Di KO6BTM activated as part of the 1st Annual Queens of the Mountains YL SOTA Special Event Weekend!! On June 1-2, 2024, a team of USA-YLs activated summits across the states using 1x1 Special Event Station (SES) calls for each USA region, using the format W(number)Q. Hams around the world, OM and YL, got a thrill from chasing the Queens! The event highlighted the fabulous opportunity SOTA offers for women in radio and (hopefully) motivates more YLs to get involved with SOTA.
Location: Triunfo Lookout, W6/SC-219
Activation date: June 2, 2024
#SOTA makes every day a #fieldday

Great job! 73
How eclectically awesome!! You are AMAZING! Thank you so much for sharing your journey!!! And with a cat! And one more thanks for the CC CW translation - really nice bonus!!
Thank you for taking the time to create and share this excellent video. I'm so happy to see you enjoyed the QoM event. Sorry that I didn't get a chance to work you. I activated as W9Q on Saturday from W9/WI-010 but band conditions were poor and it was raining quite hard! Love SOTA Cat 😻, and that you built your own rig. I hope you'll participate next year, as we plan to make this an annual event. Until then, keep on activating and sharing your SOTA adventures. 73 Paula k9ir
Great video! I'm a 44 year old male, but I'm going to show this to my wife and hopefully it will inspire her to get involved in Amateur Radio and maybe do some SOTA activations with me one day.
This is reminding me to get my technician license!
I'm 60 and non-binary, and most of the views on my rocketry channel come from men over 60.
Need to get more femme, enby, and trans masc folks in both HAM and rocketry.
Great video. I was also W6Q for an hour the prior day, Saturday, 6/1/2024. On my shift there was a huge solar storm which prevented HF contacts. But thanks to our LAX locals, I got plenty of contacts working VHF/ 2 m from W6/CT-019, San Gabriel Peak. Hope to get a YL to YL contact, or even better a S2S with you next year. Carol KE6SRN.
I am male, but mid-50s. I found this channel 'cos I've been rabbit-holing ham radio videos since about October; and I also am a fan of cats; and I'm pretty sure the algorithm was like, "Cats AND Ham Radio? Mikey's gotta see this!"
The algorithm was, for once, correct!
Hey, every so often TH-cam gets it right! Welcome to the channel, and thanks for joining our cat-enabled exploration!
Great job Di! The whole team of "Queens" are proud of you. I wish condx were better that day for s2s, next time. And, I am not a 60+ male. Proud YL SOTA op! 33-ag7gp
Thanks so much for this fun video! I love your cat! And I love that you built your radio yourself! I am not very good at CW yet, so I can only chase with it, not activate ... yet! I echo your encouragement to all YLs and XYLs to get into SOTA! It's a blast! de AE1JS
Awesome location, awesome CW, great job. I've been practicing copying CW for about 2 months now, and I'm still very slow. I don't get the call signs as quickly as Di yet, but I'll keep practicing. I have a very similar radio by the way, a QMX that I just finished building. I hope to start doing POTA / SOTA with it soon. Keep up the great CW videos! 72 VA2WLM
what a fantastic video, you've put a massive effort into editing that, really nice work! this is the first of your videos I've stumbled across. i look forward to watching some more. :)
Thanks for joining, and appreciating our editing time. It's definitely a project to put these together, but also a fun way to spend time together as a family. Creativity can happy on the air, or after :)
Am I seeing correctly that the structure there has an antenna built into it?
The summit structure has a pipe sticking out of the top. Mark climbed on top and masted our SOTAbeams Carbon6 on that pipe to get a bit of extra elevation. The resulting inverted V EFHW antenna’ed like a champ!
