I think that's a reference to how much kid Trunks take after Vegeta since he could smell the deer in the first spirit bomb after Goku took to much energy from it
The fact that the Super Saiyan 3 transformation is badass despite being sandwiched between "There's little zappy-zaps, see?" and "This is a Super-De-Duper Saiyan" is a testament to both the original scene _and_ TFS's tone management skills.
I’m pretty sure Super-De-Duper Saiyan was what vegeta aka best buddy said he was going to achieve after seeing gohan go super duper sayian in cell games
I love that they kept the "And this is to go even further beyond!" from the original dub. Gives it more of a serious moment tone. As usual they know exactly when to put those moments in. Also the "Oh no go ahead Goku, waste the last of the time you have there WHIPPING OUT YOUR DICK" line from King Kai totally killed me.
I can imagine even TFS Goku saying "And this is to go even further beyond!" being as fightsexual as he is, it's a massive achievement that he's proud of.
Yeah I think TFS generally had a good sense of when to pay respect to the source material instead of making a joke. And the joke can still come after, like "super dee duper saiyan". One great example would be 16's head speaking to Gohan, it was really serious for the most part to give weight to the scene, but in the end it went back to funny with the "grab my head and beat him to death with it".
That IS interesting. Considering Goku has by this point in the timeline firmly cemented himself as the biggest badass in the universe, he's kind of IN Freeza's position from when they fought; the uncontested strongest being in the universe going up against an idiot who just woke up, who cares little for all his grandstanding and powerups and just wants to get to the fighting. And I can’t forget Little Kuriboh’s Yu Gi Oh Abridged series. Yes, I can be “cringe” but it’s a legit question, why should Masako get an award for doing something that Sean has done several times? Is it because he’s doing on TH-cam on a less professional platform? Because everyone is blinded by nostalgia of when Team Four Star was at the top? Because from what I see here in this bit, it’s pretty much just a meh level bit. The script is pretty much what the original dub says, give or take a few lines. “Admire their work,” more like praise them for saying what the original English dub said. 😂
Honestly, kinda surprised Kaiser went with the Faulkner score, since he kinda hates most of it. But I'm pretty sure he probably had to agree that it was the best score for this specific scene.
@@HarokuSionI mean, he did use the SS Vegeta theme for the Final Flash. And the Perfect Cell theme a good few times. And Gohan Angers was in the Father-Son Kamehameha track! I think the big thing is, yes, Kaiser isn't fond of the score as a whole, but he has given praise to some tracks. And they kinda treated Abridged as a celebration of the series later on, so makes sense to throw American fans a bone. Besides, he already gets his way by using a lot of music from the original version, Kai and the many video games, not to mention getting a remix of Unmei No Hi in English.
@JLuisJoni meh, I know he uses the score on occasion. I was just pleasantly surprised that he chose the English ssj3 theme. Just as I was surprised as Masako saying the phrase "go further beyond". Like I really do love how this was really well executed and there were parts that both had me rolling on the floor with a cramped stomache and other times I was impressed by how tfs really knows how to explain away plot holes. For example, Super Saiyan, super duper Sayain, and super dee duper Sayain became ssj1 ssj2 and ssj3 by babidi and everyone Would start saying it because it takes less time to say. And I was like, "huh you know what as funny as the call back was and how similar Goku and Vegeta's brains were on the next stage of ssj, this was a great way to just explain that the transformations are 1 2 and 3 respectively.
The immediate flip between the goofy "there's more zappy zaps!" to that bloodchilling power up scream is such a testament to how amazing of an actor Masako is, actual goosebumps, just like Lani's Majin Vegeta scream. God bless you TFS and TotallyNotMark. Also, I am in love that everyone (except Babadi) unironically calls SSJ2 and 3 "Super-Duper" and "Super-Dee-Duper" respectively.
@@adriannash2705 That'll be Super Saiyan God (since in Mark's review he posted today, TFS had a Buu Bits mentioning the events of Super during the End of Z)
I can see Goku calling it Maximum Oversaiyan, with Vegeta trying to convince him to use the _proper_ name out of fear for Beerus, until he decides that "Maximum Oversaiyan" actually sounds cool. And of course, they call Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan "Maximum Oversaiyan Over-Maximum" for as long as that's funny.
as a parody made by fans who love the original, it hits so hard when theres a line completely unchanged from the original i.e. "This is to go even further beyond" and "Does an android like yourself feel fear"
@@Dracogame nakatsuru designed ssj4, not toriyama. he designed some stuff for gt but not that edit: I also like how ppl are always like "but the magic pants tho" when it's like...do they not realize the alternative would be to have goku fight naked?? ik it doesn't rly make sense but it had to be done
I might be wrong, but i don't think he did. Listen again, the sound changes for the main part of the scream, and it sounds like Sean doing it. At 0:35 and again at 1:17
Masako's range is amazing, if you listen his take on Episode 30 and him imitating Masako Nosawa's performance during the SSJ scene, you can see how amazingly similar he is to the original and that was the intention in the episode itself, and here you can see how similar he is Sean Schemmel's voice when saying "THIS IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND", and the scream itself. He literally has the power of both Gokus.
"You killed my best friend!" in episode 30 is the line in question. That and "I'm going to break you!" was SOOOOOOOO chilling. MasakoX is just awesome.
I've always thought MasakoX was a ridiculously talented voice actor, but hearing his pitch perfect impression of Masako Nozawa in his Ep 30 commentary was mindblowing.
I love that you can immediately see a parallel between Goku and Buu. Both are very simple minded individuals with child-like innocence and a love for playing/fighting.
It's crazy how good Masako's scream is. It unironically matches Sean Schemmel's performance in both quality and likeness, which is really crazy! Like seriously, listen to them both back to back in places.
@@br9760 No it's not really a meh. Obviously Sean's got the power being a professional VA but seriously, listen to Masako's take on Goku and listen to this. The fact that man can scream like that is something to be acknowledged and praised.
The delivery of the Funi SSJ3 music was very much appreciated. Y'all don't often use the western score but when you do get it redone, it's absolutely worth.
If there was a Super abridged: "Do you smell that?" "I *see* that!" Sight is the only sense they haven't done, so that was kind of a process of elimination.
I love that Goku's SSJ3 impacts all senses ;Goten hears him, Piccolo feels him, Kuririn tastes it, Trunks smells it and Buu of course sees it and touches it when Goku punches him.
"What's that smell?" had me rolling because the joke of "I *felt* that!" and "I *taste* that!" has been recurring all through the show but Trunks turning around without prompting and saying "What's that smell?" means that it's not a joke and this entire time, in-universe whenever somebody gets strong enough they could actually feel/taste/smell that. Seeing these clips really makes me wish the whole Buu saga could've been done
This is perfect on so many levels. From the flow and delivery of the banter between Goku, Babidi, and Buu, MasakoX's beautiful scream that was surprisingly similar to Sean Schemel's iconic scream from this scene, but with its own flavor, and the subtle evolution of the "I can feel that" joke ending with Trunks going, "What's that smell" to round off the senses. Even if we're not getting the full Season, I can't begin to thank you guys enough for coming back to do these clips.
This and Vegeta's sacrifice part were the entire reason everyone wanted buy saga abridged, only thing that would compare is the Vegeta and Goku fight, altho Vegeta finding out about ssj3 will be hilarious too
😂 but hear me out guys! how much funnier would it have been if on that last part of the scream we got the squeak sound effect . b4 the reveal of super D duper saiyan... 😅
I love how Masako did the tiny little change in his voice to emphasize just how much more serious he is with every single Super Saiyan, and the iconic rule of "transformation sequences have to have a voice crack" too
MasakoX really put his all into his scream here. I love just how much effort has gone into these shorts over the past few weeks, it's just beyond amazing!
OKAY CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW MASAKO EVEN CHANGES HIS GOKU VOICE WHEN HE'S IN SSJ3??? HE MAKES IT A LITTLE DEEPER AND MORE SERIOUS THE SAME WAY GOKU DOES IT IN THE SHOW, IT'S THE REASON I ALWAYS LOVED THE FORM SO MUCH AND I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE IT HERE
@@BrothaDahrkness Did they say that tho? Cuz while the screams do sound like Sean Schemmel, I can tell they're different audio clips than any of the other versions on this scene, as far as Z and Kai are concerned. I'd say it's most likely just that MasakoX has nailed the screams by now 👌

