  • A 2 hour video of the 19 point essay "Tithing is Not a Christian Doctrine" The video is showing me, Russell Earl Kelly, Ph. D. with no material displayed. Every statement has something important and challenging. Novice editing makes it choppy in a few places. It is far from perfect but well worth the view.
Friends, I am not opposed to financially supporting churches and the advancement of God's kingdom. However I am opposed to supporting churches using the false doctrine of NT tithing instead of better New Covenant freewill offering principles.
You can get this video on DVD from my website:
    www.tithing-rus...
There you can also find the book:
Tithing: Should the Church teach tithing? - A Theologian's Conclusions about a Taboo Doctrine
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you,

Only Jesus can open your your eyes to the lie of tithing!
I was in a cult (church) that pushed tithing to the point of persecution ! If that is happening to you. My advice is get out of there !!!
Thank you for this message ❤

Mr. Kelly for twenty years I've researched this subject, I want to thank you because finally you validated my assumptions. You sir did this by factual scripture and I cannot thank you enough! God bless you for all your hard work. The greed of the priest in the church today has caused so many to turn away from Christ. You and your thesis and video I believe will ultimately save souls. If I could I would give you an award equivalent to a Pulitzer. Well done sir!

Everybody these points are not fair. U can give tithe not under obligation but under love. Sure we shouldnt focus on tithe more than intimacy with God and worship but tithe for the same reason u pray...because u love God.

We still have an obligation to the congregation financially, but we are not expected to give a certain amount. It is voluntary and not based on tithing.

Thank you Mr. Kelly...I'm a born again believer and practiced tithing for over 15 years ....I was sincere and really wanted to know the truth and with much late night prayers with tears I ask the Lord to show me the truth, and what the Holy Spirit led me to is the revelation of the finished work of Jesus Christ and in him all the requirements to be blessed is faith and trust in him....He is the total fulfillment of all that is required of God...I no longer tithe but give generously to the poor, needy orphans, widows and missionaries....I have never been more happy and God has blessed me abundantly it is impossible for me to be cursed because I'm a member of Jesus body who is seated in the Heavenly places far above every dominion, power and any word. Thanks again and my friend and I did read your book on Should the Church teach tithing? wonderful expose of the truth.

Jonathan Ray You must be a Pastor,. You know that you can not add are subtract turn from the right are left from God's word. So if you want to add are subtract from the word that is up to you.
Malachi 1: tells us how they Rob God in tithes and offerings.
Deut 17 blemished sick lame animals is a abomination to God. That is why in Malachi 3 it says they Rob God.
First you stay that all the laws was nailed to the cross,we are not under law, then turn around and say that we have 9 commandments out of 10, then we are under the law of Christ , only 2 commandments love God and love neighbor, then say Jesus became a curse for us,
Then in the same breath say we are cursed with a curse from Malachi 3:. Make up your mind either preach no more laws, which is Lawlessness, Lawless, are teach God's laws like Jesus said to observe and do in Matthew 23:

Jonathan Ray In Genesis do you see the Ten commandments???
Gen 4: God told Cain that sin lies at the door and desire for you,#6 then he Murdered Abel.
      Noah cursed Ham#5 for dishonor,
Jacob buries images of gods of gold. #2 Joseph#7 said adultery is wicked sin.
Genesis 7:2 God told Noah to take the clean animals by sevens (7) and the unclean animals by twos (2).
Gen26:5 Abraham kept all laws statues charge and commandments of God.
Sounds like the Commandments and laws of God..

I was a lazy Christian and wholeheartedly swallowed what I was told, We have a responsibility to search the scriptures for ourselves. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. I no longer pay protection money to God to make sure my car doesn't breakdown, or my water pipes don't burst, but I give out of a thankful heart to help further the gospel, and to benefit those less fortunate than me.

I believe this is one of the most thorough videos on the error of "Christian tithing" that I've seen. Anyone who claims that they are "tithers" who watches this video, and still tries to defend that unscriptural practice, cannot rid themselves of the same pride and self-righteousness that the Pharisee exhibited in Matthew 23. Sadly, not one "tither" can counter anything that is spoken in this video with rightly divided scripture, but can only spout anecdotes and platitudes that they were brainwashed to believe by their pastors, or by greedy and corrupt televangelists who profit from "Christian tithing."

    • @deejay8403
      @deejay8403 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

***** Sadly, so many deceived "tithers" love to quote Hebrews 7, but have such a limited understanding of what is actually being explained in that chapter. It is not a validation of "tithing," It is telling us that CHRIST is now our High Priest, and that the Levitical priesthood-BECAUSE of Christ-is no longer needed, and therefore, TITHES are no longer mandated. Christians are to give WILLINGLY, not of necessity. It's so sad that so many "tithers" are ignorant of this fact. Your blindness of "mandatory Christian tithing" does not allow you to comprehend the facts expressed in this video, and therefore, I will not keep going back and forth trying to open your eyes...that can only be done by God. Keep "tithing" if you think it's mandated. But don't make weak comments that you can't back up with PROPERLY INTERPRETED scripture, and try to convince those who truly understand what tithing is and what tithing is NOT. Thanks for your response to my comment.

