NO success w an endo...after my thyroidectomy from thyroid cancer my Endo said people live with this cancer their whole life and are fine....so then WHY remove a vital gland from the body? Sorry but I regret having my thyroid removed...everyday ! Now work with a naturopath and am on NP thyroid

I was on syntroide for 10 years , miserable, gained 50 pounds ( under endo care ) Lately found a private dr who prescribed me NDT , it’s changed my life . Unfortunately he is going to retire, went to see next endo . She refused to treat me , because of my suppressed TSh and side effects ( osteoporosis and atrial fibrillation). Now I am panicking: fighting the disease and the system. I am nervous about suppressed TSH.

I went to an Endo for my Hasimotos. I told her I was brisk walking 17,000 steps 4 days a week, PTx3 for an hour at a session as well as swimming laps at the pool 2 times a week all while eating under 1,000 calories a day(healthy foods), I was putting on 2 kilos a month. She recommended I exercise more & gave me Optifast to curb my eating. I said to her YOU CANT BE SERIOUS? & walked out. This happened last year. True story from Australia.

This is EXACTLY what my primary care doctor recommended. I weigh 170 and weightlift enough to benchpress my weight as a woman plus running 30 miles a week and she thought the solution is for me to...you guessed it...take in LESS calories than the 1100 to 1200 I get. This is nothing short of gaslighting.

Sue Gibson As a hypothyroid/Hashimoto patient, you usually have an Adrenal/Cortisol issue as well- they pretty much go hand in hand...There are specific exercises that you should be doing so as to not grieve/aggravate your adrenals (overly stress them) so you don’t overproduce cortisol, otherwise it’s counterproductive and defeats the purpose of what your trying to do/accomplish. This is why people like us have been going to the gym for years working out strenuously, cardio/weight lifting crazy, eating low carbs. etc with no success/results..Once you start listening to your body, relaxing your body, walking, yoga, etc..the right exercises, actually eating the right carbs at the right time of day! YES, hypothyroid patients specifically actually DO need carbs, the right ones! I’m just learning all this! I’ve been Hypo/Hashimoto seems my teens and I’m 45.. do your research on this...and you will finally see results! Hope I’m making sense. I also love Dr. Berg here on YT..

Hi Sue, I also have Hashimotos and experienced the same thing, also Australian. I was advised by my physio who knows a lot about hashimotos and they said overexercising is one of the worst things you can do for Hashimotos, you stress out your system and gain more weight. Check out some of the articles by Dr Emily Kiberd, she is a chiro and has Hashimotos herself. She has devised exercise programs for women with hashimotos. We Hashi's people often experience a lot of tendon issues too.

I used to have " The best endocrinologist in St. Louis" so I was told. After going to him off and on for a couple of years I figured out he did nothing for me and said little to me about my health and how to improve it. He took a pen and waved it in front of my face and then told me to hold out my hands so he could see if I was shaking then said I will see you in a month. I'm on Levothyroxine. I take vitamins and changed my eating and that's what changed my life because of my own research! Thanks! Doctors are here to treat you not cure you!

I'm a fairly stoic woman and I cried watching this. I've been seeing my primary care physician for years, I've not felt well forever and she makes me feel like I'm crazy. I suggested I should see an Endo and she said, "Why? They will just do what I'm doing." I've felt hopeless with the rest of my life of yawning drudgery in front of me and little to look forward to. I'm going to seek treatment elsewhere and refuse to be made to feel silly for being proactive in my treatment, thank you Dr. Childs.

It's so unfortunate that people believe their doctors so much. You would be surprised at the general lack of knowledge that MANY doctors have. There are far more "bad" doctors than "good" doctors and I'm saying this as a physician who has met hundreds of doctors in my day.

Forget them! I went to an endo and almost walked out when he said that the adrenals and cortisol did not impact the thyroid. Worthless doctor. I then found a functional physician who is great! We have a plan to completely get me off of
blood pressure medication using natural supplements, he switched me to Tirosint and added T3 medication and also ordered a food sensitivity test. I just got the results of that test and was blown away by the information it provided me. My regular doctor had zero plan to get me off of BP medication which I believe is contributing to my hair loss.

