Hi Steve and guys, when i first watched this video sometime ago, I was honestly embarressed being born here in jordan and looking at an extremely lacking MRE for our soliders, however I've asked around through many friends and people in the army, and what I understood is that 1- The army gets freshly cooked meals from field kitchens 2- They also have a sort of group food rationing system where an individual on a specific squad/group keeps food items like: bread, vegetables, meat, tea, coffee, cheese and rice for the squad and they would cook it off together 3- They also have outposts where the government sends food rations in large bulks to be stored and shared among soliders and where they can replinesh their group's inventory of food if they're leaving for a task. 4- MREs were made for extreme situations where if none of the previous traditional ways of nutrition were available, however they are still deployed to not die on shelfs.
The reason this meal is so small is because most Jordanian soldiers tend to cook a lot while on duty, the army also supplies soldiers with lots of fatty, freshly cooked meals throughout the day

As a Jordanian I can tell you this , we consume a lot of bread with our meals , these beans can eaten as a separate meal with bread , same goes for the tuna , also it amazes me that you know Arabic very well , thank you for this video

Ever since leaving the AF in 07, I've always had a fascination with what types of American mre's I've never had/missed. Little did I ever think of all the different types of rations from all over the world. Pretty cool channel man, you have us all addicted to what's in the next box.

@@andro1096 Wine absolutely depends on the soil and climate. Different grape varieties have different responses to terroir, but grapes are notoriously sensitive to soil and climate conditions. Take the exact same grape and grow it in France and then in Australia in the same year, and you'll get a different wine.
I started out only liking the old ration reviews but now I just absolutely love ALL the reviews this channel has. Keep it up Steve! It has been 7+ years since i've had a MRE. Will have to obtain one and eat it to a video haha.

I can't speak for the Jordanian ration (which looked good even before Steve jury rigged it) but a former IDF guy said they end up despising all the tuna they keep getting. And they'll stop at any restaurant or kiosk they can find and get a falafel or schwarma. Or they'll find a lake and go fishing. They're never that far from civilization even when they're out in the Negev desert. And most of these guys (and girls) are reservists who get weekends off unless there's an emergency. So there you go. I want to see more Middle East rations!
You are right :) I am from Jordan and my brother is in the army, I can tell you one thing though, they normally eat in groups and they serve them 2 chunks of meat with tons of rice etc, fruits etc :)

I am a new viewer and at first I thought this was strange. I have come to love watching your reviews! You are very descriptive on everything you are sampling or discussing. I found myself going to my pantry and pulling one of my husband's old MREs. I didn't open it and try it out because he already told me about it. Your reviews did get me thinking about it though. I began asking him alot of questions about the ones he has consumed over the years. Awesome job~

Actually the main meal is a common dish in Jordanian/Syrian/Lebanese kitchen👌 and it's right to add the bean and tomato sauce to the rice😂❤ don't worry you did it right. Did the rice has Vermicelli in it? we cook it like that with margarine👌❤. My mom used to feed us this dish if we had a tiring day and needed some calories😂 p.s love your videos and your passion for these rations. It's very interesting and entertaining to watch❤

6:24 this is how you eat it, in most of the middle east, you get a plate of rice (sometimes mixed with something, green peas, chicken, potato) and you get a kind of soup that you put on the rice cause the rice is supposed to be dry with little flavor and this gives it that flavor.
Google Translate has a phone application that you point the camera at the section of words an it translate it. Very dope an hype, you should try it out.
Super interesting how the letters transliterated into 'pleb' for non-Arabic speakers/readers. The actual word is 'طعام' or 'food'. The two words look very much alike, though.

Makes sense as no way would this be enough for a day. It is more of a traveling snack for when you happen to be too far for a meal.

6:24 this is how you eat it, in most of the middle east, you get a plate of rice (sometimes mixed with something, green peas, chicken, potato) and you get a kind of soup that you put on the rice cause the rice is supposed to be dry with little flavor and this gives it that flavor.
