The rough out is not more durable but it’s easier to hide abrasions against. The rough out is just the leather turned inside out.
@@averageguy7.62-39 yes I did but I have an average shaped foot regardless, so D width and 9-9.5 in sneakers, I find for boots it’s better for me to stick to 8.5 and I haven’t gotten a bad fitting foot by sticking to that size and width.
I have a pair of their Prospector 67 boots and I've been looking at their website ever since. I will say they have BY FAR the best customer service I've ever dealt with. They went above and beyond to make sure that my boots fit correctly.
I was able to wear my Rangers immediately for 10 hour a day. I have a low profile foot so my uppers are size C and bottom D. Worn them for a year now and refuse to wear anything else. Love them.
My Builder Pro's took me about 6 months to fully break in but I was able to wear them a full day at work after a month. I have 3 pairs of Nick's with my oldest pair being 4 years old. Give it time and you will get to the point of even forgetting you are wearing them.
I have been wearing mine every Sunday to church and a couple times during the week just to the grocery store and such. I am finally getting to the point where I was able to wear them all day at the office. But I am still not ready to take them with me into the field operating equipment. And to be honest they are so pretty I don't want to get them covered in diesel hahaha

I got the BP in 1964 brown, there was barely any breakin with that leather. Luckily mine came early because Covid held up other leathers at the time I ordered, maybe that’s why yours took longer. Good video!!!
You got one of the tougher leather to brake in. Try the 1964 leather it’s just as thick but so way easier to brake in and I had no real problems wearing right out the box. Those bad boys will form to your boot so well and seem less large after awhile.
Sizing for custom boots is really easy. Just get the fit sheet printed out, bring a tape measure with you. Go to a Cobbler or Dry Cleaners slide them $50. And they will do all the measurements the right way. The mistake everyone makes is just buying a half size lower and thinking it will work. Just use the size sheet with your measurements and even if you buy off the rack from a custom PNW Boot company still ask them about the sizing based off your measurements before you put in the order....
Cool video. Just a quick note, the false tongue “kiltie” lacing goes the other way. The center part of the lace goes under the kiltie not on top of it. You will have less of a chance the corners under the eyelets digging into the top of your foot. Easy way to remember it is a stick or object won’t get caught into the lace if it’s on the bottom of the kiltie. Also don’t over condition them. It’s an easy mistake. But you guys have yourselves a sweet pair of boots for life and Nicks is an amazing company and awesome customer service.
@@averageguy7.62-39 if you want tips on cleaning / conditioning them let me know. A lot of times they will darken when oiled, and yours are a sweet brown color which some want to keep the lighter patina.

@@blakenorman4822 that’s right. The leather is made with heavy oils and waxes and doesn’t need much conditioning. With normal use probably only 2 times a year do you need to saddle soap and then condition them. I have a horse hair brush and a nylon brush I use. (I use the horse hair for smooth leather and nylon for the rough out.). For dusty boots an air compressor and bow them off is easy. I do one of those two methods any time they are dirty. For my black Builder Pros I use the Nicks oil before summer and the Nicks grease before winter. However both of those will darken the brown leather a lot. For my ND1s (brown CXL and 1967 leather) I use the Smyth’s balm. I notice you keep the color with that one and the patina. For really keeping the patina and color light there are boot creams (redwing and Saphir make good ones) and they really don’t darken at all. They are a light conditioner and not a deep conditioner. I ended up making my own Balm, oil and grease. Just a hobby. Ordering the conditioners from Deep Conditioning to light conditioning parallels Darkening to less darkening. I would order them like grease - oil - balm - cream in that order. Again you don’t have to use a lot of it when doing it, and maybe 2 -3 times a year. Oh, there is also some spray conditioners.

I’m currently in the process of dreading the break in process and they’re just sitting in my room looking pretty while my first pair is getting worn every day. I should probably get on that as my first pair of Nicks are about 18 months old and have a whole lot of miles on them. Probably have to ship them for soles in the summer.
Bro I'm at like 2 months or something of wearing them and they are still pretty stiff. But I only wear them to church and grocery store and such. But I think I could probably start wearing them all day about now. It is a harsh break in
@@averageguy7.62-39it’s because you got the extra thick midsoles! They suggest to not get that unless you’re a lineman climbing poles all day. The regular thickness is plenty for anybody doing normal stuff.
Definitely recommend you getting some thick wool Merrill blend over the calf, proper socks for those boots your feet Will love you for it. Don’t recommend the white cotton crew socks. I have many pairs and you definitely have to buy the proper socks for them. The wool Merrill blend socks wick really well
I ended up buying two pairs of wool socks at a store called barebones workwear, it was $25 for two pairs, holy smokes that seems like a lot but they really do make a difference. And honestly they have lasted a lot longer than any of the cotton socks I have ever had.
They say the go a half size down from your normal size I use the next fit sheet basically they sent me a half size down and I am a B with which I already knew that I have the same boots you have the builder pros had them for two years they’re great boots are ordered another pair of nicks the Ranger a little lighter they are great too and I have two on order now the mock toe and the Robert
I ordered a 10. I ended up wearing nine and a half. I would definitely say go out of your way and go to a expensive shoe store and get your foot fit properly. Because if we hadn't gotten lucky we would have been crap position.

You should do more research on their channel they tell on all the options and shoes and leather. It took 2 months to of research and their worth every penny. I work 9 hours every day and I have them about 1 year and 2 months.
Nick's fit "true to size". Comparable to other boots. I wear an 8.5D in Nicks. Same size in Lucchese, Tony Lama Black Label, older Dan Post, Thursdays, etc. I wear a 9D in Merrills and New Balance.
Hey I’m curious if you ordered the same size in a Nicks boot that you wore in a red wing iron ranger. I’m looking to get a pair of Nicks, I know the iron ranger uses an 8 last so I’m just trying to figure out how that fits compares to a Nicks boot. According to the site they say to order a half to a whole size down and that’s also what I did for my iron rangers. In a sneaker I wear a 9.5 and I’m the iron ranger I wear a 8.5 both in D width. @@940joey2update. i have no fuckin clue man. they probably would’ve worked the same size, i ended up going up a half size from my rangers. went with the wrong with because i must’ve been holding the tape measure at an angle or something but i have an E width when i should’ve embraced the brake in in a D width. id just do the fit sheet & if you’re doing a med-high arch go a hole size down from the brannock or fit sheet then match the width to the tailors tape

Just go to JK boots. Allot faster ship imo better and almost no break in. They last your boot while it’s wet to ease the break in

Don’t go to another store to get fitted. Do the nicks fit sheet. If you’re on concrete for most of your work day get the honey vibram.

I am a midget Mexican hahaha 🤣. So my calves are pretty low close to my heels.
They actually say “2 finger width”. Franks makes a real big deal about that. 1 thumb is too close.