This teaching is an eye opener - ministers / preachers who continue to teach tithing have done more to separate people from Christ than the enemy ever could. It is embarrassing and heartbreaking to see this manipulation on God's people - All Americans pay taxes (whether poor or rich) whenever we purchase any item - these taxes along with income tax provides for all - medical - food - housing - etc. that churches do not provide for - the church continue to build monuments unto themselves and send members to social programs for help - they say you live on 90% after giving your 10th to them they forget about the 20-30% taxes that are taken for the good of all (including roads, schools, military, etc.) We should support churches that are focusing on the great commission - not support prosperity for the few

I agree. Those teaching tithe for Christians are really teaching heresy.
2 Cor 9:6-7 instructs Christians on giving (which is completely different from tithing
"whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. (Matthew 7:15)
In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. (2 Peter 2:3)
do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)
If you want to give to God, help the poor.
The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' (Matthew 25:40)

Tithing is not even necessary in modern day church's. Jesus sent disciples on mission to heal, raise from dead, cast out demons and spread message "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." Jesus instructed them "do not take Gold, Silver, Coin or two shirts." This enlightens me to believe that the ministries of God should be free. Ministers of God should take only ONE clean shirt to REPLACE their dirty shirt. Serving God is a life of humility and not prosperity.

Last year a very small percentage of my Church tithed their required 10% and we were able to send thousands of students on a mission trip, deliver over 1500 pairs of shoes to elementary students, a trip to deliver the word of God in Kenya, give backpacks with school supplies to several local schools. This was just a small percentage of the congregation tithing regularly. Can you imagine what God's Church could do if everyone gave their 10% as is required! You cannot out give God if we remember to return to him what is His to begin with!

    • @jameswhite6266
      @jameswhite6266 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Lindsey Copeland those are wonderful things your church has done for people. All of the things your church did were the decisions from your congregations heart. Tithing is not required. Giving offerings to a church does not have to be called a tithe. Tithing is definetly what Israelites were commanded to do before Jesus. I think since Jesus tithing is another thing abolished because all sins are now covered by his blood and not real lambs blood. Our money can still be offered up to do God's will but its not required to go into an offering plate at the rate of ten percent.

Hi Yvette 1561, Jesus said: the Love of Money is the root of all evil. Look at Jesse Duplantis and his preaching on money and jokes about having so much money. How does he really get that money? He is just blessed by God because he is doing the right things by God? :) While we keep buying the lottery tickets hoping to get rich. Money is not even real. LOL. We are all slaves. What ever your race is if you are working for the employer you are a slave and he Loves money. Work was never suppose to be this complicated. Food, Water, Clothing and shelter keeps us living and if we ate non- processed food, but, food grown naturally and prepared properly we would not need medical insurance. :) Before Money we bartered for something we needed that we could not produce on our own. Money just made it simpler to get what you need from someone that didn't need what you produced. It was a good system but greed took over. :)

For those who are still keeping up with this thread I would ask two things so you can be taken seriously. 1.- Do not take single scripture taken out of context to support your argument. Scripture supports scripture. 2. As a Christian it is your responsibility to learn the Word. This does not mean sitting in a sermon and taking what is taught at face value. 2 Tim 2:15- Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Once you have obtained this skill then you can begin to apply 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The obligation to tithe (i.e., to give 10% of one’s gross income) was binding only on the Jews. Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic law (Matt. 5:17), so even Jews are no longer bound by it. But this doesn’t mean we’re not obligated to support the Church-we are-but there is no longer a specific percentage required. There is no mandatory requirement to give a specific amount of money or percentage of our income. We should each decide for ourselves how much to give and then do so in the true spirit of giving a gift.

That scripture says Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
      Matthew 5:17-19 KJV
Now if he said he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it, meaning to carry it out, then how can you say you are no longer to keep it when the law he was referring to was the law given to Moses to give to the people from the most high Yahwah because what many call the new testament didn't even exist when he was alive. All his people knew and lived by was the torah(the law). Plus you said not even "Jews" are bound by it. The messiah was a hebrew himself and considering he was that means he would've walked according to the law which was the custom of his people. He said don't even break the least of the law.
“Would a man rob Elohim? Yet you are robbing Me! But you said, ‘In what have we robbed You?’ In the tithe and the offering! “You have cursed Me with a curse, for you are robbing Me, this nation, all of it! “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, and let there be food in My house. And please prove Me in this,” said יהוה of hosts, “whether I do not open for you the windows of the heavens, and shall pour out for you boundless blessing!
      Malachi 3:8-10 ISR98
      bible.com/316/mal.3.8-10.ISR98
It's time to do away with the lies. Have a blessed day! Know that the most high loves you. That is why he sent his son Yahwasha for you. If you love him abide in his truth. They that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
“Yahwah is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth.”
      John 4:24

First of all my friend we cannot evaluate this from a english perspective for we must look at what was being spoken at the time and the original book in the language of the Hebrews. The word commandments is the word Mitsbah which means commands, statue, commandments. The word used for what we now read "law" is Torah. The Mitsbahs are the bricks that make up this building called Torah or in other words the Mitsbah is the Torah (the commandments are the law). Now referring to offerings when you observe the righteous progression in scripture you see where in Leviticus animals and grain were used for different offerings then you go on to see in Second Kings chapter 12 that currency was used for offerings. That is why the word says pay tithes of all YOUR increase.
If you farmed vegetables you tithed from what was your increase. If you grew cattle you tithed from what was your increase in cattle. I pray you can see where I'm coming from. We are in a system of currency the same as those of ancient time evolved into a system of currency. Even the heavenly father Yahwah saw progression and told the Israelite army to raid the land and after they collected everything he said the gold and the silver was his and those who understand the purpose of bringing offerings before the most high was that the preist may have for the work they do for him. I pray this helped you see where I'm coming from. Have a blessed day.

There is still a headship in the body of Christ , everyone is not a head , there are different parts of the body. to claim everyone holds the same office is deceiving, and has deceived many. You do not call yourself , and you do not choose yourself , God does both of these things as he pleases.yet there are many that claim to have a place in that 5 fold ministry and God never sent them in or outside of a physical church.

