What you farmers do is amazing, I don’t think people realize the amount of work that goes into making crops. Thank you and all of the farmers out there for what you do for us. That plastic cover is awesome btw
Molly, getting stuck is part of farming. I didn’t blame you. You and Shane are doing a great job explaining what and how you farm, and then showing what it takes. Agriculture ambassadors! ❤️👍 And, yes, I’m smiling because you’re smiling. 😊 Shane is sooo lucky to have a beautiful helpmate.
Another great video Molly! Hi to Shane. I wondered how that plastic was layed down. The Pesky rock Grimlins! Just won't go away. Thanks for bringing us along.
The more I watch this channel the more I see your my kinda people.. Coming from a farming background with dairy , equine and small vegetable operation all my life I still learn from you folks.. Nice garden set up! My son had a small organic farm. We did rows about half the size of yours for a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. Our implement formed the mound and laid down plastic pretty much like yours. Our difference is we had drip irrigation hoses under the plastic. Very nice for saving water and keeping weeds down. And the plastic could be a pain at times. A little wouldn't get enough dirt on the side and a little breeze would make it a Holy Crap! moment.
Hey Shane and Molly. Another great episode showing the hard work and challenges of field preparation, disc tillage and planting! The segment showing the installation of the black biodegradable plastic film was very interesting. Never witnessed that process before. The implement that you were using to roll out and bury the edges of the plastic was a really cool piece of equipment. Really fascinating to watch. Thanks for another great video! You guys are gettin it done! Take care!
It's always a pleasure to watch you and Shane working together! Your channel is not like the other farming channels I watch because your the only potatoe farmers I watch 👍
I learn so much from each of your videos. Your dedication and love for farming is admirable. I look forward to seeing the garden grow in future videos 🙂

Hi Molly and Shain, Wow, those planting beds look EXECELLENT.!! I made something like that machine to put weed barricade down for tree planting. It did the job but your is better. I see the potatoes I planted about two weeks ago are starting to emerge but our soybean fields are still to wet to begin planting them. The small grains and sugar beets that have been planted here look great. Thanks for the video.
I love the use of "Garden" to describe what looks like acres and acres. My "garden" is about 1/3 of an acre. I've seen The Veggie Boys (and Girls) use biodegradable film for a while now and it certainly seems to give them benefits.
Great information. Molly, you and Shane make a great, hard working team. Please be careful and avoid riding on implements. Accidents can happen and we don't want to see anything happen to you.

