Like him? Oh, you have no idea!
The first time I saw Saul, I just thought him to be a sort of comic relief and, just as you said it, a great counterpart to the more serious characters that are there (and some even more serious characters that are going to be introduced;-) And I had no idea that this is going to be one of my most beloved characters on TV like EVER!
Moreover, the creators themselves had no idea that they had created one of these special characters that touch hearts of millions of viewers. It was like lightning in a bottle. And with Breaking Bad characters the screenwriters did it like over and over again.
I cannot write too much, but you can just observe that on one hand, Saul can be quite compassionate - commenting how the world outside the prison hadn't been kind to Jimmy In and Out, on the other, it is Saul who quickly jumps into conclusion that the best way to solve a situation is to get rid of Badger. So, essentially, the screenwriters were able to create a character who, in his third scene, suggests murdering a man... And make such a man a likable figure.
And I strongly advise you to watch his TV commercials - they are available on youtube as well - they are both hilarious and outrageous. You can comment on these as well.

The intro of this episode is brilliant. It plays off your willingness to believe Badger only to give you a very convincing performance from the cop that he wasn't a cop, fooling also the audience. Then it does a double uno reverse when it turns out that he is a cop. That's Vince Gilligan doing what he does best, adverting expectations. It's like how you might tell a great joke, except it's used for good storytelling instead.

35:10 Interesting point by Pudgey. There have been several subtle clues throughout the series that would suggest that Walter secretly enjoys the competition Hank provides. But more like you said, set up random character names so you have actual plot points that make sense when rewatching the original.
So many other shows don't do that and then when they make a prequel. Suddenly you get characters that nobody has ever mentioned once but suddenly they are vital to the plot.

32:13 "He started speaking Mexican" 😆😆😆 lmao and he was dead serious too lmao there's no way 😆😆😆 anyway... "Siemre, siempre soy amigo del cartel" in spanish it says "I'm always, always a friend of the Cartel". So, he probably was involved in some heavy shit that he barely got out of.

Saul was originally intended to be a one-off character but he was so wildly popular he became a regular in BB & then they figured out how to build a whole prequel series around him for BCS. he's the ultimate case of accidental success.

Common mistake, but yea guys Mexicans indeed speak Spanish! Albeit it’s a different dialect with its own flavor but it’s still Spanish. And Spanish is also commonly spoken in the US as well, especially in states like Texas!

Bob Odenkirk (Saul) is a comedy legend, in addition to being a damn good actor. In the late 80s he was an SNL writer when that show got a second wind, and in the 90s he and comic Dave Cross had a sletch show called" MR SHOW" on HBO that Vince Gilligan was a big fan of... which eventuslly lead to Vince thinking of Bob for Saul

25:05 The "you idiot" clip, recorded obviously by a person who is himself an idiot, was uncomfortable to see inappropriately inserted into this video. Meanwhile, Spartan doesn't know they speak Spanish in Mexico. And he doesn't understand the purpose of making Walt and Jesse official clients so that Saul can't be forced to testify against them. Then again, you both seem to think the cartel kidnaps Walt and uses him in narcocorrido videos, so there's that. 🙂