    Question:
you said it's good to give an even possibly give more than 10% if you can as long as it comes from a good heart but my question is, when you talk about giving are you talking about only to the church or wood poor neighbors, foreign missionaries, helping single moms at work etc be just as good as giving two a multi thousand member Church?
I really enjoy helping individuals in need because I know exactly where that money is going versus giving it all to the church to build more baseball fields, gyms and family life centers. I love giving to my church but the majority of my portion goes directly to individuals. I would love to hear your thoughts for clarification. Thank you

Just a thought for those who keep hollering about how everyone is a lawbreaker who doesn't tithe. Just read the first few chapters of Leviticus about sacrifices. No-one on the planet has had any opportunity to keep these laws since 70 AD when the Jerusalem temple was destroyed. The idea of it being obligatory for Christians to keep the Mosaic law just doesn't make any sense. (Thanks for the teaching, by the way.)

The bible does not say don't believe in Aliens. Why should we have to prove something the Bible never tries to prove. Do some investigation. Just tell me what Jesus, Paul and Peter say about tithing. If you want to keep the law about tithing why not keep it all? Trust me you do not want to go back to the law.

Sadly, we listened to the church and tithes faithfully for 30 years! There’s been times I couldn’t pay some bills for paying tithes. In the year 2019, I started watching religious youtube videos to learn about tithes and it made me upset that we fell into this scam. No telling how much retirement we could of had by now and more bills be paid off. We “give” the church about 4% of paycheck and God still blesses us. Stop fearing not paying a tithe. I’m about ready to leave my church after doing more research and seeing how its more of a man made business. My pastor uses money to fix up the church, fellowship hall and parsonage. Its not helping any needy. I guess pastor wants us to give to needy on our own.

LOL My name is in front of YOUR face, and you misspell it, and call my question ignorant… that’s funny! It is improper to call a simple question ignorant when by definition, it is ‘lacking knowledge or awareness in general;’ and/or to ignore ‘refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally.’ For a question itself CANNOT be ignorant. But, it is by ignorance that you say questions ‘lack knowledge’ or disregard intentionally’. It would be more suitable if the answer to questions were deemed ignorant, like YOUR ANSWER to MY QUESTION - starting with MY name, to your ‘intentional disregard’ to a direct answer to my question inside your response. And don’t think you’ve answered my question by responding… So already, you’ve prejudged me for ignorance, by YOUR ignorance because you fail to answer, and yet, avoid a simple question. YOU could’ve saved us both time and not answered at all. LOL
Furthermore, the reason I won’t “listen and study the entire video” because I don’t listen, and study LIES. With that, I might as well listen and study your words. I listened to the video and that’s as far as I go with falsehood. Hence, is the reason I posed my question. Oddly, if you know about studying, the midst of your study will provoke questions with any subject, which makes my question according to the protocol of studying. I hope YOU see the ignorance of your statement by now.
Finally, YOU say, “If/when you ask me your ignorant question again, my answer is still the first sentence here.” Well sir that is fine. The only problem is, your first answer is about the context of the LAW, (Galatians 5.4 you who are trying to be JUSTIFIED BY LAW have been alienated from Christ, you have fallen away from grace.), and NOT THE CONTEXT OF TITHES, which makes Gal. 5:4, which you submitted, completely out of context… again, the incoherency from YOU using the wrong text shows ignorance on your part. Because, I would then have to ask, what do Galatians 5:4 have to do with the TITHES??? But, I can’t ask that, because of your own ignorance, YOU choose to ignore, or fail to coherently answer my first question. So, it wouldn’t make any since to ask another question when YOU ARE incapable of successfully executing the first.
Now… after ALL that’s said, would you like to start over from YOUR pseudo-intellectual discourtesy and outright rudeness, which is by definition, YOUR IGNORANCE? Or, should we STOP HERE, so you can quit wasting my time with vain insults because you don’t have a Biblical answer to my question?

    • @jonathanray3564
      @jonathanray3564 6 ปีที่แล้ว

O, you don’t have to explain to me any pathetic excuses sir. There is an editing option just like you used in your most recent comment that you could’ve used then. In fact, you can yet, still EDIT it at ANY TIME. So, you can say what you want… consciously, you may not have meant it, but you show that subconsciously, you did. “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12). That's like saying you don't mean to insult me, but you're purposely doing it in all your comments.
YOU can continue to say that I’m ignorant, while your words and actions define the term. I’m secure in the fear of Almighty Y’WH’H. You don’t have to reiterate what “he begins stating”, we can see that’s the title. When we move past that point, that’s were my questions start that you or he, are incapable of answering… LIKE, why Mr. Kelly said a lot, and SITED NOT ONE REFERENCE SCRIPTURE/VERSE, nor expounded on precepts? But again, I don’t expect you to answer that because you can’t even answer my first question: avoiding an answer. YOU are disingenuous! And without relationship to God.
FOR 2 HRS., he gave NO EXPLANATION OF (where did it say in the bible NOT to give tithes) ONLY MERE OPINION, NOT BASED ON RESEARCH, BUT LIES on what tithes was and IF ITS PART OF CHRISTIANITY! On the video timeline… at 5:57 he said money is never mentioned as a tithable item in the word of God. LIE! At 4:43 and 5:49 he said the content of the tithe is only food, it is never money. LIE! At 5:11 he mentioned don’t take his word for it. Yet, you have, and is already deceived not by Mr. Kelly’s lies, but by YOUR own deceit, and Mr. Kelly’s lies. At 10:13 he says, “essay point # 4: Abraham’s tithe to Melchezedek in Genesis 14 was PROBABLY (speculative, presumptuous - failing to observe the limits of what is permitted or appropriate; cocky, insolent [like YOU sir]) an example of pagan tradition… of pagan Arab tradition. DEFINITE LIE, BECAUSE ABRAM WASN’T ARAB. At 12:11 he say, Numbers 31 set spoils of war at 1% as a tithe. EVEN MORE A LIE BECAUSE 1) THAT’S NOT IN NUMBERS 31, 2) TITHE LITERALLY MEANS TENTH, OR 10%.
Mr. Kelly literally does not answer my question… on video, or on this forum. How does he answer my question when his whole video is speculative falsehood and who gives no biblical bases for his statements sir… your are incoherent, and hypnotized by his title. THAT IS A JEZEBEL SPIRIT. Which is why you’re are confused. How do YOU claim to obey Prov. 14:7, when you don’t obey Deut. 14:23; Prov. 3:9; Matt. 22:21 ~ let alone Mal. 3:10?
LOL YOU don’t have to bother responding sir… YOU’RE delusional by the illusion of your so-called obedience. REPENT! For the Kingdom is at hand.

