I love seeing people come for Tarja and then get blown away by Marko.
Same here!
Exactly this! I find I can't really listen to Tarja's accent anymore in live songs :(
Also happens with Floor and Marco in the live Poet and the Pendulum
And then they hear Floor and gets a Floorgasm.
Tarja era Nightwish stole my ears about 23 years ago! Then came Matko!
Andrew Lyord Weber said in a interview. This is his favorite off stage version of his song. That's pretty much says it all. 🖤
Would you by any chance have the interview? I can't find it.

Don't know about the Lloyd Webber interview, but this guy who knew him says the same:
th-cam.com/video/pL4Y_Y8fP_w/w-d-xo.html
For what it's worth, anyways.
but this version was on-stage, both literally and also in terms of the singers playing the characters.
@@sabin97 this song is on their album too. Possibly he was referring to the cover in general, not necessarily this exact performance.
I have an assumption that Marco had no idea that decades later there would be professional people carefully analyzing his singing note by note.
In fact I recall an interview where he said that he disliked this song, so just passing that test is an amazing sign of his professionality.
@@pedroteran5885 It is far from my most desired NW song also. But I appreciate it more now after hearing a professional's opinion.
And by doing so, these professional people will come to the conclusion that this guy can sing.
If you need another probe, check out this one, a solo of him ... The Islander (Live @ Tampere) th-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/w-d-xo.html
And he's just play bass guitar.. :D
Or carefully pointing out he was so good, Tarja was actually therefore worse than Floor [FROM ME, A BIG FAT NOPE, BUT I DIGRESS]
I love reactions to this video. Tarja starts, and they're like "Wow, that's gorgeous." Then Marco comes in, and it's "Whoa. Dude. Man. Bruh... What the fuck?"
hahaha couldn't have said it better!
Tuomas, the keyboard player, arranged this. He writes and arranges almost everything Nightwish does.
He's genius! 😱
He is
@@jessicasopranonotes For more awesome arrangement and songwriting of Tuomas, I would recommend you check out The Poet and The Pendulum from their live at Wembley in 2015. It's a long piece but a pretty amazing one. ( th-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/w-d-xo.html )
@@jessicasopranonotes They don't call him The Metal Mozart for nothing. His songwriting and composing is next to none. You should check their epic songs The poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth. It is also highly recommended that you do a little background research before listening to those two masterpieces.
@@katechatzi1405 Thanks Kate!
And the problem, after hearing the Nightwish version, every other version just sounds so sanitized - right? I'm not a metal person, generally more on the Country and easy Pop, but I'll admit this was a version that hits the 'basement of the soul' better than any other I've heard
I’m a metalhead, and I agree quite a bit. It’s probably the most gothic version I’ve heard
One of the more fascinating aspects about Nightwish I absolutely love is that even people who are not into metal can still be very much hooked on their music and become fans. Just look at the thousand TH-cam reactors who are generally into completely different music genres.
@@petyaivanova9629 that’s just that people don’t realise how amazing our genre is until they hear it
You are metal person. Not metal persons like classical verson. Maybe it's indicator. I am think I am metal person, but listening all.
I think Marco fully captured the manic feel of the character of the Phantom. All other singers concentrate on just the music, and the character feels seperate.
They are all Finnish 🇫🇮, for the question about accent.
Thank you! That explains a lot!
@@jessicasopranonotes Yeah Tarja used to have strong finnish accent and some problems with English when she was young which was especially noticeable in live perfomances. Still has to some extent but it's much better now. That's one of advantages of Foor, her English is really good(tho I'm not a fan of her New Yorkish hu- as yu- pronuncuation)

Yup, that's why she shouts Kiitos at the end, that's "Thank You" in Finnish.
In finland the accent is called "rallienglanti" = rallyenglish 😄
The word I use to describe Marko's "Phantom" is *menacing*. He brings that out soooo perfectly!
Good word!!
This is probably my 2nd favorite rendition of the song just behind Brightman and Crawford. But as I thought about it over time Marko's "menacing" version would have been out of place in the play. At that point in the play, He's still her seducing angel of music. After his mask is ripped off by Christine, this version would be perfect. And of course the song Point of No Return.
