a phrase i was taught by a specialist i saw was that “70% of your effort is more than enough” because 100% is overworking and leading to burnout. it saved me a lot of mental anguish when i realised i wasn’t working to my fullest, i was overextending myself in a way that wasn’t serving ME in the first place. i still journal this to myself every so often
Immediately wrote this down! I really need to hear this sometimes because I have a tendency of expecting a consistent 100% of myself which is not healthy...

My favorite is definitely “if it were easy, everybody would do it.” This quote has saved me so many times. It’s something i’m constantly reminding myself
"What if = fear; even if = faith" I like this quote because it always puts my worries into perspective and instead of spiraling into what if what if what if, I say 'even if x happens, I will be fine.' It has helped my anxiety levels soooo much when I get overwhelmed with school!
I like “no one is me, and that is my power”. It can be applied to anything in life! We all have unique talents and perspectives we bring to everything we do 😊

When I first started the program there was a lot of self-doubt & comparison in me seeing some of my peers excel in areas where I felt weak. I'm a 4th year PsyD student and I always tell myself "I am growing today." I learn something new every day in class and in my clinical work, and so even on days when I make a mistake or feel like something didn't go well that phrase is a great reminder that I am growing through every experience! Even those days when I feel imposter syndrome I can remind myself that learning is a process and that every experience I have contributes to my growth in some way.
I love that one! I used to say "ready to work, ready to learn" in my head every single day as I would walk up the steps into high school! Kept me driven and focused!
I tell myself all the time "You got this!" I'll say it out loud when I'm on runs, before something I'm really nervous about, and definitely to hype myself up for something I'm trying for the first time. I also love the phrase Em Carey says frequently; "If you can, you must." It reminds me that every time I'm questioning what I'm capable of doing and if I should do a certain something even though I'm nervous, I should try it. You never know what could happen by going for the things that scare you! Love you Kiara! This is my first semester of nursing school and I love seeing your vlogs about life right now. Keep going!!
My mottos, that I used during school and say to myself through my work life are: "small steps to a big goal" "not every day is a festival" (=when something doesn't go the way I want or I messed up, well that happens to everybody, that's normal) "experience makes a master"
I'm starting nursing school next semester and am SO nervous (and also excited), but something I will start to live by that someone in the nursing program told me was that now that I'm in the program, I only need to pass. I don't have to worry about getting all A's because I will be getting paid the same amount of money as everyone else in the end. I just need to learn the material, but not get upset by a bad test grade here and there, and that has helped me not feel so anxious going into the program.
You have always had a knack for making your busiest weeks look somehow organized and put together. Wish I could do that 🤣🤣. Anyways, it is really wholesome watching you do nursing things. In my country, nurses do not really have to go to college and then nursing school but it is really nice to see that this job that many probably do not appreciate enough takes so much effort and time. Teaches you to really be grateful for our medical personnel because you guys really give it your all!

When I was in high school I really struggled with my perfectionism and my need to make sure that everything was just so. During my junior or senior year, I finally figured out that NOTHING is perfect, so I starting telling myself "Practice makes PROGRESS." The only way to get better at something is to practice it - and I also believe in constant improvement which is the idea that we can always be better. Now, I am designing a poster for my classroom that says "Practice makes progress" so my students can see it every day! Best of luck with nursing school - I know you'll be great!!
Omg I loved this video! Here I am 23 yo girl in her last year in med school in Argentina. Kiara your videos always make me smile and i feel like we are in this medical journey together like two sailors in the same boat hahahha. Here are some phrases "Everything is hard before it is easy", "You are gonna figure it out, like you always have", "One day at the time"
Hi Kiara!! It's my first day back at school today which means my first day of in-person classes in over a year! My last in-person class was in March of 2020. I'm really excited and not really nervous at all, which is good, and I'm watching your videos to hype me up before I go!
