Devon, we found your station a few weeks ago. Binged it all. Awesome. Our vision quest was to build a small mountain house. Just closed on Virginia land. Your house, Cedar Hollow is exactly what we want to build. Are the plans available for download? Love it. Can't wait for next episode
@@tocco611 I'm working on getting an engineered set of plans in the next 1-2 months! Looking to sell them for like $500-$1000 which will be a total steal for what you get.
We are totally in. Let me know when they available!@devonloerop
Any update on the plans? Very interested!
I’d reconsider that cargo net, first time someone’s foot and leg falls through it will be the first (i presume) time you will be sued and then rip it out and redo the deck.
not a bad point, I'll have the winter to think it over at least! :)
@@devonloerop might be worthwhile to check how airbnb would react to any issues with it given that this will be at least your second rental, would really suck if they banned you from the platform because of not knowing what else is going on.
btw, does airbnb provide you with liability insurance?
Ya I'd just buy two big hammocks.
Agree, made us not do it
@@devonloerop😊
You should use spray foam or mineral wool insulation around doors and windows. If not using thermal breaks around windows and doors. This stops the condensation from cold windows and doors into the wall. It's "best practice". Nice build. Those studs on front wall by door look cold. You can add extra insulation on outside and bend metal for faux column or beam to insulate it. Well worth cost over time. Or even get a post cut in half will help stop the thermal radiations from the mass of studs.
Could you possibly do a cost breakdown for this build like you did with your storage container build? TIA
This is beautiful. congratulations 🎊 thanks for sharing. I can't wait to build.
Everything looks amazing! I'm so proud of the work you've been doing. I hope the Airbnb is a success!
Always look forward to these videos. Project is looking great!
Thanks!
I’m guessing the surprise is a sauna. It came to me when you were talking about all the amps you needed that made you decide on a 200 amp service panel. Exterior looks so cool, I want it ! 😊
Looks so cozy! Fantastic job! You help us visualize dreams coming true. ✨️
Sweetie you ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
Thanks so much!
Love the updates Devon! Looks awesome. Nice running into you at the flooring store, lol.
Good to see you again Paul! Hopefully you can end up convincing your wife to get the Sauna. Redwood Outdoors is the name of the company and code PACIFICBIN250 saves you $250 on any sauna!
Meet you at lowes today. Didn't realize i am meeting a celebrity in the making.
Good effort.
Devon, man you got me all excited about the build and I have started my own. You haven’t posted in a while. Man I’m waiting for a update. Thanks
Working on the next video edit on the plane ride back to chicago in a couple of days. Looking like I'll have a christmas present ready for yall
I loved seeing how you got the windows into place with the two mounted ratchet straps. I'm actually building my own house 100% DIY right now as well so I about the challenge of "how to get heavy thing in place as only one guy". I'll be stealing that idea for sure
I love this! This is such a lovely tiny house. I look forward to future updates on this one.
Can't wait to see it finished out! Best of luck to you, I have been wanting to build something similar myself.
You have a beautiful home. The deck surround is incredible, gorgeous extra living space- this is one of my favorite designs. I have hardy board on my suburban 21 year old home and it’s an amazing product. We’ve never had to do a thing other than brush away occasional cobwebs in the eaves. The color is dead-on to the day we bought it. We live in north Texas where we literally bake in 100+ days for weeks at a time. The way you’ve installed it looks timeless. ❤️
I don’t know how cold your winters get, but your plumbing may need heat tape in addition to the insulated board skirting.
Love everything you're doing here. At the end, I would love a breakdown of your total costs, are you planning on that? I'm in rural New Hampshire and planning on building something similar, about same square footage, single slope roof, but post and beam instead of traditional stick built. Great job, looking forward to the finished product.
Hey hey! Yes I will absolutely be doing a whole breakdown video on costs. I don't know if you saw my Pacific Bin cost breakdown video but it will be similar to that, except better. :)
Was binging your channel and get gut punched everytime you skip from a very detailed beginning phase video to "Hey, I'm done, sorry". haha.
I'm sorry, haha it's just hard to fully document when working a full time job. If I launched a patreon and had an enough people following along to make up that lost income I could get even more into the weeds. But in the meantime I'm gonna do the best I can
Your diy little house is very beautiful and impressive I really like this design.
New subscriber and you are doing an amazing job. I finished a box truck tiny house 2 years ago and am now ready for a real house. I see you are selling plans for your shipping container house, will you be offering plans for this one? A shed roof and lots of windows are exactly what I'm looking for. Awesome job...now back to watching more of your videos!
In the planning stages of a similar project in Colorado. I have done plumbing jobs before and have no issue doing it myself. How do you handle the permitting without being a licensed plumber? Is it an option to do the work and simply have a plumber inspect it & sign off on it?
Impressive stuff man, all that plumbing is no joke
Yeah! It was not fun spending a few days in crawlspace
Looking good. I'm enjoying this build series 👍
Glad you're enjoying it!
Yeah, Devon! Pretty good water pressure there.
I just binge watched your journey through this project. Very good job, my dude.