Tarja and Marko still have the best chemistry I've seen in a duet. Outside of maybe the Righteous Brothers.
@@coachmikesfilmroom3111 same. Both are my favorite. For me Marco give a sinister vibe
Every single vocal coach gangsta until Marko joins the chat
It's the first time I've seen a "Markorgasm."
Just what I almost said, but you did it first😄

I'm a straight guy, and it has about the same effect on me, . Marko is a-freaking-mazing.
Everybody loves Marko 😊

"His voice sounds like it can go up high" ... Seatbelts plz, we're going in people
She's from Finland and she has a really heavy accent even when she sings classical music in English you can her it thats what sets her apart and marcos voices is amazing as well
Yes, I do believe that's the reason behind the pronunciation things pointed out here. I actually think the accent is gorgeous.
I agree. You have to take her accent into consideration.
Tarja's accent is really pleasant to me. 🙂
MARKO is what makes this Duet stand out. The soprano is, by far, Not one of the best.
@@НатальяПарванчук All European Women's voices sound nice to me !!!! 😋 😄
Funny observation - I think every female singer/vocal coaches first comment is about Tarja’s outfit. The other common point is the “holy cr*p!” moment when Marko starts singing.
The thing is, all these singers/coaches who react, almost always are very familiar with the musical and this specific song. And they have a preconceived notion of what to expect, i.e. focus on the soprano's vocals because this is basically Christine's song, the soprano's time to shine if you will, and the male vocal takes a back seat.
So when Marko comes on with his unique approach, singing it as no other Phantom before (because the rest are actors/singers doing it in musical theater style) and going higher than all of them, how could it not surprise them.
This is my all time favourite rendition of Phantom of the Opera and is in my top 5 Nightwish songs. I absolutely loved your reaction, and the fact that at times you could barely sit still. Thank you for this reaction!
It was so good! Thank you for commenting!
Imagine how many new Broadway attendees there would be if the whole play was revamped in this style?
Tarja cuts that last note for drama like she's dropped dead. Never heard that done so well before.
Her timing on stage is often on point, she knows exactly what to do, how to move and loves some hand gestures.
Now that you point that out, I see/ hear it.
I'm a huge Tarja fan but I've never seen her replicate this later. It's amazing that this was recorded.
🖤 Great reaction again! 🖤
One thing, Tarja always said she is not an opera singer, but classically trained. And that she needed to find her own way not to sound too "potato". She rarely used her "most operatic" voice on Nightwish songs. It is crazy that they all lived in that small town and happened to start this band together. Guys didn't even know how Tarja would sound when they asked her to join Nightwish. They had heard her singing as a kid, but her voice was totally different because of her classical training. And because of that they even changed their whole style from acoustic mood music to metal. So many lucky coincidents.
Such a beautiful story and how it all worked out!
@@jessicasopranonotes Yes it was, at least for us "outsiders". And it ended on this concert, when they fired Tarja. I had been their fan since 1998, and it was quite a shock. They had their dissensions for years (about touring life and Tarja's husband-manager interfering to everything), and I'm sure Tuomas was pissed because Tarja had already told that she would leave after next album, so he wanted to punish Tarja for that. Then there is also this theory, that Tuomas was in love with Tarja, and he was jealous to Tarja's husband. Maybe he was, I can't blame him for that. At least so many of their songs can be thought that way (impossible love, forbidden love, one sided love).
@@NightwishArena Oh wow! There's so much about the band I don't know lol. Thanks for this insight!
@@jessicasopranonotes I'm sure you will get a lot more information if you stay in Nightwish train. Hope to see more reactions from you soon.
@@jessicasopranonotes Tuomas wrote a song about how he felt after firing tarja, its called "The poet and the pendulum". You should definitely check out the live version from wembley 2016, as you know some of the backstory behind it now.
Prior to this, Marko had a botched vocal surgery. He completely lost his voice and had to relearn how to sing. I think this gave him his absolutely unique voice. You can hear his old sound in his 1980s video for Wings of Darkness by Tarot.
For more Marko I suggest you listen to The Islander (live @ Tampere). Not only is he the lead vocal, he wrote the song too.
Oh no way! So awesome he was able to get back into the game!