@@colmecolwagI love DBZ to death and I will say the Buu Saga had some of the coolest moments in the franchise, but as an overall cohesive story it did lack compared to the Cell Saga.
Yeah. Masako never really sounded like the dub Goku during the series. Which was fine. That scream was probably the closest I ever heard him get to the original. Was super (dee duper).
I love the more somber tone you did with the music choice here. There's a little sense of grand majesty in this tone, rather than the extreme hype that the original seemed to give off. Also, love how the energy senses are raised even further. First, hear, then feel, then taste, and now smell. We're down to "sight".
Everyone's reaction to Ultra Instinct's bright light in the middle of the ToP "My lord, do you feel that...?" "Whis. I not only feel, smell, taste, and hear it....BUT I FUCKING SEE IT!!! MY EYEEEEES!!!"
It's a remix of the Kai theme for the scene mixed with the Faulconer score. It's pretty neat. Kai version: th-cam.com/video/SQCL0odju7M/w-d-xo.html Falcouner version: th-cam.com/video/K61rG1hxBwA/w-d-xo.html
The change MasakoX does for his SS3 voice is insanely perfect. Reminds me of his delivery on "Take Piccolo, find Bulma, get on the ship, and GET OUT OF HERE." "Gohan, where should you be right now?" "THE SHIP"
By all accounts, Schemmel is a massive narcissist when it comes to voicing Goku. He thinks he's _the_ voice, rather than just one of _several_ dub actors. So it's pretty easy to believe actually, despite MasakoX knocking it out of the park.
@@balrog0444lmao he does realize that Masako... like the OG Masako, Masako Nozawa is the REAL Goku, on the whole "accept no substitutes" level? Right? What does he think of that? I think that's an unpopular opinion in the west/ English speaking countries tho xD.
@@Zexceedahonestly, it depends on who you ask, though the general consensus for Goku voices in terms of ranking often tends to lean towards Nozawa being the best (especially once Super forced a lot of fans to actually hear her if they didn't want to wait the time it took for official dubs to release; say what you will, but her performance as Goku Black *hard* sold him to a lot of people), with it then being Schemmel second if only counting "Official" voices and MasakoX second if counting DBZA, with third being the guy who voiced the LATAM/Mexican dub of Goku and Schemmel as third in the respective divergent lists. This said, Schemmel absolutely thinks of himself as "The only Goku that matters", to the point that if another person who has voiced the character is invited to a convention that he was also invited to, he both has and probably still will blackmail the convention into rescinding the invite for the other VA by threatening not to come instead. A bluff I'd actually like to see more conventions call tbh, just call in Sabat instead, he doesn't have a stick up selective anatomy.
I have pictured for so long that Goku would call it a Super Deeduper Saiyan and I'm glad it was delivered along with the classic lines of the original series. Masako's screams were outstanding. Amazing work.
I imagined Goku heard Vegeta say “If he’s a Super Duper Saiyan, then I’m gonna find a way to become a Super Dee Duper Saiyan” and held onto that for however long it took to achieve that form, as though to say “Here’s to you, Best Buddy.”