    • @jonathanray3564
      @jonathanray3564 6 ปีที่แล้ว

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL WOW…
Ma man, I was trying to help YOU out when I said you don’t HAVE TO respond. It was to STOP you from further making yourself look like a fool from your incoherency while continuing to use scripture out of context with the uttermost irrelevancy. O, and thank you for spelling my name correctly. Intriguingly, YOU have many words to suffice your avoiding subject, context, and question: calling it ignorant. Yet, you are still incapable of answering a simple question with and in Biblical context. I knew from the jump, this was why you began insulting the context of my question because you don’t know how to have simple dialogue like a civil and sound human being. And instead of saying that there is NOWHERE in the Bible that says not to give the tithes, or I don’t know, your even later comeback is, digging up Jeremiah 10:21-23 insignificant to subject, context, or question. People like YOU and Dr. Kelly deceitfully mishandle the scriptures because 1) you, yourself is unlearned on the matter, 2) you are interpreting the scripture without revelation from the Holy Spirit, and 3) you don’t rightly divide the Word of God according to Truth - the Doctrine He laid out for first, His people Israel: especially the “true Jews” = from the West African Coast and indigenous inhabitants of the America’s that are literal descendants of Judah, and secondly, those Gentiles grafted in who became spiritual Israel, both translated today (because of the blood of Christ) as the church. When you Gentiles came to Almighty Y’WH’H, (since you want to emphasize Law) YA’LL were required according to Numbers 15:14 and Leviticus 24:22 to do as we do, according to what God commanded as obedient children. NOT pick certain stipulations in which a thing is done, while ignoring a principle that shows a pattern of consistency via instructions, and because time and conditions change, then say, it IS NOT required because of those particular stipulations, instead of indoctrinating the pattern and consistency as the principle thing. At this point, it is not safe for you to just blurt out scriptures because YOU are displaying signs and patterns of a spiritual dyslexic with a dose of Tourette. Get HELP… by REPENTing for your self-indulgence and disingenuousness in trying to utilize scripture to endorse your false, and wicked beliefs. STOP BEING LED AND DECEIVED BY TITLES.

[Jesus] saw a needy widow drop in two small coins of very little value.-Luke 21:2.
Try to imagine how the widow felt as she entered the temple courtyard carrying her two small coins. Would she be embarrassed at seeing the large donations made by those ahead of her, perhaps wondering whether her offering was really worthwhile? Even if she had such feelings, she still did what she could in behalf of true worship. Jesus showed that both the widow and her contribution were valuable to Jehovah. He said that she “put in more than [the rich] all did.” (Luke 21:3, 4) Her donation would be mixed in with what others gave, yet Jesus singled her out for praise. The treasury workers who later came across those two small coins could hardly have known how precious the coins and their donor were to Jehovah. Still, God’s view was the one that really mattered, not what other people thought or even how the widow viewed herself.

Church is a german word. Ecclesia should have been translated as congregation or assembly. "Church" actually means house of the Lord. It menas an actual place not a people. So church should not be in the bible anywhere. William Tyndale took it out of his translation and was burned at the stake for it. The only way for man and the government to control true followers of Jesus was to make Christianity the religion of the state which Constantine initiated and persecution decreased significantly. Persecution should be happening and when it was there were so many real converts which scared the rulers and kings of this world. They did not like that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It would mean that they would lose their power and control of the people. Jesus died and the curtain was torn. There is absolutely no barrier between us and God now. Beware of the organized church and know the truth of God's word not man-made traditions. Man still wants to control and lord it over others. Read the Bible and if what your preacher or priest does not match up to scripture then flee. Don't be blinded by "church culture". God gave us his Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us that there are many lies and deceptions out there. The truth will set you free indeed! God bless those of you who are keeping your eyes and ears open. Learn His absolute truth from His Word; "the Bible" and go tell everyone you know. It's simple, Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself; period! Don't let the world complicate Jesus's perfect sacrifice and saving grace for all who are thirsty. Amen

abiola owoseni from what I understand in the NT, where two or more gather in my name, there I am in the midst. is written in Mathew 18:20 I take that as anywhere, not necessarily any particular building... possibly it could even be meeting in houses, i belong to a small group of 10 Christians and we meet at one man's house. I consider that church. when i pray at dinner with my family, that is church. Also, in the NT in Philemon 1:2, it states "to the church in thy house" I use to go to a big mega-church where we lost a lot of money not reading the whole bible about tithing.. I learned my lesson the hard way
.No more temples needed in the NT because we are now entered in the priesthood and" the church" is in" your heart" though faith by grace.

