When my mother remodeled her kitchen in the 90s, she had her new cabinets (honey oak cathedral and square-raised) custom-made by the cabinet maker friend of the family who'd worked on our previous houses. The good news is that all these years on, they're still in excellent condition. The bad news is that all these years on, they're still in excellent condition. 🙃 🙃
Thats great!! I know exactly what you mean. I Run across many of those custom made cabinets like those you speak about.😊Thanks for the comment and watching the video.😊
I would be elated to have cabinets in excellent condition, especially after so many years. Trends come and go but quality is forever and can be updated without spending lots of money and ripping off things unnecessarily..
@@vaderladyl Yes, we're very fortunate with this, and no, i don't see us replacing them. The funnier part of this story is that the cabinets she took down to put up the oak ones are all out on one of the walls of the garage, so she basically has two kitchens 😀
@@deborahmaehs7604 Funny you should say that, because i've actually thought about that 😂Holy cats, but she'd have my head, and then some if i did that . . . 😂😂
Thank you for the comment and watching. Obviously, some inspiration from your channel as it goes well with what i do with my renovation projects. Thanks again I really appreciate the feedback.
After watching the video I get some ideals how to give my kitchen cabinets a new look without costing an arm or leg 😝 Thanks and hope you have more subscribers
For backsplash i agree nothing looks bad. My personal preference is 4inch that matches the top or tile but NOT both. Doing a 4in and tile above gives the wall a cluttered look. Also for flooring you HAVE TO LEAVE SPACE FOR EXPANSION on the edges. It will expand and contract. Do not run it tight! If you dont like qtr round then run it under the base.
I love those backsplashes that match the countertop. For my upcoming remodel I've picked out marble that will be used for both. I've never liked subway tiles, they're just too ubiquitous and boring; there's nothing unique or interesting about them at all. They're super popular though, so obviously my opinion is in the minority. I'm remodeling for myself though, not to sell, so I'm going to put in what I like. To each their own!
Thank you for watching and also your comment. Always like hearing what others have to say and yes put in what you want as that is important and enjoy your home. Good luck with the remodel.
I have hickory kittchen cabinets with Shaker panels. I never plan to replece them. Above the cabinets are open and display my pottery. Is dust really an issue? Use a device that catches dust. I don't have an exhaust fan above my stove top in the island. It would have cost MORE than the stovetop and the oven. Paint is a whole lot cheaper than the exhausting unit. Never even had to do that after 25 years. Unless you're planning to sell your house in the near future, live with what YOU like.
This isn’t the first video I’ve seen about how microwaves over the stove look cheap, but I haven’t seen a solution for a place for the microwave. I hate the microwave in the island, it’s too low. You have to bend over all the time for it because it’s at your knees there. So where should people put a microwave?
Yeah i agree. when i do my renovations depending on the home and layout, i have done the island and i agree the island is a tough one too as yes i feel its too low but have you looked into the microwaves that are top loaders to help with that? They are more expensive but help with the height issue to a point but still not a super great solution. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Hey Thanks again for the comment. I actually just bought a home to flip, that has wood work in it that I do not want to paint. I am trying to mix it and keep a more traditional look as the wood work is perfect in the home. Thanks for watching.
For me it depends on the style of home I am working on. Some homes I leave alone while others I open up the layout. Seems like lately more people are liking the walls more than an open concept but like I always say, do what makes you happy since its your house, you cannot appeal to everyone. Thanks for watching and the comment
Yes you are absolutely correct on that. I agree as well that todays pressboard stuff isnt the quality of the old school cabinets for sure. Thanks for watching and your comment
I get you think no backsplash looks cheap, but I currently don't have one and it causes no problem. Even behind the stove I hardly ever to never splash the wall. So why add that expense? Washable paint solves the problem.

@@tamaramartin4015 Well, you could always swap those in the garage back in the kitchen 😅

I just commented on another of your videos how i hate seeing flippers paint custom made real wood cabinets that are in great shape.

Small kitchens are a real challenge...
Yes small kitchens depending on the style of home and such, can be a challenge for sure. Thanks for watching and the comment
Do you typically take down walls in order to create a more open floor plan?

“Look cheap” is in the eye of the beholder. Real oak wood cabinets can be better than the pressboard modern look crap sold in the big box stores.

Quarter round looks awful to me
Thanks for watching. Yes i prefer to not have quarter round but at times its necessary. Thanks for the comment
90% of this video on some dude's face is useless.
