I'm Californian, and all those "Californians" are not from California. They come to California, like Rogan, then move on to other places. In truth, they're just American. But I am curious about this: Would conservative policies solve the homeless crisis? Are liberals causing homelessness? If all cities and states adopted "conservative policies" towards homelessness and drug treatment would homelessness evaporate? From my perspective there are a number of issues here: 1.) lack of housing and cost of housing. 2.) low paying jobs. 3.) income inequality. 4.) drug addictions and treatment options. What policies, conservative or otherwise can eliminate homelessness?
@@timeslot09 I would think so because it's an industry to "help" the Homelessness. Even Rogan once mentioned people make millions running charities. I love how Joe moved to Texas to get away from California, but then he basically moved to the San Francisco of Texas.
Ha! I live in San Francisco lol they have cleared most all of the homeless encampments from the last year under all the freeways, near them, on major streets and in LA too. They have cleared them out of Venice etc. areas and I can tell you homeless people are never an issue in San Francisco where I go. Are you in San Francisco? Sounds like Austin Texas has a homeless problem to me, my home is still over 1.67 MM in the neighborhood median sales price. Things have leveled out, we got rid of a ton of out of town hipsters and they went back to Texas , Arizona and Nevada lol
Distance is the best strategy against most threatening situations.
Pro tips for dealing with sketchy areas:
1) avoid these areas if at all possible
2) don't look anyone in the eyes
3) don't draw attention to yourself or make sudden movements
4) keep distance, move swiftly and with purpose
5) stay alert of your surrounding and always mentally plan out an escape route
Or... be alpha.
*or just carry a gun
@@senderoverland Always. Doesn't negate the other tips.
@@TEAMGETHELP Nothing I suggested is not "being alpha." Looking for trouble isn't alpha, it's just dumb. I am fully capable of defending myself and anyone I'm with, but if I can blend in and be inconspicuous I'm always gonna start with that. Looking dangerous people you don't know in the eyes invites unnecessary aggression and usually causes them to speak to you, which I'm not trying to do lol. Those encounters either escalate to them asking you for money or saying something like "Whatcha looking at (expletive)?"
Purposeful, goal directed movements is all I'm suggesting. If someone does get in your face, then look them in the eyes and stay calm. My go-to is to diffuse tension with humor and that usually works. All out confrontation is the last thing you want because then you gotta stick around and wait for the cops to show up and arrest you after you shot some drugged up idiot.
Wow this story is so surreal to me. I swear I had literally the same thing happen to me ON THE EXACT SAME STREET, except there was no dude on a bike. But the two guys blind side punched me instead of getting in my face when I tried to walk past them by stepping off the sidewalk. I had to run away while receiving punches and kicks. Wouldn't it be crazy if it was the same two guys? It's amazing how similar this situation was to mine.
Huh...It’s almost a pattern. Or a trend.....
If only we could acknowledge that such a patterns of violence exist....But we know better than to offend the criminals by calling-out their behavior....Right?
Guest: I just kind of walked around and swallowed all pride and just went.. full run.
Joe: that's a good move.