This is ph D Gone to seed:
      Phil 3: 18- 20
…18For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. 20For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;…
below is the places where it is Jesus's word.
these are scriptures Jesus to the people and thereby those who are Christ -followers do the same.
      - giving is an attributed and if your trying to find away around it , you've already missed as in the story below.
      OFFERINGS AFTER THE LAW
One of the examples of offerings in the New Testament is the poor widow.
Luke records that as Jesus was sitting by the treasure, He observed the people
casting their gifts into the offering. He watched as the rich men cast in
of their abundance. Then He noticed a poor widow casting in her offering
which was only two mites. The mite was the smallest coin used, and was equivalent
to our penny. Jesus took note of this poor widow's offering. In Jesus' words,
He noted that this poor widow had cast in more than all the rich who had
      given money into the collection:
"And He said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast
in more than they all:" Luke 21:3
Why? Because they had given less then two mites? No! Jesus answered this
      question:
"For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God:
but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had." Luke 21:4
The rich had only given of their abundance. Their gift had cost them nothing.
There was no sacrifice in their giving. Their offering, as Cain's, was not
acceptable before God. The widow's offering cost her all she had, even her
living. She stood righteous before the Lord. God's Word does not inform us
how God blessed this poor widow, but we know He did.
The greatest offering in the New Testament is the offering that Jesus made
for all mankind. Paul spoke of this sacrifice in his letter to the Ephesians:
"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself
for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour." Ephesians
      5:2
Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice in that He gave His life. He provided the
way for all mankind to be forgiven their sin. This was a sweetsmelling savour
that went up before God. God does not require that we give up our physical
life. He desires only that we put our old, carnal, fleshly, selfcentered,
selfserving life to death, so that we may stand before Him righteous and
      acceptable. As Paul proclaimed:
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith
of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20
When we are truly crucified with Christ and allow the anointing to direct
our lives, we, too, are a sweet-smelling savour unto the Lord. We cannot
expect God to bless us as long as we rob Him in tithe and offerings. We must
remember our offerings are not a "have to," as with tithes. Our offering
must be a "want to," to be acceptable and well-pleasing in the sight of God.
God may not require your offering to be as Abraham's, Hannah's, or even the
poor widow's, but our offerings most cost us something to be acceptable in
      the sight of God.
      ALMS GIVING
Alms are the highest form of giving. It is the greatest sacrifice of all
givings. It is giving, not only of our substance, but of ourselves. This
giving opens ourselves up to all the blessings of God. Alms giving is giving
unto the poor who cannot give in return. Any return we receive from alms
giving comes directly from the Lord. Solomon wrote:
"He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which
he hath given will He pay him again." Proverbs 19:17
God becomes our banker. He is aware of our alms giving, and He is our rewarder.
The word alms literally means "to loan to God," and God always
pays back with substantial increase. He is a good banker. Again, God's rewards
do not always have a dollar sign in front of them. We take many of God's
rewards for granted: good health, things not breaking down, children who
love us, a good wife or husband, friends in the time of need and friends
      at all times.
When we are in God's will, His blessings are abundant and His peace rules
in our hearts. His rewards are not always immediate. We may not recognize
many of His rewards because they are not immediate. God may be rewarding
you for something you did two years ago, or maybe five years ago. Solomon
      wrote in Ecclesiastes:
"Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days."
      Ecclesiastes 11:1
When we cast our bread upon the water, it may take many days for it to return
to us, but we have God's guarantee that it will return.
Tithes and offerings were before the law, during the law, and after the law.
We have no particular incidence recorded of alms giving before the law. Although
it has always been God's law that we care for the poor.
      ALMS GIVING DURING THE LAW
When God handed down the law to His people through Moses, He gave definite
      instructions on alms giving:
"If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of
thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not
harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt
open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his
need, in that which he wanteth. Beware that there be not a thought
in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at
hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him
nought; and he cry unto the Lord against thee, and it be sin unto thee. Thou
shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest
unto him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in
all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. For the poor
shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou
shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy,
      in the land." Deuteronomy 15:7-11
God gave Israel definite instructions on how to deal with the poor of their
land. This help never went unnoticed by the Lord, for He promised that He
would bless those who gave alms in all their works and in all things that
they put their hand to do, Deuteronomy 15:10.
      ALMS GIVING AFTER THE LAW
Jesus spoke more about giving alms than He did tithes and offerings:
"Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise
ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou
doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do
in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily
I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not
thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret:
and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly." Matthew
      6:1-4
Jesus informed us that we are to do our alms in secret. We are not to let
our left hand know what our right hand is doing. Our left hand is our receiving
hand and our right hand is our hand of ministry. In other words, we are not
to look at our source before we give alms.
Our source is the Lord Jesus Christ, and He rewards after we give alms, not
before. When we open our right hand in alms giving, that which we do in secret
the Father will reward us openly. Alms giving never goes unnoticed by the
      Father.
When the church was new and vibrant, and the Holy Spirit was moving mightily
amongst His people, alms giving was in abundance. When Peter and John were
going into the temple, there was a beggar sitting at the temple gate begging
      alms.
"And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And
he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them." Acts 3:4-5
Peter did not say, "Look at us". He said, "Look on us." Peter directed the
man's attention to that which had come upon them a short time before, on
the Day of Pentecost. Peter directed the man's attention to the Holy Spirit
who had come as cloven tongues of fire which sat upon each of them, Acts
      2:3. Peter's words were:
". . . Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: in
the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." Acts 3:6
Sometimes those seeking relief from their situations do not need money, they
need a word of encouragement. They may need friendship. They may need a closer
relationship with their God. They may only need to be loved. Peter and John
could not meet this man's need with silver and gold, but they had something
much more important to give to meet his total need.
Alm's giving is not always giving of money, but the giving of one's self.
There is another record in the book of Acts of a woman who was rich in alms
      giving:
"Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by
interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds
      which she did." Acts 9:36
While Peter was dwelling in Lydda, Tabitha, which is called Dorcas, died.
The people sent to Lydda to have Peter come to Joppa:
"Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him
into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing
the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them." Acts
      9:39
The widows (those who had no provider) showed all the coats and garments
that Dorcas (Tabitha) had made so the widows could be warm during the long,
cold nights. Tabitha's alms giving was not necessarily in money, but what
she did for those who could not help themselves. Her reward was not immediate,
but in her time of greatest need:
". . .Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning
him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she
saw Peter, she sat up." Acts 9:40
God raised her from the dead. Why? Because of her alms deeds.
Another man who was rich in alms giving was Cornelius.
"There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of
the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with
all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway."
      Acts 10:1-2
This was a man who gave much alms to the poor. Cornelius was a Roman soldier,
a centurion over 100 men. Rome paid their commanders well. What Cornelius
did, he did in secret, and God rewarded him openly. God appeared to Cornelius
in a vision and instructed him to send to Joppa and bring Peter. God was
about to reward Cornelius so that all the earth would know that God rewards
alms giving. When Peter came he spoke to Cornelius:
"And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in
remembrance in the sight of God." Acts 10:31
God heard Cornelius' prayers, and his alms giving came into remembrance before
Him; and God's reward was at hand. Peter went on to inform Cornelius about
Jesus, His life, His death, and His resurrection:
"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which
      heard the word." Acts 10:44
Cornelius' reward was that he became the first Gentile upon whom the Holy
Ghost fell. Cornelius received the anointing that no Gentile had ever received
before. Many believe Cornelius returned to Rome to start a great work for
God. In Paul's letter to the Romans, he wrote:
"To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to
you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank
my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout
      the whole world." Romans 1:7-8
God had done a great work in Rome, and their faith was spoken of throughout
the whole world. If God used Cornelius to begin this work in Rome, what a
reward for alms giving. There is no higher reward than to be called into
      God's service.
      Jesus spoke to His disciples:
"Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not
old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth,
neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart
      be also." Luke 12:33-34
God judges the thoughts and intents of the heart through His Word. Is our
heart set on receiving our reward from the Father, or is our heart set on
what we can lay up on earth?
      All our giving is before God. Tithes, we must pay; offerings, we should give;
and alms, we ought to do. All that we do, we need to do in the sight of God.
And when we do, He rewards us accordingly.
If it is our desire to invoke God's blessings in our lives, then we must
give all to God, holding nothing back. Everything we are, or want to be,
should bring glory to God. Our giving is no different. If God is going to
open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that we will not be able
to receive, we must give with a willing heart. We need to remember that no
man can outgive God, and that it is He that will make us a blessing to all
      men.

