Milorganite's website strongly suggests to NOT apply Milorganite at the same time as another fertilizer is applied. At 16:57 you mentioned that it should be all done on the same day: aerate, apply starter fertilizer and apply Milorganite. Have I misunderstood something?
You'll be fine. Just make sure you don't over apply the starter fertilizer or spill a bunch of it in one spot. Milorganite is very safe, and will not burn your lawn since it's organic.
I love your videos. I love a beautiful lawn and landscaping yard. I have some neighbors that hate me cause my yard looks nice but my grass is less to be desired but thanks to you I will dominate with my lawn grass next year if the good bless me to see another year. I hope Irma don't come to Florida I will praying that it turn out to sea but be prepared just in case be blessed. thanks again
Torpedo Grass...hell. And I agree with you on Bermuda. Just weigh the options and see what works best for your situation. Can't wait for the World lawn review. It seems....interesting!
I have an invasive grass that has taken over my lawn which I had never seen before. I use only Scotts Kentucky Blue grass for many years. I contacted Scotts and sent them a picture of the grass close up as well as of the area of the lawn affected. They identified the grass as bentgrass and they advised to use Round up to kill the bent grass and everything then re seed in 7 days. I just listened to you tips you mentioned poa which I had never heard of . I googled Poa and low and behold there was the picture of exactly the grass I am plagued with. The advice I found on several web site as to use crab grass killer and pre emergent in the fall to prevent a re occurrence next year. Thank you for your helpful and educational site. I heading out now to "Throw her down"
Hey Allyn, those different number of washers or spacers are to level the mowing deck. You could also add a little bit of air pressure to the tires to raise it up a little bit but not too much.
Thanks for another great video. You actually are the sole reason why i started caring about my lawn. Now i'm getting into actual landscaping and taking my domination to the next level. Growing shrubs and trees now. But for the first time ever these trees i've started planting dont smell like skunk.
Great videos, always a lot of helpful information. My lawn has really taken shape watching your videos (the wife thinks I'm crazy). Just saying thanks.
hi there, got the lawnmower, the plus its powerful like you wouldn't believe, the cut is precise, minus is that you definitely have to get use to controls, or it will get away from you, for me I have little slopes and potholes in my back yard, so the weight of it made it difficult to get out of the holes, you also can't get close to fences or trees in tight spaces, if you have to turn sharp the handles stick out more than conventional mowers, but i have to say just to do my back yard alone use to take me 3.30 hours because of breaks and to keep my other mower from seizing up, but with this i did the front and back within an hour,,so i have to 3 days left to decide to keep it or return it, but i really want to keep it, its just heavy when it gets stuck, so i think ill just get some dirt and fill in the potholes, my lawn is manicured i just can't see the potholes, and ill use weedwacker to get rest of grass..great mower, just heavy and you can't get close like conventional mower in tight places..
Those spacers are for blade pitch, slight tilt toward the front provides the cleanest, and best cut that requires the least horsepower. That is why there is two in the back, and only one in the front. So you would have to put 3 in the back and 2 in front to keep the pitch correct.
Good video. Up here near the CT coast I'm getting ready for Fall stuff. I learned 2 things with this. #1. You don't need to do 1 thing for entire yard so I'll be fertilizing the good half soon and over-seeding the other. #2 Torpedo grass! Never knew that's what it was.
Great info! Question....I have a very thick, lush, irrigated kbg, fescue, ryegrass lawn (3 years old). I believe in the many benefits of aerating every Fall and I usually over seed at that time. Since my lawn has thickened so much, I was going to apply a granular pre-emerge this Fall instead of over seeding. But why not aerate as well? Won't the pre-emerge take care of any dormant seeds that are possibly stirred up from the aeration? Thanks in advance!
Al - Another great video and I've seen a strange grassy weed showing up in one part of my lawn over the last month, been wondering what it was and could not figure it out. Tried 2,4-D and fenoxaprop with no luck. Was going to glypho the patch (50 Sq Ft) and reno, until I saw this vid. I've got torpedo grass and based on your advice, bought some quinclorac. Hope it is effective, and this is another great reason I and likely a lot of us keep watching. You saved me some heartache and work. Big Thank you.
YES! LCN is going to go REEL LOW with the Bermuda. Going to switch over to a reel mower when that bermuda comes in? One more thing, put that lockwasher on top of the flat washer on your mulch kit.
