Thank you for posting your videos about the EG4 18kpv install at your parent's house. Very similar to my install. I have searched for months about this situation and you have helped me more in an hour watching your videos than months of searching. Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks! More to come but slow progress on the bulk of solar panels getting installed. That is my goal to help people looking to use this equipment
It is great to see how the 18K can be used. We use our 18KPV completely off grid with only 30 kilowatts of batteries. I think everyone should get at least one.
Features are awesome from the testing so far. 👍
EG4 rates that battery for 200A continuous discharge. 160A is really safe and recommended, but I am going to set mine to 185/190A until I hook up a second in parallel.
Great video!
Hey thanks! Just taking it easy until I get more solar hooked up. Then will increase output since solar will do most of the work until later in the day
Thanks for this video Rodney. Always enjoy your content.
Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for showing some of
the features.
You bet. 👍
@Rodney so i am doing a ton of research and so far the EG4 18Kpv or the LuxPowertek LB-US 8-10k will do 100% what i am looking for, however the 18Kpv can support way more than the max 6Kpv I have, and future EG4 12Kpv or LuxPowertek LB-US 8-10K can do 2x my max, so buying the EG4 18Kpv that supports 3x more than my MAX pv I feel is way over kill and costing 3-4x more than the 6000XP is truly a waste, all that extra money could go to more batteries, and the ONLY feature i truly like on the 18Kpv is the fact you can use the GRID connection to backfeed your main panel, what i do not understand is both the 6000XP and the 18Kpv has two CT’s RJ45 ports, so why can’t the 6000XP do the same via its GRID connection? Would be awesome if this could be tested.
Probably so people will purchase the grid tie inverter is my only guess. The 6000xp is marketed as a off grid inverter so giving it those functions at that cost point might nit be wise from a business perspective is my guess.
Thanks for sharing, also you are looking trimmed up! Good work!
Hey thanks! Carnivore diet
Great video! I like the way you can ‘try’ to zero out the main panel with this inverter. Guess you have to really figure out what you want your discharge SOC to go down to in order to make sure you have enough battery for critical loads when grid (and main panel) is down.
Very true! Once all panels are installed I will start moving some loads over to see how it does. I’m sure more batteries will be coming in the future but you got to start somewhere
@@rodneyhunt keep up the great content. Can’t wait to see more on this one. I installed a 6000xp but wish I went this direction instead to supplement power back to main panel with excess PV after critical loads are met and batteries charged.
Thanks for sharing! I am trying to understand the maximum power it can supply in a grid-tied configuration. For example, if the load is more than the ~15kw inverter capacity, will it just keep supplying 15kw from the inverter and supply the rest of the load using the grid (up to the 200amp grid pass through limit?)
Nice video and nice pergola. May I know which brand of pergola are you using? How easy is it to put it together. Maybe an affiliate link would be helpful. Thanks.
Wouldn’t recommend the pergola as this will be temporary. Going to build a lean to type shelter for the panels soon. But it was from Lowes I believe
Question regarding pass-through mode with grid assist: When the house load exceeds the max 50A 12kw AC output of the inverter (supply from battery/solar/grid), does the inverter passthrough all this power from the grid completely? Or does the inverter passthrough only the incremental power from grid, while using available solar/battery concurently? Example: If house load goes from 10kw to 18kw, will it switch to passthrough all of the 18kw from grid with no solar feeding the load? or just the additional 6kw from grid (18kw load - 12kw max ac output) allowing solar/battery to concurrently feed 12kw to load? Thank you
I have this as a partial home backfeed breaker setup. But on the grid side of inverter it will feed back into main grid panel to cover loads when PV or battery power are available. Minus any loads you are powering on your critical loads panel. So grid and inverter will power main panel loads at the same time in this setup. I will need to check on the grid bypass for whole home setup
So I verified that yes after 12kw all loads will be on grid bypass until the loads are less than 12kw again. When using whole house setup
Hey Rodney, I just stumbled upon your channel the other day and have been going through all your videos. Do you know if the 6000xp has a built-in way to set up zero export if I fed it into my main panel at home? trying to figure out if I want to go off grid or hybrid. they wont do any sort of net metering here from what I was told. i don't want to give them free lunch after they have been taking advantage of a monopoly all these years. Thanks
No it doesn’t. But the 18k has that built in and have been testing that out on my parents house. Hopefully get the bulk of the panels installed soon to make a real difference!
@@rodneyhunt Thanks for the quick reply
👍
is there any chance you could post your settings for the 18k? i have a nearly identical setup that i just installed but i cant get the settings set right
Will see what I can do
Can test to see if it will run without a battery? Just solar and grid.
Good idea! 👍
The max output current for the 18kpv is 50 amps though right?
No since it can surge much higher or if it is using 120 volt loads the amps will go up as well. But the amps I talked about most of the time are DC amps except when speaking of the AC grid backfeed breaker of 70 amps.
@@rodneyhunt Oh nice, thanks!
How loud is it while it's running? Do the fans whine all day and night?
Completely silent during low power usage and no PV input. If higher than maybe 5000 watts output it starts to make noise. Will do a test video in the future showing exactly how much
@@rodneyhunt I just installed a Hoymiles 7.6kw Hybrid. It has no fans, so it's as quiet as a church in my garage.
Nice! I was looking at some of the micro inverters they have for testing
That 18 is kinda a bad a** inverter. Some people seem to like it better than the 15k solarks from what I see on TH-cam
Seems to be from the testing I have done so far. 👍
@@rodneyhunt 5 grand seems like a lot of money to me but with its capabilities and size I guess it's a great price. Ive never seen a inverter that had all the features like you was showing us. Thanks for doing the videos
