- I had the opportunity and the distinct pleasure to have a talk with Tuomas Pirinen, creator of Mordheim, WHFB 6th Edition and now, developer on TRENCH CRUSADE.
Join us as I quiz him on the old days, his current works and the future! And yes I DO ask about that question that has been flying round the hobby at the moment. IS Trench Crusade woke?

Greatly appreciate this interview. Tuomas' work has brought so much joy to so many of us in this hobby. The guy is a living legend.

Yea I don’t know. I can’t imagine that this is their only gig, and having mods for a discord is not on the top of their agenda.
That being said, after seeing the bullshittery from 28 they should have distanced themselves.
I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Still excited for the game.
Hoping for the best. Time will tell but i have faith.

I'm really interested in this game. Being an old man now, I really appreciate a game and setting being made for a mature audience. Can go all in on much darker themes and stories. Pulling zero punches.

Other people are doing better content than our ramblings tbh but let's just say that we will certainly be revisiting Trench Crusade at least a few times before the KS launches ;)

I'm really exited for the game, however I hope that they will stay true to their world and wont defile it with modern politic, especialy with culture war runing in the internet

Not too surprising, Critical pedagogy started being introduced in the late 80s in the school system. As such it has now Metastasized to higher learning.
Activism and ideological purity is a core belief of that system.
The Praxis is thoroughly embedded now even in kindergarten... even if the ideological theory as such is not being taught at that level.
Ultimately it's Marxism applied to the means of production of culture, tapping into a different axis of inequality ( Race, Gender, Sex, Identity, ability,fitness, normality etc ).
By definition these people are rabidly paranoid about hierarchies and power imbalances....and their MO is structuring themselves as being the only people wise and knowledgable enough to wield such power.
I.e. they like grabbing power.

This drunk stream was good.
His take on what happened at 28 mag is a gross misrepresentation of what happened. the 28 mag discord was not a welcoming place if you weren't hard left.
All i can say is the new one looks much better. At the moment. I did hear things about the 28 server being ultra left but never was there. I have no idea what Tuomas' sources are or how accurate but at least it's over now and we can hopefully judge things going forward. I'm still very excited for the game.
@@GrumpyGrognardGamingme personally, the new discord was very hostile. I didn't bring up any political beliefs but I could tell they had their opinions that they were tolerant of.
The main thing is that they are very hostile to any mention of 40k as an inspiration in any way of this game. They claim that the game has no aesthetic connection to 40k at all.
Nice to see the old guard are keeping Grim Dark alive with Trench Crusade when GW seems to be trying to abandon it in all Warhammer games fantasy and 40K.
I wonder what Tuomas thinks of GW's new Kislev, whether he feels they did a good job or if they butchered his baby...
I didn't want to hit GW too heavily, i'm not sure what he would say. Interviews with other designers and stuff they have always been VERY diplomatic and i imagine Tuomas would have been the same.

Yep, I will be keeping an eye on it but rogue mods on mag28 aside i honestly don't see any issues. Though i VERY rarely visit the discord (once since this interview lol)

Was that the old discord? I never saw that, i don't know what Tuomas' source is on the numbers banned. The new one looks fine. Though i only check in from time to time.

@GrumpyGrognardGaming There was an old discord created by a group called 28. The people running it had close ties with the creators of TC but outside of that was unaffiliated. That said the mods of said discord started banning people for what they describe as "opposing view points". Not to say there weren't genuine douches in there, but the mods got trigger happy and started banning people asking was going on. Got so bad the discord got nuked.

hmm... we will see. So far I have expectations that trench crusade will be unapologetically woke. which is the sure fire way to destroy your game before its out. I need to hear about how they don't like the 28 magizine's brutal and devilish bans

The way i see it there are bad faith actors on BOTH sides and they need to put down their weapons Christmas Truce style while in the discord. I have seen people celebrating that Right wing leaning people will not be allowed in and that is A: not right, and B: not correct. It is up to the moderators to act the the rules of the discord and not their own personal biases. As of yet, i have not seen anything that shows they arent.
Tuomas was never going to throw 28 under the bus, they were guests and TC is going to have to be diplomatic if they are going to succeed. I prefer the APOLITICAL approach that has been taken. Celebrate our love for the setting which is our commonality rather than our differences.
Put a line under the 28 stuff and move forward, forward unto Glorious Battle in a new grimdark world!

People have been blanket banned en masse from the Discord so you’re both talking complete BS at the end.
The old discord or the new? I never saw the old one but the new one seems fine.
@GGG Yep. They allow pronoun talk, but so does your Discord user account by default. As Tuomas said, if that bugs you they have self identified for you to block/ignore.
The official discord is running fine.