I used to see a great Endo in CA, as well. Now, I'm relying on my PCP to help manage my thyroid. I know it's all about the tsh numbers. I don't even get a notification when she changes my dosage. I just show up to the pharmacy after routine blood work to pick up my meds, and suddenly I have a new dosage of levothyroxine. No heads up or discussion of my test results. I'm thoroughly confused.

This is so true. Both my primary care and endocrinologist fight me on everything. My endocrinologist finally did test my TPO. Several years later I had my personal care doctor test my TPO again and it went down from 563 to 43. I thought he would be pleased with this but instead shamed me for asking for the test. He said, “You are the only one who does this. You are the only one who asks for other tests” as if I am a child who is being bad. The entire experience is so weird. I am sure that I know more about the thyroid then they do by educating myself with videos like this and the internet in general. They have even said to me to stay away from the internet.

Good evening Dr Childs, I went into heart congestion failure and was taken to the er and had to stay in the hospital because they had to find out why I went into HCF, after blood work I had hyperthyroidism. I had no idea what that was, so the doctor told me that I had to see an endocrinologist and gave me information about it. I went to see the endocrinologist and they took blood work and started given me a medication called methimazole, I was so sick having an anxiety attack, lost all my hair, my slanted eye start bulging and felt like grit was in them. insomnia, lose a lot of weight. So I decided to do research and it sounded like I had symptoms of graves disease. I told my endocrinologist about it and he told me that I didn't have it and didn't even test me for it and was arguing with me about it. I relocated from NY to SC so I had to find a new endocrinologist and as soon as she walks in the room the first thing she said to me was that I had graves disease and they took new blood work and received all my records. As soon as she received my blood work back she called me and wanted me to take iodine 2 drops a day for 30 days. Next week I have an appt to the ophthalmologist for my bulging eye because she said that I have to go and get my eye test for eye disease from the graves disease. It seems like the doctor is taking care of better here than in NY. So we will see what happens. I saw your video because I am trying to educate myself to see if I am getting the best care or if there are other alternatives. I really enjoyed your video, keep up the good work and I did sign up for all your thyroid resources.

I went through all of this. I had to have two radioactive sessions to a burn the gland. The protrusion of eye will stop once the gland is ablated. If it is worse you can get it fixed with an operation. It wasn't required for me, there is a bulge not worrisome. I had methimizole for almost 3 years which is more than than the time it is advised for. My first radioactive dose did nothing.
There is a weight gain after the gland is gone, but you can workout to get back in shape.
At 45, I've got back into shape and dream to get my six pack in a few months. So don't let the disease bother you.. You'll be fine.

I told her I should probably get my thyroid removed. She agreed. Now I know that was bad advice since I didn’t have thyroid cancer or goiters. 100% CORRECT!! I’ve been seeing a Endo for 5 years, tried all sorts of thyroid meds...different doses. I’ve learned more from your videos and blogs then anything. I merely mentioned to my pcp, the time of day i take my thyroid meds matters and he quickly corrected me that it doesn’t. Well... i switched when i take the meds... based on your suggestion and additionally, have been taking your supplement for 2 months now and can honestly say I FOUND MY PATH TO WELLNESS. I’ll have another set of blood work done in a few weeks and I’m curious where i am on the charts. I’ve also incorporated intermintant fasting, apple cider vinegar and ginger into my daily water intake. I’ve looked into the functional medicine practitioners but just can’t afford it without insurance help. My two cents!!