Long ago I knew this guy that grew field corn in the Yakima Valley . He always planted some sweet corn for relatives to pick . Somewhere along the way the thank yous became few if any . That was the year he planted all field corn and did not say anything to his family . No one said a thing but they knew they had been had .
Molly the plastic looks awesome and your plants will come up in no time, you and Shane are doing awesome. and i am glad you grow rocks too i thought it was only our fields. I swear that i go through with the rock picker and i believe i got them all and then the next year its like they bred a new.. holy crap we have lots of rocks,... and huge piles. of them... So i asked my grandfather i said you know how the road.... coming into the place!!!!.... was so so muddy and everyone always complained about road? only came when it was dry after you took the tractor and smoothed it out.. yea so he said? i said give the rocks a new home and if it is breeding program hell let them breed there.. it took a minute before grandpa responded and then he laughed.. he said you threw me when you said breeding program.. but yes good idea great idea.. so we loaded rocks and dumped them on road to house. And we had the only cobbled roadway ever built. Reminded me of Europe and some of the cities i walked through...And since you pick so many when harvesting i would put them in a a windrow, and then a pile and then come then pick them up. you were talking about reclaiming gravel pits? good place to put them. Just saying take care be safe have fun it is what life is about.
Hello Shane and Molly from bells farms I heard you mention laying that black plastic and wondered how that was done well now we no how that's done spose we get to learn all sorts of stuff from the agricultural community thank you we enjoy your videos
Anybody that thinks you would “stage” getting stuck like that doesn’t own and operate machinery! Who would put their valuable equipment at risk and, at the least, create such a mess to clean up, both machinery and field?! Ignore and carry on! 👏🏼😉
Molly, about a week before your tractor got stuck, I managed to sink my tractor while running a brush hog. Our land has a high sand component with areas that have pure sand pockets. With all of the rain we have had in northeast Texas, these pockets turn to quicksand that hides beneath the pasture grasses. I was rolling along and the tractor suddenly sank in an instant. All the way to the axles. So don't feel bad about your sunk tractor. It's part of the game.
I see we have a fellow gamer working that field 😁. Been watching you guys for a bit and the videos are great and gives a good peak into a small bit of farming land.
My brother had a farm in Oklahoma. 1 year he planted four rows of Black eyed peas, and for rows of okra. Maybe two rows of what y'all planted. His main crop was peanuts, so whatever the peanuts got, peas in okra got two! They was under a pivot also. We filled up, two of the biggest chest freezers you can buy! We would tell people you can come pick some, but they only wanted it if it was already picked! We filled up them chest freezer in less than a month!
Hey Molly just thought you would like to know that we have potato fields sprouting, they just started showing this week up here in the county. Fields in Ashland, Mapleton, Castle Hill, Washburn, Presque Isle, and probably a lot more that we haven't been by yet, I would imagine some of your earlier fields are as well, happy rails to you & Shane. Dave D.
I have to say, it's fascinating to watch the work that goes into farming. Should be made into a curriculum for all high schools. I found the machine placing plastic so simple yet clever. I always learn something new. Thank you for a great channel.
That old 4000 is a pretty clean tractor. On most of those tractors, the front end of the hoods are mashed up. The 4000 was the economical version of 4020, it had the same engine but less features and was built lighter.
Oh, getting stuck is a fact of life in farming, no shame in that. springtime here in the Northeast is like that, sometimes a really wet spring, or just wet spots that never really dry up. Can be dry but then relenting rain for long stretches. Getting unstuck is the trick though lol. Heavier tractors now, but even the old M's and 4020's can sink like stone.
You use gps and auto steer on the tractor when planting corn. Why doesn’t Bell farm not use gps for tillage? Nice video. Farming has such a wide array of how it down. Very nice video.
Ok this vid is some 6 mth ago. You have what looks like an old crappy laying machine and look at the results you achieve. Man oh man, I take my hat off to you both. I learn so much from you guys.
Great video again. What type of protective gear do you wear when loading the fertilizer? Twenty-five years ago on my farm, the fertilizer for corn was so unhealthy to touch or breathe we wore full protective gear with air tanks for breathing. After two years, we decided the risk wasn't worth it can changed to no fertilizer hay.
Thank you. These videos are very fun to watch, and I'm also learning a lot about farming. I must ask, what is the plastic used for? It's interesting to see how it's laid out as well. Also, I've always wanted to know why farmers spread lime in their fields? as well. Thank you for sharing, it's always nice to see a new video posted I look forward to seeing them. Have a great day. 😊
I grew upon a farm in North Dakota and rocks were a constant problem. As a kid my dad and I would load 5 gallon pils up and dump them in the trailer which was dumped on a central rock pile in each field. I hate rocks.
Tax right off...Rain Flo and Nolts both build fertilizer attachments for there mulch layers. I need to buy one for my Nolts model. Mulch layers are sweet machines. Plastic mulch sure helps with tomato production!
@@BellsFarming we started using the mulch layer in 2020. It really helps on weed control, minus morning glory. Only God can kill that one. Production for us sure increased dramatically. Although, we did find out the hard way what happens to cantaloupes if the melons are on top of the plastic after a rain storm and if that plastic may not have a tight fit. In my case, a center crease due to the drip tape bar leaving its track behind. Anyway, standing water+melon+100 degree Temps = humans gagging from the stench. Also, when you have time, I think the Univ of Maryland did a study on the different colors of mulch and they noted that using white seemed to act as a pest deterrent. We tried it on our pumpkins. Squash beetles seemed to shy away, not completely, but the numbers were no where as bad as what the black plastic was. I also alternate my rows with it when I plant onions. White rows, to me, seem to slow down the growth of onions which helps me out by not having them all come on at once. Downside, black on white plastic is spendy.

I grew up on a farm until I finished school then off to do an apprenticeship. Dad got a plot of land after WWII and there were no fences, nothing. 1948. Built up a diary farm. It was tough with what I remember but tougher for him. What I am saying is that farmers make do with what they have.

