    Thanks to you lawn care nut, my lawn was dominating this year! It actually dominated so much that all my neighbors started to care about their lawns.

    awesome video, I live in South Carolina and it's amazing to see you doing a project here. I recently purchased my first/forever home, and I have became a LCN addict. The use of milorganite alone inspired by you has made a night and day difference in my lawn. I've used a number of your tips and techniques and so far I couldn't be happier with the results I'm a starting to see. It's great in the world we live in to see someone like you Allyn, who is passionate about something that creates beauty and not destruction. Thanks and I look forward to more videos this spring.

    I can honestly say that I am glad I watched it all as I didn't think that I would find it all interesting as I was never really good with numbers etc but I have surprised myself and actually really enjoyed this. Maybe some of your figures are rubbing off. Thank you for the extra mile you go to do these!

    Hi Allyn this is going to be a very interesting project! From what I understand, the extended roots from the acidic tree injects most of the acid into the soil. Lime applications are like fighting a fire with lime that never ever ends, when the homeowner keeps the acidic tree injecting acid into the soil through its roots.

    I've never been motivated to get a soil test, though I know the benefit of them. The Soil Savvy examples you provided, as well as the detailed analysis of them have more than persuaded me. The tests seem a little expensive (I probably need three to accurately measure my lawn), but they're probably a beneficial investment in the long run. Thanks for your efforts in this video!

    Nice vid. Don't apologize. I appreciate the "why" cause that's how I am when I share knowledge. Too many people are always just looking for "the answer" (Just tell me how many bags of Milorganite and what setting to use on my spreader), but the answer for a lawn varies so understanding the why and how to properly determine what your lawn care needs are is important.

I'm looking forward to the future of your channel, the project lawn, and any awesome ideas I can steal for my own plot of grass! You make lawn care make sense, and that really rings a chord in my book.

    At 10# of dolomite lime per every 1,000 sq.ft. would take a bunch of applications to raise the Ph to an acceptable level. My information says that it takes 110# per 1,000 to raise it one full point in Ph. I just put 175# of dolomite on my front yard and 145 on my back yard. Both areas are about 2,500 sq. Ft. The back yard tested 6.0, today, and the front 5.8. I figure they are both in the 6.5 range, now. I will retest this fall and add more lime if need be. The front yard has a 300 year old white oak tree, right in the middle of it, which is probably the reason for the lower Ph. I am shooting for a Ph of near 7.0, but we both know that is wishful thing, here in the south.

    Also if you're looking for scenic shots (I know you love those) you've gotta check out old town Bluffton, and the place where you're driving(If you are driving where I think you're driving, keeping your element of surprise) toward the end of the video, get some shots of the sunrise along the May river and the history of Bluffton!

    Might want to revise your statement on lime not procuring any visible change in your lawn with this present test soil analysis which shows the terrain is very much poor in micro and macro nutrients. In such a depleted soil, the grass will change, and if the owner has at anytime put lawn feed(fert), he will see that after one month of the lime application, his grass will react to the NPK he already had spread and any subsequent Fert application.

    Hi Allyn, thanks for recommending a soil test-nothing beats a data-driven plan. I just received my results and they are quite different from what you show in this video. I got a very low NPK, a high PH, with extreme Ca and slightly elevated S. I for one, could certainly appreciate your insights about how to treat this, perhaps others could benefit as well. Should I send you the link to the report for your comments?

  • @soundmapper
    @soundmapper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video prompted me to get the soil savvy test done. It seems I have almost ideal conditions to work with as some macro and micros are in range, and those that are not, are easy fixes. However Phosphorus is through the roof at 26.8 and should be 4-10. Should I be concerned? Also, your suggestion of 10#/1000 of lime, is this because you should get all macro and micro within the zone and run low on ph if that's where it falls, or get ph in the zone and run high on micro and macro?

    If 1 point in Ph gives 10x and 2 points gives 100x then 1.5 is really 50x right? So, being at 4.5 instead of 6 is 50x off versus 14x, right? I am not completey sure, though.

    Just FYI about the 20-20-20 and 5-5-5, I found both, and in organic if that matters much.. FoxFarm Happy Frog 5-5-5 (comes in 4lb or 18lb), and Grow More 20-20-20 (comes in 1.5lb). Both pretty pricey though, I imagine the synthetics / other options would be cheaper.