You know it's going to be a good day when you start it off with Kiara's new video! I would love to see more of these week in the life of a nursing student videos! I really enjoy watching them! Some phrases that I use to carry on are the only way you won't make it, is if you stop trying and these moments, the daily "grind", these are the dream. One of my fav questions of the day! I am reading through all the comments to look at others awesome responses. 💛
Aww Amber I always look forward to seeing you in the comment section! I too have been enjoying reading through all of these amazing comments...so much valuable wisdom! You point about the daily grind still being the dream is so applicable to me lately. I find myself thinking back of the excitement I felt when i got into school and using that as a reminder that I do want to be here and this is what I was so excited for. Just because school is loads of work and is challenging, doesn't mean it's negative or not worth it. Surviving the daily grind is what gives us pride and confidence in what we do. Hope you're having a good post-holiday Tuesday! ❤️
Thank you for making these nursing school videos! They are so helpful! If you have the chance I think a "what’s in my school bag/clinical bag" video would be super fun! ❤️
a quote/phrase I’ve started to apply to my career life to maintain perspective is “brick by brick”. it’s a saying I heard in Will Smith’s recent series on TH-cam “Best Shape of My Life”. and the way he explained it really inspired me to look at each day, each moment, each accomplishment just like that. brick by brick. focus on one brick at a time, and before you know it, you’ve built a whole house. but you focus alone on the brick in front of you. making it the best quality you can make it in the time you’re presently in.
A phrase that made an impact in my life was from my mom - "You don't gotta have everything figured out". It took out so much pressure off, given to me by society since high school. I don't know what my "dream" career is and that's ok, what's important is to keep going and keep learning. Think about the future but don't let it stop you from living the present. I LOVE MY MOM SO MUCH, SHE'S MY INSPIRATION 💜💜💜
It's interesting to see what another ABSN does, mine is in CA. It looks like you have the same classes I had last semester, hardest semester! Good Luck!
You just made my week 😍 in the next 7 days I'll be taking the most important exams for my degree and your videos always make me happy! Hope you had a great start 😊
FIRST DAY IF SCHOOL PICTURES!!! Yaaaassss! Traffic sucks. I hate driving in traffic. Also, being from Portland… I understand the traffic in Portland. I got stuck in traffic on 217 Going away from Beaverton toward LO. The accident was on the other side of the road and everyone was slowing down on my side to look. It was annoying. 84 is no better
I came across your youtube channel accidentally but it has been so pleasing to see what you have put up in your video. Initial few days of school are always a struggle to get through but I believe that you can do it. Thank you for filming your journey and letting us come along.
Aww girl I hate that feeling...good for you for relaxing...it's such a stressful time. I think my best advice if you're worried about being late is to have a few plans in place to safegaurd yourself and prevent you from cutting it close. For me, I like to wake up super super early and set a seperate alarm every 5-15 min so I must wake up. I also pack stuff I need the night before if I know I will cut it close. My friend used to even track people and knew if they wasn't on the road at a certain time to check in. Whatever works for you, get creative & make it happen. And then don't stress if it happens once or twice... we are all human and sometimes stuff outside our control happens!
LITERALLY woke up early and saw this in my subscription. Everything in life has its ups and downs but I'm so happy for you that you love nursing school. You're going to be an amazing nurse someday, I promise. And yes, I would love to see more content like this (:
I watched you since before you got into college at the University of Oregon (my dream school). And I can’t believe I still watch you after all your years there. And now you are in nursing school!! That’s so amazing! I’m finishing college soon and I’m heading into nursing school too!! You are so inspiring, keep being you :)
Currently studying for my first pathopharm test of the semester and this gave me some much needed motivation !! Sending you all the good energy for this semester ✨
I graduated from nursing school in may of 2020 and started my career on a progressive care unit specializing in alcohol/drug detox and psychiatric medical dual diagnosis, in the middle of the pandemic. We were severely short staffed with a very difficult patient population. Most days, I’d come home feeling like I ran out of time to do a million and one things, forgot to chart important information, left my oncoming coworker with a messy assignment. It was discouraging and made me question my capability of being a nurse. My mom began saying to me “you can’t save the world in a 12-hour shift” meaning I can’t do everything and save everyone in my shift alone. Somethings have to take back burner to more pressing situations and there are going to be items on the task list that don’t get completed. What’s most important in nursing is that you prioritize tasks appropriately and you are empathetic towards your patients to try and make their day a little better. Recently I switched to pediatric nursing, but I still find myself using this phrase “you can’t save the world in a 12-hour shift”
Wow Sara I love this story & lesson! Thank you so much for sharing it with baby nursing student me, I feel like I'm going to have to repeat that to myself a ton in the future! I love you're loving pediatric nursing...always feel free to comment any advice or tips...I'd love to go into peds and am always dying to learn more from cool nurses such as yourself! Thanks for watching ❤️
ah so fun watching you work with insulin!! i’m type one diabetic and it’s always cool to see things like that. i don’t know if it’s just an insulin thing, but the air bubbles in the syringe are so hard to push out!! as for the qotd, something i actually started saying as a joke but has now evolved into more for me is “no think just do” haha. i tend to overthink so forcing myself to just do something instead of thinking to much is hard, but “no think just do” has helped me get around it!
