He had punk streaming from Pandora and he and I had a lenghty conversation about old school punk rock/metal. I thought it was prttey cool. Not everyday I run into a black punk/metal head. Rare where I live lol.

Listen to the church music of the Appalachia region and the snake handling pentecostal sects in particular. That is primeval rock and roll stripped to it's bare bones. Black America with Gospel and the blues had an undoubted huge impact but rock has always been a musical melting pot drawing on different cultural currents.

Two of the very first African - American punk bands were (proto-punk bands) from as far back as 1974, they were Death (from Detroit) and Pure Hell. HR from Bad Brains cites Death as a early influence on him and B Brains early hardcore punk music. Also, some other bands Oi! bands with black skinhead members (Omar claimed to be skinhead far as I know RIP Omar) Though I wouldn't call Negro Terror strictly an Oi! band when most of their tunes are basically grind-core. Some better and lesser known Oi bands with black skinheads in them. - Oxblood (NYC) - Templars - Outreau - United Blood - Bad Assets and there's more, and NONE of these bands are racist, all non racist - regular skinhead Oi! bands. cheers

About same time as reggae but almost always far superior. Look up Hazel Adkins - Skinhead. Ive seen japanese skins, koreans skins, african skins, its a welcoming music you just need to be pure at heart, loyal to your friends and basically focused on drinking and dancing. Bad brains is arguably the greatest hardcore band of all time and Skrewdriver was a mediocre oi band with shockingly hateful lyrics. I was just pointing out the absurdity of thinking this is a cover of a Bad Brains song. Nobody should have the audacity to cover Bad Brains anyway, in 30 years of listening to punk rock I’ve never heard a cover of one of their songs that did justice because H.R. is a truly singular human being.

Just in case anyone is interested, and doesn't already know. Two of the very first African - American punk bands were (proto-punk bands) from as far back as 1974, they were Death (from Detroit) and Pure Hell. HR from Bad Brains cites Death as a early influence on him and B Brains early hardcore punk music.
Also, some other bands Oi! bands with black skinhead members (Omar claimed to be skinhead far as I know RIP Omar) Though I wouldn't call Negro Terror strictly an Oi! band when most of their tunes are basically grind-core.
Some better and lesser known Oi bands with black skinheads in them.

They released another one after For whole world, in 2011, called Spiritual - Mental - Physical , not heard it all yet so cannot comment on it. Nicely put and important information for the people esp americans who never understood Oi! I mean both ska and oi! Had their origins in music from montego bay in Jamaica. About same time as reggae but almost always far superior. Look up Hazel Adkins - Skinhead. Ive seen japanese skins, koreans skins, african skins, its a welcoming music you just need to be pure at heart, loyal to your friends and basically focused on drinking and dancing. And the bands totally unique everyone. Look up wikipedia Oi! Ive listed a large number of true oi! Bands.
