This is somewhat similar to my Marakech airport experience. Then you queue for an hour to get your paper boarding pass stamped. Then another queue to check that the stamp is indeed present. THEN secure screen again 😂 all with some interesting staff attitudes.
Tipping for using a bathroom at a train or bus station is a common practice across South Asia. They don't have a fixed price. They are happy with a couple of cents. The money is often used for keeping the bathroom clean (they don't). At an airport, am hearing this for the first time.

Thankfully not all people are just out to get tips out of others and I thought that was not a very nice thing to do. 13 years ago, my daughter and I stayed at the wonderful Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan and the staff were great. When going home we sat in the lounge with a ton of baggage we had bought 2 extra suitcases and had heavy hand luggage and lots of plastic bags waiting for my daughter's dad to pick us up. We figured we could carry our luggage ourselves and not to save money but we thought her dad would come in and help us which he didn't. To our great surprise the men/staff came over and started to pick up everything and one of them said " we don't want tips but want to do this for you because you have been so generous with tips" I felt embarrassed because I thought they didn't think we could afford anymore tips but this was just so sweet of them to do and I never forgot it. Isn't it just great when people do surprisingly nice things for you? I had only given a little more tips than my guide book suggested. The only thing out of the ordinary I did was before leaving our room we had taken the champagne cooler which was on a big silver plate and filled it with candy, cakes and cookies flowing over to the plate and we put all the handfuls of coins we had next to it with dollar bills. We figured working as a maid was hard work and wanted to surprise her. We were the ones to be surprised:) Just a little story of kind people making us smile:)
Noel I did this exact adventure to find the bridge, go past the mosque, on to the roundabout to get to the Aloft hotel 4 months ago!! Hahah I figured out the next day that there is a shortcut on the other side of the mosque to get back to the bridge in the airport. 😅 Keep it up and always showing the good, bad, & the ugly.
Hi Noel - thanks for the video. Just to clarify the lounge situation - the reason staff get people to come in is not that they want tips (I have never tipped anyone) but because it is a revenue generator for the Civil Aviation Authority. Even if you are not travelling business class, you can use the facility by paying around Rs 5000 (cash or card). I never use Lounge Key because it cost more that way (£25 = Rs 9000).
All that money spent on Dubai and people regularly wait for over an hour at the baggage claim. And then once they emerge no public transport links to the hotels... Unbelievable...
I probably would have been close to tears. All the back and forth and being asked for a tip becomes annoying and tiring. I guess live and learn, at least your flight was nice. Be safe and waiting for your next adventure. Take a cab next time to your hotel...it's safer than walking in the dark street.
Wow! what an adventure on this one. That was so fun to watch, I now know never to accept a "free lounge" when traveling!😅 I look forward to your next one!!!👍👍👍
That credit card verification thing which is in place by many pakistani airlines is the worst policy in place..You can buy tickets online using a Credit card but you have to physically Go to their ticketing office (which is usually 1 o 2 ) in the major city and verify it. Huge Inconvenience ! apparently it is there to stop Fraudulent transactions but who knows.
I'm surprised that we are still verifying people's credit cards. Let's say someone doesn't know about this requirement and their ticket was purchased by someone else then they'll miss their flight. I recently heard PIA contracted their ticketing for 30 years so they cannot change their ticketing system by much for that long. Looks like Air Blue has done something just as stupid as well.
Nice video, I enjoyed watching it. Hey maybe Noel could start a new challenge, which takes longer, the actual flight or the time it takes from landing to the airport hotel. 😂
Air tags are great but add an unnecessary stress to travel. My one was saying a case was still at Heathrow when we landed in Orlando, then it came along on the carousel
Tipping is getting out if control everywhere especially when most people dont carry much cash with them anymore. Maybe someone will invent a world wide tipping credit card?…haha
I wonder whether some of the odd experiences like the strange tipping incidents are symptoms of Pakistan's bad economic situation right now. I was surprised it is possible to have an enjoyable visit to Pakistan. I would have expected the people there would be very stressed out based on the situation the country is in right now.
100% times here are really really bad rn due to awful governance in the past 1 year its good to see that the Pakistani experience is still hospitable but it used to be even better a few years back when there was a positive vibe inside the country
That was quite a trip there, Noel. They have an absolutely insane way to try to get in and out of the airport. Good heavens! Gotta say, I'm missing your loo reviews. This flight didn't have one and neither did the last one. I know it's silly but I was rather bummed. Pakistani airlines are banned in the US, too, as we as Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. India and Bangladesh can come to the US, but I've never seen them here before. Question: has the UK banned Russia as we have? I miss visiting the UK, though I think my doctors may allow me to start travelling overseas again next year as long as I stay out of hospital! I desperately want to go to Australia. I have lots of mates there. Did you get to pat a koala while you were there?
Thank you Noel for another fantastic video. I love your videos because they are very informative, have good Humour and they always leave me wanting to watch the next one.
You know, UAE is a poor country struggling with billions of dollars of income. You are asking them to build something like a walkway or shuttle service? Have you thought of little prince Ahmed birthdays? Do you want a child's sadness in your conscience?
Great video noel. I find baggage reclaim weird also in DXB. Always transfered flights even with 40 min connection and bags always make it, but friends who visit dxb have to wait ages! It doesn't make sense.
If you want boarding chaos, try BA at EDI. Every time I've done that flight, they've thrown groups 1-3 in through the front door before opening the back door. Absolute bedlam.
In the US on a 2 hour flight you get junk snacks; in Europe a piece of chocolate if you are lucky. VASP in brazil used to serve a hot meal even on a 1 hour flight. They don't have Shuttle busses to the airport hotels?
Hi Noel, last time I was at this airport in 2012 I had a similar if not worse ordeal because they had introduced a last minute airport tax lol, I feel for you.
Noel, in Dubai there is a hotel shuttle service, operated by the airport, not the hotels. Leaves every 10 minutes, does a local roundtrip. I stayed at the same hotel as you, Aloft. Once aboard, took about 6 or 7 minutes. Think we were the 3rd hotel drop off. Just for future reference.
It's definitely all quite bizarre, but it makes great viewing. I was checking the Aloft webpage for that property, and it seems to be void of information about getting there from T1 apart from a taxi. Glad you (finally) made it.
Another great video, Noel, and interesting your comments re the flight crew. I don't know if you watch your contemporaries videos, but Sam Chui just released one where he was a guest crew member on a Scoot flight Singapore to Melbourne. It really showed how hard these people work to make sure we enjoy our flight. Looking forward to the next part of your journey next week.