NOT ONLY WAS MASAKO'S DELIVERY PERFECT, THE MUSIC MIXES FAULCONER'S THEME WITH THE KAI THEME, THAT'S SO COOL
Can't copyright claim if ya mix em to make it hard to tell it apart from the original.
@@JLuisJoniHell, they even remixed a Dokkan theme for one of the Gotenks clips, so yeah they really used songs from the entire franchise.
I love Buu’s little “woohoo!” At the end. He’s having fun.
Just as he did in the actual show, which was great...until even when Vegeta was literally killing himself it wasn't fun enough...
I really like the running gag of their Ki sense being so overloaded that it starts leaking into their other senses.

I really laughed irl when trunks said "what's that smell.."

@@TSotPListened again, it definitely sounds like him but I recognize Masako’s voice. That is 100% our man.
I waited for years too see how Masako would handle the scream for ssj3.
And honestly, i wasn't disappointed

It's impact is supposed to be relevant to King Kai's comment.
@@seinfan9 I thought it was just the natural followup to krillin saying that stuff in previous episodes
Should have said Babidi sees it
I think it would've been hilarious if Kururin had been the one to smell it.
MASAKO?!?! I got chills when I heard the screams... Bravo, sir! I would find it hard to believe Sean himself wouldn't be impressed
Sean would just get triggered that someone else is voicing Goku. Sean Schemmel is a terrible person.
By all accounts, Schemmel is a massive narcissist when it comes to voicing Goku. He thinks he's _the_ voice, rather than just one of _several_ dub actors.
So it's pretty easy to believe actually, despite MasakoX knocking it out of the park.
Sean's a dickhead who can't tolerate anyone else voicing Goku.
@@balrog0444lmao he does realize that Masako... like the OG Masako, Masako Nozawa is the REAL Goku, on the whole "accept no substitutes" level? Right? What does he think of that? To me, Goku is a lot like Luffy in One Piece. His sub voice will always fit how I view his character WAY better than the dub voice.
