Great chord progression, it emphasizes the melody, and it enriches it, just amazing. And with those powerful voices the final result is incredible. @@o00user00o With all due respect to you and the bands you mentioned, I've listened to all of them, there's no denying of their technical prowess but in terms of musical innovation metal has been repeating itself for many years already, and I find it hard to get excited about new releases. This guy has mixed metal (which is barely 50 years old) With Qawwali music which extends back to the 13th century so that's what I meant by badass in terms of pushing boundaries and experimenting which I find to be more interesting and exciting as a result. A band like Black Sabbath for example is beyond badass when you view them in their historical context, I'm talking about hearing heavy metal for the first time in the late 60s can you imagine how cool was that!

Now, through Andre's work. I came to realise while looking back to modern choir singers, these Pakistani singers are actually a FULL BAND of their own. I have yet to wait and see if I'll be hearing a choir that has a MODERN FULL BAND concept (NOT MODERN INSTRUMENTS but ONLY VOICES that do riffs). I'm not a Pakistani but... these singers are REAL LEGENDS.
NFAK is a prominent feature of Pakistani households with any bit of musical taste. It was in my teens that I discovered metal, years after I'd listened to traditional Qawwali. I always thought there were parallels between these two types of music from opposite ends of the world. Both have the same crazy, spirited, adventurous zeal of reaching into the beyond and pulling out and bringing back something otherworldly.
That man and his music has gone beyond borders. One of the most unique voices to have graced this Earth. Instantly recognisable style. You can hear a touch of the same voice and style in RFAK as well, a young version of whom I believe I can see in this video.
@@MMK86 This is not a song. Qawwali music is basically about praising God, Prophet Mohammed, Ali (cousin and son in law of prophet Mohammed) and sufi saints. In this Qawwali they are praising Ali and famous Sufi Saint from Sindh, called, Laal Shehbaz Qalandar.
I don't know if it's the years of listening and playing Dream Theater, Opeth, Orphaned land etc or my Moroccan origins, but the arrangement of this song just hits the bullseye of my music heart. What a masterpiece !!!! Andre you are a hidden Gem 💎 !!!!! 🤘🏻
This music is also very popular in Afghanistan and my father has tons of CDs and Cassettes from him and other qawwali artists, Like Nashenas or the Sabri Brothers, but Ustad Fateh Ali Khan was always his favourite. I must admit that to me this genre of music kind of always lacked a bit of "fire" or "spice" and as such I really love your interpretations here, as they add exactly what I was missing, allowing me to get all nostalgic in a new, "metalled-up" way. 😊
It will hard to translate this to exactly what it means but it is sort of a religious ritual chant if you can imagine it like. Mast qalandar means a saint of the highest order (qalandar) and he is in sort of mystic trance (mast). The qalandar is praising his masters the one above him in the saintly order.

That's the beauty of metal and of music in general! Metal can play with most any other type of music and it will work somehow, right? Proof that music is the universal language after all, IMO.
He said, "Drifter, can ya make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues? Can you bend them guitar strings?" He said, "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside? Contemplating 'Mustt Mustt' made me think of these David Allen Cole lyrics. They were so hardworking.... U could search all of their songs are no less than 20 mins.... And they are no less high pitch than this...... And they would record this all in only a concert.... Which would be live for hours just imagine
Sabri brothers are also phenomenal, and their son was recently assassinated in Pakistan by fundamentalists. Nusrats nephew Rahat is still alive though and is singing in various parts of this song. If you've never been to a qawalli, you would love it

For anyone wondering... The lyrics refer to not the mating of elephants, rather a trance like state of being "musth" which means entranced in love. So Ali is a revered figure in shia and sunni Islam. This song is dedicated to the love of Ali and how one can e entranced by it. "Must qalandar" is a phrase referring to a Sufi practitioner lost in love.

I'd love to hear a metal version of "Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai"!
The question becomes, as to which version of the song? Even the live concert's rendition of this song in particular, range from 20 minutes to more than an hour long.
This song was constantly playing while I was growing up as a kid in Canada. This is the version that was in my head, even though everyone else was hearing the original. And the original is absolutely amazing, but this is so so good. Clearly, other people heard this version in their head too.
So, I watched a couple of these Pakistani songs on your channel, and I must say it's impossible for me to imagine these guys singing without your guitars alongside them, as if that's the original version. You've done tremendous job on them.
Hello André Antunes i'm from Pakistan, and i think you just unlocked a new genre of this cultural mix, even though in pakistan we had/have many metal bands but none of them came close to this level of remixes, really appreciate you work man, also there is NFAK qawwali Gorakh Dhanda Ho which was done again in Nescafe Basement and in Last they did the similar type of rendition you did. also rolling stone recently gave a list of 200 Greatest Signers ever of all time in which they put NFAK at 91 but for me he's the greatest ever who doesn't even need a list. i hope continue to do these renditions.

After looping this song for couple of hours, I can definitely say that Andre has added additional value to this song. Great chord progression, it emphasizes the melody, and it enriches it, just amazing. And with those powerful voices the final result is incredible. He has also been careful not to make the song ridiculous, but rather to preserve the original feeling, and in the same time give it modern rock/metal twist. Respect

I don’t know how much Andre spends on gear, but his tone is always amazing
In one of his early videos , he has a DV Mark MultiAmp to play guitar through
For real, quality sound every time
Tone this good isn't overly expensive. Just about any guitarist should be able to afford it. It's the practice with the equipment to really dial in that master tone.
@@FlawlessRhythmGG expensive is relevant depending on who you ask, but yes, knowing what you’re doing and a lot of trial and error to really dial it in is what makes it sound good.

I don't know the language but I can tell he's singing from his soul, from his heart.......what is the song about?
@@MMK86
This is not a song. Qawwali music is basically about praising God, Prophet Mohammed, Ali (cousin and son in law of prophet Mohammed) and sufi saints.

It will hard to translate this to exactly what it means but it is sort of a religious ritual chant if you can imagine it like. Mast qalandar means a saint of the highest order (qalandar) and he is in sort of mystic trance (mast). The qalandar is praising his masters the one above him in the saintly order.

This song is about the season of must when mating season occurs in elephant populations. The male elephants get agitated, rocking back and forth.

I think it is a muslim religious song, so the breeding rituals of elephants is probably not what is being talked about.
Sami Yusuf also made his own interpretation of the song.

The elephant season of must, is a metaphor. One must think allegorically to grasp the true meaning.
I shant try to paint the whole picture for anyone. Suffice it to say,the males rock back and forth side to side, tears streaming from their eyes, longing for their beloved. Intensely. The separation is pain and longing. One must look beyond the mere temporal mundane interpretations.
If one does not grok metaphor, a thousand words cannot explain it.
@@sophiaseeker9335 hahaha!