Allyn you need to make sure that you deck has a slight rake to it. My exmark manual suggests it be set 1/8" lower in the front than the rear. Also when you measure mowing length from the ground make sure the blade is pointed towards the front of the machine since the deck will be raked in that direction. Happy mowing!
excellent thanks for giving me your tip my friend! I still feel like though, not matter what rakes I find, this thing still mows lower than my Toro and that is what bothers me about it :)
I hate torpedo grass! I am going to aerate in September, bring in 4 BIG truckloads of topsoil and then follow your guide for fall and new grass. I'm going to mix zoysia grass and southern lawn seed UNLESS you stay stop! My lawn will be perfect.
Alan, Love your channel! I have a home in Cape Cod. What type grass seed should I be using? what Is the best place to purchase seed at home depot? The sell Scotts and a couple of other brands.
You need to check the level on that deck.Be sure all 4 tires are properly inflated, and when the blades are facing forward they should be 1/8 to 1/4 lower in the front then the back and level side to side.I've never seen a mower that was level new.
I also have a Tru Cut Reel Mower 27" commercial. I use that as well only mows at 2.25 in height. Will I have problems mowing cool season grass that low. I generally use this mower in the spring. but would like to use it more often, great after mowing look as well. any suggestions would be great..
I was reading that problem lawns and flower beds that have torpedo grass infestation can use an cup of weedkiller, letting a section of the plant lay in the solutions where the plant will uptake the poison and not harm the surrounding plant/grass. It is supposed to actually kill the entire plant, which is your lawn could be a large patch. Might be worth trying, if anything it would make for a good video post.
Looks like that WorldLawn mower doesn't stripe without a striping kit. I bet you have one in your garage with close to that cut size but stripes better...
LCN, Q&A : I have a problem. I seeded my lawn myself but before i seeded, i tilled in a bunch of manure. I'm 2 years in and my soil bed is bumpy. In hindsight, i should have spent more time watering it down and spent the time compacting it better. As a solution, I was thinking on throwing in top soil, rake it in as best as possible , than use a roller compactor. Do you have any pro tips?
I would never question the LCN's expertise, but what about an area with very poor drainage? Will the aerate/ milo take care of that? I've heard leaf compost after aerate can help there- not needed? Thanks Alan!
Hello I have a rust disease in my lawn I live in Chicago area. My question is. Can I put Scott step 3 fertilizer to push out the rust disease then after two weeks aerate lawn, overseed, put starter fertilizer and Milorganite or I'm going to over fertilize my lawn?
Hey Allyn, So last week I aerated, put down 5lbs of seed per 1K, 3lbs per `1k of starter fert, and 5lbs per 1k of milo....I however didn't take care of the large existing nutsedge problem I had prior to doing this. I do however happen to have 2 packs of sedgehammer. Considering I overseeded, do you think it would be a good idea to spray the nutsedge, and if so when? The lawn is looking really good when cut right now...
I got the 3 bags of starter fert (only need 1), 3 bags of Milo and my grass seed already to go....just waiting for the temps to cool for the core aerator to make its return. Best of luck bro!
at the 20:00 mark, your landscape rock, I have the same here in Illinois. Apparently its no longer anywhere to be found by my supplier and I need more. Any idea what type of rock it is or name? thanks in advance
I have carpet grass spreading in my St Augustine lawn, there's nothing I can do about it either. I guess they will both have to co-exist. I'm hoping something like a hard freeze will come along one winter and kill it off or maybe a drought.
Hey Allyn, I noted the black algae upon your front sidewalk. I have that too. Any knowledge you can share about Wet & Forget or Spray & Forget products on eliminating and prevention of further build up? I sprayed my walk already with the W&F but we haven't much rain in several weeks. My sidewalks need to dominate and they are letting me down.
heystarfish100 do you have a pressure washer? I did my sidewalks earlier in the spring and it makes everything pop more. Brings domination to the next level. If have pics if you're interested. They are also posted on my twitter along with LCN's page.
Hi Allyn, buying a John Deere Aercore 800 from a golf course that has went out of business. Is it okay to punch holes in the lawn without removing the core is that okay. My lawn is really thick loving your tips. Thanks
On your WorldLawn Mower, I would check to see if the side to side and front to back is level. Generally speaking you should be within a 1/8" side to side (blades turned to 9 and 3 and measuring from ground to blade tip) on either side. And you want the back to be about 1/4" lower in the rear than the front (blades turned to the 12 and 6 position). Many mowers factory are not leveled and will scalp like nothing else. Also, I would look to see if Oregon makes GatorBlades for it. Even with the mulch kit, it will provide a better cut. The factory blades look like high lift designed for bagging.
