Cytomel was a complete waste of time for me. It basically made me feel worse for the entire year I tried it. My thyroid levels were all over the map, and not in a good way. My doctor agreed to me lowering my Synthroid and trying some Cytomel, but he told me going into it that he didn’t think it was going to make me feel any better. He was right. It made me feel much worse. These videos make problems seem much worse than they actually are, I think. In other words, the majority of people do just fine on Synthroid alone. 😏

It took me 32 years of asking regularly to be switched off of synthroid to desiccated thyroid to finally get there! As a retired physician, I did just what everyone else did...I assumed my doc knew what he was doing and I assumed my chronic pain, (now gone) would always be with me. I feel like a different person!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 18. I’m 23 now and have been on levothyroxine ever since the original diagnosis.
I put on weight so easily and in such a volatile manner, that every attempt to lose weight becomes harder than the last. I have days where I can go without feeling any severe fatigue, whilst on others I come crash out before it’s even sunset. On some days, I wake up feeling horribly down, and at times it can last for weeks.
My hands and feet are swollen and chubby (but I think that’s also just due to my weight in general), and my nails are brittle. My skin dries out and flakes regardless of me moisturising.
Ultimately, this is just how my body has been made and I can only learn to accept it.

Thanks Dr Childs, music to my ears.
We need to be our own advocates, I had read through my thyroid med info & have learnt so much from that. I had a tendon injury & was taking pain killers for weeks, but didnt realise that they were interfering with my thyroid meds. I had a bad week, more aches, depression etc and my routine bloods showed my TSH number changed, I then had to increase my meds.
Always pays to check whether other meds you are own can interfere with your thyroid meds ( including Iron supplements).

Thank you for your videos! I've was given too much RAI 27 yrs ago. My replacement endocrinologist is a nightmare. My other one retired. She changed my meds and I politely disagreed. She pulled the "I've been through medical school and you haven't." I've gained so much weight and she reduced my meds and told me I shouldn't be so lazy. That I should be more active. I asked her if she had read my file and knew if I was disabled. She didn't respond and ended our phone appointment.
Unfortunately, the only insurance I have is Medicare. I now have multiple autoimmune diagnoses and a CNS diagnosis. 2 pages of meds when printed out and now my teeth are crumbling.. (I have no dental, late life divorce changed everything) I truly detest my life... I feel like I'm drowning.

I feel for you, I was on 325 levothyroxine & still felt awful, had a stint in hospital with anaphylactic shock from something else so my heart rate was up, the doc reduced my dose taking 25 off then said he wanted it putting back to 325 once heart rate was stable then after I got home a different doc called me & said he wants me on 75 cos a healthy person should be on that according to text book. I have numerous auto immune diseases, a list as long as my arm of meds so I asked if he'd read my notes he said yes so I said well then you know I'm not healthy. He then said he'd prescribe vitamin d to help levothyroxine work, I asked have you looked at my meds he said yes you are only on Levo clearly he lied & had he looked her see loads of meds including vitamin d that I've been on for about 8 yrs! My bloods come back thyroid severely low & I've put on 5.5 stone since he reduced my meds, gone bald, can't get out of bed & generally feel I would be better dead at least i would be useful work food if I was dead rather than living every day in hell, I feel like death! Docs are crap!

Hi doctor, im a 20 year old female (103 pounds and 5’3, if that matters) and have been testing my thyroid since i was 16 because i struggle with anxiety, tiredness, hair loss, hives, skin issues and more. Now they have decided to put me on medication but i would prefer to take a more natural approach with supplements first to see if that works instead. I have also struggled with eczema and allergies my whole life but in recent years its getting alot worse about 2 weeks before my period. My skin gets very reactive, and i break out in ”spots” mostly on my chest and back but basically all over my body which i think is Folliculitis, i seem to get fungal infections on my skin easily but i think its weird how its tied in with my period cycle, i dont understand how and why. Ive heard that high levels of estrogen cause Candida fungi to overgrow so maybe that is linked to it. I also flare up with a red rash on my neck and face and feel overall anxious and my periods hurts alot and last for a long time about 8 days. My hormones just feel so out of balance, and im tired of being told to moisturise and use stroid creams on my skin, my skin issues feel more internal like something is wrong inside me rather than something a cream would fix.
I wonder if the bundle on the website for hypothyroidsm would help me and if it would benefit my skin and hormones related to my period as well? If not, do you know which supplements i should add/is safe to add ontop of the thyroid bundle to help eczema and skin conditions in general and to regulate the sex hormones?
Im a bit nervous and scared with pills and supplements so i dont want to experiment with it myself, i would like your help instead of trying to figure out what to take and what not to take from multiple sources online and create some sort of witch potion by myself, haha.
Here is my recent test result:

