Hey, film it all 🙌 looks like a dream! I've got a custom motorbike and sidecar so I'd be interested in your bike build too. I'm only 15mins in so will have to come back later to watch the rest. I'll see if I can send some subs over 😉
Thanks for the recommendation on this one, Aiden. I’ve already subbed to the channel, looking forward to seeing this one come to life! The creek/landscape is beautiful!
Love the creek on your property. I especially like the rock waterfall in the shape of a heart! Lovely piece of land you have. Congratulations, a lot of work ahead but with time and love I’m excited to watch your progress. 😊
How easy/difficult was it to get permission to live on the land .. ive heard it can be a nightmare depending on local council and you are in my search area for land .. any tips would be appreciated .. loving the videos
Thanks! I am actually doing a series on the planning permission th-cam.com/video/EC-LLs5FU_s/w-d-xo.html It is a challenge getting planning permission but if you really want to make it happen then it can be done. You just have to know the rules the planners set out and make sure you follow them. Applying for pre-planning advice and making sure you choose a suitable plot that is likely to have planning approved always helps
I'm fascinated to see how your work goes - your land looks idyllic. This is right up my street and commend you and your family for taking the plunge. Would love to do something similar when my kids are a little older - can't wait to see more!
Good luck! We relocated to Scotland about a year ago and are renovating a derelict blacksmith workshop, it's hard work to get any help so you'll find yourself learning how to do all sorts! 🙈
Wow that sounds amazing! I'll bet it will have such character once its done. One of the things I was looking forward to was building a small forge and having a go at blacksmithing.
I can't believe I haven't found this goldmine earlier, excited to get stuck into your off-grid content. I'm hoping to start a similar adventure in the next few years so great to watch your experiences. Have you utilized the 1000 huts planning policy at all?

Thank you very much. We are close to the stream and there is a big waterfall just before us so I think its hard for fish to get up to our bit but I have seen the odd small fish but nothing to write home about (although we mentioned on our 1 year update we are going to be trying to farm trout in a pond we will be digging)
Great video and love what your doing, wish i had the means to live like this, hopefully one day i can. Keep up the clips as i and many others will find this very useful, Good luck to you and all that you do.. 🙂👍 P.S, Dont leave it too long for the next episode.. 😉
Hey, Im interested in doing something similar. Pulling my hair out trying to understand planning laws and how easy it is to do this. What's been your experience?
We chose the land because it had planning permission already (although we are going to change it) but planning is a massive topic to cover. I will be sharing my journey with the planning here when we get to it but it doesnt differ all that much from Englands planning laws

Looks like a wonderful place to raise your family! Really nice to have a stream nearby. Thought i saw a trout in the pool you took the underwater shot.
Good luck pal! I’m going to do the same how did you find your land ? Me and my missus come up looking at plots and land at least once a month if you need some help let me know.
I am planning something like a food forrest although probably not as abundant as others might be able to achieve in warmer countries. We are planning a fair sized orchard though
Robert ❤ you mentioned this to us, but I never how quick it would happen. Me and amy will be more than happy to offer our plastering services, and any thing else you may need us to do...😊
Hi, thank you very much. No the road is a proper two lane road. It is used by logging lorries and therefore is fairly good and wide. We are in Scotland
@@beyondtheworkbench In Scotland, the "right to roam" is enshrined in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. This legislation grants the public broad access rights to most land and inland water for recreational, educational, and certain other purposes, provided they do so responsibly. However, landowners also have certain responsibilities and rights under this law. Below are the key guidelines for landowners: ### 1. **Respecting Access Rights** - Landowners must respect the public’s right to access their land for recreation, education, or to move from one place to another. - They should avoid any actions or signage that might deter or mislead the public about their rights of access. ### 2. **Managing Land Responsibly** - Land management activities (e.g., farming, forestry, or construction) should be conducted in a way that doesn’t unreasonably obstruct access rights. - If certain activities could pose a danger (e.g., pesticide spraying, tree felling), landowners should take temporary measures to restrict access and provide clear information about these restrictions, including timescales. ### 3. **Signage and Barriers** - Signs and notices should provide accurate and helpful information. Misleading signs that suggest access is not allowed where it is should be avoided. - Physical barriers such as fences and gates should be managed so that they do not obstruct access. Where possible, gates should be easy to open and close or equipped with self-closing mechanisms. ### 4. **Temporary Exclusion Areas** - Landowners can apply to the local authority for temporary exclusion orders to restrict access during specific activities or events where public safety might be at risk. - Temporary diversions can also be arranged if necessary, but these should be well-signposted and communicated. ### 5. **Privacy and Security** - Access rights do not extend to gardens, houses, and buildings, or to land immediately adjacent to them where privacy would be expected (the "curtilage"). - Landowners can expect their privacy to be respected, and any conflicts should be reported to the local authority or the police if necessary. ### 6. **Engaging with the Public** - Engaging with the public in a positive manner can help manage and reduce potential conflicts. Providing clear information, such as on noticeboards or through local access forums, can be beneficial. - Landowners are encouraged to participate in local access forums to discuss and resolve issues related to access rights. ### 7. **Dealing with Issues** - If there are issues with irresponsible access (e.g., littering, disturbance to livestock), landowners can report these to the local authority or police. - Landowners are also encouraged to seek guidance from local authorities on managing access and resolving disputes. ### 8. **Understanding Your Rights** - Landowners have the right to enjoy their land and manage it as they see fit within the boundaries of the law. They can take action against individuals who cause damage or engage in criminal behavior on their property.

Lots of alder - a tree that loves damp conditions. Also some rowan and birch.
I have since found a single oak which means lots of acorn collecting so we can have a few more

We bought it with planning already on it for a house (one of the reasons we chose this land)

Just connect to the grid generate solar power and sell it back to the grid and they pay you for your power. We do that in Australia.
