Tip from a Night Shift Dispatcher: Start your laundry in the morning when you go to bed, then when you wake up later that day just move the clothes to the dryer. Makes getting laundry done so much easier and clothes are dry for work that night!!
Yes and some driers apparently have a wash delay setting that I didn’t know about! I usually delay mine by 6 hours that way it doesn’t sit as long once it’s done.
Love seeing the nursing content even though it's so different from my life as an engineer. You are so inspiring with all the things you manage to juggle!!
I work every weekend, nights… and I have to flip Monday night because I’m off Monday - Thursday and I have a 7-year-old that I take to school through the week, pick up, mom life. On Monday nights it’s EASY to pass out because I’m so tired. Putting your life on hold and living in survival mode is exactly how I would describe my night shifts.
Love the stream of consciousness that comes out of your mouth when you're exhausted lol. So fun to see you busting out these shifts- you've come SO far! It's my first week of nursing school 😀
I'm a teacher in the Caribbean and during online teaching for the pandemic, I adopted your practice of writing to do lists. I believe it kept me sane. Thanks !
I’m so proud of you for putting your mental health first and for realizing that you always have to put yourself first. Never apologize for putting yourself first! Can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for you Kiara! Love you and your vids 🫶🏻
I did this shit for 5 years when I first started as a respiratory therapist, I’ve been on straight days for the last 3, and I can tell you I will never go back lol. I was like a zombie those 5 years. My sleep is permanently destroyed, even while taking trazodone I’m a light sleeper. One noise and I’m up 😢
I love your videos! I am starting nursing school next week and I’m so nervous but I know it will be worth it in the end. In this new year I really want to dive into my learning and future and prioritize doing what makes me happy
In 2023 I made the resolution to stop feeling the need to check off “THE LIST”. It got to the point that I would feel anxious and guilty about relaxing or not completing things. Even the trick of adding everyday things such as take out the trash or get gas just to get the satisfaction of crossing it off did not help to ease it. You do not have to feel guilty about doing what you want and when you want it. For the truly important stuff, I set a daily reminder and that only happens like twice a month. The only list I keep now is a shopping list. It was hard the first few days feeling unaccomplished and I had to stop keeping a list in my head of what I did that day to earn ice cream and a movie. I have noticed such an improvement removing that anxiety from my life. You have a demanding job and hobbies. Do what you want in the moment and what your body says it needs. If it’s saying be a burrito and watch a show, do it.
I'm so glad you reflected and changed your system so it works for you! I defintally add some dumb basic human functioning things to my list, but it's still working for me for now. I do think rest is important and if you don't know yourself then you're going to reach a max point of burnout.
I decided that this year was the year that I tried to get into running - so far I'm a week in and it's not going too terrible but it does have the added bonus of getting me outside more which always feels good!
You always make me smile and always brighten up my day Kiera love your channel lots you will always be my favourite TH-camr and my inspiration hope you had a wonderful Christmas happy new year hope your having a beautiful week ❤❤❤
I switch between day and night all the time! Like I’ll do Wednesday day shift and then Thursday night shift, for example. My co workers think I’m crazy for it but it works for now 😅😂
Well done on you for takign things easy and only doing little bits of things. Hope 2024 is a good year for you. I have decided to cut down on the number of books for review that I do a month, also going to try to have a wee walk every couple of days depending on the energy I have - I have M.E.
The thing that I´ve added to my routine is to have a full rest day on sundays. I don´t turn on my alarm and I sleep until my body needs it and I don´t turn on my computer for anything. It have helped me with my mental health and to rest a bit
Hey Kiara! Could you make videos showing us how you studied in nursing school? I have been following you for some time but don't think I have come across any of those videos from you.
I'm starting night shift for the entirety of next week (and possibly more weeks after) and it'll definitely be interesting to see how it goes! Not sure how my body will react and the sleeping patterns that I'll encounter😅 Happy that you're doing well and taking care of yourself! I take care of myself by trying to sleep well, go out to nature and be with friends😄
It was actually a super lucky find at my local homegoods when I was at college! I know there are prints of the portland metro area online though and I will say it's one of my fav pieces in my apartment :)
Have you lived in this apartment a year now? I remember you made a move in video about a year ago around this time. Does your apartment not have central ac and heater? I noticed the unit mounted on wall in the living room.
@@slothyslothbear83 yes you have a valid point. It's none of our business. But keep in mine when you bring something up about your life people will ask questions. I made the mistake about bringing up my relationship at work and I got full of questions. Something to think about. If she wants to keep it private, then maybe she shouldn't have mentioned it.
I’m measuring my heartbeat every morning to see whether my sympathetic nerve is too active because of the stress🙈 So that I can see how much I should be relaxed It’s great that you recognize that we should sometimes slow down and take care of ourselves and it’s definitely not unproductive 🫶 I’m still working on myself to recognize that when I feel guilty to rest
One thing I’m trying to do this year is read more! I feel like it slows down my life for a little and of course expands my mind! Also, I used to loved reading when I was younger so it’s helping me tap back into my inner child. Currently reading Girl, Interrupted! 🤍
I love that! I hear good things about that book too! I am listening to michelle obama's second book on audible right now and loving the life stories and different perspectives.

