- With a weeks worth of preparations and 2 days spent searching the jungle, we were able to rescue Kabu the elephant. It was a 24 hour round trip to bring Kabu from Tak province in West Thailand to Elephant Nature Park, Chiang Mai. Now Kabu has a fresh start where she will no longer be abused. We and volunteers are very proud of this rescued elephant and honored to provide her with a new life.

Her story is heartbreaking. I cant comprehend how disgusting some humans are in this world. Forcing her to work with a broken leg, chains, riding her...I have no words. Thank u all for what u do. Thanks for finding her and taking her away from that life.

Bless you for helping the beautiful elephant. I'll never understand why some people don't want to admit this planet does not belong to just humans. We have a responsibility to assist our neighbors the elephants, they should always be treated with respect and dignity. God Bless the elephant beautiful creatures man should learn from.
It makes me feel more proud of you when you told those heartless bastards to get OFF her back, like as if she needs more pain, poor girl. Thank you for everything you people do for the elephants. We humans have knowledge and compassion and so we should use it to help other humans and animals. We're not supposed to destroy life.

We are so ignorant to think animals dont have feeling like we do. Those that mistreat them mistreat humans also. Glad for ppl who have BIG HEARTS for the animals of the world.
I'm so glad these people are helping these majestic, wonderful creatures. Elephants are amazing animals and should never be treated they way they so often are. They are so smart and love their fellow elephants. People should understand that they are much more than "dump animals". They should be loved and cared for by those around them.
What the hell is wrong with these owners/mahouts...riding her with broken leg, chain around her foot and neck... it makes me furious and sad how owners/mahouts of elephants in Asia mistreat these venerable gentle giants. However, thank you Lek for immediately appoint him to get off her; he wasn't allowed to ride her anymore - thank you so much for rescuing her and all the others from suffering anymore. I'm so thankful for ENP and what you are doing for the world's largest land mammal. Well done!

The part where the woman's voice said to know where your money is going and what your values are supporting is monumental. Because it's so true, I and many people are going vegan to quit supporting animal cruelty for factory farming, and also searching for foundations to support who uphold values of compassion towards animals instead. Thank GOD that she got help and they took her away from that horrible place. I wanted to cry when I saw her leg and could have strangled the owner for his mistreatment of her. May the rest of her days never ever know unkindness again.

It happened when she was a toddler, is healed, it just healed wrongly. It looks horrible, but these days, she can keep up with baby Chana, and her life is filled with such joy and love in her now-peaceful life of mother-daughter love with baby Chana. Kabu isn't crying over her past, she's now about 30 years old, and she's rejoicing in her new life with Chana, free of suffering. We should rejoice with her! All that weight coming down on that broken bone with each step. And the fact that she hasn't let it stop her from surviving is a testament to her strength.
It broke when she was tiny, so it healed long, long ago, albeit the abusers didn't set the bone, so it healed incorrectly. Nonetheless, it did heal completely, and since then, it hasn't caused her pain. She has improved a great deal since she was rescued, and she's doing very well.

This had to be the FIRST TIME since Phajaan (5-7 days, 24/7, no water, no food, extreme vile constant torture done by men with knives, pickaxes, and sharp hooks, done to her as a shackled young calf to force her to submit to man's abuses), this had to be the FIRST TIME since that, that she has not had a mahout on her neck, lording over her, abusing her. Thank God all of that evil abuse is over!! Imagine her joy at getting to swim WITHOUT some man on her neck, a mahout with a sharp steel bullhook! To swim FREE, what JOY!! (The abusers even ride them into the river when they bathe!!)
I just don't understand where the conscience is, of a man who commits Phajaan torture, who works a severely handicapped creature.. What cruelty!!
I'm thankful she's safe & happy today AND from hereon in -- I hope others who are in similar businesses (riders, etc.) who are using animals for their own personal benefit will stop & think whether their animal is genuinely happy, healthy, etc. & whether everything possible is being done for said animal to ensure animal's good health, comfort & happiness.
Sweet Girl, you are not alone. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee has my most favorite elephant, named Shirley, who also has a bum leg, but her's is a back leg. She walks all over that property, her home now, and she is happy - as you must be now too. Thanks to the volunteers, who helped show her love and compassion. Not all humans are kind, but thankfully most of us are!

