When you need a part or tool now, no amount of Amazon Prime is going to help. To be fair, DIY are not asking Autozone clerks for help. They go in knowing what they need. The free loaner tools is the biggest advantage of Autozone. On the flip side, Amazon could break into this market by buying RockAuto and improve the search.
You know Amazon Prime is starting to deliver more and more products within an hour or two, right? I needed to replace my garbage disposal the other day and I noticed Amazon had "same day" delivery as an option. I placed the order at 10:00am and it was on my front porch when I got back from lunch. I'm about 2 hours from the closest major city too. I hate Amazon and everything they stand for, but man are they convenient. They're only going to continue improving their logistics and I wouldn't be surprised to see them offering auto parts in an hour or less, or buying an existing auto parts chain just to try to take over that business too.
Amazon has prime now get your part within a hour (not everywhere yet). Most people have the option for next day with prime for free. As for tools you can rent tools locally at parts store free without buying the part. I do it once in awhile and return for my money back.
Go to Car Parts Warehouse, if you know what you're doing, or whatever the local warehouse distributor in your city is, and get the part for half of what Autozone will charge you. And it's literally the same part in a different box...
Last week I ordered a garbage disposal from Amazon at 10:00am and they offered "same day" delivery. It was on my front porch when I got back from picking up lunch. I can think of 100 reasons not to buy auto parts from Amazon, but regarding the shipping time, they already offer a ton of items delivered to your home within an hour or two. I worked at an AutoZone warehouse. We had a store by the entrance. Some business would buy parts there even though other stores (maybe from other dealers) were closer because if the store did not have an item in stock, then they could probably get it from the warehouse in about an hour instead of a day or two. They were not a hub or mega hub, but they did not need to be with a major warehouse in their back yard.
On the other hand, the warehouse work was highly repetitive. With some changes in packaging, etc, I could see how many of our jobs could be automated with robotic warehousing, like at Amazon.
Well hold on there, some mods are available that can be worth it.. Elderbrock is one of em. Lighting is technically a mod... Not to mention all parts that can be replaced when oe parts are discontinued, like throttle cable bracket on 69 Chevy.....

This was a good editorial. Especially in times like these where the online stores are as powerful as they are. I don't usually buy much in a store anymore but food and yes auto parts. This report was appreciated.
I actually use rock auto most of the time. Their shipping is high, but even with that included, prices are much much cheaper for the same brands. I do usually buy consumables like brake pads, rotors and other similar things at autozone purely for the warranty.
Autozone is then taking the playbook of extinct regional chain auto parts : the retail , the warehouse , the jobber , and the two stepper. They ate the independent regional competition alive on pricing wars and are now operating as your traditional regional branded program chain ( Napa , Carquest ). The move from DYers into professional installers probably meant no more stocking just the Chinese junk but also the white label aftermarket stuff. Gotta give to them. They have their stuff together. And they are increasing store count in Brazil. My guess the whole LATAM is fair game.
Me: "Hi Autozone employee, I need this exact part number. Your website said it is in stock and I'm in a huge hurry." Autozone Employee: "What kind of car is it for?"
Same thing has happened to me, a few times. I look up the part number and availability online, but the employee insists on the make and model of my car.
It happens at the dealer too, they are just trying to make sure you're ordering the right one. That's what my dealer told me even though I knew the part number. He told me some people think it's the right one but it's not.
I always go to Autozone. I have bought cheaper parts in other places and they did not last. I bought some parts a bit more expensive in autozone and it still working today.
If you have time to wait, use rockauto. Especially if you need a lot of stuff and can combine shipping. Just rebuild a truck and saved probably 20-30% over autozone.
One reason is when you need to change your water pump or alternator it's typically an I need it yesterday problem. With auto parts, a part of the population likes to get some assistance from the guy behind the counter, and amazons auto parts tools for filtering by car and part are pretty mediocre.
If you are competent to change a water pump, you know you can get it half price, same part, same warranty, same availability at a local warehouse auto parts store...
Can agree for the mediocre part. My car was sold as both a coupe and sedan and certain parts from the coupe don't fit the sedan, but Amazon always has at least one part from the Coupe listed as compatible for my sedan, when it isn't...
Advanced then napa then autozone.. advanced for the ongoing coupons they give you, napa for the always knowledgable staff, then autozone for last resort!
I love this video, I started working as a part delivery driver and got promoted to commercial manager and from there I went to go work for a shop . All this is pretty accurate.

Auto zone is expanding, I live in Mexico and a new store just opened in my city, before I had to drive an hour to the closest auto zone. When you need a part, you need it right now, not from 2-5 days.

