I've owned one of these for a few years and can say they are so much fun to drive! Mine has some mods such as a FMIC + BOV and is tested at 160kw which is pretty impressive at just 1130kg weight. Other cars often try to race me and often get a nasty surprise LOL
@@87doctorevili think he lied a bit about 160kw but 150kw is in range for sure, it needs bigger intercooler, cold intake, remap, and exhaust would help too
Another great video, Liam! I have seen these cars about and have always wondered what they were like, so thanks for the review. I've been watching your channel since I stumbled across your video on the CD5 accord, as I own one too (and love it to pieces). Kudos to you for the consistent uploads on the channel, especially recently - must take a lot of work. Your presentation style is very Clarkson-esque. Love the deadpan humor and interesting takes on the range of cars you've featured. Big support from Palmy North mate, keep it up!
I recently bought a 1.5 CZT (standards @ 150hp), which the previous owner lowered, upgraded the suspension and chipped engine to 170 hp (ish??, there's no paperwork) but it is brilliant, and I recognize a lot of characteristics from the video. Delightful little pocket-rocket.
I took a test drive in the European version of this car, the Colt CZT which was 3 door only. I have to say I was very impressed, with only 148 bhp but weighing in at about a tonne it was very rapid. There's a tuning company that is running one in a championship & it's got 450 bhp from that tiny 1.5, needless to say it's winning a lot.
I was looking at one of these many moons ago as a bit of a run around beater as they were pretty cheap. Ended up going with an 1999 nz new manual N15 Pulsar hatch which I drove 200,000kms over a few years of ownership relatively trouble free. When I lived in Featherston for a while there was a neighbour who used to daily drive one over the rimutaka hill, seemed to be a reliable and fun little car. Good vid mate!
Yeah these have extra work done to stiffen the chassis up. I believe they might have been seam welded too. Pretty good value compared to the other hatches. Suppose its closest competitor is the Swift Sport which is a bit of a basic (boring) choice imo Feel like these might be properly fast in the hills but I never run into owners who push them that hard.
Wow this car is surely underrated. I saw this car in Best Motoring match and it was just destroying other rivals (Tuned Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift Sports etc).
I remember when drivingy 1.5 kia rio manual trying to catch up the mini colt in front of me but unfortunately i dint get even closer when he notice me trying to overtake his car. Then i started looking for colt here in Australia and buy one cuz its fucking fast even do its not too preatty...😅
You can get a hybrid turbo from ebay for these colts or the euro versios and run these about 260 hp on a stock engine or a td05 turbo from an evo and run 300+ bhp on a stock engine too.
Good review I have a colt Ralliart 3 door not many left in the uk, just turned 60k miles, every drive is fun folk keep telling me to park it up in a shed, if you look after them with services etc nothing goes wrong with them.
I was thinking of getting a 2012 manual swift sport and putting a catback, k&n and stage 1 tune but after watching this, I think a stock manual colt ralliart might be funner for around the same price lol
Just got normal 1.5 Colt for daily beater and i'm impressed of the car.Its funny how the normal colt has better quality interior as it has soft dashboard and door panels my guess would be they traded quality in the ralliart for the performance.I wish I had the ralliart but its nowhere to be found where I live.
Correct, I own what is to be considered the “holy grail” amongst owners… A Red 06 RColt with the Evo 8MR Recaros and have the Enkei’s as displayed in the video. With nothing more than a front mount intercooler (XR6 turbo falcon ones fit easily) an exhaust, some injectors, a fuel pump and a tune they can quite easily have 140kw at the fronts, even more on e85. Lowered mine on aftermarket springs and soon to add a rear stabiliser bar but my gosh it handles sooooo well 🥺 Almost (and I mean almost) is my favourite car I own. That honour probably goes to the Ralliart Magna I have (132 of 500 made)
I have a Colt and the E.P.S such and I have to change whole Steering wheel box, there is someone who knows where and how can I find the electrical motor mounted on this steering box?
A Japanese video on TH-cam (that includes Drift King Tsuchiya) shows the Vitz vs a Colt and some other cars in the same class like the Fit. The Colt blew everyone out of the water
I had a look at his car and it seems his issue stems from the gear lever selector inside the top of the box. Apparently mini cooper R50/R52 selectors fit the colt gearbox and can fix this issue
I've heard no horror stories, which tells me it isn't bad. Simple preventative maintenance and it should be sound. Swift probably more reliable yes, but not half as fun.
Used to own one, currently got a Zc32 Swift sport. The Colt is super reliable . Parts are actually quite expensive compared to other cars in its Class and the aftermarket support isn't great In NZ . Both my outer CVS went had to buy complete driveshafts, clutch isn't cheap has a fork attached, timing belt kits ain't cheap for them. Few other things. Other then that there a great car kinda like a Starlet turbo but with a more rigid chassis. Swift Sports are bloody great cars to but guess it depends on what model, because the older ones that are non turbo feel abit gutless and have no low down torque. But are super reliable and I reckon handles better than the Colt to.
@@KiwiCarLife yeah no doubt. I've driven plenty of sports, great little cars but have no experience with the mitsi. I'm currently living in Japan, and there isn't much opportunity for driving fast in my area. Mostly looking for sporty handling and compact size.
@@jimes69 thanks for the info. I used to work for Suzuki as a parts rep so I can attest to sport reliability (minus the CVT versions) and a drivability. But the Colt is definitely one I wanna test drive for myself

Pretty sure they weigh less than 1.1 tonne. More of 1060kg
@ I had it dynoed at exactly160kw at the crank. I have the papers. Walbro fuel pump, FMIC, BOV

All good
Swap out the exhaust, get a remap and a downpipe and youre easily looking at a 200hp, 1.1 tonne sleeper bully.

How about getting a BMW E90 325i/330i against your accord? They are the old school BMW 6cyl 220hp/250hp

Reason it has shifter slop is because the shifter bushing is shot. Whoever the owner is hit me up on Colt Ralliart NZ and I’ll hook you up 👌
Ah yes will pass that on
I need that bushing