So glad there is a sanctuary for these poor injured animals, who should be treated with respect and not abused from the logging or tourist industry! I hate to see the videos that show the elephants in chains; it makes me angry and very sad to see these majestic creatures enslaved by humans! So grateful to all the volunteers and workers at this Elephant Park/Sanctuary for their loving and caring ways. These elephants deserve to be retired and live out their lives to their fullest and happiest!

The new ones you've been meeting love you so much, and I rejoice that you now live with them, and can swim, forage, and freely socialize in peace. I just left a comment a second ago, and then I went to the top and realize that this posting from the channel is two years old! I agree with others in the comment section that requested more information be provided about the welfare of this beautiful female elephant. Perhaps this channel should have updates every so often, perhaps a compilation, to highlight the progress of these elephants. We know that the majority of them are wounded emotionally and psychologically, and many of them bear obvious physical injuries, too. I know that all the viewers would love to see how these elephants have blossomed under the tender loving care that you provide for them. I know that I am crying now and I would love to be comforted in knowing that these animals are happy and thriving under your gentle, loving, patient care...😇👍🏾🙈🙉🙊
It breaks my heart to see her leg in that condition! I am grateful that there are kind people who are taking care of her now. I wish her leg could be fixed! I wish Jesus could visit her and do a miracle. You know how he healed the blind man and many others? He could restore her leg to its natural perfect state!
Kabu is so much better these days, is stronger and faster in her walk, she's greatly improved. Love came into her life as she adopted a rescued baby elephant as if the calf were her own. As a result, baby Chana has filled Kabu's life with new purpose, and Kabu's face is busy with contentment, peace and happiness! :)

She's improved SO much, and has found love. :) She adopted a rescued baby elephant, the delight of her eyes, her pride and joy, and tends Chana like she was her own. Kabu is full of life as a result, brimming with purpose and joy! In the new video, we can see that she is much stronger with far greater ease in walking, and is able to walk much faster, actually able to keep up with busy little Chana. We can see the happiness and peace on her face and in her eyes, and restoration to her heart and mind, and its overflow to her body. She's doing SO well! Chana was rescued before being forced through PHAJAAN/Torture Training/ The Crush, so Chana has not suffered, has not been broken or damaged in body or mind, and is thus strong in energy of joy and vigor, a busy, active little elephant, secure in her world, tended by Kabu's attention and love. They bring so much to each other, their bond is beautiful! :)
Kabu's injury/break occurred when she was 2 years old, and she is now 30, and they say she's not in pain. Her leg/foot healed, albeit wrongly, because the abusers didn't set it or tend it. It is healed, however, and nothing can effectively be done at this point, other than the big improvements that she has gained since her rescue. Thankfully, her overall condition is significantly improved, as is her strength and walking ability, together with the restoration of her heart, mind and will, along with peace. So she and Chana are living a very good life, not wild, but free and cared for, happy and fulfilled. Kabu doesn't live in the past, she's very busy in the present, loving and rejoicing in her baby. We should share her joy. :)

As of March 2018, she is really happy in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She spends her days eating and bathing with her friends. At, night, she sleeps like a baby. She's a big favourite at the sanctuary.

Every step that poor thing took made me feel physically sick. So many owners say they love their elephants, this proves them wrong. So thankful for the kindness of the sanctuary workers.

She's significantly stronger, walking with far greater ease and speed, is in much better condition, showing a countenance of happiness and contentment, and she's found love! She adopted a rescued baby elephant, the delight of her eyes and her pride and joy, and it's impressive how invigorated she is to be able to keep up with energetic Chana. Chana has brought great restorative energy to her adoptive mom, love and joy, and Kabu's face shows that restoration, as does her body and walk. I am so impressed. Of course, the old injury is still visible, but so much improvement has been made! Thankfully, Chana was rescued before being forced through PHAJAAN/Torture Training/The Crush, so Chana hasn't suffered, has not been damaged, traumatized or broken, so her body, mind and Will are strong, vital and intact, joyful, confident and energetic, full of vigor and life, having no fear, and no loss of peace! She brings so much to Kabu, and Kabu pours out her love and attention on Chana. Their bond is beautiful, they are safe and at peace, living joyfully together. We can rejoice with them! :)
People easily claim that they love, while most don't know what love is, or what it looks or acts like. The elephants know, however, and they know how to love.

