    Got the DGT SE goldtop like 10 days ago, I had the DGT Core before, andOMG, the SE is absolutely fantastic. Love the looks as well, not a fan of dark or balck backs in general, but there is something so plesing in the looks wehere the gold changes to the dark, so cool.
    Plays as goodd as the Core, I would just say that the SE's have like their own thing going, cos has that same feel of my Paul's Guitar SE that I also find plays phenomenal. And the tone here wow, is that tone that I loved of the Core. Damn, the pickups here are just so so good of the DGT. Hard to tell differences, I would say the bridge the core maybe has a bit slighty more harmonics going, but overall is that same thing, so you are not missing for not having the core pickups I would say. But the bridge I prefer the SE, has like a more noticable glassy thing goin that gives that extra thing, the core sounded warmer to me.
    If I had extra money for sure, would get a core, why not, but playing one or the other, Im happy and satisfied with either of them, and dot feel im missing something having the SE.
    I had the Silver sky core and slver sky SE, and I think there you have more differences, because the neck are not the same, frets, radius and chunkiness are different, and pickups on the SS I think are close, but also the SE silver sky pickups are a bit hotter, so are no like the exact same thing being replicated, I love the silver sky SE, I connected more with the 8.5 radius and thought sounded fantastic, but the DGT Se I think its even closer to the core.
    One detail, that maybe is not real, but I think I noticed that the DGT SE frets are a tad tiny bit lower and les wider than the core. I found the core frets to be huge, and the SE very big, but more comfortable for some reason. Although it might be because the DGT I had the frets were used, you could see the frets how they were parts in various frets the little hole it starts making, although, so a crown level and polish I think would have make it perfect. the DGT Se the frets are polished lovely and out of the box was just a joy to play and bend, felt the same as the stainless steel frets guitars ive had, and it actuallythat makes it just a nicer experience when you play.

    Nice level-headed review. I ordered a goldtop from Chicago Music Exchange and I'm hoping that CME will do a good setup to address your issues out of the box.

    My PRS SE gold was also in bad condition. Actually I am working on the nut and the neck curve. Also some frets are too high... But the guitar sounds killer and resonant and has only a weight of 3,21 kg. Others were more heavier (3,5 or 3,6 kg).

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seems really common thing on the early runs of them. Wonder if PRS are aware of it with so many just sorting it out themselves kind of thing.
      But yeh man it is a killer guitar and to get a particularly light one is even better

      It belongs to Steve so I dont know exact weight. But Ive filmed a whole lot of guitars and this one is on the lighter side of all of them.

    Clearly has nothing to do with PRS but UK pricing is always way above the norm … both great guitars the SE DGT and Silver Sky … my DGT came fine but I did hear they where having some issues production wise which is honestly rare for PRS … knobs are great 😉

    • @Paul-D

      UK pricing on PRS in particular is SO weird this year. You can get some stuff new for like £1000 or more off…. Steve has bought another since this vid which we will look at next week now this has some gigs under its belt

    Hi. Great review. Could you please give a link to the graphtech nut you bought? There seems to be different part numbers online and some people commented that it is little narrow for their PRS SE guitars but, you mentioned yours fitted perfectly.Thank you.

    nice guitar, id have the gold top too, i wish they would make a black or a green one, in time perhaps, i have the 85 15 pickups and at home im not that crazy for them, but they shine at live gigs

    Alright seems like some of them are coming with a black headstock and black back finished but yours looks like a dark brown to me. Can you confirm please? Did you order it differently or asked for some sort of softener spec? I would love the brown back and headstock finish. And great video. Thanks again

    Hi, any tips on rolling the edges, the frets do pretty much go to the edge of the fretboard. Seems to be a slight gap between the fret ends and the fingerboard on some of the frets.

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Get a fret end file and just subtly round them off a little. I then take a sharp blade to the corner of the fingerboard and just very gently add a little round over (only ever on nonbinded rosewood) very fine sandpaper can also do the trick. Slow and steady and checking your work.

    Interesting you had problems out of the box. Mine was really good. Slight tuning issues, but that was cured after a few days playing. I have the tobacco sunburst and in my view its well worth the price. Maybe the more recent batch have had issues as they try to keep up with such a high demand.

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh id say thats a huge part of it. Theres got to be alot of pressure on getting these out there atm.
      In general though, no matter whether something is expensive or not - if its produced in huge numbers theres always going to be variation on what comes out the box. Just generally nothing too major 😁

      We're now in the truly Twilight Zone where on the same Andertons page, the "older" white/green/dragonfruit rosewood Sky SE are £599, and right next to them the new maple Sky SE and new black/grey rosewood Sky SE announced today are £979. For the same guitar 😂
      It's quite stark when you're looking at them all on one page

    Hmm...not the first video pointing up issues with these. Gives the lie somewhat to all the marketing puff beforehand about Mr Grissom insisting on ultra high standards of workmaship... I was taken in, I confess 🥴 My goldtop came in January and I sent it back as it had a very visible wood knot in the binding. Some would say I was being picky, but for a nearly £1k investment I need to be happy with all aspects of the instrument. The retailer recently received two more but they had 'streaky bacon' fingerboards so I declined. Yes, I also picked up from somewhere in the early marketing flurry that these were special and as such were shipped to PRS USA for final inspection/fettling. More nonsense! I like the features of this model, but I'm now nervous about ordering another one in case I end up having to face the palaver of returning it.

      Maybe would be best to call a new dealer first and be pretty explicit in your experience so far and what you expect from it? I’d bet they would be pretty certain to make sure you got there best one after that
