    It really is so demotivating as an artist for instagram to not push your actual art photos.. they say they care about the creators but they don't really! youtube is actually pushing my videos and I'm getting rewarded for the hard work I'm putting in! 😃👍

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I know it can feel discouraging, but let's not have a victim mindset! It's not helpful at all to blame Instagram for not pushing our art, when really the biggest problem is not optimizing our posts correctly and not encouraging engagement. There ARE artists who get pushed and do really well, and you can too if you start focusing on what you can control, and what you can do to work with the algorithm instead of against it :)

      Answer to your question, i've been on instagram for awhile now, several years. I have 63k followers and my experience with reels was good in the beginning but currently they seem to not be shown as much as my previous ones. Example a couple months ago my reels would get 10 - 30k views on average but now it is 5 - 10k. Not sure what went wrong...only thing I changed is that I do them more frequently but it seemed that was in my favor since the app began offering bonus' and all the data was pointing towards us producing more reels. Any ideas? Thanks again for sharing!

    Hi Ness, thank you for all your great content and advice. I was getting really crap reach on instagram, I was lucky if my posts reached 100 accounts. I kinda gave up for a while and stopped posting for a few weeks then a few weeks ago I decided to post a caricature piece I had been working on and I couldn't believe it reached 2.5K accounts. Since then I have posted once or twice a week thinking it must have been a fluke but I am still getting good reach, my best was 4K reached and average is around 2.5K not sure what has changed or if it will last, but the algorithm seems to have cut me some slack at the moment. I post carousels, I create them by using the original artwork and zooming in to specific areas for the other images in the carousel and also use my logo.

    I've been on Instagram for years and in the beginning it was definitely easier to get followers because of the hashtags and everything. • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Reels stressed me out at first too, but like everything we can learn it, and after we have the hang of them they can actually be very easy to create. After all, they don't have to be complicated and some of my most popular reels are very, very simple!

  • @tribalbabymum
    @tribalbabymum 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wow, this was really inspiring, I have played around with a few reels and not found much, maybe I was too late, LOL. Perhaps I'll try again, I use the carousels all the time though, and don't get much traction, but perhaps I'll do more experimenting.

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just posting a reel in and of itself isn't magic, it needs to catch people's attention and be optimized for the algorithm. It takes some research and experimenting to get the right balance, but once you figure it out, reels still work REALLY well. It's not too late. Since I posted this video, I have grown my account to over 6,000 followers and my reels regularly get hundreds of thousand of views. One of my most recent one reached over 900k views!

    Hi, Vanessa! This video was really helpful and motivating, so thank you for sharing. I was wondering about the audio of the reels. Is it ok to put a song as background to the art instead of talking? And does a soundless reel generally push people away? In my experience as a watcher, I hate irrelevant music on videos and turn the sound on only if there is really something valuable to hear, but I don't know how other people think.

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally love to use various audios for my reels! Trending audios can help your reel take off. It doens't have to be annoying lip-synch ones, some of them are just some nice chill music you can put in the background it makes no difference if the viewer's sound is on or not. Right now, I'm using some trending Christmas music sounds for my reels! Easy peasy.

    Where can I even edit videos with the tiktok sound i want to use with it, usually i cant find sounds like those elsewhere & if i edit first and put music after, how would i know that it fits the sound... kinda frustrated with reels (._.)

      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว

      Posting on TikTok and Instagram with the same content is tricky because as you've noted, there are notable differences between the platforms. Videos that would be easiest to repost would be ones without music or specific hook. To avoid the watermark, you could edit your videos on the computer or on your phone in a video editing app, keeping the original video on your device and uploading them to both TikTok and Insta separately. You can choose music in the app and may have to choose different ones if they're not available on both. DO NOT delete reels, because old ones can start getting pushed even after a long time and any videos you do count towards your level of activity and interaction on the platform. Even if they don't get views, leave them! It's good to note that just doing a reel isn't magic though, it has to be something interesting for people! From my experimentation, I've noticed that short reels of 15 seconds or less do really well, as do those with good info in the caption (so people save it). Try experimenting with different reel ideas and see which ones do best! Good luck!

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have 200 followers or more, continue with the old one. Some of those people may still be active, and there is some authority that comes from having a number of followers already. You can reinvigorate your account after posting regularly for 1-2 months. If you had less than 200 followers, it doesn't really matter though. You can start fresh (more work but feels good) or set up a whole new account. Hope this helps!

      Part is luck, but there's actually a lot more in our control than you would think. Just making a reel isn't magic, the reel has to be interesting for your audience to watch. I've been experimenting a lot of different types of videos and some completely bombed (less than 50 views) while others consistently got a lot of views and engagement. I noticed several patterns: reels that are pretty short (15 secs or less) do well, and those that are "saveable" (containing info in the video or caption that people want to save for later. My best has almost 70k views, and that's on the brand new account I demonstrated in this video.

      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว

      A popular reel format is lip-synching! Some way you can do this with art is to choose a nice catchy or funny audio, and film your own visual to go with it. I saw one today that was an artist filming their screen with a beautiful illustration, and the audio they used was someone saying "I'm going for that effortless look, but actually, it's a lot of effort!" in a valley girl accent. Or you can use music audios and be silent, showing your work or you doing a face or a gesture :) The TikTok robot voice is also really popular. You write your text and the computer says it. It sounds a bit off but everyone uses it so we've gotten used to it by now!

      Either is good! Starting a new account from scratch is difficult. It's a little bit easier with an account that already has a history of posts and engagement, but with the account being inactive for a long time you should expect that it's going to be hampered in the algorithm in the beginning. All in all I'd say it's about the same.

      @@magicwandstudio3141 Hashtags are not as helpful as they used to be, but they won't hurt you either! While reels are pushed by Instagram more than static images, just posting a reel in and of itself is not magic - it needs to be something that people want to see! I've noticed that when one of my reels gets some likes, saves and comments within the first few hours, then Instagram will start sharing it to a wider audience. So first and foremost, what's important is to create interesting content. You may have to experiment and try different thing to figure out what your audience likes to see. For example, I've noticed that shorter reels (10-20 sec) with an interesting tease in the video and then more information in the caption itself do best for me. But it could be different for you!

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you leave your account dormant for a long time, it is very hard to get traction once you come back. Reels are also much more saturated than they were last year and the algorithm has changed - what worked last year isn't necessarily what works now. SHORT reels of 5-8 seconds is what works best now, and you have to post a lot of them to get your account back to an "active account". Not all the reels will work. Out of 5 reels I post, 4 will get 500 views or less and only one of them will gain traction and get a few thousand views. The pattern is hard to discern.

      That could be for many reason, but most commonly it happens when we don't optimize our posts for the algorithm.