Marco Just quit Nightwish, for health reasons (depression), and disgust with the music industry two weeks ago, at the end of this show in 2005 End of a era, the only person that does not know that Tarja is fired at the end of this show, is Tarja! which leads into a lot of dark nightwish music as it was pretty tramatic for the band and the fan base, Poet and the pendulum, bye bye beautiful and master, passion, greed, listen to other music before you listen to these three songs
@@jessicasopranonotes Marko had a polyp removed , that damaged his vocal nerve and another doctor said later that whole operation was useless , when his vocal problem could have been fixed with vocal coaching . Marko only vocal training had been music high school lessons , when he started in 1980s .
Tarja has opera basic from Sibelius academy and then finished her opera training in Germany , Karlsruhe's University of Music .

@@witchfromthenorth5294 Agreed. I do love Tarja, and she was a large part of why I fell in love with Nightwish many moons ago, but I now prefer Floor. I think it is because Tarja almost always sing in an operatic voice, while Floor is more versatile and does many singing styles perfectly (even growling). It is more entertaining in the long run. :)
This is a real bittersweet performance for most of us Nightwish fans that've been with them since the 90's.
This is a truly iconic performance and it was just after this show that the band gave Tarja the now infamous "Letter" stating their wish to part ways with her as singer.
We can't imagine how tough this was for the band members, and then right afterwards....for her.
A true "Elinore" of a song, that magical unicorn that can only ever happen once.
Tarja must have been really toxic for the band to drop her. I mean, she's one of a kind and they still thought it was better to go without her, think about it.
@@RafitoOoO It was actually Tuomas who was the toxic one. One by one everyone has left him. Now even marko.
@@RafitoOoO It was not her, but her husband, that Argentian music mogul gicalo, which was the toxic part....
Sad times then when she had to go, even more with Anette as substitute. Today I think, that the cast has been perfect with Marco. And he left because of the industry, not Tuomas.

Marco needs his time now, very well deserved! The man can sing! He has brought much joy to us at his expense, we owe him his due time to do for himself as he needs! Dear lady, thank you for this awesome reaction!
It's a shame that more people doesn't know Marco exist, after decades of great career, so glad you recognized his talent 🖤
Of all the reaction videos I've seen of this song, THIS IS THE BEST! So entertaining and educational
Thank you for continuing the Nightwish wild ride! 🖤 You're official one of us now.
As for Marko, he won this last season's Masked Singer in Finland, which had its finale on December 19th, only a month and a half ago, or so. So, he's definitely got massive vocal chops.
Unfortunately yeah, he has quit Nightwish, at least for this next year, due to depression and personal issues. From everything I've heard, his exit is completely supported and understood by the rest of the band, so there's zero harsh feelings. I guess we can all hope he'll be interested in re-joining one he takes care of what he needs to.
He's retired now, and well deserved for years of entertainment
He isn’t coming back to nightwish, if you read his statement he was saying he might come back to music in general, not to the band. He has his own solo project to work on.
Was one of the most heartbreaking bits of news I got this year & it has 100% been a shitshow of a year. I totally understand needing to care for yourself & your mental health tho, & I hope he's doing that. And then please, please, please come baaaaack. The world needs more Marko. She had the flu, Finnish is her 1st language of many and this is the last show of a full tour about 4th-5th song in to the show. To be fair to her pure opera abilities there are many examples here on TH-cam.
I don't know which I actually enjoy more. The singing or your reaction to it. You're so energetic and lively! Awesome commentary both technically and especially the emotion you're projecting is just amazing!
Beautiful breakdown, so glad you got to appreciate Marco's voice early on in your Nightwish journey. 🖤
I’ve been part of the Nightwish Army for over 20 years now, and have heard the Phantom of the Opera 100’s of times, a performance that has always blown my mind with the whole feeling behind it all, the power, they way Tarja & Marco blend, loving it more & more. Now after listening to it straightway after watching your reaction & analysis, I have a whole new deeper appreciation of it all, especially with a better understanding of the technical side & the explanation of skill required to produce such vocals. You have left me wanting more.
The education you give, the understanding of the how, the appreciation, the joy you express is making my Nightwish journey an even better experience for me! The Nightwish Addiction is real, I was hooked before, & now you’re reeling me in! I’m hungry for more!
