    From buying the DSLR Camera to learning how to operate the camera in manual mode, capturing countless pictures, light trails, portraits, landscapes, flash photography etc., now to capturing stunning time lapses of sunrises & sunsets. You sir, have been my tutor all along from 2016. I am forever grateful to you. Because of you, I could revive my all time hobby of learning photography, but couldn't do it due to the lack of motivation and a right tutor. Until Now. Thank you.

      Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) I started this channel for one reason - to help people and your post reaffirms my efforts - TY!:) Photography is a creative outlet for me and I suspect the same for most. As we face various challenges throughout life, it is nice to grab a camera and head out to freeze time ... relax, enjoy, and have some fun!:)

      RealWorld Yes I agree with what you’ve said, no matter how many challenges we face in life, it’s great to freeze a moment with a great photograph or a video.
      Here’s one of the best time lapses I have captured.

    You, Sir, are an excellent teacher. I suspect you've already gleaned that from the massive amounts of thankful comments you receive. Please keep up the excellent work! I am a new "convert" from film to digital. Felt like I had to relearn photography from the bottom up. I own a D3500 so your D3400 tutorials are right on. Can't imagine re-learning all this without your assistance! Thanks again for your painstaking tutorials! You're the best!

    Sir, You are the MAN!
    Your lack of hype is so refreshing! Thanks so much for not hawking products, those of manufacturers OR your own, (Even your NAME!)
    After a 35 yr photo semi~ hiatus, I find myself getting immersed in this new fangled digital photo~age and you're making it a highly educational and pleasant experience!
    One more thing I find astounding is that you seem to reply to every comment!
    Truly a great teacher and a Blessing!
    . Thanks again! Greg aka SMKNLZRD

      Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) Much appreciated!:) I started this channel to help a few friends and discovered others were benefiting from the knowledge share:). I have a strong background in technology, information security, and photography and decided to help others. The main focus has been on photography but I will expand into other areas of technology/security at some point. Why photography? Photography has always been a creative outlet for me ... the ability to freeze/capture time to view later is awesome in my opinion:). In addition, I see the big manufactures overselling their products to make money when most people do not need more whatever - they simply need a better understanding of the basics. Armed with the fundamentals, any given photographer with passion for the trade can/will capture awesome moments to satisfy their own creative needs ultimately making for a better world:). I do my best to help anyone with a question. We all go through peaks and valleys with regards to various hobbies ... welcome back to this great and wonderful world of photography!:)

    I can't thank you enough for this video tutorial. It's amazing, that I have just bought a Nikon D3400 just a week ago, and was wondering if there was a way that I could do time lapses with it, since it wasn't mentioned in all of the description of it's abilities, and here I ran across your video in the suggested videos, of how to do time lapse photography with my exact same new camera ! lol. I couldn't be more surprised and happy. :-)
    I have saved this video by making it a new playlist on my channel, so that I can study it thourouly later on. I had no idea that my camera had an internal remote sensor, and didn't even know about that app for Nikon cameras. I thought that I would have to purchase one of those remote control things that you talked about at first.
    And although I have a good android smartphone, I think that I might still want to get one of those remote shutter triggers, because I have noticed that my smartphone will shut down sometimes even after I set it to stay on.
    I am more interested in doing time lapses of the stars and night skies, so I would love to see a video from you on fixing all the settings on this camera for that, being that I just bought it and know very little about it. Hopefully you will show us how in another video, to get the settings down perfect for that, with this D3400.
    Thanks again so very much, and I definitely went ahead and subscribed to your channel. Much happiness and peace to you ! :-) ✌

      Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) One quick note - the application will keep your screen active so the phone will not enter sleep mode:). Shooting the stars sounds like another good idea for a video ... stay tuned as I may add it to my list!:)

    I generally record a 1080p/60fps video and then increase the speed in some editor. But this technique will be very useful when doing a night sky/galaxy time lapse for greater details.

    _Visits another channel and see's a question about time lapse videos/photos._
    *Googles time lapse*
    _See's a RealWorld Video in the top results_
    For once I'm glad handing over 'all of my personal data' 😂👌
    I only briefly glimpsed through the video but I do like the results - I might try it out myself since I actually have a spare phone lying around so I wouldn't have to use my personal phone for the job 😁
    I'm trying to gather up some exercises to try out and simply get some more basic knowledge about the camera.
    This is one great example of what I think is a proper exercise 👍
    Great video Mark!

