Absolutely gorgeous model, that locomotive is one of my favorite US prototypes of all time, and MTH did a very good job rendering it.
The coach livery is questionable, however, I always assumed they were either black, or the same umber red as the cab. I could be wrong, though, they still looking excellent.

It's pretty shocking and shameful. I'm getting back into the hobby and building an HO collection, and I can't believe the lack of selection of 19th century 4-4-0 and 2-6-0 locomotives. The European brands do slightly better, but I want some American Civil War era and earlier locomotives, dammit! Maybe we should start writing some of these companies? How else will they know about the demand?

They have more in common than they don't. Both PRR, both steam, both non articulated, both use 2 sets of 4 drive wheels, both were rigid frames, they were built within a few years from each other, both pulled the PRR's flagship trains, and both suffered from wheelslip problems. . .of course they're not identical, but they sound pretty similar to me. If I were looking for a PRR T1 review and could only find an S1 review, I would be happy with it, and vice versa. Yes, they had slightly different wheel arrangements and the S1 had no poppet valves, but I doubt a model of the S1 and T1 would have many differences.

    • @tomclark2169

Well, since it was in my family I happen to have the facts and as they stand right now, the Engine did climb to over 110mph based on time traveled and distance which was verified by several officials at the time. I'm sure some are jealous, some are wanting "their" engine to be the 1st but in fact the 999 did break that barrier. It had several runs, not just the one timed run and although there were several under the 100 barrier, the one in question was indeed well over 100, as I said 110+. It's like saying "What do you mean they landed on the moon?". Hard to believe, right?