I’ve been maintaining my own cars since ‘95. I find I prefer to hold the part in my hand to make sure it is the correct part. Most of the time it is, but when you have a broken car to fix now it makes all the difference. Nowadays I drive two classic Mercedes. They don’t carry many parts for my cars since they’re not that common. Stores have even stopped selling wiper 19” refills (or any size) as everyone has the whole assembly instead of just the rubber. I order online or at the dealer and have no problem other than I have to wait. That’s why it’s great to have the two cars.
min 11:23 - I own an EV for 4 years now. I used to love working on cars and thought I'd try out an EV. My ball joints blew some time back. Autozone couldn't help, but there are many 'specialist' auto parts companies on the web and I got new and better quality joints at a 10th of the price than the dealer's price. As for the rest of the car, literally no maintenance. Not even brake pads. Only tyre replacement. . Think about it for a while: no air filter, no oil filter, no fuel filter, no engine oil, no transmission oil, no fan belt, no timing belt, no alternator, no water pump, no radiator hose, no rusting exhaust. . My car feels as smooth and powerful as the first day I bought it. I don't think I can ever go back to a gas car.
I usually buy everything on amazon but recently needed a car battery that was very unique (big, reversed terminals). Amazon had it on prime but autozone had it in stock locally and $20 less. They even carried it to my car. Hard to believe anyone beats amazon but autozone really does.
Every part I’ve ever gotten off of Amazon didn’t fit my car (even when it said it would) or was a POS. AutoZone has great warranties, the people are helpful and it’s a day of purchase.
Well I bought Duralast rotors for my MDX and it’s shakes like a washer and dryer after 2 months. Guess it gets you into a zone to go back to auto zone.
ROFL had the same exact experience with a rotor from them with a semi frozen caliper. Got a month out of it. Got an AC Delco and it lasted another year until I got rid of the car.
Yall need to make sure your calipers are not sticking. Stuck calipers will transfer pad material when brakes are hot. The result is a higher mu at that point on the rotor and everytime that spot passes the pads it drags which results in a pulse which you feel as vibration.
as a parts salesman at a local dealership, even we use Autozone now as our preferred “aftermarket” parts supplier. sometimes those used car jobs need a last minute ball joint or brake pads, the “Hub” near us delivers parts within the hour guaranteed... AND the Duralast brand parts come with their own parts warranty, often times equal to if not better than the OEM equivalent parts...
As a shop owner, I use Auto Zone versus Amazon and RockAuto, because their warranty also covers my employees' labor hours on part defects. More often than not, labor is going to be more costly than the part being installed. I can't charge the customer twice the labor because the part that was first installed had an immediate defect. So if there was only a warranty on the part itself, that part would've actually cost me more money in labor hours than I'd be able(or willing)to charge the customer. There's a bunch of other benefits that come with using Autozone as well. Also, I don't markup(charge list) price for parts. Most shops pay the same price for parts that you'd pay yourself.
Rock Auto is your friend. You can't go wrong if you put the correct information in about your car. I order from them all the time and never had a problem. I just ordered a new alternator for half the price the auto store was selling for a remanufactured one.
1) Most customers need parts Right NOW, not in 3 to 5 business days. 2) People like to smell the air fresheners before they buy them. 3) There will always be a need for brick and mortar auto parts stores as long as batteries, alternators, head/tail light bulbs and fuses continue to fail without warning. 4) I don't think I've ever received a "detailed or highly specific" answer to any question posed to an AutoZone employee. 5) Where else would these youngsters get their Spectre Cold Air Intakes, stick-on hood scoops and pleather seat covers from? 6) If Amazon was seriously trying to enter the "Auto Parts" game, all they would have to do is send a blank check to Rock Auto.
No fake plugs won't mess your car up, unless you're racing. The plugs aren't fake. Just for a different market. I run champion plugs in my stage 3 Audi, cheapest plugs, and it's recommend to use ngk. My car spits flames and all no problems
Shout out to O' Reilly in South Memphis, tn. I went to 9 different part stores for a $60 Pulse Modulator. Nobody had it in stock. GM wanted to charge $180 for it.
RockAuto is the bees knees. Same parts for $230 at RA vs $350 at O or AZ.
Amazon prime is delivering same day these days
Robby but that’s mostly all major cities where it’s feasible to deliver within that same day. Even places like Napa will deliver the parts same day.

They're an evil corporation that is willing to lose money just to put entire industries out of business and I wouldn't buy stock in any brick and mortar retailer as long as Bezos is trying to take over the world.
I tried getting brake pads at Amazon. 3 orders and 2 returns later. I still don't have the right product. Needless to say I got my pads at AutoZone
CentralJA Some of the Autozone Duralast Gold or Platinum brake pads come with a lifetime warranty too.
Rock Auto...
@@SalivatingSteve They all come with lifetime warranties, but are you really going to keep your car long enough to change the brakes yourself twice? Are you going to remember you have the lifetime warranty with Autozone? Most people don't, in which case, again, Rock Auto.
And paid 50% more because you're to lazy to get a cheap local mechanic to advise you.
Look before you order. pay attention to what fits your vehicle. as someone who works on cars myself. i just order from amazon because its like half the cost for same parts. For example my rear rotors are 79.99 each at Autozone. Amazon had both sets with the brakes for 89.99.

Advance auto has better prices, but Autozone has a bigger selection of parts.
Bigger selection of junk that you'll replace over and over.
I've had quality issues with AutoZone parts.

Autozone is such a ripoff store. Advance is much better, great coupons.
Warped rotors are usually caused by people not using a torque wrench when tightening the wheels. Uneven torque on the lugs causes the rotors to warp.
Sounds like you didnt change your hardware along with your rotors. Calipers sticking? Unfortunate.
as a parts salesman at a local dealership, even we use Autozone now as our preferred “aftermarket” parts supplier. sometimes those used car jobs need a last minute ball joint or brake pads, the “Hub” near us delivers parts within the hour guaranteed...
Amazon is also know to send knock off parts when you order off them. At least at autozone i know what I'm getting

Free Battery Checks. Free Used Oil Recycling.
Lmao its weslaco and he pronounced it welasco 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just as said "IF ITS RAINING U WANT YOUR WIPERS FIXED NOW"
And you cant wait for Next Day delivery THATS THE ANSWER!!!!
A lot of counterfeit parts too, just search in youtube how some amazon sellers sell fake spark plugs 😔. That will mess up your car 😤!
Then I went across state lines and eventually found what I needed. All in all 8 hours of looking and an hour to put the thing on. And i just recently bought the top of the line alternator for my truck
@5:15 Oh Danny, you look so handsome in your big boy suit. Daddy and me are so proud of our little man! Keep it up!
