  • In this video I test AK Extreme Metal Colors. It's an enamel based paintwhich sets it apart from most paints on the market. Testors is the only other widely distributors of enamel hobby paint and theey have been discontinued. Of coarse I will be comparing them to my favorite metal paints Alclad. Let's see how they hold up.

    This is awesome, ty for doing this. I love enamel and sad the choices have dwindled, but these things look great. Should hold me over just fine. Thanks again

    The metallic blue and purple are for e.g. jet engine exhaust, to simulate the very high temperatures. You give it just a very light coat of it over the base metal color

    Hello i would like to ask you something please, have you already tested or know if the AK black primer and microfiller, could be good to use for gundam? if doesnt fill or "delete" some of the details of the figure? and then use these AK Xtreme Metal over it for a good finish shine? on website doesnt say if the primer is matte or gloss and it seems more glossy is the primer better results in the end for metal colors right?

    Got a question, with the AK system or enamel based paints, can you layer them to build highlights of a sort while retaining the reflective nature?

  • @billclark5943
    @billclark5943 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting how all the paint manufacturers create titanium paints that don't look like titanium. Titanium is naturally a dull grey color that will not mirror polish. There are coatings used on titanium products that look like some of these paints but not the raw material. AK's titanium paint does look great though.

    Love your videos. Regarding these Xtreme Metals, I have several bottles and some labels say it is lacquer and some say it is enamel (I even have two bottle of Stainless Steel and one label says enamel, the other lacquer). Do you know if they changed the formula at some point, or is one label a mistake? I always thought these were enamels...

    • @barbatosrex9473

      I will always favor Alclad but I recently painted a Cadillac model for my brother who's building the actual car and wanted it a metal copper color. I showed him ever one I had and he picked the Vallejo. Go to my channel and look up my community section. I put up a picture of it there. It looks great. But it must be protected by a Varnish for sure

      This may sound silly, but take a magnifying glass to that gloss black surface before you spray the metallic paint. What you see will likely suprise you. You'll probably see a grainy or orange peel like surface. See, it's less about the gloss black undercoat and more about how smooth the under surface is. To get the result you're looking for, that gloss black surface has got to be glass smooth.

    You're supposed to put these over a black base

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I asked a red from AK and he said it didn't matter. When I tried them over a black base, Alclad Gloss Black Base to be exact, it made no difference but for a slight shade darker that's tough to see on camera. So I figured I'd just go directly on the plastic eliminating a step the viewers don't have to do. As you can see in the video the gun model was painted over black plastic and it looks the same as the spoons.

    These are enamel metallics. You can't panel line, or do enamel washes on top of these or the thinner will eat straight down to the plastic. Hard pass.