I Can’t wait…

Love your video and yes, we need to get rid of the Covid once and for all! Me to i need to see a show! to be with the croud!
Take care my dear!
Female opera singer reactors seem to love Marko's vocals. You are not the first one. He is a great vocalist, even though he lost his falsetto because of a botched polyp removal operation. That was before he joined Nightwish in 2001. In 1990's, can't remember the exact year.
He just told he's going to leave Nightwish and public life for at least for one year. He's going to be missed. Nightwish is going to hire a session bassist. But Marko was both bassist and vocalist. Nightwish needs male vocals!
There has been talk about Jarkko Ahola, he can play bass and sing from heavy screams to opera. The boss lady of the Finnish National Opera was totally surprised and blown away, when Jarkko sang Nessun Dorma, (she gave him a few tips), in a TV-format, where known Finnish vocalists had to sing with many different styles. I like Jarkko, but there is only one Marko.
Tarja's accent is quite strong. Can't help but noticing. Floor has an accent too, but not as much as Tarja. And Floor modifies vowels for vocal purposes, as smart singers do, I've been told.
Along with "Ghost Love Score", "The Poet and the Pendulum" Wembley Arena 2015, 14 minutes, (can make you cry) and "The Greatest Show on Earth" Tampere Finland 2015, 20 minutes are two masterpieces by Tuomas Holopainen, the founder in 1996, leader, songwriter - composition, lyrics, arrangement - of Nightwish. He writes vast majority of Nightwish songs. I think he deserves to be called 'Metal Mozart'. These songs, the big three of Nightwish, are a must! You still have two to go.
If you decide to react to more Nightwish than just those two, as ai hipe, I suggest you leave reacting to them untill later. And when the time comes remember to check the stories behind the songs before reacting to them. I also highly recommend using videos with lyrics.
Marko has written some Nightwish songs together with Tuomas, for example "The Islander" Tampere 2015 is Marko's composition, lyrics by Tuomas. Weak Fantasy, Tampere 2015, co-written by Marko and Tuomas, Marko is the main composer, lyrics by both, propably mainly by Tuomas, my guess. "The Greatest Show on Earth" Marko has composed a part/parts of it. There are some other Nightwish songs with Marko's in put. Of course Marko has also done a lot outside Nightwish.
Great reaction, thank you! Looking forward to another one.
Greetings again from Helsinki Finland!
Marko and Tarja are both founding members.
Really glad to see some actual critiques from you, some reactions, most, seem afraid to do it. Thanks for that, it's hard to learn without knowing the mistakes as well as what was right
Awwww... Jess... Lovely reaction! Yes, I love Tarja and Floor, but Marco is my favorite Nightwish singer! There are quite a few songs he sings in that I'm sure will be requested. A couple of my favorites are Song of Myself and Romanticide, from the Wacken 2013 show, but there are others where he does all the singing... High Hopes (from the same show as the Phantom) and The Islander, from Tampere.
The most amazing thing about this video is that Tarja was sick that day, in the morning she can't barely talk, and still she could give everything at night to sound amazing.
Because the Queen is just this awsome!
And at the end they kicked her out of the band. How unfair is that?
@@madalinagrigore9931 yup agreed total bastards, let’s make a dvd with her than sack her at the end of the night 😡
@@madalinagrigore9931 blame the keyboardist. We all do. Even Marco had enough.
@@Ozzy_2014 Marco said and i quote “ (...) blaming for instance Tuomas, is in insult to both him and my free thinking” so, nope, if anything blame depression and the music industry. People need to get a grip and get over that she was kicked out of the band... 15 years ago almos 16 so, if she is happy and doing her thing why fans can’t simply get over it? She even has said that the competition has to stop ( when she sang Over the Hills with Floor) so this whole blaming and shaming comes from fans, the band and Tarja seem to have gotten over it YEARS ago.🙄
I love how much joy you bring to your reactions! Legit knowledge and grounded insight of a professional singer - I learn a ton in your videos. But the joy and enthusiasm are what brings me back every time. Best wishes and I hope we can all go to a live Nightwish show soon!
I am constantly searching TH-cam for professionals reacting to NIghtwish and I am once again reassured by your expertise.