Don Knicker Yes! Depends on the mower. They do extremely well with Riding mowers and zero turns. Push mowers, they are great as well over stock blades, if they make them. I have had a better cut with a 42" JD than stock JD blades. I know you can find on Amazon, but my go to is Bailey's Online. Great outfit in the west (primarily chainsaw and logging). If you have a Toro, I think they call them Atomic (Toro Brand). I use the G3 Gator Blades.
In most of your videos after aerating or coring you go ahead and seed, but I have not been able to find seeds for St Augustine grass (Floratam), so what is your recommendation? Because I want to aerate my lawn.
I think I heave brown patch fungus. I put down some Scotts granule treatment. Waiting two weeks to see if I need to put more down. Is it still safe to aerate, top seed and fertilize?
My lawn has gone completely dormant here in Michigan. For the next summer, I plan on doing a complete renovation this fall. What grass seed/species do you recommend that does not go into dormancy?
My thought from personal experience is the cutting deck is longer which make an uneven hill cut deeper in one side than the other because the deck is rigid with very little suspension
Blades pitch depending on brand is anywhere front 1/4 inch to 1/8th inch pitch toward the front, some even have 1/2 inch pitch. I cut grass for a living in Florida. Those are not really mulching blades btw, true mulch blades have two levels of blades. One that cuts the grass and one that mulches it. Worldlawn does not offer them, those are gator blades that you are using. They are made for mulching more before side discharging. You could probably get true mulching blades from Oregon.
Hi Allyn, do you ever talk about Marathon 2 grass? its very hard to find info about it out there. For example some places say to mow at 2inches, others at 3... etc.. do you have much experience with Marathon 2?
Hi Allyn, can you tell me please what or which shrub or tree I can plant in south Florida to not have to see my neighbors mess. TIA! Btw love all your vids!
Hi Allyn- very informative videos! Is there a reason why you recommend Core Aeration and spreading seed instead of an Overseeding Machine that cuts into the ground and disperses seed? Thanks!
hmm, i live in KC Missouri, we have a spot of grass that is taking over fast, it might be torpedo. Will that grow in the midwest? It could still be Bermuda or St. Augustine...
Question LCN: I have a new lawn (new construction) and this season I had a lot of crab grass come in. Would you recommend aerate/over seeding or ride out fall and apply pre emergent in the spring?
Does anyone have the Worldlawn 32" that the LCN is mowing with? Thoughts on it? I love that it is a floating deck on such a compact mower. I can get an Exmark Metro close to the same price, but that fixed deck kind of kills it for me. Thanks guys
I always buy all the milorganite from all the stores around me. When I run out can I use another organic from the farm supply company? This is what they are trying to get me to use. Nutrition-pel 4-3-0 1.5% Fe iron, 8.5% humid acid. Is it as good as milorganite?
Is it ok to use irionite liquid plus on my sod lawn? Its only 12 feet by 4 feet. Not very big at all. I did place few days ago and its pretty green. Just wondering if its compromising my lawn health?
I’m in St Louis, MO and have a Zoysia lawn I want to aerate and overseed this fall. Can’t find Zoysia seed what other variant would you recommend? Great video. Thanks for all the tips. Be safe.
I have the Toro Turf Master and the Time Master with a Big League Lawn stripper on the turf master and amazing look after I manicure my cool season turf. By far I think Toro should sponsor the Lawn Care Nut...
Why is the torpedo grass so obviously different than the St. Aug? It would have been great to have you maybe pull a sprig of each and point out the obvious difference that your eye can see but maybe ours cannot. Love your channel.
I live in Ohio and I have something that looks like torpedo grass. Keeps in wet areas of my lawn and for the longest time I thought it was crabgrass. What do I do?
Milorganite's website strongly suggests to NOT apply Milorganite at the same time as another fertilizer is applied. At 16:57 you mentioned that it should be all done on the same day: aerate, apply starter fertilizer and apply Milorganite. Have I misunderstood something?
they have to be safe in their recommendations whereas I can be a TH-cam cowboy and "Thrower Down"
But in your experience it didn't burn the lawn, did it? :)
You'll be fine. Just make sure you don't over apply the starter fertilizer or spill a bunch of it in one spot. Milorganite is very safe, and will not burn your lawn since it's organic.
Duly noted. Thanks.
Oleg Obukhov What model Earth works spreader is that?
Do you have a video on how to prevent AND repair dog urine burns on grass? That would be very helpful!
yes, get rid of the dogs, 100% effective
Any advice on killing Bermuda in a lawn in Indiana? Mostly tall fescue, Kentucky blue, some eye
Dude, this excites me... a new Franken lawn! Can't wait. Gotta love that Bermuda.
