    Great dismantling aid vid - thanks! For everyone thinking of doing this remember, as ALL the instructions in manuals and TH-cam say : YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW HUB UNIT.
    The only improvement I would make (and I may) is to show the location of all the trim retaining pins/clips for each bit removed. That way us noobs know where to apply those trim tools effectively. Great video - good perseverance, don't forget to tie back those unused connectors and remove your SD Navigation card from the old unit (if you have one) - Cheers!

    Great video. Thanks for the info. Inspired me to change out mine. However, it is easy to remove the face plate of the old USB unit (more recent video) which does save alot of time ripping up the center console. But hats off to you and your effort. Great information.

    Thanks. I also have the 2016 and have this module waiting to be installed. I saw another video where the guy drills out the tabs to avoid taking off the center console but I rather not go that route. This video should help.

    • @GearGadgetExperiments
      @GearGadgetExperiments  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually thought destroying the old one too. I just was not confident that I would not break the dash frame around the old module. Turns out, taking things apart is not that bad once you know where the pins and screws are.

    • @Being_Joe
      @Being_Joe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GearGadgetExperiments Thanks again. Finally banged out the Carplay upgrade. Took me about two hours because I take my time and I was trying to avoid taking out the center console. Just a note for anyone doing this, taking out the center console is really not that much work and makes is much easier so just go for it. Also you gain some extra work space if you pull out the glove box, and while you are there you can change or clean your cabin air filter. One thing I am not sure about but I moved the navigation SD card over to the new modules and I no longer have access to the built in maps. Even though I was using my phone for navigation I still liked that I had access to maps as a backup. I am not sure if the SD card was tied to the old module (I think they may be) or if you lose the ability to have mapr period. I may order a off market SD card and see if I have access again.
      But yeah, to anyone reading just take the entire thing off, and be careful, I dropped the 10mm bolt and will have to go in at some point to either recover and or replace the bolt, but everything did snap in.

      @@smoothy569 "Mazda CarPlay/Android Auto Install Hack" the guy drills through the stock unit to break off tabs. To be honest taking off the entire center console is not that hard and really does not take that much time. I now have the stock USB box sitting in a box just in case I everneed to swap it back in. The only regret I have is beeing too lazy to go find my magnetic wand to put the 10mm screw back in the end (but it really has not ben a problem).

    Followed this video to the letter! Thank you! Worked a treat although there were a couple of heart racing moments once I had completed it. The screen came up with a Hybrid System Malfunction error which had me sweating bullets, but little bit of system down time reset things and we were all good again. Until...I went to put it in reverse and the camera wouldn't work! Holding mute+NAV+back forced the infotainment system to do a hard reboot which solved that issue too. Only other issue that I can't seem to find a fix for is that the touchscreen doesn't work when using Android Auto (I don't have an iPhone to see if Carplay is the same). Anyone else have that issue? Is that just the way it is, or have I missed a setting somewhere? Touchscreen works fine outside of AA.

    • @GearGadgetExperiments

      @michaelrowse4217 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GearGadgetExperiments Yeah, the default system from Mazda works while parked and driving at less than 5km/h but even when parked, AA doesn't have touchscreen functionality. Looks like it's just the way Mazda Connect and AA speak to each other, and from I've just been reading, both parties are pointing the finger at the other saying it's their fault. Maybe a firmware update will address the issue in the future. Thanks again for the tutorial video.

      I found it with this video! Just did the upgrade in my 2015 Mazda 3, no issue. th-cam.com/video/dKS3WpcxIYo/w-d-xo.html

    Couldn’t you just update the firmware to the latest and it add Apple CarPlay and Android auto? I think there’s a couple videos on TH-cam on how to do this. No need for installations

      it does seem harder than it should be. But, it is worth the effort to get CarPlay.

    All that work? 😢 sigh just for an infotainment system.

    leave the screen alone and drive. thats what your there for. distracted drivers are the number one cause for crashes today.
