Firstly, as a Canadian of Korean ancestry thank you for making a recipe with a nod to my ancestry and Korean ingredients like gochujang. Secondly, I think it's important to clarify that these are Korean flavour inspired. Meatballs are not a part of Korean cuisine, nor is plum jam. This is not criticism, but just feedback to avoid confusion from subscribers. These look yummy.
Hahaha "get your hands in there and gently rub your meat" - I now have coffee coming from my nose after hearing that little gem. Good recipe Jack, I'll definitely try that out, when I have recovered my composure 😂😂💕👌👏
You have the best cooking videos on TH-cam by far you explain everything perfectly you cut to the chase no bs just straight up great cooking love the videos mate been watching since you had a few thousand subscribers great to see how far the channels come
These look incredible! Thank you for sharing this recipe. Also, love your presentation. You always make the plate the shining factor. Can’t wait for your next meals/recipes!
Always great recipes and very well explained. 👏Just the other day, I had a couple of people over for a Barbie and I cooked your creamy mushroom sauce. They’re were impressed, thank you...
Thank you so much for this recipe! Can't wait to try it! Just wanted to know what would be good alternatives to the plum jam and gochunjang. Strawberry jam and sriracha, perhaps?
Tqvm chef for your lovely and super useful recipes. Appreciate it to share your experiences with these unique recipes for us. 🙏🏻❤️ If possible can please post how to bake original Japanese Cheese cake too? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Jack just want to say thank you for sharing your recipes and videos I have learnt so much from you and I think your a legend in the kitchen 😉 also could you please 🙏 tell me the size of your Essteele pot you are using. Thanks again Jack and I am going to try your Korean balls this weekend 👍
The ginger and onion flavors marry perfectly and these are very tender meatballs.. I ate mine with side of rice and used the left over sauce in rice as leftovers the next day.
I live in Korea and was flinching until you finished making your meatballs. Why? I was expecting sugar to be added to the meat mixture. But no! Relief! I can make my own sauce to go with this! 👍
My mouth was watering watching this -- then you threw in that Korean Spice Paste -- no such animal on my island -- no plum jam either (any ideas for substitution?). Also, thanks for the tip re using white vinegar in the absence of rice wine vinegar (never knew that).
Hey Jo! Like Ray said, Miso is a great substitute. You can also use sriracha sauce which is bit more spicy or Thai chilli paste but these are going to change the flavours a lot. As for the jam, you can use apricot jam or hoisin sauce but again using hoisin sauce is going to change the profiles a lot. Either way, it will still be very tasty 😋
@@ChefJackOvens Thank you for your reply - looks like it's going to have to be Soy Sauce and Chilli sauce since we don't have Thai chilli paste or Hoisin sauce either. Nor do we have Sriraco sause or Miso, But we DO have apricot jam (yay). Please would you be so kind as to tell me how the ratio of Soy Sauce to Chilli Sauce - or is it half and half? Many thanks for getting back to me.
The thing I love the most in your videos is your explanation for everything you do.
So happy that you appreciate that 😊
You just make my day Jack.
Comments like these make mine too! Thanks Stuart!

Thank you so much for this recipe! Can't wait to try it! Just wanted to know what would be good alternatives to the plum jam and gochunjang. Strawberry jam and sriracha, perhaps?
You’re very welcome. Apricot jam would be the best substitute and sriracha is good too 😊
@@ChefJackOvens Wow thanks! Apricot jam sounds a lot better and should be a lot easier to find than Plum jam for me. Cheers from India, chef!
These meatballs look amazing!
Thank you Betty 😊
What a great recipe Jack, I can't wait to try it.One question though, how do you know ginger in the eye stings? Weren't you careful? 🤣
Please enjoy it Johanna! Yeah haha, I work with Ginger nearly everyday and it does most of the time get me haha 😂
Now on the hunt for the Korean sauce
It’s very easy to get hold of. Not sure where your located but it should more than likely be at your local supermarket. 😊
@@ChefJackOvens Hi Jack - Tynemouth. Will have look in big 4 and see what I can find. All best mate.
Oh, holy cow. I made this today and it is really good! Hot and slightly sweet. Just delish.

Haha 😂
Gently rub your meat 😂😂
Thank you.
It’s my pleasure!
Mmmm yum, soooo tasty! 👌
so chilling and nice video :)
Thank you 🙏
Just a quick question, can the Plum jam be replaced by any other jam or another product entirely ?
You can use apricot jam or hoisin sauce. If you use hoisin sauce it will be a very strong flavour 😊
I live in Korea and was flinching until you finished making your meatballs. Why? I was expecting sugar to be added to the meat mixture. But no! Relief! I can make my own sauce to go with this! 👍
🙏🙏🙏
What supermarket are you getting the Korean ingredients from? I don't recall seeing anything like this in tesco or asda
I don’t live in England, I live in Australia. Knowing tescos though they should definitely have it in the Asian section.
very nice
That sauce you use, is it hot? Does it contain ant nuts? Allergies! Can that sauce be purchased in the states? Thank you! September 12, 2022
Brilliant
Cheers Charles 😊
Yeah! Lets go champ Jaaaaaaaack!
Thats what im Talking about!!!!!! Meat! Hmmmmmm mniam mniam.
Pozdro Jack
Thank you Adam!

any substitute for the plum jam?
You can use apricot jam but if you don’t want to use jam you can use hoisin sauce but it will be a very strong flavour
@@ChefJackOvens excellent, i have some apricot jam :) thanks for replying
made them this week with the apricot and it went down a storm!
beautiful
Yummy 😋
So so good 🤤🤤
How can I relax with something so delicious in front of me
Sorry not sorry Roy 😉 Hope you’re well mate 🙏
@@ChefJackOvens I am, hope you’re a staying safe too chef!
That’s good to hear! I’m very well thank you 🙏
can you give the temp in gas mark
I recommend 85% lean/15% fat ground beef for best result. Too lean and you risk meatballs drying out.
Jack I ❤U🤭
🙏🙏❤️
Why have I just found you?
Welcome Sarina! Please enjoy the channel 😊🙏
Do the Koreans use olive oil to cook their foods!!??
I’d say no. They mainly use nut, sunflower, canola and vegetable oil but due to the fact that I always use olive, I decided to use it.
@@ChefJackOvens Thank you for the update, I was thinking the same.
Worst thing about cooking is washing the dishes later😭
Haha definitely 🤗
Tee hee...
😉👌
Without serving rice and kimchi on the side, it isn't truly Korean. Btw, my Korean friends have never heard of it eten Korean meatballs.
Korean inspired flavours into meatballs
Went to 5 different stores, including an Oriental Market. No plum jam. Bummer. Might have to try apricot.
Apricot works really well
