'd persevere with the original and wear it in, prefer it to the suede. Love that dial though it needs a faceted crystal...
Love me some Seiko Alpinist, got the "Rock Face" European limited edition myself, and I for one used the compass bezel on it at least once (to explain to someone how it works).
Mine is number 821! I love this watch so much I haven’t been able to take it off since I bought it in the Melbourne boutique. Dial is even more stunning in person and outside.
Thank you Jody for bringing my Aussie Limited Edition Seiko Alpinist to life on camera! Love the review! What got me from the start was that Red dial! And after seeing your close up shots It makes me even appreciate it more !! Thanks again for the shout out too !!
I was prepared for you to be reviewing the Presage GMT. But this is a looker! If you are introverted this is not the watch for you! And the suede strap is definitely an improvement. Cheers!
Wow! That red suede strap is a huge improvement over the Seiko supplied one. Nice watch too, it’s a shame it’s an Aussie market only edition. No matter, still love and wear everyday my own Alpinist Ginza limited edition from a few years back. You know, the one you gave dial of the year award to back then 😁
I recently bought an artisan Sydney strap for my wife's PRX 35mm and I can't fault it. Jayson is the owner and his communication is next level. Might be worth doing a video to highlight him with your audience. The strap makes the watch in this case.
Yes Exactly !!! As soon as I saw that strap at Watchfest I felt it was a match made in heaven !!! Artisan Straps are fantastic for both quality and price too in my opinion.
I tried this on at my local Seiko dealer. Not only did the drab dull red not grab me, but the vertical wave pattern didn’t in any way resemble the red earth it’s supposedly meant to (I say that as someone who’s travelled through central Australia). Broader horizontal waves and a price around $1k Aussie would have got me.
I usually don't like alpinists, especially with the cyclops, but this dial really got my attention! Some outback red for the collection, ordered one from a dealer in NZ 👍
I just picked one up from an Aussie retailer, $145 for shipping to the US. Was only $962 USD total though with the current exchange rate, so still cheaper than buying a new, regular alpanist here.
Expressive for what you get. I live in the USA but even the green dial is crazy priced with the 6r movement which is debatable to be any better than the 4R
I'm not usually a fan of this style of watch, but there's something about this one that I find very attractive, cyclops and all. But .... not at that price! Had a good LOL at the sticker comment, nice to meet a YTer with such good manners. 🙂
Wait what? Australia only?! And made with a calf that grew up in Mt. Druitt? Not sure if that made sense. I just looked up most dangerous part of Sydney. Sorry if that’s where you live Jody. 😅. It’s stunning but yeah. Even if they sold it here, not sure I would pay. MSRP. Especially since you have to get another strap for it also. Thanks for the great review though!
I live in the US and I got mine form FIVE FORTY FIVE LTD at a retail price (Australian online Seiko retailer). Excellent service and got the watch at my home in less than 1 week.
As a proud SCVF007 owner, that opening line dissing the OG Red Alpinist cut like a knife 😅 I propose we call this the Ozzy Alpinist to avoid any confusion with the 90s models 😂 great video Jody 👏
The dial is stunning. ⌚ Make it a couple of mm bigger and give it a solar movement, and you'd have to hold me back. 39½mm I could live with, but automatic never. Too bad, it makes me drool. 🤤
Seiko collectors all know that there's usually nothing "limited" about a Seiko Limited Edition. That said red dial with gold numbering in Australia with only 1000 units and the current strength of the Singapore dollar vs Australian will mean a lot of Singaporeans are going to find this and buy them.
I'm not into red. All those alpinists have the cyclops.I don't mind it, you can remove but may look funny and most date wheel text is too small. Good you can read the date at least but no doubt many have copied the Rolly date just on this.
I love red dialed watches, but this I didn't like at all. Until you changed the strap that is. Man, can straps really make a difference! The strap change turned this watch from a tacky, old man's watch into a retro cool watch that you'd wear on a Friday night.
I think it will sell out. It's not for me but. ALI Express sale starts in 6 days time . San Martin have gone to another level with rave reviews across a lot of my U tube watch reviewer's channel's. North of $400 AUD but amazing quality lift
I've found the Alpinists to be a bit over-rated. I have the brown dial, because I couldn't do the green, and it's hard to read the minute track, and only "eh" as far as wearing experience. Worse, the 6R35 movement isn't running that great either, with big positional swings.
It's OK, and I'm probably in the minority, but for a red Seiko I still prefer the looks of the Negroni. I do like the idea of an internal bezel to play with though.
Seiko always finds a way to make a minimal change to an existing watch and jack up the price at least by 50%. Plus you still get stuck with the crappy 6R35 movement. Gave up on Seiko years ago.
I don't see the point of having a compass when you need a magnifying glass to read the degrees. It's a pointless gimmick. I won't get started on the price - but damn!
A little bit thick for a field watch, in my imho, and the war-I mean, the second crown is ugly. In green it gets a passing grade for me, but the red doesn't suit it at all
It's way overpriced, but im not 100% convinced that it's going to come down a lot either. I dont think we'll see it at those sub $800aud prices before it's gone. Then it trades over retail for sure. Though i must admit every time i think i way over paid, i just look at that gorgeous dial and im sucked right back in 😅
Even I, who owns 3 Alpinist, thinks "OMG Why?" The green dial was one stand out back when the original released. The actual watch bezel has a mind of its own. It's interesting but far from the .most practical watch. I'll pass.
I don't know. There's a little too much going on for my taste. If the case is silver, maybe the markers and the hands should be also? Sorry, not handsome enough to tempt me.
IMHO there is one thing that right away puts me off this watch, that cyclops , it looks awful, I am no big fan of date complications, I would rather have no date and no cyclops
Seiko does not sell to enthusiasts. You are not their target market. They sell to the general population and they sell a lot. I get why enthusiasts are “angry” but it’s not going to change the way Seiko does business.