Yes! Amen to this!
I worked midnights as a 9-11 dispatcher. Rough gig

I wish I could do that but I live in an apartment 😔😭
Night shift nurse for 7 years now, I'm glad it didn't take you long to figure out how important this is.
Balance is KEY.

To-do lists for the win! I just wrote one this morning so I can still be semi productive even though I am so tired.
I’m so proud of you for putting your mental health first and for realizing that you always have to put yourself first. Never apologize for putting yourself first! Can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for you Kiara! Love you and your vids 🫶🏻
Love ya lots! thank you so much for following along ❤️

Thank you! Working hard over here lol 😂
Your pajama set is absolutely adorable!!

One of the goals that I have this year is to read more books and so far I have had a good start
I love that! Mine too!
Hey Kiara! If you don’t already have them, wool dryer balls will help speed up drying time 🙂
Omg I just got some for Christmas and I love them!
I decided that this year was the year that I tried to get into running - so far I'm a week in and it's not going too terrible but it does have the added bonus of getting me outside more which always feels good!

3 patients would be a dream. In the UK we get 12 on most shifts 😭
Hey Kiara! Could you make videos showing us how you studied in nursing school? I have been following you for some time but don't think I have come across any of those videos from you.
I filmed my whole nursing school/study experience, check out the playlist called studying/nursing school :)
Okay thank you! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos

I swear there is a honeymoon period so I hope you ride that and rally through the first few weeks! You got this!
This video is pretty nice. You did a great job
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hey Kiara where did you get your pajamas? theyre so cute!!
Thanks! The ones with bows are old navy and the other ones are from target a few years ago!
Love the comfy pajamas. Do you have a link? I'm trying to find them online. Thanks
My mom Jean worked midnights for many years. Receiving Hospital in Detroit. R.N. Charge nurse.

straight survival is the night shift
Wow 4 hours of sleep doesn’t seem like much but if it were me I would also want to be up doing things when I’m off work.
Yea it's rough, but we can't sleep too long or we will sleep away out life lol
Happy Saturday
Hope you had a good weekend!
What concealer does she use???
Will you be able to switch to day shift any time soon? Not looking forward to nights as a new grad :/ also do you have any tips for preceptorship!
Hi Kiara, Happy New Year! How are you been?
Tired, but living life and finding balance :)
Where are your pajamas from?! I love them!
Thank you! They were from target a few years ago :)
School with you!
I think I saw you yesterday at Lola’s while I was with my bf, but I wasn’t sure / too nervous to say hi 😂
NO WAY. TAYLOR!!!!! You should've said hi. That would've made my whole life to finally meet you 😂 the universe better let us reunite again soon.
Where is your cute shirt that you’re wearing towards the middle to end of the video from? It is the yellow-green pattern long sleeve top :)
It's from Anthropologie sale section hehe
Where's your pj from ? 14:00 it looks amazing
Thank you! They are from old navy :)
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊
Omg Kiara where did you get that map next to your fridge? Is that the portland metro area? I NEED it for my new apt 🥰
I have. So wild how fast a year goes by. So night not to be moving right now! And yep it has central heat & AC!
When do we get to know what the new car is?
Soon I promise..I just have some pre-filmed videos I am editing first!
How's work? Can you picture yourself working there long term?
It's busy, but I love my specialty so hopefully yes!
Hey Kiara
Hey hey!
Imagine working the night shift as the single mother of a 6 year old!
WOAH. You go!!
I didn't know you wear a sleep mask like Shelby. Do you still follow her channel?
oh yea! Love her videos!
Were these 4 12s?
Yep!
2nd
Yay! Hope your year is off to a good start Courtney!
Did I hear you went on a date? Do you have a boyfriend now?
What a weird question. 1. You can date without having a boyfriend. 2. Even if she did it’s up to her when/if she wants to share them (if at all).
@@slothyslothbear83they were asking an innocent question. Relax
