On the other hand, you got people like Christopher Lee, who despite being a great actor was much more fascinating and cool as a person:
    - Fought the Nazis in WWII in British special forces
    - Cousin of Ian Fleming and partial inspiration for the character of James Bond
    - Collector of special forces insignia from all over the world
    - Accomplished swordsman, credited with the most on-screen swordfights of any actor
    - Featured in over 300 films
    - Good friends with Peter Cushing, Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Peter Jackson
    - Met J.R.R. Tolkien and, ironically, got his personal permission to play... Gandalf
    - Briefly dabbled in singing opera, recorded metal albums well into his 80's

What was the movie you were talking about? Since the movie where he portrayed Kaufman, I have started to see some irreparable changes in him. It makes me kind of sad seeing him now, it has the classic sad clown story written all over his face. So sorry for him, I grew up with his movies and he was my favorite. Hopefully, he won't get any worse (he exudes those Robin William's kind of vibes, and this scares me a lot).

    • @84Elenai
      @84Elenai 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@leeroberts4850 I didn't mean to compare them as actors, nor was I comparing their body of work (or "icon" status). You sound upset. If I said something upsetting, I apologize.
What I meant is that they both have the sad clown story and appearance, which includes addiction, depression and overall human emotional struggle, and this makes me sad if I think about how much they helped me overcome bad times through their comedy and talent.
But you are right, Robin died for different reasons. Nonetheless, in his last few years, when he was invited to talk shows, etc., I could always spot in his eyes and facial expressions a dark shadow, the tension and sadness of a funny life that feels like it's already gone. I see the same on Jim's face and I feel that.
Sorry but English is not my first language, hopefully my comments are still understandable and clear.
      Take care :)

Read about Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison in The Doors movie.
They told him he had to be ready in a couple of months and he said "No, give me a year"
In that year he moved to Venice beach, got the apartment NEXT to Jim Morrisons old apartment, stayed in leather pants 24/7, and the best part.... when people came up to him to talk to him he would deny his real identity.
Fan: Hey Val!! Val: Who? Im Jim.
this guy lived exactly like him for a whole year. Even members from the doors on set felt like they were watching Jim Morrison live again! Really amazing, but after the movie he developed some not so good habits and he said it really changed his life. Pretty Interesting.

I think a lot of wrestlers end up adopting their stage persona as their permanent personality. If you think about it, it makes sense. An actor plays different roles throughout their career. But a wrestler only has one persona, and fans permanently identify them as that person.

People assume many characters during life, especially if they have multiple jobs that they perform. The 'main character' that people perform as is themselves, though that is a bit of a nuanced personality as people do not possess a definitive 'character'.
For example I can not say precisely 'Who I Am'. I know how I act in front of other people, and present myself differently depending on the situation. At work I am a fairly jovial fellow, cracking jokes, bantering with my coworkers, all in an effort to create a enjoyable environment. I am basically playing in a way to make the day more fun.
Yet when I am by myself, I become more introverted, meditative, contemplating a wide array of subjects and topics. One of my favorite pastimes is to study words, specifically the semantics of them, their origin, and speculating on how to united the original meanings of words, with the modern usage. I also like to visualize examples where the words can be used to describe the world. Though I guess the primary goal of the activity is philosophical as well as theological.
So in a way I feel like the wise man playing the fool at times, or perhaps the other way around, and for some reason I find such a dichotomy to be hilarious. Cause I know that I am different then what I portray to people...Kind of how you act differently when dealing with children.

My mother met Andrew Dice Clay in the lobby of a hotel (in Manhattan) once as she was checking out and he was apparently checking in. It was right after he'd been kicked off of Celebrity Apprentice, and she commented something to him about having been following the show. And he politely chit-chatted with her about it for a few minutes. Didn't seem at all annoyed at being recognized and approached by some random woman in her 60s (at the time). If he was annoyed at anything it was the fact that he'd been eliminated from the show and he seemed to kind of appreciate the chance to vent about it a little bit to a complete stranger.