Of course he will, he always does
Nice but not $1,250 nice.
I'm all over it at around $350! I'd still prefer green though.

Very handsome watch. I didn't realize how nice a red dial looks until I recently got a watch with one!
the hottest seiko of 2024 (imho) is due to release in december, that burgundy red prospex speedtimer

Why limited edition, why Seiko, why.???
Cuz even 1,000 is too many for this one.
@@Spectrecontrol Because of marketing.

I've got the standard Alpinist and I love it. The strap took me about an hour to break in and now it's really comfortable.
Like it.. Oooh the Green Dial! Now thats more my speed. Lets see if a nice emerald catches on next year!

A fine looking watch. Nice to see the inner bezel lining up with the minute track unlike my one!

The dial is quite epic. The problem is I do not like the rest of the watch, especially the polishing.
I just picked one up from an Aussie retailer, $145 for shipping to the US. Was only $962 USD total though with the current exchange rate, so still cheaper than buying a new, regular alpanist here.
Enjoy it mate!! Its a great watch and with your strong USD against the AUD you certainly can't go wrong!
"Seikoholics" is the proper term. But this one is indeed enticing.
Beautiful watch! Thanks for the review. 👍

Ox-blood/maroon selections for upcoming Erebus models, please!
Dial and colour comobo reminds me a lot of San Martins Year of the Dragon SN0116. Master learning from the student?

Could you please do a Mini Alpinist review (SPB155 / 157 / 159)? I think you’ll like it.
The white date wheel kills it. No thanks.
As a proud SCVF007 owner, that opening line dissing the OG Red Alpinist cut like a knife 😅 I propose we call this the Ozzy Alpinist to avoid any confusion with the 90s models 😂 great video Jody 👏
I've been wanting a red dial in my collection, but that price and case size just aren't hitting the right notes.
Heimdallr Monster 42mm $144 USA cheaper option although this Seiko is a beauty
Jody I am keen for the Green one (I am in Brisbane) Where can I find that for $ 800.00?
I'll still with my Orange Fume Ascent thank you very much! 😎
The dial is stunning. ⌚ Make it a couple of mm bigger and give it a solar movement, and you'd have to hold me back. 39½mm I could live with, but automatic never. Too bad, it makes me drool. 🤤
Good for Christmas !!!
Ha! Perfect.
Always a good day when your video drops!Great video as always. Can’t beat it for MAMACOO watches!
I own a SARB017 (no cyclops colour matched date) and while I love the dial on this model I feel that the cyclops and white date are just overbearing.
Seiko collectors all know that there's usually nothing "limited" about a Seiko Limited Edition. That said red dial with gold numbering in Australia with only 1000 units and the current strength of the Singapore dollar vs Australian will mean a lot of Singaporeans are going to find this and buy them.
Ooooh, that textured dial is sweet. But I'm just not sure about the cyclops over the date. That's trying too hard I feel.

The T-Shirt!!!! Hahahaa Love it!!
A bit of a Faberge vibe going on. Neat idea
It's definitely sharp but for the money I'll be buying the much better spected Erebus
I still like the Dutch Hallo m8 😃👍.
It's very nice
Very cool. But it ain't an Alpinist if it ain't green.
Ha! What about the cream ones that everyone loves?
Also very cool. Also, ain't green... It's like a blue or yellow Ferrari. Absolutely beautiful, for sure! But it's not Rosso Corsa...

I've already seen photos online of these with misaligned bezels, its wild how Seiko QC is still awful in 2024.
I've found the Alpinists to be a bit over-rated. I have the brown dial, because I couldn't do the green, and it's hard to read the minute track, and only "eh" as far as wearing experience. Worse, the 6R35 movement isn't running that great either, with big positional swings.
The Mad Watch Collector said the hottest Seiko of 2024 was the Pogue chronograph. You two are going to need to come to some sort of consensus here. 😄
Lovely! But too $pendy!
Marc sells a beautiful dark red Fleiger on a really nice red leather band for somewhat less than $1300.
It's OK, and I'm probably in the minority, but for a red Seiko I still prefer the looks of the Negroni. I do like the idea of an internal bezel to play with though.
Not gonna lie…that dial alone makes me want to pay the premium. I’m sure Seiko knows that….

Boring old Seiko. Too much money for too little watch. Citizen or Ali Express are much better these days!
Pretty much. Especially vs Citizen. Citizen understands titanium and bracelets. AND solar!
