One very important thing to know about this show is that Tarja was actually very sick with both the flu and a throat infection and couldn’t even sing earlier that day in rehearsals. So the fact that she pulled out THIS kind of performance and sang so beautifully through the whole concert is doubly incredible!

This concert was 2005 , which explains the lack of cell phones. This was in Helsinki and was Tarja's last show with the band. She was the only one on stage that didn't know that. After the show ,they gave her the open letter dismissing her from the band. Floor has never sung this with Nightwish. She did sing this on the Dutch TV show Beste Zengers with Henk Poort (Dutch Phantom). Henk was supposed to joined them in The Netherlands to do this, but postponements happened when the world shut down. I've heard that Andrew Lloyd Weber, who wrote the song, called this his favorite, or one of his favorite, versions of the song. Another song from this show is their cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes in which Marko is lead vocal (Tarja was off stage for a wardrobe change).
I have a feeling the band and Floor and Marko never performed this live to allow Tarja to have a piece of Nightwish as her very own. This song was my introduction to Nightwish. Because of that, Tarja holds a special place in my heart and soul. Floor could do this song as we have seen on Beste Zangers, with Henk Poort. Floor owes Henk a guest appearance singing Phantom with Floor and Nightwish. That was the deal he made with her for doing the duet on BZ. I really want that to happen!!
Just a small correction: by 2005 95% of Finns had a cell phone (it's the Nokia country). I got mine 1993. But I don't know when ordinary cell phones got the video function in them.

She is such an amazing artist. Please check her solo stuff like Supremacy (Muse cover) and Victim of ritual from Woodstock 2016 and End of all hope with Nightwish in the Summer Breeze Festival 2002.
I think that Tarja is spectacular and most people only keep the songs that she sang with Nightwish but she has a very versatile solo career and unfortunately little known because there is a prejudice that Tarja only sings opera and that she does not transmit feelings But those of us who know her know that this is not true. maybe you can hear something from his solo career as victim of ritual, dead promises, dark star, in for a kill, anteroom of death, etc
This duet is interesting not only because of Marko's raspy vocal and Tarja's very clean vocal, but also that Tarja's voice timbre is darker than Marko's. :)
For old Nightwish with Tarja i strongly suggest just going through the "From wishes to Eternity" concert, that thing just shows to perfection why so many people loved them when they came out. The End of an Era show was great. Sleeping sun from this show is as you say amazing. I think I even like the live Tarja version better than Floor doing it.
Nightwish is able to make awesome cover songs. They take a song, drop a little Nightwish magic powder on it and the end result is like this you just saw. They did many cover songs on "Tarja era," but not after that. I think Tuomas plays a big role in why they are such successful cover songs. His ability to customize songs to suit Nighwish. He clearly has a touch of Midas! Another cover from the same concert in 2005 or actually a tribute to Pink Floyd. "High Hopes." A model example of what happens when the magic of Nightwish is dropped on an already great song ...
Glad you saw this!!!! As Tuomas wrote in Dead Boy's Poem, "...a perfect concert, my best friend." It was indeed one of their most perfect concerts, especially up until that time. It's also terribly bittersweet, as it was *immediately* after this show that Tarja was fired from the band.
I remember when I heard this first time 🤯😂 It's amazing! God I love Marko's voice ❤️ And even though I'm not a big fan of Tarja's voice, here it fits perfectly! 👍 By the way, you could do Planet Hell with sll singers. They all have done amazing versions and there are great videos out there. Atleast Floor's and Anette's versions, probaply Tarja's too becouse it's from her era. Same with Nemo. Anette did nice acustic version of that.

You can see him lying on the drums and holding his ears in many videos. It definitely has to do with what ever health problems he had, it's not a performance act.
Well, not saying this untrue, but he does this almost every concert. I would assume a more simple explanation like he is counting clicks in his in-ear monitor. (NW can play so tight and in perfect sync with the backing tape containing the choir and orchestra, because they all have a click in their in-ear monitor.) But like you, I'm just guessing. Maybe my assumptions are totally wrong...

I think I must have gone back to the ending 15 times in a row the first time I witnessed this. I became an instant Tarja groupie and Nightwish fan.