I don't care personally if one gives a penny of a million dollars to the tithe every week ...But.....I do know this...the Lord God almighty uses the tithe to promote the work of His Church and the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.I have seen many miracles in the lives of those who do tithe faithfully...absolute financial miracles that cannot possibly be explained outside of the Lords great blessing ! I also believe that there is a special crown given to all believers in Heaven that have been faithful in the tithe. Friend,You can never outgive God and why would anyone want to store up treasures on this side , to the neglect the storing up of treasures in Glory, where they will last forever ?. No..yoiu can do as you please but for me and my House, we will serve the Lord..Amen
I will soon be 70 and have had many years to prove my position , both tithing and Not tithing..and tithing wins hands down...Peace in the Lord Jesus Christ. db

      AMEN....TRUE STORY...
      HONEST TO GOD TRUE STORY.
I lived pay check to pay check...i use to use a Pay Day Loan place every month for like 5 years. I got paid ONCE A MONTH...then 2 weeks after I got paid I would have to use the Pay Day Loan place. I would borrow $350 an pay back $500 EVERY MONTH FOR YEARS.
THEN one day I started to read the Bible an about Tithing an Seeds. I made $1400 a month. So i took a LEAP OF FAITH. I Vowed to God to give him $200 a month.
The Very next month things started changing....weird things....my finances TURNED AROUND. I NEVER HAD A SAVINGS ACCOUNT BEFORE. IT HAS BEEN 10 MONTHS SINCE THE LAST TIME I HAVE USED A PAY DAY LOAN PLACE....LOL YES TRUE STORY. I EVEN NOW HAVE ABOUT $2000 SAVED UP. I HAVE ALSO STARTED LENDING MONEY INSTEAD OF BORROWING MONEY....
IT IS UNBELIEVABLE...TITHING AN GIVING SEEDS...REALLY REALLY WORKS. TRUST ME. THIS IS A HONEST TO GOD TRUE STORY.
I WAS SO HAPPY THAT I HAD TO TELL SOMEONE.
THAT IS WHY I CAME HERE TO SHARE MY STORY.
GOD SAYS TEST HIM...PAY YOUR TITHES AN SEEDS. AN WATCH HIM WORK...GOD IS REAL!!!!!
I AM A TESTIMANT TO IT. THE BIBLE IS REAL. LOL
THANK YOU GOD. :0) THANK YOU SO MUCH. IT FEELS SO GOOD NOT STRUGGLING EVERY MONTH.