I just came back from Alaska and stayed in a camp that was very similar to your project here. I plan doing something similar here in Maine as well.
Thank you for sharing.
Awesome! Thanks for watching through it all :)
All that Cedar decking is going to ROT in 15yrs .. save a TON of money, use pressure treated wood and stain it. Learned this the hard way after having to rebuild the cedar deck I built.
15 years is pretty good if I can make $65k/year on this $3k deck. I'll just spend another $3k and have it last 15 more years.
Nice. Love what you did. We try to make a step down from house to deck. Because snow and water. I would of tied both sets of piers together.
I love the colour you painted it ❤
"Tricorn black" flat finish is bomb!
@@devonloerop it really is, for a normal house amongst others I wouldn’t paint it dark like this but honestly this looks really well, the lighting adds to the cosines of it all. I’m looking forward to seeing more about this house as time the good the bad I wana know all the pros and cons on living there and how the house withstands all weathers. I’ve been wanting either a tiny home or van life for quite some time. So. It’s good to hear about the struggles too
That is extremely impressive. Wow.
thanks a ton!
Awesome job man! You have any details to show on how you insulated and framed out the floors? Cheers!
Looks Great Devon! cant wait to see it all finished
It's almost there!
Is all of this properly zoned and up to code? Thats probably covered in other videos but this one didn’t mention anything.
love the cedar and lights in the soffit. i'd like to do the same thing. how did you handle venting? i don't see any vents. thanks!
Looking good, bro!
Timestamp 11:45..........why you keep your ballz in different pockets, and not both in one pocket or the other? Just curious 😂 I'm a low ball sufferer too. Comfortable is a life long journey for us. 😮
Turned out amazing but the prices out in the great left coast are exstremly high....... Here in the midwest [ Nebraska] could of built that and the land for under 200k
I'm proud of you Doc 💯%💪🏿GREAT JOB 🍾
i love that you were talking about 60psi on the pex and how nervous you were of leaks... then you proceed to spray your significant other lol
Hahahahaha great point 😬😬😬
Would you be willing to share your architectural plans or floor plan, love the layout and footprint
Are these houses on the same property? How big is the property? Can you do a separate video on the permitting. These videos are great.
It appears that your king studs were well built to support the wall and all of the glass framing such as window and doors, however I didn’t see any jack studs to support the various headers. Are you concerned about that or am I missing something? Hard to tell how you framed out that part from a video.
Hey! I acutally did forget jack studs but I'm not too worried because not only does the sheathing hold it in place but the double studs on each side easily hold it. Plus all of the loading is correctly placed since the header and king carries it down to floor
The seam between the boards on the sides of the house look kinda wonky to me due it waving in and out. I would consider some kind accent to cover it up and make it pop a bot more, like a strip of cedar.
Nice...When will you have these plans available for sale?
Did I miss where you said how much the top decking cost? The length and grade of the board is a pretty big factor.
Looks awesome! I can’t wait to see the final product!
For such a young guy you've got a lot confidence undertaking a project like this. Where does that come from? I'm strongly thinking about buying up some empty land myself to one day put up a prefab of my own. But am scared to death about all the things needed in order to prep land, not to mention all the costs that goes into everything.
you should go for it! It's really not too bad, just break it down step by step and just know it will all work out in the end. bite size pieces.
WHat the fuck this looks badass!
I love seeing how all the comments shifted since your first video of this series. lol
People always hate but never see your full vision until it's done
Came together very nicely, looks sharp! Have you mentioned the square footage on this build? Looks to be in the neighbourhood of 600.
400sf
Your voice reminds me of Tummy from Gummi Bears. Great job on the build so far!
Absolutely love this! Can't wait to see the finished product. Curious if this was your plan or if you found it somewhere? My wife and I would like to do something like this for our 20 year old son on some of our land. We're in SE NC and the prices for younger folks to purchase a house are unreal. This would be a great place for him to spend a few years and save up. Thanks and great job on the house.
Keep an eye out for my price breakdown video I'll be selling a set of plans when I release that video once the build is done. I'm thinking right around $1k for plan prices. Which is an absolute steal since getting full plan set is wildly more expensive if you engineer yourself.
Yes please!
Wow , a lot has changed since Jordan and I toured it last year ! Amazing progress on this Devon ! Keep it up! 🫡🫡🫡🎉
Appreciate it bro! Def changed a ton, you'll have to come back and check it out!!
DONT DO THE CARGO NET
It will never get used and will just be a liability.
Just get an amazing outdoor furniture instead.
Make an amazing floating day bed suspended by poly fiber rope or chains
Calling it - Sauna is the mystery electrical. Just hope it’s a Huum, and that it’s accompanied with a cold soak 😏
Cold soak would be sweet
Great job man, this was interesting to watch
May I ask what were the contraptions you were using the lift the slider glass doors all by yourself? I’ve never seen them before. Just pulleys?
Loved the video, just came by your channel.
Great progress! Man you’re moving fast!
9 weeks ago we started!