I have a mantra, cool, calm, collected. I tend to overthink and then it affects my productivity so by stopping myself to gain control every now and then I actually discover that I know how to handle the situation anyway and that I am competent. 😅Getting out of my own way is definitely a full time job.
one of the things i have to constantly remind myself is “you are enough” ( i even got it tattooed on lol) this applies to school, personal relationships, etc! as well as “everything happens for a reason” (will most likely get this tattooed too haha) these small things really help center my mind, hopefully they help u too!!!!
I’m so impressed with you and I haven’t been watching your videos for long. Keep up the good work! I’m working at a grocery store and I’m a checker. So, I get the working as a front line worker and your just in school doing the career you wanna do!! Yay!!! I don’t know what I wanna do and I’m 24, 25 in November… so I get stuck with those entry level jobs.
One of mine is "There is no mistakes in life, only lessons learned". For me this is a lesson or phrase because as you continue onto a particular path in the professional field....whether that be in a study at school that you are dreaming of fulfilling or even a 9-5 job that you are working at to pay the bills, you are going to screw up. You are going to say things that shouldnt be said and eccetra. But that is okay, because its a lesson learned upon you that although you have done such things, when learning why you shouldn't say such things or whatever "mistake" you make, iyts helping you to become a stronger, wise and more mature person. So that you can look back know better for yourself in the long run.
@@KiaraMadisen Very welcome. My parents gave me or shared me this quote when I was entering senior year of high school and I needed to come up with a quote of the day for the yearbook. I fell in love with it immediately.
I miss school SO nuch. I miss the routine of it. Having the productivity to go and learn something new in a subject that you enjoy. If I could go back, I probably would. Yet I can't decide what I would go back for. There are so many subjects I would love to go school for.
You just have to see which program calls your interests and supports your career goals! School has its pros and cons so you got to make sure it's worth it!
Love this, Kiara! Taken from the Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin, I love the phrase “make routine plays routinely”. Not every football game is won by a Hail Mary, but rather by careful, micro advancements up and down the field. It reminds me that before thinking about the big events, we need to focus on being good at the basics. It’s the seemingly little actions and habits that will add most significantly to our growth over time. Success comes from a million little routine plays that add up to something great! 💕
I personally love anything like GoGo squeezes. Idc that it is for a child. When I am at clinicals and I don't want my food to be exposed, I LOVE having snacks like that. You can reseal it, they stay fresh. Im also obsessed so dont fret lol
I love this...and you obvi🤗 I loved learning how to use a feeding pump and injecting insulin. I got so scared the first time and now it's no big deal anymore. I know it's not the "real deal" in a sim lab, trust we do this as well, but try to get as much out of it as you can. It's a protected space for you to learn and make mistakes. I love how much heart and attention to detail they always put in. Anyways there are so many heart sayings but I probably always come back to a very simple one "PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION!" Helps me everytime with my over the top perfectionism and standards so high no one could ever reach them. In work but also in general life. ❤☀️
A Phrase I use is ‘one patient at a time’ I work as a student paramedic for the London ambulance service and see some pretty bad stuff so my mentor always says just to take it one patient at a time ❤️❤️
I love this one! So great to remind yourself to stay focused and present in the situation...and then of course have an outlet or way to process the intense feelings at home!
I am a sophomore this year and people always tell me that 'you got this'. So that keeps me going through na intense week of work, study, classes and homework
Loved this video! A phrase that my dad ( who is a teacher) always says to me and to his students is “Don’t worry but do care” - quite self explanatory, but basically do your best and care about your work but try not to spend your time worrying and feel overwhelmed! I always say it to myself when I’m trying not to panic with work to calm myself down and remind myself that i’m doing the best I can do and is good enough. X
This is a great one! So easy to fall in that trap & I feel like growing up through the school system has trained us as students that if we are not worrying then we don't care about work, but that's so no true. For me, I notice that worries really interferes with my work, so staying focused on what is in my control is so important!