truth hurts I agree that you have to give with a pure heart.Any gifts or tithes given begrudgingly, will not be accepted by the Lord. The scriptures are full of such examples. But I beleive there will be grave consequences at : The Judgement Seat of Christ " fopr any beleiver who has not givin. Also...I beleive that God honors the tithe by providing for our needs.I will soon be 70.I can tell you from first hand experiance that our finances were always stretched and stressed to the max before I used to tithe and were much better after we tithed 10 per cent off the top. We sometimes were blessed from outside sourses that we had not even known existed.!! I also beleive we will see a crown for being faithful in the tithe. Perhaps we may have an extra room in our mansion ?..hihi...But, of course , I will take whatever dwelling place i get !...LOL db

I've seen miracles too, absolute financial miracles that cannot have come possibly from anyone except God!! God is sovereign. He continues to be. He has performed miracles for many who did not tithe, as well as, those who did. Remember: God rains on both the just and the unjust ... the tither and the non-tither. Believe His Word!! All belongs to Him anyway, not just a measly 10%. If He tells you to give 10%, then make sure you give it cheerfully. If He tells you to give 100%, then make sure you give this, cheerfully, as well. Trust God to guide you.

Tithing is another historical item that leads us into a true understanding of the actual faith we possess.
There is a TRUE understanding of the OT. Sure, we can fall back on our denominational teachings, but I
personally believe in eternal life, and that we should utilize this fact that God Himself is leading us
to begin looking at what should become an "eternal relationship" with Him, not disputing over categories.

Scripture clearly tells us that in the last days there will be mockers of Gods word, people denying the truth, those who twist God's word and exchange truth with lie. This video demonstrates this with 100% accuracy. Well done.
Didn't Jesus himself say "give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's"? that's another way of saying tithe so you will be blessed by it. Sorry, I believe what God says rather than what this guy says.

Jesus was made Priest not after a carnal commandment to be a Priest under the Aaronic priesthood to take tithes, but after the power of an endless life (Heb.7:17). Because the Aaronic priesthood was weak; so the law of receiving tithes was weak and of no value it was canceled (Heb.7:18).

    • @TheGatheringPlaceGP
      @TheGatheringPlaceGP 10 ปีที่แล้ว

In the Old Testament the children of Israel gave a Tenth out of their Tithes that they ate at Jerusalem to give to the Levites (Deut.14). The Levites in-turn gave a Tenth out of what they received from Israel to Aaron the Priest (Num.18). This they did four times out of a seven year cycle, but every third and sixth year which was the year of tithing they left the tithe in the gates of their cities so the Levite, the poor, the widow, the stranger, and the fatherless could eat it and be satisfied (Deut.14:28,29). In the seventh year no tithe was given because it was a Sabbatical year of rest, the ground had to lie fallow. Sabbath means rest, Grace is our rest, grace is our sabbath, we do not suppose to work to be justified, grace justifies us.

Russell Kelly is a wonderful teacher on the subject of tithing. He doesn't ramble and he stays on the subject. Another good teacher on tithing is A. Bruce Wells. He rambles a bit but he also brings out some very good points on the false doctrine of tithing. I payed tithes for years to pastors who pocket it for their own personal use. I still believe in the basic teachings of our church, but I stopped tithing, and I'm surprised I haven't been kicked out yet!

Tithing was practiced for 1000's of years. It did not just start in the 1800's. Withholding the tithe brings a curse upon those who withhold it and even upon their whole nation.
    .
Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law but only when we live under his protection. When you depart from his protection you go back under the curse. Withholding the tithe is a departure from what the Bible clearly says we should do.
    .
This teaching of withholding the tithe is bringing a curse upon this nation.

  • @eflint1
    @eflint1 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You have not produced one single scripture to refute what this man is teaching. Furthermore, tithing was worship under a system that God has declared replaced with a new one. Our worship in the New Testament is in "Spirit and truth" per Jesus in John 4.

  • @eflint1
    @eflint1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

It is also not talking about a practice of tithing that is supposed to be in effect permanently, throughout the church age. The phrase “here men that die receive tithes” is not talking about Christian ministers in the church, now or then. It is talking about priests at the temple in Jerusalem. The “he” that is being referred to by the phrase “but there he receiveth them” is Melchizedek, 4000 years ago, not Jesus.

  • @SomeLittleShoe
    @SomeLittleShoe 12 ปีที่แล้ว

No where does the Bible say tithing has ended. But it does say that when the tithe is withheld a curse comes not only on those that withhold the tithe but upon the whole nation.
    .
This poor handling of the Bible to make it say tithing does not apply any more is not only wrongly dividing of the Word of God but it is a most dangerous teaching.

I agree with you. 10 percent is not a requirement I have researched this information as well and for quite sometime. However, pastors have made this such a taboo that people who do not read the bible for themselves are in fear. They truly beleive they will be cursed. However, if they just look at the true living God, Jesus Christ. Jesus, never asked for a dime when he healed and blessed people. When they were asked to bring tithes it was to give to the poor and help the children and old people.

Tithing is mainly mentioned in the old testament because people still need to pay god offering for the sins, but Jesus was mentioned as the lamb of God, which should be replacing the tithing practices in the old testament. However, many other religions give offerings to other Gods too. Most of the protestant churches in the US were mixed with the norse religion, and they still keep some of the traditions. So if you look carefully, you can still see practices of those traditions in Churches.

ill will close with one last statement thats in the NT since i am talking to NT believers, Paul said in Romans chapter 14:4-6 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Continued...

