    Once the iPad Mini gets an M1 chip it will be a no-brainer for a minimalist photography kit.
    I hope Apple comes out with that soon and also keeps the cost at a reasonable rate.

      Yea, it's just right. I wish it had a dedicated tablet slot, but if you re-position the divider it comes with so that. both velcro "wings" attach to the front of the bag, you can still have a segregated pocket for something small.

Fantastic review as you showed real life usage like putting it inside the 3L Peak Design Sling and even mentioned a few things that it did better than the 2018 Pro which I have been looking at purchasing. This new update to the mini is very attractive and I’m thinking of purchasing it over the Pro. Thank you 🙏

      @@thatsginter I must have missed the notification for your reply. I just watched the video again as I am still torn between the small convenient form factor of the mini 6 and the added benefits of the 120Hz display and additional screen real estate of the Pro. How are you finding this device long term? did you keep the Pro and have you tried other apps with small tabs like Affinity Photo as my concern is apps like that may be hard to use without Apple optimising IOS for the smaller screen?

    Great video and photos! I literally just picked up the iPad mini 6 today. Also coming from an iPad Pro 11 2018 model year. I’ve only had it a couple of hours and watching this video on it. I like the fit in my hand. But not sure how I feel about the screen size, so gonna give it a week or so. I also do landscape photography, so hoping it fits my use case as well as it does yours. Did it take you some time to adjust to the smaller size? Did you end up keeping the 11 inch? I’m debating whether I want to continue with trading it in or not.

    I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 9 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult -so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing.
    After 9 years of ownership, I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following - with %'age used (give or take): Otherwise it sits in a drawer.
    #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%)
    #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
    #3 - as an eReader (4%)
    #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%)
    The variety uses that others have for the Mini shows how many tasks it can do so well.
    Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year. BTW I would 'NEVER" buy a bigger iPad as the Mini is simply a great portable complimentary device.

    Thanks for your video great help, I just bought the iPad Mini yesterday and I can say you can't go wrong but they seriously need to put an SD card reader slot on the device, and maybe you could help one problem I have is increasing image thumbnail size when using the card reader, I can change the font size and that will increase image thumbnail size but the font-size becomes ridiculously large, this problem is only using the card reader, thanks

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An SD card reader on an ipad would be pretty awesome...not sure they could fit it, but it would be nice! As for the thumbnails while importing...yes, that part sucks. It can be hard to see which shot is in focus or has good facial expression, so I've been resorting to doing my checks on my camera before importing to the iPad (at least until Lightroom updates this).

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pretty dang accurate, I've seen some reviews say it's over 103% sRGB according to their tests. I don't really see a difference between my gen1 11" iPad Pro. And there is no air gap like on the regular iPad. The only difference you'd see is if you compared it to the newest 12.9" iPad Pro which has Liquid Retina XDR, which is Apple lingo for mini-led tech. That screen has higher contrast ratio & can get way brighter. Buuuut, it's a big tablet hehe.

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brent! I do most of my edits in Lightroom CC (iPad) or Lightroom Classic (Macbook), so haven't dabbled much into Photoshop unless it's for specific layer/blending. Honestly, Adobe's approach to mobile Photoshop is confusing. They have Photoshop, Photoshop Express, Photoshop Fix, Photoshop Mix (the is the one I used to blend layers), and ya... I'm sure it can be done, but from a management and streamlined process I'd probably stick to MacOS or Windows. I think there are just more options/features with the full suite for professional workflows.

    • @brentmccombs2900
      @brentmccombs2900 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatsginter Thanks for the reply. And that's kinda what i figured. I bought a 2015 Ipad Pro to use at wedding shows for advertising but also in studio as a display for models, but secretly hoped i could do editing on it. Never reached that point with software (pre-pandemic) that i was happy with, but I had(have?) hopes for the mini.
      LR looks outstanding, and if Capture 1 ever comes mobile (have they yet?) That would be even better, but I agree with how darn confusing Photoshop seemed back when i looked into it and still seems to have that issue.
      Anyway, I ordered the 256 mini today (my2015 ipad Pro shattered on the weekend) and I hope this will be a good replacement for much of what I want to do. If i ever need the larger screen just for adverts at shows, I'll pick up a used ipad Pro, but other than that, I think i prefer the smaller form factor.
      Last thing - don't suppose Wacom has a software suite i don't know about turning the Ipad into a small tablet? That would be outstanding, but i suspect cut too deeply into their hardware business.

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes, sorry to hear about the iPad busting on ya. At least it was getting a bit old, but they are still great machines for the kind of things you were using it for. Capture 1 announced they had an app coming to iPad in early 2022. I haven't used C1, but have heard great things about it. I'm hoping it rocks cause we need more competition to keep pricing competitive and new features rolling out! As for Wacom, I think you can use an app called Duet to use your iPad as a makeshift Wacom tablet... I have not tried it, but something to consider. The iPad Mini is the perfect size for me and my quick on-the-go workflow. I think you're gonna dig it!

    Is it possible to rate images directly on the SD card without having to import them to the ipad?

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Semko. It depends on your camera! On my Sony camera, I can set one of the Custom buttons to rate (1-5 stars) when viewing images. For my Sony a6600 it's on the 2nd tab, 3rd option down "Custom Key" but the one with the play icon. Pick a key on the camera, and look for "Rating". For mine it is on page 3. From there you can choose how many star ratings you want to give an image. So when you are just viewing playback on your photos, you can now press that button to mark it and it will show up in Lightroom with that same rating!

      I'm usually fine with auto brightness, but will turn it up if I feel like I can't see enough details. After most of the edit looks good, I'll dim the screen down to see how it might look on other people's phones/screens in case they are viewing at night and it's overly dim. Don't forget about referencing the histogram too! (bonus tip - I disable True Tone in the iPad settings so I know what my colors look like all the time).

    How’s working with large batch of files, does it slow down or heat up?

      Hello Azlif! Sorry, I usually don't work through large batches on the iPad, mostly for quick social shares. But at least for my work flow, it hasn't slowed down or heated up in any capacity that makes me want to throw it at the wall lol.