Kabu's elephant leg healed incorrectly when she was about 2 years old. Kabu is now about 30 years old, and surgery would be ineffective, high risk to her health and life, dangerous. She's walking so much better now, she's stronger and is in better condition, living in peace and safety at ENP. She also adopted a baby elephant that was rescued, so now the calf has a mother in Kabu, and Kabu's heart has been restored by baby Chana's presence in her life! She's living a new life, they both are!

Thought this video is all about that...
No, they have talked about this elsewhere. They don't want to put her through that surgery. The bone has healed in this shape. She was 2 when it happened and 25 when she was rescued (in this video). Also, many of the elephants at ENP have injuries from working in logging, trekking, and begging and could use a number of surgeries. People do awful things to them ranging from just very poor care (making them stand on concrete for hours in the hot sun w/no mud to cover their skin) to shooting them in the eyes with a slingshot because they didn't cooperate. There is one with a hip that looks dislocated when she walks. It costs a ton to rescue, feed them, and give them medical care. I think they would rather rescue another elephant than do the surgery.
The elefant broken leg was the result of human intervention and abuse so yes a make sense repair the damage only you need is a grump of veterinary that be welling to do the job for Free to collaborate and donations to do the cost of doing so you it will be millions of people welling to help and wach the video to collaborate with contribution and Google to do don't think that it can be done the extra resources can be use to rescue others try to think not to react to other people's opinion

Maybe someone can print her a 3D walking brace. That would be awesome ;)
that wont work for her. Elephant foot has a really different structure from other animals. Besides, 3D printed materials wont withstand her weight. She needs a cast. And to make a cast, there has to be a special mould for the cast and thats frankly quite expensive.

The injury/break occurred when she was about 2 years old; she was rescued about the age of 25, and now she's 30. The break healed incorrectly long ago, and it would be ineffective for them to try to surgically improve it. She has improved a lot since this video, she's stronger and faster in walking with far greater ease, and has experienced a great deal of restoration due to the peace, safety and now love in her life. She has adopted a rescued elephant calf, and is able to keep up with baby Chana, as she tends her as if Chana were her own. Chana is the delight of her eyes, and has brought great restoration to Kabu's heart and mind, and to her body as well. Kabu is doing REALLY well! She has enough weight to deal yet alone a person riding her back. Poor thing I love elephants. I pray she got help.

Was anything done for Kabu's leg? I can only imagine that it would continue to get worse and cause her much more pain for the rest of her life if it is not attended to. Is it possible to reset elephant bones like human ones can be?

It could get fixed but it would be rly rly rly expansive. u could safe more than 10 additional elephants with that money.
Oh that's heartbreaking but I do understand choosing to use the money to save several other elephants, even though I feel terrible for her :( I hope she is at least getting some really good pain meds as it looks terribly painful.
People crowd fund shitty products all the time, I want to believe that this would be a great way to raise money for animal surgeries. The animal savers can film the whole journey and everybody is happy in the end. 0:30 is absolutely shocking :(
in a video on ENP, they talk about this elephant & how it happened while very young & it has completely healed that way. She is not in pain anymore. It definitely was painful when it happened, but not anymore. Just like breaking a normal bone for humans...most of us just get casts to let it heal correctly, but if we were not able to get one, it'd heal..just incorrectly & look disfigured like so. Again, because it has 100% healed, it is far too late for them to do anything about it. They could cut off her foot but that'd probably cause a great deal of pain & money.
Tears for Kabu's past abuse. She's strong and showed her resilience and spirites. These elephants are so amazing, they accept and welcome their own kind in an instance. i hope all elephants are so lucky to be rescued and live a good life forever. thanks for all the great work.
Its 2021 & I see her now. Now she has a young elephant she follows & watches over. Then she has a blind elephant that also is together in their family. Out of all the elephants I love at Leks. Theses are the ones that give me hope & warm my heart. Its been awesome to be able to look back & see this same elephant years ago & to no where she came from. ❤
What has happened to the animal did you fix the leg or did you have to put her down please update

It's too late! It cannot be fixed. It's healed incorrectly. Kabu will be lame for the rest of her life. She can move but not very fast. It's ok, she's no longer pulling heavy logs.
@@kevinp8108 I found a video of a man that could make a brace for Kabu, he made one for another elephant Jabu maybe you can get in touch with them and find out who he is and get him to make one for Kabu, and possibly give her this brace so that she can walk? thank you, I pray that you can thanks