Hello I've just found this video! Very informative but was hoping for a little advice. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism 6 years ago and prescribed Carbimazole for around 18 months after which they decided not to continue me on that because, every time they took me off it, my thyroid went hyper again. Eventually, they gave me radioactive iodine. Unbelievably (and in the 1% of the population) my thyroid normalised for 5 years....until summer 2022 when it became under active. So I now have hypothyroidism. My main issue now is I'm losing my hair, I'd say almost for a year when the under active thyroid was picked up. I've been on Biotin supplements almost one year now plus taking multi-vitamins and use shampoo containing Biotin or Caffeine. My hair is NOT growing back :( I don't know what to do. I haven't seen a doctor about this yet. Please can you help? Thank you

Hi, i have been trying my best to deal 3 years actively with thyroid problems. Ive lost 20kg, ive quit stressfull jobs, prioritised sleep and moderately healthy food and thats good. But as you mentioned, im not stressed and have less weight so my dose changed from 112ug of Letrox to about 75ug. I've tried last few months combination T3 and T4 but it was really like having hyperactive thiroid all the time (i have hashimoto's). also because of my fatigue and other symptoms i have been put on 150ug of Letrox but it had the same effect. Nobody mentioned suplements until last doctor i'm visiting. I hope i can adjust and tune in to my body needs as best as i can with your advice. And yes, doctors don't understand how you feel nor they recognise depression or high anxiety with hormone dosage problems (to low or to high).

Question, Is it normal if my tsh result goes higher the rest of my blood work goes up. For instance cbc ,platelets. In which I also have itp also. I’ve had this all my life. Dr says oh your blood work is great lol I have heard all of what your talking about. So exhausted with all of it. Trying everything. I found stress was a major component. I have been to at least 8 different drs. In the past 5 years. Finally being aggressive with it. Also tried Integrative Dr. With not much help. Financially has been a burden. Trying to stay hopeful to feeling me best.

I always recommend starting with the thyroid bundles FIRST before proceeding to my weight loss program/bundles. Optimizing your thyroid will ensure more weight loss success down the road.

Is it true that H plroi can trigger Hashimoto's thyroiditis? If you how does it trigger autoimmunity condition?

There's evidence to suggest that it can, most likely through its impact on gut wall integrity, tight junctions, and molecular mimicry.

Dr. Childs I had my thyroid removed. I still have 3 parathyroids. My thyroid got big enough to make it a problem swallowing. I have no problem with my weight, I am 5'2" and 130-142 lbs and 77 years old. Since shortly after my operation I have a painful swelling from the bottom of my earlobe to my collar bone. I am on Levothoroxin 75mcg. Is this swelling is a result of removing my thyroid? I was told I need to be on this medication forever.

How do you know if you can reverse your thyroid condition? I have for the most part a healthy thyroid other than 2 small nodules that don’t seem to increase in size for the past 10 years. I was under the impression that Hashimoto’s was irreversible or not curable. But now I’m seeing it’s not the case.

    • @drwestinchilds
      @drwestinchilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hashimoto's can be put into remission... sometimes. It's not really possible to predict who will be able to and who won't, though. You should always act like you want to put it into remission because if you fail, you'll still a lot of good along the way.

@@drwestinchilds Had I known all this information 10 years ago, I would have done something about it then. However, my doctor told me I had to be on a pill for life. I am now taking steps to try and put my Hashimoto’s into remission. Starting with diet. My rosacea is clearing up everyday since I stopped eating gluten, dairy, eggs and grains. I realize now that all that redness was inflammation. My chronic back pain no longer exists. And I started three weeks ago. That’s fascinating! No doctor has ever said diet is important. Thanks, Doctor Childs.

Dr. Childs, would my thyroid antibodies increase if my NP tjyroid is not working optimally and would that be an indicator it's not working well enough for me and maybe I should go to synthetic T3 T4? My NP thyroid increases my T3 and brought down my TSH alot but my T4 is still so low and my reverse T3 is elevated. I don't know what to do. My doctor is also a DO and willing to help me but im not quite sure what I need to do and what is the best option or what to ask him to do to help me.