Love the Barrington Levy in the background!
Oh yeah baby, it's Frankenlawn 2.0! I missed the drama and the sweat and tears... now it's back and bigger than ever. ;)
I love your videos. I love a beautiful lawn and landscaping yard. I have some neighbors that hate me cause my yard looks nice but my grass is less to be desired but thanks to you I will dominate with my lawn grass next year if the good bless me to see another year. Always funny seeing your spirit fingers when you point at your lawn.
I have an invasive grass that has taken over my lawn which I had never seen before. I use only Scotts Kentucky Blue grass for many years. Barrington Levy is a fine selection sir. Thumbs up to you.
Thanks for clarifying that, for aeration & overseeding, you put the Milorganite, seed, and starter fert down the same day. That cleared it up for me.
Would have loved to hear the outtakes after that first pass with the new ride....lol. We've all been there. Some (like myself) more than others.
I'm loving these longer videos. It's like a weekly episode of Lawn Care Nut. Gives me something to watch while the wife watches Game of Thrones lol
Hey Allyn, those different number of washers or spacers are to level the mowing deck. You could also add a little bit of air pressure to the tires to raise it up a little bit but not too much.
My parkway is only like 2 feet wide. I use a small rotary hand spreader, get low, and throw 'er down!
Thanks for another great video. You actually are the sole reason why i started caring about my lawn. Now i'm getting into actual landscaping and taking my domination to the next level. Growing shrubs and trees now. But for the first time ever these trees i've started planting dont smell like skunk.
Yes, Bermuda!! Quinclorac got rid of my invading St Augustine quick. Took two applications to get rid of the Bahia and St Augustine.
The mulchign kit was the best 120 I ever spent on my Graden tractor...and Ive spent thousands ontop of the tractor lol.
I Hear that Barrington Levy "Here i Come" in da background..WHAT DA GWAN?....im on to you Mr. Grass man😂😂😂😂
Looks like the blades that came on it have quite a bit of lift to them too. Might be sucking the grass a little higher than your other mower.
Great videos, always a lot of helpful information. My lawn has really taken shape watching your videos (the wife thinks I'm crazy). Just saying thanks.
Happy to hear that you may have a Bermuda lawn again! Although I'm sure you would prefer all St. Augastine.

It's like running a hot dog down a warm hallway 😂. I haven't heard that one in a while.

love the Levy playing inthe background!!!
Love the garage studio! I'm getting ready for my fall maintenance!!
Excellent video as always! Full of information, looking forward to seeing the lawn progress. Also enjoyed the shot of the old lawn!!
thanks bro!
Awesome intro. Lol. Can't wait to see this Frankenlawn 2.0 start up. Gonna be a good series.
Good video. Up here near the CT coast I'm getting ready for Fall stuff. I learned 2 things with this. #1. You don't need to do 1 thing for entire yard so I'll be fertilizing the good half soon and over-seeding the other. #2 Torpedo grass! Never knew that's what it was.
Love the Barrington Levy at 6 min in the background 👍🏾
I gotta say. Ive used compost to topdress after seeding, my lawn came out looking like a carpet, and it kept my grass seed from washing away.
Another great informative video, thanks! PS OI love your selection of music in the background around the 6 minute mark!

The Lawn Care Nut how high were you able to get it after adding washers?
Good job! Always pull the spark plug wire first. That simple step can save a world of hurt.
I think the washers might be there so the cotter pin doesn't hit the paint. Adjusting the deck height with extra washers is a pretty good idea.
Waiting for the fall tips warm season. Throwing down milo tomorrow. Anything else I should be doing beside the milo at this point?! Thanks.
"No dice" ur ole school .. Love it bro n as always superb info.
When are we going to see that Timemaster sitting in the corner of the garage?
Love the garage studio bro I wish I had the space for an area like that in my garage. 👍🏽⛳️
It would be to level the deck. You can double check with a tape on both sides and also the blades on both sides.
Just noticed the "Manspreading" at 11:49. Too funny, Alan. I've watched this too many times apparently..
I also have a Tru Cut Reel Mower 27" commercial. I use that as well only mows at 2.25 in height. Will I have problems mowing cool season grass that low. I generally use this mower in the spring. but would like to use it more often, great after mowing look as well. any suggestions would be great..
When one aerates a lawn does you need to mark out and avoid sprinkler heads?

Hello
I have a rust disease in my lawn I live in Chicago area. My question is. Can I put Scott step 3 fertilizer to push out the rust disease then after two weeks aerate lawn, overseed, put starter fertilizer and Milorganite or I'm going to over fertilize my lawn?