It is quite common to appreciate the manner that most Nursing students learn the ways and the Queeps of the Nursing situation in USA and Canada. In Ghana and Nigeria and the cameroons the situation is actually weird and something.
For everyone struggling with pharmacology out there, if you have a good photographic memory I really recommend Sketchy! Literally a lifesaver especially in micro and pharm!!
My career as a manicurist/nail technician lasted 30 + years .... eons ago one of my instructors in Beauty School would walk around when we were doing clients and would whisper phrases to us... one that stayed with me to this day is a simple one... the 5 P's ...Prior planning prevents poor performance .... I swear I still hear it and I have been retired for several years....

I'm really excited and not really nervous at all, which is good, and I'm watching your videos to hype me up before I go!
just now watching this but ur actually so cute i love thisss
Thank you for watching! And yes I need to do one of those soon!
a quote/phrase I’ve started to apply to my career life to maintain perspective is “brick by brick”. it’s a saying I heard in Will Smith’s recent series on TH-cam “Best Shape of My Life”. and the way he explained it really inspired me to look at each day, each moment, each accomplishment just like that. brick by brick. focus on one brick at a time, and before you know it, you’ve built a whole house. but you focus alone on the brick in front of you. making it the best quality you can make it in the time you’re presently in.
When you were talking about the anxiety of surges of cases I really felt that. My towns hospital is full and it’s just so unnerving!
In grad school for counseling, a phrase I used a lot was "trust the process." I still use it to this day (10 years post-grad school).
I try to remind myself this all the time when I feel like I am not ready to pop into the nursing world or am overwhelmed by how much I have to learn!
I just started following you. I am in my last 6 months of nursing school and i really enjoy your videos!
Greetings from Holland XX
You're in the home stretch! Thanks so much for watching!
It's interesting to see what another ABSN does, mine is in CA. It looks like you have the same classes I had last semester, hardest semester! Good Luck!
I love comparing programs too! I'm bracing myself for the intensity lol
I am a pre-nursing student and just submitted my application to nursing school. I can't wait to get started on my journey of becoming an RN.
You just made my week 😍 in the next 7 days I'll be taking the most important exams for my degree and your videos always make me happy! Hope you had a great start 😊
Big things are happening!! Thank you so much for watching, I’m rooting for you!
@@KiaraMadisen thank you so so much!
"If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you."
Thank you so much for watching my journey! I'm so lucky I have you guys for the best advice & encouraging words!
Feeling my panic attack kick in and decide to watch videos while i eat my breakfast and watching you is like talking with a friend
Good luck in your classes. I have no doubt you will do fantastic.
Thank you so much!
LITERALLY woke up early and saw this in my subscription.
Everything in life has its ups and downs but I'm so happy for you that you love nursing school. You're going to be an amazing nurse someday, I promise. And yes, I would love to see more content like this (:
Thank you so much for your kind comment ❤️ your support is so appreciated!!
@@KiaraMadisen Anytime Kiara. 💛💛💛 MWAH
You’re going to be a great nurse. I can really see it
aww thank you so much for saying that!
I watched you since before you got into college at the University of Oregon (my dream school). And I can’t believe I still watch you after all your years there. And now you are in nursing school!! That’s so amazing! I’m finishing college soon and I’m heading into nursing school too!! You are so inspiring, keep being you :)
I used to do standardized patient work as an actor and I loved it!
Currently studying for my first pathopharm test of the semester and this gave me some much needed motivation !! Sending you all the good energy for this semester ✨
Ahh Sarah! Hope it goes well! you got this!
I love this. Now I know what I'm looking forward to, which is nice. Keep them coming😍
Brings it all back from my nursing school days!! So proud of you Kiara - you're doing great. "You are continually learning - it's not a bad thing!!