Initially I was diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism by G.P.'s. Years later I was referred to endocrinology due to low cortisol, and diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. At the time of my hypothyroidism diagnosis, I had no symptoms and felt slightly overmedicated by levothyroxine. At the time of being diagnosed with low cortisol, I felt like cr*p. The endocrinologist prescribed hydrocortisone and told me I had a dangerous and life threatening condition, which I would have for life. They put the fear of God into me! One year later I had gained 30 pounds from the hydrocortisone and felt like sh*t!! I saw a private endo, who told me I should never have been prescribed hydrocortisone in the first place as I was only on the borderline of adrenal insufficiency. My main endo then tells me, 'You no longer have adrenal insufficiency.' So my endocrinology team actually harmed me instead of making me better. In fact, the private endo told me this whole situation was my own fault because I'm the one who requested a cortisol test 😂😲I'm still prescribed levothyroxine but I'm ready to try T3. I ordered the tablets myself online. I do not fully trust the endocrinologists.

What said here is so true. First endo I went to for Hashimotos was useless. Found a second one several years later. She was great. Prescribed T3 (in addition to the T4 I was already taking) with the directions “take to symptoms.” She was a thyroid expert and really knew her stuff. By this time I had read 20+ books and seen most of Dr. Child’s videos and she saw that I was a knowledgeable patient. It took 20 years to find her. A rare good luck 🍀 story!

My teenage daughter had an endocrinologist who was just a pill pusher. He kept telling her she was getting better based on labs but she still felt terrible. Nauseous, dizzy, overweight, headaches, stomach aches. For all her new ‘symptoms’ created but the meds (like acne, headaches, depression), he would prescribe more stuff. I did not let her take all that crap and we are seeing a naturopath doc now but I tell you, I should have my M.D. for all the studying I have done on the thyroid and PCOS. To other parents out there trying to help your kids, just know you are not alone. Fight on!

I have not had much success with my endocrinologist. I had graves & he talked me into RAI which I regret. I also blamed him for making me feel a million times worse being hypo instead of hyper. I refused to allow him to give me no for an answer & refused to live this way. I can’t function and don’t know how others suffer for years this way. I told him I want to try something & to stop switching my dose every 6-8 weeks. I am different & it takes my body longer to adjust. That’s exactly what my body needed and my labs are better according to him. I don’t care about labs like the docs do, & patients care about the quality of life. I still have symptoms but they are more mild & I still struggle with weight. I’m thankful he listened so I don’t have to go buy meds in Mexico to self medicate myself. 😊 Thanks for all the info you share and knowledge you bring to us!!

The endocrinologist had me do extensive blood work, including the thyroid antibodies that were present in my blood, as well as an abdominal ultrasound. It is too early for me to say whether it not my endocrinologist is a strict traditionalist or not, since I haven't even started any medication yet, but I can say that she covered all the bases with the first set if tests.

Why don’t all Drs. Out there are like you, it would make the world a better place, because Good health is Everything now a days we’re all suffering from lots of health conditions Regardless of age, young to old. And it’s very frustrating to not feel good enough to run your house and kids even; let alone having to generate income working outside the home. I myself have been tested for thyroid problems about 3-4 times and according to the Drs. There’s no problem. And here I’m feeling so tired, my hair fall a LOT and a bunch of other things ever since I had my youngest daughter (8 years ago ).But like you said the just follow their protocols and don’t do more for people, which is very unfortunate.
I was in fact considering to see an Endocrinologist but now..... I’m not so sure. By the way you got yourself a like and a subscriber too. 👍🏼

I just wanted to say that I had thyroid problems for 10 years and was always told my thyroid was fine and all my problems were because i was so over weight. About 2 years ago I went on a diet and started exercising and dropped 70 pounds. I went for my gynecology appointment and he saw the large goiter in my neck and ordered an ultrasound. Again ALL the blood tests came back within normal range. My thyroid was so enlarged it was causing me breathing and swallowing problems. I had to to have a total thyroidectomy on December 14 and one of my parathyroids removed because it was 10x it’s normal size. I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon and she said “funny how sometimes those blood tests are wrong but all of yours came back normal time after time and your thyroid & parathyroid was definitely not normal. I am glad that is over because I went to see many doctors and all said the same thing, its bc your fat and you thyroid is normal.
The one goiter I has was so large it was compressing my windpipe by 70%! The surgeon said i don’t know how you are breathing much less exercising. I said the body is amazing and mine found a way to keep me alive with some help from God.
Now I am trying to get my TSH level normal because I felt awesome for about 7 days after surgery but now I am exhausted, taking synthroid 125 mg and TSH is 4.9.