Speaking of naturalizing a lawn into another grass...I have a mix of common Bermuda and hybrid. Is it possible to have one take over the other?
Hey Allyn, So last week I aerated, put down 5lbs of seed per 1K, 3lbs per `1k of starter fert, and 5lbs per 1k of milo....I however didn't take care of the large existing nutsedge problem I had prior to doing this. The lawn is looking really good when cut right now...
Does an organic morganite cause more mosquitoes then a Scott's chemical lawn care? I noticed something this year with organics
After seeding, how many weeks until you mow again? Or does it matter.
That tenacity line had me rolling
That ending though 😂😂
Went right along with the beat
got lucky with that for sure :)
LCN Back in Force! Hell Yeah...Made in 'Merica'
Getting ready for the Fall Restore Step 1 in a couple weeks. Motivated!
Do you have warm season? Im doing the fall recovery too on common bermuda first time and hope I get the start date right im thinking Sept 15...
Nope cool season lawn here in the mountains...Sept 15 will be a glorious weekend indeed
@Solon2728 Awesomeness "THROW ER DOWN"!!
Any idea what type of rock it is or name? thanks in advance
disregard, found some up in Wisconsin, called it "rockwood nuggets"
I have carpet grass spreading in my St Augustine lawn, there's nothing I can do about it either. I guess they will both have to co-exist. I'm hoping something like a hard freeze will come along one winter and kill it off or maybe a drought.

Keith B I heard about these gator blade is that the hot set up?
Don Knicker Yes! Depends on the mower. They do extremely well with Riding mowers and zero turns. Push mowers, they are great as well over stock blades, if they make them. Keith B thanks I think I will give them a try on my Gravely 0 turn
Allyn I feel like the one washer in the back and the two washers on the back might be done for striping purposes.
Nice tunes @7:20 bredren you not all bad
In most of your videos after aerating or coring you go ahead and seed, but I have not been able to find seeds for St Augustine grass (Floratam), so what is your recommendation? Because I want to aerate my lawn.
I think I heave brown patch fungus. I put down some Scotts granule treatment. Waiting two weeks to see if I need to put more down.
Is it still safe to aerate, top seed and fertilize?
Where did you get your edgers from for your flower bed and tree? Been looking for those same kind but different color.
Question. If I aeroate and overseed in October, will I be able to put down pre emergent in the early spring without affecting the new grass?
I need a Timemaster vs Worldlawn review asap! Both look pretty good. Still trying to find the best rig other than a reel for my Bermuda.
so I have to do the two individually first... then I can do the comparison - but its def in the works
My lawn has gone completely dormant here in Michigan. For the next summer, I plan on doing a complete renovation this fall. What grass seed/species do you recommend that does not go into dormancy?
Hey LCN I'm up here in Northwest Indiana. What's your thoughts about putting down gypsum to help break up the clay? Will it affect the seed?
My thought from personal experience is the cutting deck is longer which make an uneven hill cut deeper in one side than the other because the deck is rigid with very little suspension
Allyn, awesome video. Any openings in your patreon? Had a few more questions than socially acceptable in the comments section.
Blades pitch depending on brand is anywhere front 1/4 inch to 1/8th inch pitch toward the front, some even have 1/2 inch pitch. I cut grass for a living in Florida.
What is your opinion on dethatching a lawn? I was considering it as step 1 before my aeration overseeding and fertilizing.
Have you used the new Round Up product thats supposed to kill only weeds and not the grass??
Hi Allyn- very informative videos! Is there a reason why you recommend Core Aeration and spreading seed instead of an Overseeding Machine that cuts into the ground and disperses seed? Thanks!
Hey LCN when are you doing the World Lawn review I have one on order and really curious what you think of it
Any info on the stop sale of Milo in NH?
hmm, i live in KC Missouri, we have a spot of grass that is taking over fast, it might be torpedo. Will that grow in the midwest? It could still be Bermuda or St. Augustine...
I’m in a restoration on my lawn. Do you recommend the leveling rake? I’m concerned I’ll still have a lot of gaps and low areas. Thank you.
Thanks guys
You guys saw the timemaster in the background at 2:34 right?
I always buy all the milorganite from all the stores around me. When I run out can I use another organic from the farm supply company? This is what they are trying to get me to use. Nutrition-pel 4-3-0 1.5% Fe iron, 8.5% humid acid. Is it as good as milorganite?
I have St Augustine grass but have patches of yellow in some areas, what causes that and how do I correct it, thanks.
Lawn Geek they do, now lets get big league to send him a stripper for his timemaster
