I have not had a problem breaking in my Nick's Overlanders, Urban Drifters, or Packer boots. I did not have any hotspots or blisters. I wish I had these boots during my 35 years in the Marine Corps!

I had the same boots in six inch. Bt cxl and they stitched the sole down didn't see any issues good to know. I was considering the v 100 when I resole my travelers . Good review looks good with no threads but you never see it lol. Anyway something about the 8 inch just feels better. I've had both.

Thanks for the thorough review. I have a heck of a time finding boots that fit. I'm going to send in the Nick's fit sheet and other measurements tomorrow and see what they say. I'll concur with the other posters that endorse a taller heel and internal arch support. With Nick's, I'm more likely to go for the Thurman55 or 11067 than the straight 55 last. I have a pair of Drew's in their modified 55 last that I adore. Like yours, break in was fine, they're built tough, and the leather is similar to Horween Chromexcel in Natural. I don't expect they have the trim and finish that Nick's do. Even if you don't need them for work, eventually getting a pair like this from Nick's or another quality brand I expect will be something you'd appreciate.

I love my boots and I own several pairs from Thorogood, Redwing, Danner, Bellville and a couple of Whites Perry boots. My high end "dress boot" is an Oak Street cap toe trench boot in natural chrome xl, bought at a nice discount. I haven't been able to open my wallet to the Nicks or high end Whites level. My boot addiction came from a 42 year career that required hard toe, oil and chemical resistant water and slip resistant and EH certified boots so a harsh environment. I think those decades of experience killing boots makes in nearly impossible for me to justify $500-800 boots.
Overlander is the best boot Nicks makes ( in my humble opinion)... I've got a pair of "souped up" overlanders ( ND1's) and my foot gets sucked into these boots when I put them on. They fit like a glove now!

I have a real hard time debating between the overlander and americana boot from Nicks as my next purchase. I want a dressier looking boot that looks nice to go with my JK 8" OT's in bison.
I just received my Ridgeline, which is similar to the Overlanders except with 6" shaft. I also ordered the British Tan CXL which is a very down to earth color. It is lighter than the regular brown, but it will darken with age. The Ridgeline is super comfortable except I have to get used to the folded tongue. Regardless of how I fold it, the seam still puts pressure on my shin bone and it gets uncomfortable after walking for a while. Perhaps I'll get used to it, but if not, I'll just cut it so that it won't be attached to the eyelets so that I can lay it down flat. My comes to under $600 and to me it is worth it. Everything about Nicks is rebuildalble and as long as the uppers are taken care of, the soles can be replaced and it will last a lifetime.

My first pair of high quality handmade boots was a pair of Overlanders, too. I bought them for the same reason you did: I was scared of the 55 last. "Ew. That looks weird. Not my style. No." 1 year later I now have a pair of 55 lasted boots and they have ruined boots for me. When I'm not at work I can get by on almost anything, but I won't work in anything that isn't made on the 55 last anymore. The benefit and comfort to my feet after 8, 10, or 12 hours is just too great to ignore. Try it if you can, you might be surprised at how fast they change your mind. I will say, the arch does require a bit more break in, but if you are on your feet all day and your arches already hurt, you will absolutely love that pain, strange as that sounds. 🙃
Interesting! I appreciate you sharing. Perhaps I can try a 55 in the future. Given my office job, though, I'm not ever on my feet for too long on boots and I'm lucky in that regard because most of the boots I've tried have been pretty comfortable for my use. Cheers, mate!

Yeah that's a tough choice. For what it's worth, I think the Americana is the dressier option!

@@rockymtnstyle An easy one to try is a 55 with a wedge, as opposed to a 55 with a big heel.

I have definitely broken in boots from Nicks/Whites in a month. Breakin as ending on with no hot spots or pain points. Nothing crazy about that.