@@devonloerop impressive! I started mine 2.5 years ago 😂
you could have avoided the body wrecking work of diggin that trench back up to change from 1 1/2" to 2" conduit and just switched from aluminum wire to copper.
Looking great, Devon.
Thanks so much! We're getting close
Nice progress Devon! Big changes from the last video😮
Yeah! We just started drywalling
I can't wait to build my own airbnb on the east cost
do it!
Absolutely gorgeous! What are the dimensions?
Where did you get the plan for the tiny house? ☺️
All in my head!
This is a masterpiece. I want to do this! ✌🏻
Beautiful!!! So handsome!!
Hi, i am planning a 30 by 50 lean to and dont know the size of yours but you used 12 piers. How far are they apart or how many would i need. I know the max is 10’ apart but what would you recommend?
piers are 7' apart. Spacing depends on the loading over top.
you do a load calculation for the hot tub portion of the deck? might want to look at that...
I did, I have 6 braced posts underneath with 2 beams. So it's way more than enough. :)
Thanks man let us know the cost once it is all done!
The rain will destroy that press board
Love it. Was wondering what you were up to
Yup! Definitely didn't stop grinding
Looking great dude!
Thanks a ton!
Nice work!
Looks amazing!
This is beautiful work!!!
Is the fascia done in Hardie board as well? And what colour/brand of paint did you use for that black? Thanks!
Fascia is just Tongue and groove really cedar. I used sherwin Williams flat Tricorn black, it looks so good!!
The times I have hand dug a trench with a spaid, I can't sit up to get out of bed the next day.
Great job!
Did you use HardiePanels or Hardie backer boards?
Did you consider going tankless on your water heater ? Great build
thought about it but the energy draw is insane from insta hots
Awesome progress!
Thank you! Cheers!
how much sq ft is your home? Good job by the way!
Good job man!
Thanks!
That water spray definitely got you in the dog house for a night 😂
@Devon - I have watched 3 of the 5 videos so far, and still have this overwhelming question in my head. ?? How is this entire thing sitting on the threads (since the bottom of the bolt doesn't sit on the concrete if the nut is turned to raise the support at all) of 12 bolts? Is there some specification somewhere that says the weight of this cabin can sit on 12 vertical bolt threads? I've never built anything at this scale, but man, I'd love to know what told you that this was going to work out okay. Great job btw!
Grade 2 steel 3/4" bolts can hold 14k lbs and my home weighs 20k lbs total (conservative estimate after adding all lumber and everything). 20klbs / 12 bolts = 1600lbs per bolt. Even if the roof is loaded to our snow load max for where the home is built that 25lbs/sf of roof (additional 16k lbs) the total weight at an absolute max would be 36k lbs / which would be 3000lbs per bolt when split between the 12, which means the bolts have a safety factor of 4.66. Just the math I ran through, could be wildly wrong but I was just in the crawlspace wrapping up insulation and inspected all bolts and piers/ braces and it all looked perfect. Plus I even torqued up the deck anchors to reduce even more load from 12 under the home to the max load is actually less than I mentioned.
@@devonloeropTotally appreciate the response. Maybe you can understand my perspective. Vertical installed bolts hold components by the threads, not by the bolts, unless the bolt is sitting on the supportive surface at the bottom. In your case, if you adjust your height, the bottom of the bolt lifts up inside the concrete sonitube and so it no longer sits on the concrete, and instead, the threads are holding the vertical pressure within the concrete. My concern was that you lost your vertical strength when you adjusted your bolts to lift up and not be touching the concrete on the bottom of the bolt. I may be completely wrong, and it sounds like you did your due diligence, I was just concerned that the 14k rating gets lowered when the bolt is no longer standing on the concrete to xfer the pressure down thru the bolt on to the concrete. Tks again for the response! Love the cabin!
looks great! what originally was your targeted when you started "1st day to rent" day and where is it now?
I was aiming for January, which was wildly aggressive for starting in august.
@@devonloerop doing great though! i take it you were wanting in on that sweet sweet ski season money
@@Keasbeysknight I mean I even just want to have it done so I can have my weekends back haha
Is this a 16x28 with 12 foot to 8 foot walls?
Can show a brief view …why a suitable Air BB aside from the forest….!
Use Hardies color match instead next time shi lasts way longer than paint
I see you have house plans for your last build - timeline for this build??
Started 9 weeks ago. Probs gonna finish in 6
wait. you can do your DWV plumbing but you can't do you electrical? electrical is at least 1 or 2 points easier then DWV plumbing.
Respect you have talent for this type of work. How good are your Airbnbs doing so far? :D
The bin is doing really well! I'm making a video explaining how it's doing.
Where can you fit a couch in there?
Let me know if you have any questions! I'll be hanging around the comments. :)
Hang around elsewhere. Jk cool video ❤️
love your energy!
I get so pumped when filming these videos for you guys
Your pluming under you home, I would suggest heat tape for those really cold days.
I’m planning a build that looks exactly like this but it’s 35x65
Ohhhh that will be so nice!
How exited is Devon? 12:29
Hahaha em, was not happy 😅
Will you do a cost breakdown?
Working on the final #'s right now.
Awesome