I love how EVERYONE has the same "holy shit!" reaction to Marco's voice after already being drawn in by Tarja's singing. :D
You just discover Marko as he takes a break from music... I'm so sorry :-(
I'm sure you'll get a ton of suggestions for The Islander, but if you want more Marko in other settings, check out his own band "Tarot". I'd also suggest checking him out with Delain on "Nothing of Left", "The Gathering", "Sing To Me", or "Your Body Is A Battleground" (side note: Charlotte, the lead singer of Delain has a background in classical and jazz singing, so that might be of interest too)
I'd add to that few Tarot songs (especially live versions, that's where Marko shines):
- Follow Me Into Madness
- Guardian Angel
- I Rule

@@michacieslak2346 I'd have to add Pyre Of Gods too, since that was my gateway to Tarot back in '07.
Can I throw in his album with "The Northern Kings' as well, where he performs with other metal singers doing metal covers of older pop songs?
What about Franz Schubert's Ave Maria he did with Floor at Raskasta Joulua? Just to mention another setting.
"take on me " with the norther kings
I am in LOVE with your enthusiasm. Also, really appreciate how you give examples and clearly show what you are referring to. Beautiful combination of entertaining and educational!
I loved seeing the young people spellbound in the crowd.
In a virtual world, it gave them something they could feel and remember for ever.
🖤
Agree. Look again at the crowd. No cellphones.
this high D tarja is singing at the end is spectacularly good.
to bring up so much mass and brilliance up to a high d is a rare skill, especially having a dark voice like she has.
the onset of the note is perfect, the resonance, the colour of the tone, its remarkably well sung.
or is it D# even?
@@schneevongestern9898 Yes. D#6-D6.
The wide vibrato is a metal thing for sure. Stands up against the bigger noise. She's modified her operatic training to compensate for the different musical accompaniment
If you want to hear more of Marko, try Nightwish-The Islander (live at Tampere) and Nightwish-High Hopes. Both showcases Marko's talents. The funny thing is at the Tampere show, Floor is his backup singer :)
This song is how I got my dad into Nightwish 😄
I feel like I'm 15 years old every time I listen to this version of the song. Nightwish is great. Tarja is great. Marko is the best ❤
She's Finnish. So she uses more back vowels.
Interestingly not in that word "sang", where she should.
True. She doesn’t sing in an American accent..it’s a Finnish Anglo British accent. The vowels resonate better in the performance.
We literally have a letter for the sound she should be doing, ä
@@zehaha it’s just the accent, bad pronounciating. Her english was never that good.
@@mmnde12 It got better post NW, but i think she used it intentionally here.
I love it how much you respect Finnish singing education. They both are well educated singers.
This is my absolute FAVORITE reaction video EVER! Because this is how I feel every single time I watch this masterpiece. This is my absolute favorite version of this song ever, on or off Broadway… and I’ve spent over 30 years in love with the Phantom of the Opera. Ramin Karimloo is my favorite phantom, but this version has my heart. Always. ❤
So glad you started with Tarja AND Marko. Very nice breakdown.
Tarja was/is known as the Voice of Finland, long before the tv program. In her 40s now, she has developed her lower voice.
Recommend "Supremacy"..."Walking in the air" with Harus...and Paolo Tosti version of "Ave Maria"
The amount of talent on display, not only here, but in every Nightwish performance, is astonishing!
I really liked this reaction a lot, especially your singing interludes! Tarja Turunen is Finnish (you were pretty close with the pronounciation) and trained for a year at the classical Sibeliusacademie in Helsinki. She was bullied by her classmates for being in a metal band, so she transferred to the university of Karlsruhe in Germany, where she studied "Lied". For those of you not in the know, this is classical style singing, but with a piano or maybe chamber orchestra setting, not full opera. Lied is basically German. So we have Finnish Tarja studying in Germany, if I remember correctly with a Japanese mentor. In my opinion her English accent while singing deteriorated during this time. Is this possibly the basis of your mild critique of her vowels?
That's what I love about great reaction videos, the expertise and passion for music you bring into these videos is really impressive.