My latest labs TSH, T4 and T3 were all elevated well above the normal range. I had previously argued for any of the tests that weren't TSH but now Dr. has agreed to re-test again in a few weeks including reverse T3 and antibodies this time and has FINALLY agreed to refer me to an Endo. Until then I'm on my own to sort out how much of my medication I want to take because I feel awful when I take it and awful when I don't. I've been so excited and hopeful to finally get to speak to a specialist after almost a decade of suffering so this was NOT at all what I wanted to hear. A tiny part of me remains hopeful that you're wrong, because it's an 8 hour drive one way to a specialist, but I already know you're right :-/

My primary doctor recognized my symptoms a few years ago, so she sent me to an Endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, or hyperthyroidism. The Endodontist I see in Milwaukee WI, NEVER had a dietitian talk with me and tell me what to eat and what not to eat. I had to do ALL of the research myself. I'm still finding new things out, as far as what to avoid eating. I wish that you would cover Grave's Disease. You are mainly talking about hypothyroidism. I tried to show my Endocrinologist your video and he basically told me that if I'm not happy with the care he is giving me, that I should see someone else. Now his assistant is taking care of me. I get blood work done every 6 weeks and they are still playing with the dosage of my methimazole. This video is at least giving me other options for different specialists but like you said, most don't take insurance and are more expensive.

OMG this is so true. I was diagnosed after the birth of my second child in my 30’s even though my symptoms started at age 15. When I saw an endocrinologist instead of my general practice doctor, I was extremely ill even after being on Synthroid for about 6 years and I thought surely him being a specialist, he could finally help me. I had started to do a lot of research on the thyroid on my own at that time. First of all, when waiting in the waiting room, I saw him smoking in the room he took us, his patients into. Say what?! While smoke still filled the room, I was called in. He took my blood pressure, quickly brushed-and barely touched my thyroid area on my neck, and literally chastised me angrily, ignoring my concerns and questions, especially when I asked him if he thought armour could help me. He literally said to me “ you have wasted your time coming to see me if you think I would prescribe you armour; it’s not regulated and you don’t know what’s in it from dose to dose and besides, it comes from sheep; depending on what the sheep eat depends on what you get”. Well I didn’t respond at that time but was confused as I thought that armour was made from pig gland, not sheep. Anyway, as sick as I was, he only checked my TSH. Which guess what? Ending up coming back as normal. Thankfully since then, my health has dramatically improved but it was through research on my own, natural supplements, and through the likes of doctors like Dr. Child’s here.

Totally agree with all your endo points. They are so set in their ways and not happy when you speak up for yourselves about alternate options. Wish you had lists of Functional or Integrated physicians that you like and that possibly take insurance. I had one in Phoenix but now live in Houston. Thanks as always for all your knowledge!

Been to two different endocrinologist one was up John Hopkins hospital the one that John Hopkins all they did was put me on more high blood pressure medicine the local endo looked at me and said I think you have a hormonal imbalance but I don't know which hormone?? Needless to say I've been doing my own research found out what I was doing wrong tried to get on the right path with supplements that were suggested and feeling much better also I demanded to be taken off of synthetic hormone medicine and put on the natural armor medicine for hypothyroidism / hashimoto's I also take desiccated thyroid capsules which I purchased from a reputable dealer online

No, Dr. Child's, I have not had any success with an endocrinologist. It's exactly what you're saying. He only looks at my TSH level and keeps reducing my hormone. I feel miserable and he says it's not my thyroid. I've had a total thyroidectomy so I think I should be having a more trained doctor Internist to treat me. Please help. Thank you.