    +RealWorld Something you didn't note in the video is that this app requires a phone or tablet with an IR blaster on it. Its not a wireless connection as in wifi or bluetooth. No apple devices have an IR blaster and the only ones I know of are Samsung.
    Another option for those who don't have a Samsung device with an IR blaster is the Alpine Labs Pulse remote that fits in the hot shoe. Its a bit pricey but compatible with the D3400 along with most other body's and works both with Android and Apple and once you program it to take the shots, you can put your phone away.
    Great video though. I've learned a lot from your tutorials. Specifically back button focus. Changed my life.

    Do you use any other prompts than those brief notes? Running time? Some details? Your delivery speed is brilliant and you always cover everything. I’m sure if you’d been around when I was first learning photography, rather than the moody older brother I had, my journey into photography would have been a lot smoother. Some 44 years later he's still moody, but there’s TH-cam now.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback Mark - appreciated!:) My paper notes are all I have:). Sometimes I have multiple takes to get the delivery down, and other times I try to clear my mind and let it flow. More often than not, I have multiple takes. I thought about putting them in various videos at the end as some are laughable. My journey with TH-cam started by wanting to help my brother better understand his camera:).

    Time lapse photography very well explained. However I have Nikon D3500 instead of 3400 and it doesn't have remote photography option in the camera. Snapbridge can be used for shutter release but it doesn't have time interval option. Therefore, I am not sure how to do what you have done using D3400. Would you mind making a video specifically for D 3500 ?

    • @RealWorld

      Nikon D3400 intervalometer/shutter release
      Hello everyone,
      I’m an intermediate photographer with experience in 35mm film with the D3400 being my first DSLR
      I'm wondering if i can use Nikon D3300/3200/3100 intervalometer/shutter release (that got a Mini USB type b cable) with my D3400 (which got a Micro USB port type b) by using a mini USB type b female to micro USB type b male cable/adapter?
      Should it work or no???
      Is that shutter compatible with my D3400 if i transformed its cable to Micro USB type b instead of Mini USB type b and plug it into the camera?
      Help me please to make my first timelapse 😭

    How did you get no flicker? Did you have the aperture maxed out? All the timelapses I've tried on controlled indoor environments suffer from aperture flicker which is super frustrating! From what I've read it's due to the nature of the aperture mechanics in Nikon Lenses which doesn't occur in Canons

    Been watching your videos for months and finally bought my first camera a while back, learned so much from your videos! I bought a Nikon d3500, but can I get a timer to work with this camera to take time lapse? I hope so as I won’t be buying another camera anytime soon! Thanks in advanced, keep the content coming :)

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post/feedback James and welcome to the wonderful world of photography!:) The D3500 is a solid/capable camera:). The best method for time lapse with the camera is using an OTG cable and cell phone. I created a video on this effort which can be found here - th-cam.com/video/QF3gugula7M/w-d-xo.html ... a few subscribers have confirmed the method works with the D3500.

    Nice video. But can you explain how the camera remote app gets connected to the camera?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the post/question:). the application leverages the IR (wireless) sensor on the phone to connect to wireless sensor on the camera. note: not all phones have an IR blaster (the galaxy s5 does (featured in this video)) nor do all cameras have an IR sensor (the D3400 does but the D3500 does not).

    An app called qDslrDashboard works very well with the D3400. The desktop version is free but you have to pay for the android/IOS version. I have the android version of the app. Plugin an OTG cable and you can do time lapse like in the video. The app will allow you change the settings of the camera, liveview and a few other things. I would recommend downloading the free desktop version and playing around with it first. Make sure your happy with the app before paying for it as it wasn’t a cheap app for my android phone.

      I found it after Windows movie maker started driving me up the wall.
      Shotcut is really simple to use, can even do green screen apparently, and fantastic for chucking clips together and adding some music, text etc. It doesn't have to be as hard as Movie Maker makes it!!!
      I got Adobe Premier Pro recently but haven't had a chance to learn how to use it. I opened it and went "holy crap". Need to watch some more videos lol.
