A tour bus carrying the Bangles stopped for gas in my home town when I was probably 12 or 13. I was getting a pack of Twizzlers staring at Suzanna Hoffs when Micki Steele patted me on the head. There’s my brush with rock n roll fame.
It is so cool to see female performers who are "real", meaning no Auto tune crap, dancers writhing around, no lip syncing, no foul mouthed rap or ebonics. Just a real band doing their thing with drums/bass/guitars/vocals. Awesome even if one isn't a Bangles fanatic. I am not, but still like them for what they do.
@@johndavid8815 Yeah, some of the newer broads are "doodle pads" and it isn't very becoming. What's up with the black chicks and tattoos? To me, they look like a skin rash or sores on them.

The Bangles were a band, for sure. When I first saw them in the early ‘80s, Go-Go’s were all the rage (and now in the RnR HoF). But their singular talent was Jane Wiedlin; not so, the Bangles, who were-a BAND!
*SUCH* a great little band. I feel like the music industry chewed them up in the late 80s, but at their peak they were wonderful. Check out their instrumental "Bitchen Summer" which rocks in a very similar way to this track.
They didn't actually own the 80s, they weren't around long enough. They had, what, two albums while they were at their commercial peak? It's too bad they couldn't get along because they probably would have been a first tier act for another 5+ years. But when they broke up it automatically relegated them to the nostalgia circuit.
It’s hard to believe that some-if not all-of these ladies’ ages begin with a 6. They play and sing like they did when their ages began with a 2, and the harmonies are spot on.
They can still hit the harmonies & play their parts. They're better than most bands I've heard from this era in terms of sounding close to what they were.
I knew I lost you 30 years ago when I traded up the Diploma for a Senior GED and moved to San Bernardino. Put tears i my eyes to see the video and hear your song again
I agree this is a great cover of a S&G song. However, you must have missed the Yes cover of "America". IMHO that is the definitive version of that song!
It's so great the just see and hear a great, great band without sparklers, rockets, fog machines, explosions and torches all over the place. Just good, hard played MUSIC done by wonderful performers -- The Bangles! Thanks ladies!
True garage band sound. Keep it simple and rock it. That's the way it should be. They all played well and sound great. All four of these ladies are in their 60's. I've seen a lot of old bands who didn't need to keep playing in public. These ladies NEED TO keep playing. Great job.
What's astonishing is hard the riff rocks on acoustic in the original recording. I enjoy the Bangles version more, and Vicki Peterson is an excellent guitarist; but Paul Simon banging that riff on 12-string accoustic is extremely impressive,
I just love it's the original four California girls playing on top of it. There isn't extra back up players or or musicians in the background. It's just the four still sounding and playing so well together! Oh, and having fun.
Wasn't crazy about the Bangles in my youth. I was pretty much a Hard Rock Freak. But as I grew I really fell in love with the Girl's. They have been timeless.
I was also a rocker who warmed to the bangles when they released Hazy Shade of Winter. Years later I learned it was a Simon and Garfunkel tune but they played it like an iron maiden song.
Well look at that! The Bangles doing a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and bringing back the original retired bass player. These ladies are rocking it here. That first EP the original 4 put out is still rocking!

there are a lot of cover songs where the band does a good job. There are few cover songs where the band almost turns the song into something different that's so amazing you almost think it's the bands own song. By the way, back when Annette (the original bass player who came back for the old first album release) was in the band, the Bangles did this song with Debbi (the drummer) singing lead. It was super rocking and can find it on TH-cam.
So good to see Annette back with the girls. She missed out the first time around when they shot to fame, but now she gets the chance to do it all again. I'm sure she enjoyed it.
I think Susanna Hoffs found the fountain of youth and drank it dry
She was born January 1959 ❤
She's stayed beautiful