I did a study of my own on the tithe and it is not required by the church. If it were so important then it should have been in the Jerusalem Decree in Acts 15; 22-29 the letter to the Gentile churches, but not one word! This man, Mr. Kelly is telling the truth. The church could give offerings to help the poor. There is no scripture anywhere of the Apostles ever collecting a tithe, even the Apostle Paul worked to support himself and never asked the church for money.

In the new testament the Pharisees tried to trip up Jesus. He was referring to the question about whether Christians should pay taxes. Jesus asked them who's face is on the coin and they said Cesar. He then said, give to Cesar what is Cesar's and give to God what is God's. That is pretty clear. Would you like more scripture. We can start with the poor.

Thank you. I start attending a church two years ago.Since I had no time to make my research on this, and just to show my obedience to God I start tithing, but i spoke to God, " please if this is not your will , may I be stopped by you". Not because I am stingy, but also, who knows how my money will be used. Well,no blessings fall on me, instead I kept loosing big and small money, sudden health issues, relationships broken.. dear people died... doesn't seem I was blessed. And then I tried differently, i just went and gave up money random people who was applying for food stamps. Right after that , my boss gave me a tips 3 times more than i gave. that never before happened to me. Conclusion - giving is Biblical, but responcively.

Very thorough in breaking down the scriptures and giving bible meaning and definition to many of the words in context. Nothing hidden, no agenda or motive. Just pure truth that anyone searching should be able to find. Thank you so much. I will still need another week or two of complete study to fully digest everything.
I have been tithing ovet 20 years but never studied for myself!
    Thank you again.

LOL.Actually,in 1 verse.Hebrews7:5 alone proves the 10% tithe false for Christians. It says that the Levitical priesthood was commanded to take tithes of the people "according to the law." That proves 1)the tithe is for those under the law and 2) it was only lawful for a priest from the tribe of Levi through Aaron to accept the tithe.
    1)Christians aren't under the law
2)Even if we were under the law, our pastors are not from the tribe of Levi(through Aaron) and therefor they can't accept tithes

I agree with you and think that there is another historical & political element to the tithing issue. Notice that 17th & 18th century hymns of the Reformation era are all on the message of GRACE and not works or law. Tithing is related to the preaching of law and a works doctrine. Have you noticed that law/works doctrine came into the churches during the evangelical period after the States' War? I noticed years ago that it is very apparent in the hymn texts from that era beginning in the mid-late 1800's. Also, the 1820's were moving toward that period when Andrew Jackson fought the bankers' attempts to implement debt/fiat in the U.S. I have believed for many years that those events are all related. The Baptist Hymnal with which I grew up is where I began to notice the differences in the texts depending on their era. Thank you for your video, I appreciate your research and think that you are correct. If we make a law out of giving, then it isn't blessed.

Tithing has its benifits example: Deuteronomy 14:29 so that the Levites(those who preach the gospel full time) (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless(Orphans) and the widows(lonely woman in need) who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. Its not the bibles fault others have missed used it, the doesnt mean its an "anti christian doctrine" Godbless!!!

Apt and factual. Let’s all be like the Berean’s who studied the scriptures to validate what they were being taught. When Jesus said on the cross that it is finished, it was indeed FINISHED! We will continue to help the needy and not fund greedy and selfish ‘pastors’ who trump the tithe card to enrich themselves at the detriment of the poor

Great teaching. If you need more confirmation that the doctrine of tithing is not Christian, studying the origin of the tithing doctrine in the new covenant. You will discover that the early church did not teach or practice tithing. As a matter of fact, the tithing doctrine wasn’t introduced into Christendom until over 300 years after the ascension of Christ, by the Catholic Church. “ You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”

NOBOX7 and every one of those versus which mention tithes are before the cross, hence before the new covenant.
No where in any writings directed to the church, is tithing mention or commanded. You can not pick parts of the law you want to lay upon people and leave the rest out! That is what the judizers did with circumcision and Paul rebuked them sharply. No doubt Paul would do the same to these preachers today.
I assume that you are a pastor because of your passion for tithing. If pastors would teach the New Testament principle of giving, then I believe that they would fair better anyways.
My church teaches that people are cursed if they do not tithe, and still yet 70% of the members do not tithe. I do tithe because my wife has yet to come to the truth in this matter, but when she does we are switching over to freedom giving.

    Question, Dr. Kelly;
In one instance u make the case that Melchizedek was most likely a secular priest that Abram was familiar with, given his history and the culture he came from and then later in your treatise, you cite the Hebrews passage and state that Christ is a priest forever ‘according to the order of Melchizedek.’ This is a bit of a contradiction. Was/is our high priest according to a secular, idol worshipping priest?

    • @markb7067
      @markb7067 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the point Dr. Kelly is making is that Jesus was not in the order of the Levitical Priesthood and neither was Melchizedek. Under Mosaic Law, only those from the tribe of Levi could be a Priest.

I belong to a Bible believing Bible teaching Church. If everybody had to stop tithing, my local church as it stands would fade away. My church has got me through hard times, as it does for others in the community and congregation. I think it would be very sad to lose my local church, and my church family. Simply contributing towards it's finances that keep staff in place and outreaches going seems like a small price to pay. If the Bible does indeed say I do not need to tythe, I would do it anyway not out of legalism but because the church is dear to me.

The tithing they practice now could be the tradition the kept from Odin worship. Odin religion also performs a kind of baptism aiming for self improvement instead of salvation, and we can still see this kind of baptism being practiced in many churches, especially the Mormon church. The tithing they practice today includes money worship, which is also related to Odin worship, because Odin is also the god of wealth and prosperity, which often being mistaken as Mercury.
