I am so weirdly fascinated that I could guess the country of origin after like 20 seconds.
Pakistan has dope music. This reminds me so much of Fela Kuti, without the horns. Music is a universal language.

Fela Kuti with some Al Jarreau scatting.

There is no English equivalent to the word Must, the closest translation would mean intoxicated or high (usually in a spiritual sense)

He is an absolute legend. Not arabic bt pakistanj. Live performances of him are always better than his recordings with a lot of improvisation and stuff. He is basically a qawalli/ sufi singer which is Muslim devotional music. Bt there are songs abt love frndshio etc.
Pls react to the sason ki mala metal mix of his. Which is done by an Argentinian metal artist just a month ago. Which u will definitely find impressive.
Live recommendations akhiyan udeek diyan, and of this very song mast qalander itself.

I don't known if you actually read the comments (I have a vague recollection of you saying you didn't always - apologies if I remembered that incorrectly) but I'm sure it's been pointed out before that he's not singing in Arabic. He was Pakistani, and this song is in Urdu, which is the lingua franca in that country. He also sang in Punjabi.

I do read comments, always. Thank you for the info.

Urdu poetry is renowned for its beauty in sound and content. The language has a beautiful flow and expressive vocabulary. In contrast, Punjabi tends to be quite harsh sounding, but nusrat Fateh Ali khan was able to manipulate those harsh times into beautiful and spiritual songs.

Never heard of the artist, but it sounds good. Is he a rapper or he is just using the art form to communicate a particular point of view? It is like a chant set to music. I like it though.

He definitely wasn't a rapper! He was one of the greatest Qawwali singers, a Muslim devotional form of music. His concerts were, by all accounts, like religious events, and could go on for many hours. When he let rip, which you can hear a little in this song, his voice was quite a force of nature.

@@TheoZoffrok I didn't know what is was called, but I have heard the call to prayers from various sources. Does he add the music? Was it his idea? I am just curious to know.

It is devotional music, sort of akin to gospel music for Christians. It's not part of the religion but a way to express devotion to the almighty over and above the proscribed prayers.

@@TheoZoffrok yes, I saw him live in Seattle in the late 90s. The music and his singing were very powerful, beautiful, and put me, and it seemed , most of the audience, in a positive and joyful mood , even though we didn’t understand the words.
I think the lyrics’ meaning can be felt through his voice. At least that night, live, it could!
The music also really makes you want to move or dance, but it was not a venue that allowed for that.
Thanks for your insight! Also, apologies if I’ve already replied before about the show I went to!