I know I’m late to the party but YES!!! They’re incredible!!! I love how literally everyone who reacts to this video is like “came for Tarja-MARKO?!?!” 😂 He's just freaking fantastic
About the accent-Tarja is Finnish! So that’s what’s messing with her vowels a bit. I believe she was also sick during this concert. And still she has this *immensely* powerful voice! A true goddess. I’d love to see you react to more of her! To hear some even higher notes there’s her cover of Supremacy by Muse, and she’s done actual opera performances as well! The concert is called Beauty & the Beat.
Loved your reaction! Had never heard Nightwish before! Will look forward to hearing more! 😊🖤
Thank you, Glenn!
Love your reaction. If you want to hear more of Markos capabilities, from the same concert Nightwish cover of Pink Floyd's: High Hopes - older Marko: The Islander Live @Tempere, or Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red live @Wembley.
Tarja, Marko (bass & vocals) Emppu (Guitar) Jukka (Drums) & last, but definitely not least, Tuomas (Keyboards, Composer & Lyricist of 99% of NW material) all come from Finland.
If you want to hear Floor's version of the Phantom of the Opera - then Floor Jansen & Henk Poort in Beste Zangers 2019 (a dutch TV show where singers sing songs that have a special meaning another participating to the show)
I'm always surprised by her dark, warm "Kiitos" at the end of the song. Somehow you'd expect a higher speaking voice but hers is quite warm and dark.
THE BEST: TARJA TURUNEN!
CHILLS ME, SO MUCH EMOTION IN THE VOICE OF THIS GREAT TALENTED WOMAN! 🔝🔝🔝❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏
I must have watched a ton of reactions this past year and I can honestly say that yours, are top notch. Absolutelly fantastic. And you also seem like a geniounly great person, not just someone that really knows your stuff. Absolutelly brilliant reaction and analysis.
Your animated expressions and technical nuggets are always good to watch and hear.
And you often go back to include a snippet of what techniques you just commented about, which makes it memorable and your points very well made (I still remember Tori Kelly and maintaining the "energy level" throughout the length of a sung phrase all the way to the end and try to consider that in my singing or guiding others).
The whole internet is looking forward to seeing them live. I hope it doesnt take long. Love the reaction by the way.
Tuomas holopainen on the keyboard is the boss.. He Writes songs, compose and arrange them
You know that phantom of the earth is not his right?
@@giannisvar4414 phantom of the earth?!!! If u mean phantom of the opera... Yeah i know that. In general he is a brain of nightwish
@@siavashjavidnia6789 yeah phantom of the opera it was a typo ..yes in general he is the brain ..a true genious
That was a lot of fun to watch, great analysis and tremendous watching your surprise and delight. I think, perhaps, what you were expecting was it to be all about Tarja, when for most people, that performance turns out to be all about Marko 😁
I love that he makes the phantom sound so believably and chillingly crazy, he sounds so menacing in that climactic passage.
Whooo, hooo. Nightwish Iowa. 2 hours, this is a record for me to find it. :)
Yes, Marco, Marco, Marco!
Adorable reaction. I don’t feel alone anymore with that way to react 😂😂❤️❤️
That was so nice ,and Marco was the fireworks in that performance, love the way you sing those notes to show the way you would prefer her to do it
One of the best Metal performances of all time in my opinion!
Absolutely loved your reaction and breakdown of this song. I get chills and goosebumps every single time! You really should hear marco sing the islander live at Tampere his voice is beautiful. And yes I'm heartbroken that he just left the band and even more sad for you for just learning about them when he's decided to move on. Phenomenal band!
Really, really love what you've done here! I'm not just getting a commentary, I'm getting an education. Thank you so much!
"yours is an empy hope" live in Wembley, with Floor...
Love Nightwish. I wish I had a music teacher like you, when I was in school. Not only are you technical in your evaluation, but you show a love of music that is infectious. 🖤
Thanks for very analytic reaction. I think you should react " Poet an the Pendulum", the ultimate masterpiece. It tells about how difficult times Tuomas went through when the band sacked Tarja, who was his childhood friend. Even one cabinet minister commented on this and the fans round the world were very angry at Tuomas, who is kind of a leader in the band. Tuomas had also suicidal thoughts and he was very depressed. Then he composed this work of art which consists of five parts. In their Wembley concert the band was as its best. Please do this!