It was tough with what I remember but tougher for him. What I am saying is that farmers make do with what they have. This was in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia
Never seen that process before. In the valley of farms we lived in most just used a corner of a field closest to the house & it got treated like the rest of the field but it was the garden area.
Hey Molly I know you didn’t fake it. I’ve been stuck in sand/mud when I went to the Philippines in 95 for missionary service. It was a tough job to get our jeep out much less pull out that massive tractor…so well done you two. I think you explained this before, but why do you put the plastic down? When I lived in California strawberry farmers used to do that I could never understand why. I love your laugh!🤣
Lesson 1 for next year. Avoid the field with the rocks. But then it should not be used for potatoes either. You could try a rock picker, but they normally only pick up the big ones and rocks seem to float to the surface each time it is cultivated. Thanks for the video.
Man that old JD laying down that weed block would of been great in my yard over the years instead of using those god damn weed block spikes that wouldn't hold for crap in the ground...hahaha Another informative video I love. When corn season is ready to be picked could I order a dozen at least from your store and ship it to Conn?
The lay machine we used to use had coulters in front and we used the wide plates to keep the rear coulters from throwing dirt too far up on the plastic. We used it for watermelons. Not a big fan of plastic it kinda makes a mess. Was finding it a few years later and it was the biodegradable type. Was wanting to try the waxed craft paper but got busy with my business and stopped planting all together
Hi Molly! I have always wondered how the plastic gets put down so it says down. Now I know. Also, does rain repel off the plastic until the plants 🌱 start to break through? Thanks.
Molly and Shane! Little did I know when I started this video that I would be given tickets to the Shane gun show! Man’s got some arms on him! lol as for the plastic for the garden, in my earlier gardens I used plastic too, but I didn’t have access to biodegradable stuff. So for a few years I either had no plastic or I bought the landscaping fabric. Oh btw I planted my garden yesterday so that’s excited! I also discovered a Robin family built a nest under my deck again! Always a fun watch! Thanks again for making the video!
Very similar to the same type of plastic that the “Veggie Boys” use. They are a very interesting bunch to watch. They grow about 80 acres of vegetables that they sell through their farm market along with meat and eggs from the farm too. Check them out, if you think you have rocks, they really have rocks.
Hey guys, another GREAT video! There's so much I appreciate about them; learning about various aspects of your operations, watching the great teamwork between everyone, positivity, etc. It's also great to watch you grow your videography and editing skills. You're doing an amazing job. There hasn't been a bad video, and each is better than the last. Thank you for sharing a small part of your lives. Not an easy thing to do. I may have missed this, or it was in another video, but what is the reason for the plastic? I've seen it before in fields, but never understood its use. I had a similar question about hilling the potato fields, but found the answer on TH-cam 🙂 Apologies if this is a redundant question... Keep up the fantastic work, and looking forward to your next video!
I told my wife, whose name is Molly, that I needed some weight on the tractor. She said where do you want me. Well,on the front of the hood. Every neighbor went by that day and waved. She said you did that on purpose. Did I? I really enjoy you guys. Farming isn't easy. But, you can get stuck in traffic too. Lol

Dad got a plot of land after WWII and there were no fences, nothing. 1948. Built up a diary farm. It was tough with what I remember but tougher for him.
What I am saying is that farmers make do with what they have.
Really appreciate 🙏 you guys ❤
Thank you!
Looking forward to see how you plant corn through the plastic.
good job laying the plastic Molly. You're a pro

This was in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia
Thanks Molly!🐾🚜

Never seen that process before. In the valley of farms we lived in most just used a corner of a field closest to the house & it got treated like the rest of the field but it was the garden area.
Hey Molly I know you didn’t fake it. I’ve been stuck in sand/mud when I went to the Philippines in 95 for missionary service. It was a tough job to get our jeep out much less pull out that massive tractor…so well done you two. I think you explained this before, but why do you put the plastic down? When I lived in California strawberry farmers used to do that I could never understand why. I love your laugh!🤣
It helps with weeds!
What happens in a tractor, stays in a tractor 😊
Bow Chica Bow Bow...😊
Lesson 1 for next year. Avoid the field with the rocks. But then it should not be used for potatoes either. You could try a rock picker, but they normally only pick up the big ones and rocks seem to float to the surface each time it is cultivated. Thanks for the video.
I usually put a soak line under the plastic for water. Be interesting to see how this works without that and just overhead water.
Man that old JD laying down that weed block would of been great in my yard over the years instead of using those god damn weed block spikes that wouldn't hold for crap in the ground...hahaha Another informative video I love. When corn season is ready to be picked could I order a dozen at least from your store and ship it to Conn?
Shanebell,9589 I admire what you are doing. So much involved manually not just bossing. You are just amazing.
Shane really is amazing. He knows so much about and is a great teacher for me. Lucky me!
Thank you Shane I figured that was what you used the plastic for but didn't want to assume so without asking
Wanna see guns, go to Welker Farms, Scott, nickbame Leg, Arms. Can barely bend his elbows far enough to eat, which he obviously does!!
@@glennspreeman1634 lol a beast of a man eh?
Lol
Nice tires on the 4000. Don't know why I noticed that.
They are almost new, the rears anyway
Hey you two, good job. Wish we were closer. I have peatmoss...... 50 acres and 5 feet deep. I let my community help themself to it ,for there gardens
Hey Colin! I wish we were too! I need that! 🫶
Very similar to the same type of plastic that the “Veggie Boys” use. They are a very interesting bunch to watch. They grow about 80 acres of vegetables that they sell through their farm market along with meat and eggs from the farm too. Check them out, if you think you have rocks, they really have rocks.
When was this planted
We finished the squash last night, now pumpkins this upcoming week
Great job guys, but Molly you might need a green shirt for the weight job! lol
Hahah I need to match the tractor you are right!
Mainly for weed control
Thank you! You are so nice!
Lol
Very good story!! Thank you very much for sharing! Have a wonderful day!