Aww thank you Julie! Love & appreciate the encouragement!
ah so fun watching you work with insulin!! i’m type one diabetic and it’s always cool to see things like that. i don’t know if it’s just an insulin thing, but the air bubbles in the syringe are so hard to push out!!
as for the qotd, something i actually started saying as a joke but has now evolved into more for me is “no think just do” haha. i tend to overthink so forcing myself to just do something instead of thinking to much is hard, but “no think just do” has helped me get around it!
it's my first time in your channel, and I think you're really pretty.
I have a mantra, cool, calm, collected. I tend to overthink and then it affects my productivity so by stopping myself to gain control every now and then I actually discover that I know how to handle the situation anyway and that I am competent.
😅Getting out of my own way is definitely a full time job.
My quote: 'Everything is figure-out-able' 👌 💖
It's amazing to see your videos and hear about what you learn in school, Kiara! This is a great advantage. You'll make an excellent nurse!😉
Loved this video! You've got such a friendly, warm manner and you're going to be an amazing nurse!
one of the things i have to constantly remind myself is “you are enough” ( i even got it tattooed on lol) this applies to school, personal relationships, etc! as well as “everything happens for a reason” (will most likely get this tattooed too haha) these small things really help center my mind, hopefully they help u too!!!!
Just got accepted into nursing school and I’m very excited/nervous. Thanks for the video. It was fun.
Ahhh congrats to you!! The best feeling in the world!!
Please make more nursing school vlogs! I absolutely love them!
Coming right up!
This is so true & such a good one! None of us are perfect and we are all just doing our best! Thanks so much for watching & commenting!
@@KiaraMadisen Very welcome. My parents gave me or shared me this quote when I was entering senior year of high school and I needed to come up with a quote of the day for the yearbook. I fell in love with it immediately.
I'm in pathopharm and it's SO intense right now! It's crazy how different this term is compared to the previous term.
YES. It's so scary... we got to get through the challenging hump & it will feel so good!
@@KiaraMadisen Just so many to choose from.
You and I are about four weeks apart in school! You are making my journey WAY less stressful💕WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS
I love that! We are crushing it 💪
Love this, Kiara!
I literally just started and I gotta say, its not as bad as I thought BUT its as hard as I expected 😭 I got like 2 years left
So true! you have to mentally hype yourself up!
I'm 31 and also a nursing student who absolutely loves go go squeezes!
They really should sponsor us students on the grind out here!
I have been busy lately so I am finally catching up on your 5 most recent videos. Loving them so much! Hope you are doing well! X
Omg I love the binge Eva. You're the best.
For me, I notice that worries really interferes with my work, so staying focused on what is in my control is so important!
i just finished a class so Im watching this before my next one!!!
One class down, one to go!! You go girl 💪
It is quite common to appreciate the manner that most Nursing students learn the ways and the Queeps of the Nursing situation in USA and Canada.
In Ghana and Nigeria and the cameroons the situation is actually weird and something.
Hard work beats talent, when talent does not work hard!
So excited to watch this video and I love your editing! It’s so so good! Happy Tuesday and I hope that you are having a great day!
Thank you! You too! Today has been a nice & chill day!
@@KiaraMadisen you’re welcome and I’m so glad that you had a good day!
We take patho with health assessment together and pharm with fundamentals. So interesting to see how different nursing schools do things.
I agree! I just heard that my school is moving to this formate for next term which I think is smart because now this semester is exceptionally hard!
For everyone struggling with pharmacology out there, if you have a good photographic memory I really recommend Sketchy! Literally a lifesaver especially in micro and pharm!!
We love some good nursing school tips! Thank you!
I’m trying to go to PA school so I love seeing your nursing vlogs.. they are so relatable💛
That is such a great path, PAs are awesome! What are you doing/ thinking of doing to get your hours to apply??
My career as a manicurist/nail technician lasted 30 + years .... eons ago one of my instructors in Beauty School would walk around when we were doing clients and would whisper phrases to us... one that stayed with me to this day is a simple one... the 5 P's ...Prior planning prevents poor performance .... I swear I still hear it and I have been retired for several years....
I seriously love that SO much wow. I'm probs going to use this in nursing a ton!
I loved seeing this notification this morning! Your videos make me so happy and help me keep pushing forward! Hope you have a great week!
Thank you! You too!
This will be my life starting in January!
This is a great vlog doood !
I hope you have a great first week in the fall semester 💕💕💕💕💕💕