As a former Capitol Metro bus driver.
Yeah, I used to drive route 17 through downtown. We call it the homeless route.
Stay away from Red River and 7th street, mostly in that area.
As a former bus driver in Austin, TX I was used to it.
I have been threatened a couple of times, but the citizens of Austin help out. Sometimes the other homeless help out.
"dont go down 6th"
....forgetting to mention the (over capacity) homeless shelter is on 7th :-X I seen some of them dudes sleeping on the sidewalk on a 110* day, I don't have the bones for that, them dudes is hard as hell.
@A D "I never seen homeless people as fit as they are in austin my whole life" - Ronnie B
Guessing the hotel was on 7th and the hotel employee didn't want to say "avoid 7th"
Seriously, when I realized where he was, I knew he was at ground zero of the homeless zoo that is 7th & Red River. I imagine being a visitor walking up on that would be terrifying
I visited the city a few times over the last five years, and the issue downtown seemed to be getting worse and worse. They told me also to avoid that particular area two years ago. I didn't have any issues, but maybe it was luck.
Btw, shout out to y'all Capital Metro people. Friendly drivers commited to their job!
I'm a native Texan from the gulf coast area around Beaumont and Houston. I've been to Austin maybe five times in my life. I've walked on 6th street maybe once years ago. SxSW wasn't around yet. I think I will stay in Houston.
I’m a Texan and just left Austin a year ago today. Austin was always a safe wonderful city until the invasion of Californians. I worked on east 6th for years. Austin is a liberal city but it is now over run by leftist Californian politics and it turned into a crime ridden city. I left because of that reason. I miss what Austin use to be.
Yup, absolutely true 👍
I'm Californian, and all those "Californians" are not from California. They come to California, like Rogan, then move on to other places. In truth, they're just American.
But I am curious about this:
Would conservative policies solve the homeless crisis? Are liberals causing homelessness? If all cities and states adopted "conservative policies" towards homelessness and drug treatment would homelessness evaporate?
From my perspective there are a number of issues here:
1.) lack of housing and cost of housing.
In Houston we help but don't enable the Homelessness. They actually have alot of public assistance if they tap into it. I'm trying to help a homeless elderly women get her SS income, food stamps, and Affordable care. Services exist we just need social workers who care and willing to go through the steps. The cost of living is too high in liberal states. That would cause Homelessness overtime. Here we decide where to spend our money in California the government decides to tax you and spend it for you. The government spends money less responsibly then the average American.
@@Nachos237 People can't spend money if they don't have money. Then how about government giving money to the people, like a UBI? If indeed, the average American spends more responsibly.
@@timeslot09 I actually don't disagree with UBI. It's more so government spending on projects and over paying to government vendors and contractors. To much pork in spending. I rather see UBI then all the other wasteful government spending.

Joe List is one of my favorite comedians.
“Hit her in the face with a surfboard.... and then the duck fell out of his bag”
Comedy!!!
I'm an Austin Lyft driver and whenever I take people down to 6th Street on the weekends I drop people off on 5th and Trinity that's the safest spot for you to be dropped off and picked up at the end of the night
From my experience in London, its best not to cross the street or show any fear just keep walking and say whats up. People pick up on fear and target you if they sense it, otherwise they leave you alone.
Or they play the knockout game as they pass you and take your wallet. 2021 is different

yeah this guy was def in bitch mode before he even got out of his lyft. like he was terrified to walk around by himself. Kind of hilarious but also pretty sad.
Joe: "You can't stop people from walking."
Australia: "Hold my beer".
I'm glad Joe validated what he did. I think the guy may have thought Joe was going to make light of him but time and time again Joe has said that street fights are crazy, you never know what could happen.
You can get stabbed as easily as getting punched.

This has overtaken all our cities in some way even the economic powerhouses like Austin, Nashville, and Denver. This is what happens when you completely ignore mental health in a country.
Riiiight...
Yeahhh....mental health is the issue *eyeroll*
@@NotAGovernmentAgent I don’t understand. Have you ever seen a homeless person? 99% of the time they are mentally ill or a drug user.
Homeless have always been in economic powerhouses because of capitalism! Only commie countries with mass housing have no homeless! Why does everyone obsess over homeless people in a capitalist country!?
@@sebastianlassus912 Exactly my point
Joe's a good dude. I like watching his videos. He is a genuine good guy.
I agree.
Which joe?
Austin: All the problems of San Francisco without the perks of weather, food, or scenery.
Avoid the fight if you can... unless you actively have to defend yourself or a loved one.
There was no danger here. This guy was just scary. Black people are not just walking down the sidewalk looking for random white people to terrorize. Why would he just walk in the street because he seen two black guys owing down the sidewalk? That is a racist trope and he sounds full of shit. This is the shit that gets us killed for nothing.
But he can go on Joe Rogan and mischaracterize the situation. I would like to hear the other side of this story. This guy sounds overdramatic.
Whenever you feel threatened quickly pull your pants and underwear down to your ankles....... works everytime.