Oh wow, that does sound like a masterpiece! I'll definitely add that to my Nightwish Performance Analysis list! Thanks ☺️
Use the subtitled version
This is the most honest review ever, you are an amazing artist and you have an amazing ear for music, love your video 💗💗💗💗
Since you like Marko, you HAVE to react to The Islander live at Tampere. You will absolutely love it. He kills it
I love that u analysed details that nobody had noticed. More Floor plz!
Nightwish - yours is an empty hope ( live in Mexico City)
It's Eb6 btw.
If you want to hear Marco take the lead completely. I would recommend High Hopes. It's a cover of a Pink Floyd track from the same concert as this performance
Why am I just discovering this reactor? Definitely on my top list reactors right now. Great job!
I took too long to type this to still be live so I am putting it here. Marco with his attitude and fry and all that makes the Phantom a darker character again as he originally was. The 'nicer' Phantom did not start until the old Hammer Films movie when Christine finally agrees to be tutored.
I love that you liked this. I'm old school so this setup of Nightwish is what I prefer. Loved that you gave lots of love to Markko aswell as to Tarja. Hugs from Sweden.
Prime time Marko.
A very underrated singer, if you want my honest opinion
🖤🖤🖤🖤 - 4th time watching 😁🤘 - Just love this reaction!!🔥
Something to know about Tarja is that she uses her native Finnish phonology (phonation) as a stylistic choice even when singing in English. You noticed it almost immediately, but most people seem to really notice it when she says "Opera" in this song. When she sings Nemo in the same concert the word "three" utilizes that same stylistic choice. Some people really dislike her vowel modifications and how she combines different styles. But there are those of us who really enjoy the result of mixing wide vowels, lowered larynx, high soft palate, and heavy vibrato style she tends to go with in a lot of the songs she sings (barring actual operas where she sticks to business). Not really the best song for an introduction to Tarja. From the same concert you could go with Nemo, Wishmaster, Planet Hell, or Wish I Had An Angel. She has also done actual opera on the Beauty and the Beat concert. However, I think the best expression of her style and voice is her cover of Muse's Supremacy. If you watch that one make sure to pick the Live in Milan version. The woodstock one has bad audio.
Also, if you want to hear more of Marko's harmony blending there are quite a few in that same concert (End of an Era). Planet Hell and Wish I Had An Angel, for example. However, Song of Myself at Wacken has Marko and Floor singing harmonies that'll blow your mind.
Really interesting and educational...and loooove the enthusiasm!!
yaaaaaaaaaas give Marco every due he has coming! this performance will always stick out as one of the best!
I watch this reaction every now and again because I love the sincerity you display. Tarja and Marko deserve nothing less. ❤️
Superb analysis!
Well, I say that another time... you are the best at analyzing the songs and the singers, period.
To this base, the best of all, you add your sympathy and naturalness... we can't ask for anything more. You give us so much that, personally, I feel a little overwhelmed. I make this comment just in case it serves as an encouragement for you to continue doing such fantastic work.
Jess, a big hug from Spain
If you're curious how Floor Jansen (the current singer of Nightwish) performs Phantom of the Opera, she did so on a Dutch show called "Beste Zangers" with opera singer Henk Poort. They kind of promised to do it live with Nightwish when they go touring again in the Netherlands!
Back to my usual hobby of watching opera singers react to Nightwish who are not prepared for Marko. :D
I didn't catch a lot of Marko's vocals the first time, either, it took MANY listens and some vocal coaches pointing some of it out, but I found a massive new respect for him as a vocalist.
Lovin your reactions 🙏🏻❤️ Thank you. Greets from Finland 🇫🇮
Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala, once Nightwish, and When Your Lips Are Still Red .....
Absolutely love your commentary. I love Nightwish and I have no vocal training but I just adore how you break this down even normies can comprehend the terchniques! Fantastic
So many have to pause because "Who is this?!" when Marko starts :'D
Fantastic reaction. Amen to the Nightwish concert sentiment. I saw them in 2012 with their 2nd singer. I have tickets to see them in Los Angeles in October, then my whole family is going to Europe for the first time to see them in Amsterdam in November. Can't wait.