Hahah I figured out the next day that there is a shortcut on the other side of the mosque to get back to the bridge in the airport. 😅 Keep it up and always showing the good, bad, & the ugly.
That’s what I like about his videos. He doesn’t just show the good stuff…he shows he can have challenges as well. Very informative and good to know 😊
Hi Noel - thanks for the video.
Awesome video! In Dubai, you can probably find a hotel that is on the metro line that serves the airport. That's what I would do lol
A bit of a crazy journey. Really really really enjoy your vids / travels. Cheers! 🎉🎉
😂😂 Your mrs seemed less than impressed with your bespoke items. Nice one Rach
All that money spent on Dubai and people regularly wait for over an hour at the baggage claim. And then once they emerge no public transport links to the hotels...
Unbelievable...
Um there is a metro. I've taken it.
@@Tee55118 Read carefully, did I say there is no metro or didn't I say there is no metro link to the hotels as shown by the video.?Thanks!
@@bganonimouse2754 enjoy Dubai as you like!
@@Tee55118 As long as its not on foot :D
I probably would have been close to tears. All the back and forth and being asked for a tip becomes annoying and tiring. I guess live and learn, at least your flight was nice. Be safe and waiting for your next adventure. Take a cab next time to your hotel...it's safer than walking in the dark street.
Noel , the other passengers were going back to Dubai for their jobs . I bet they are excitible
Thanks for visiting my home country.
Wow! what an adventure on this one. That was so fun to watch, I now know never to accept a "free lounge" when traveling!😅 I look forward to your next one!!!👍👍👍
Love watching Noel. So polite and such a nice man.
Thank you.
Hale and Pace did a very funny sketch years ago about a bathroom attendant who did everything, including shaking off the drops.
Yes! I so thought that's where Noel was going with his story about the toilet attendant, lol.
It should be inside the terminal
The way said asalamualaikum cracked me up
I'm surprised that we are still verifying people's credit cards.
Love your partner's enthusiastic responses to the Bespoke boxes - reminds me of home - LOL
I have lots of stress in my life but you are a beacon of light that makes me happy
Food on a domestic flight in the US! You’d be lucky to get a pretzel from the packet!!!
Great vlog as always! Better a 20 min walk with all ok than a dodgy taxi driver playing roulette with your life… Keep up the good work. Be safe!

The bad economic situation could be one reason but its quite common to rip off or ask tips, especially from foreign nationals in South Asia.

Thanks for review & recomendations😊
Thank you, glad you enjoy them!
Couldn’t help but laugh at you trying to get to your hotel. We’ve all been there!
Why didn't the hotel provide a shuttle service to/from the terminal?
You know, UAE is a poor country struggling with billions of dollars of income. You are asking them to build something like a walkway or shuttle service? Have you thought of little prince Ahmed birthdays? Do you want a child's sadness in your conscience?
Pakistan in a nutshell. Love it.
This is why I don’t have an air tag as I’d have permanent anxiety about my bag! No knowing means I can’t worry about something I can’t see lol
Odd, I understood (and experienced) it was usually the opposite XD I have that just sending things through the x-ray in security XD
Great video noel. I find baggage reclaim weird also in DXB. Always transfered flights even with 40 min connection and bags always make it, but friends who visit dxb have to wait ages! It doesn't make sense.
Sounds like they prioritise transfer baggage which is a smart system, imo

If you want boarding chaos, try BA at EDI. Every time I've done that flight, they've thrown groups 1-3 in through the front door before opening the back door. Absolute bedlam.
Great video. What an adventure as always haha. Thanks for taking us along.
Great video, as always. Thank you.
In the US on a 2 hour flight you get junk snacks; in Europe a piece of chocolate if you are lucky. VASP in brazil used to serve a hot meal even on a 1 hour flight. They don't have Shuttle busses to the airport hotels?
I have been to way less dodgy spots and I have still never let my luggage out of my sight ever. You’re a braver man than I.
Nice video brother I am from London
You’re a very respectful person Noel, Aleyküm selam. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Hi Noel, last time I was at this airport in 2012 I had a similar if not worse ordeal because they had introduced a last minute airport tax lol, I feel for you.
Noel finding his bag and hotel was like treasure hunt with anneka rice 😉👍🏴🏴
😂
Wow what a trip, pleased you eventually found the hotel
Tipping in the bathroom happened to me at Colombo airport in Sri Lanka in the lounge around 5 years ago.
You're Texan now, it's called a bag of chips! 😂
Hard to believe that Noel did not research this ahead of time as he is one of the most experienced travelers the world.
But it makes for much more compelling viewing, I was on the edge of my seat there for almost half-a-second.
I got lost trying to get to that hotel and ended up taking a cab.
Those check in desks remind me of Heathrow Terminal 4 back in the 1980s. Shape, colour, everything.
20 years ago, Tyrolean Airlines had a lovely full service dinner on the
It's definitely all quite bizarre, but it makes great viewing.