You’re 100% correct! I visited Endocrinologist and it was a complete waste of time. She did a lot of blood tests, but said all was normal, nothing wrong with me, and probably just menopause! That infuriated me. I went in with knowledge and a list of questions. She seemed irritated that I kept asking questions. She told me to go back to my physician. I’m 56, no thyroid. I tried explaining, using chart of all my numbers for the last 10 years, and how my numbers are not normal and how horrible I feel. She didn’t help in any way. My primary care is treating me 100% better than this specialist.

I’m 50, and my first trip to an endo was the same…it’s just menopause 🙄 supposed to have blood work in the morning but only because I’ve finally met my deductible for the first time in 20 years.

Cardiologists are even worse! Here, take statins! What? statins lower ldl and your ldl is dangerously low? take statins and we’ll look at it again in 6 months. Go to a different. Cardiologist. Here take statins. Statins have terrible side effects for older women, especially ones with hypothyroidism and arthritis? Just go ahead and take the statins and maybe the achy muscles will stop hurting. Just try them for 3 months then we’ll try another brand. Don’t take vitamin K2, take aspirin that causes stomach ulcers instead. Take statins to increase the calcium in your heart. Calcium in your arteries is terrible, unless it is caused by the statins and then it’s good.

Spot on. Hasimotos for 10 years. I eat super healthy, exercise, sleep well. Weight is optimal, nice body. However....im always tired. I wake up tired. My Endo tests for TSH and T4 and has had me on the same synthroid dose the whole time. When i asked about more tests (T3 and antibodies) he raised his voice and started saying i was in the normal range and no other tests were needed. The test results were anomalous, but didnt recognize it. And i still feel crappy....for the last 2 years. I am not going back to Dr. Dinosaur. I need a new doc.

My doc just told me it’s all menopause and any other treatment is simply actors trying to stay young, and because they have money, they endorse the alternative treatments”. She is only checking T4 and cortisol.

I have Hashis and had a very arrogant endo tell me that I didn't have a thyroid issue at all and his recommendation was for me to stop synthroid. I laughed and walked out. That was about 8 years ago. I have a wonderful doctor now who does all of the right tests and will treat symptoms as well. I have never met an endo who thought outside of the box.

I’m 40 years in, and I’m yet to find an endocrinologist who will listen to me. Latest guy told me my thyroid gland “ had gone to God “ Then set out increasing my dosage of Levothyroxin.

Due to the high levels of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds in whole plant foods, a plant-based diet can be beneficial if you're already dealing with a thyroid problem.
An overwhelming amount of research indicates that we should work to include five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables in our daily diets to support optimal health. Not only does this goal support total body health, but it is also ideal for thyroid health. If we are working to support thyroid health, it is wise to increase foods that support this healthy inflammation response and further protect our bodies against external and internal stressors.

What makes you and other drs like you on TH-cam understand this better than other specialists? I’m just curious. I was also reading stuff recently online about how a lot of people with tsh under like 7 don’t have any significant difference in their symptoms suggesting they’re from something else. Is this true? Or is it just because they’re only using levo?

You are a Godsend Dr. Westin😇. I have been suffering from hypothyroidism which has led to GERD and probably fertility problems for many many painful and emotional years. I have seen several PCPs and endocrinologist over the years and all they do is treat the symptoms and just until last year was doing a terrible job at that following a surgical procedure I had to check my esophagus. I have very little money at this time but I believe with God's help and the proper diet that I will finnaly be cured. AMEN 🙏

I was seeing an endo for the last 8 months for hyper thyroid. Every time I go I thought she’s going to stop my medication. Alas, she keep giving me the same medication carbimosol and propranolol and May slightly change the strength of it. I have to do T4 and TSH tests every 4 to 6 weeks. It was private practice so it costs me money. Finally I decided to go to a government based clinic, endo department though. Waiting for my appointment. Thought I’m doing the best for myself seeing a specialist!

I went from PCP to Endo who only looked at TSH then to an integrative Hormone Specialist. I feel the most cared for by this doctor. She spends about 45 min to 1 hr with me. She goes through my labs line by line. We discuss every body system. Including nutrition at every visit. I see her every 6 months now. Insurance pays for my labs. I pay cash for my provider visit. I feel very blessed to have found her.
