  • Photo editing using Lightroom on the iPad can be amazing but you don't need the biggest screen to get the best results. In this week's video I show how I use my professional photography workflow on the new Apple iPad Mini 2021 -- Apple's smallest ever iPad.
    I show how to organise images using albums, how to easily delete images and how to sync edits to save time.

      I use the 5th mini for photo editing. I used to have a 12.9 inch which had a beautiful huge screen, great for drawing but it never left my desk. Too big. The mini is just way more hand held, one handed it’s so nice and light and the screen is still great with amazing colour representation

    Can't describe how much this video has helped me. I need an iPad for Lightroom. I just couldn't decide whether to go for Air or Mini. I was more keen on the mini, because it fits nicely in your hand, its easy to compose emails and taking notes. I really like the big screen, but I get easily tired working on large frame tablets. I think this would be perfect for my need. Thank you so much for the video!

    This is great. I spend too much time in front of my iMac editing, often after spending time over the work computer as well, which is beginning to make my photography feel less like a hobby. I'd been considering getting an iPad to do more of my editing without being stuck at a computer, and also to help my workflow which is dreadful. You've got a really keen eye for editing too.

    This video got me actually looking at the mini when I was tempted at getting the 12,9” pro . I bought the mini
    2021 for my wife as she was reading a lot on her phone. I bought the pencil and tried out Lightroom on her mini. This video and the fact I can fit the device in a pocket of my uniform got me buying the 256GB version that I hope to use for at least the next 5 to 6 years.

      Thanks Maarten, I hope it serves you well! I love using mine for editing as it's so comfortable to hold and edit on the sofa -- and especially when travelling -- and it's perfectly powerful enough for editing high resolution raw files.

    Thanks so much for the tutorials on Lightroom cloud version/iPad. In my camera club of about 150 people, I’m the only one I know of using the cloud version. I love it and find that my workflow is similar to yours. Still, I always find some useful tips and tricks from your videos. I usually load new images through my iPad because it is quicker than loading through my PC. Hopefully, I’ll be receiving a new iMac 24” M1 (1Tb SSD, 16 GB ram) in a week or so.

    • @AndrewLanxonPhotography

      Thanks for watching, Lee! I imagine most people are using Lightroom Classic? I use that most of the time to be fair, and it has some important tools that Adobe are yet to put into the mobile version. But it's so close to be being better now and I'm sure you've noticed that it runs SO much faster than LR Classic! And the cloud syncing is just a dream if you work across multiple devices. Your camera club will come around to it eventually and then you'll be seen as the thought-leader and everyone will ask for your recommendations later on.

      @@AndrewLanxonPhotography As you suggest, virtually everyone uses LRc, but Capture 1 is being used by some. Just a few more capabilities and we’ll see how it goes. Looks like the new masking algorithms will close some of the gap.

      @AndrewLanxonPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rafael, thanks for watching. Lightroom will sync photos to the cloud which can mean you don't need to take up as much room on your ipad for storing photos. 64gb isn't a lot of space but it should be enough if you're smart with how you use it. In lightroom settings you can clear the cache as well to free up more space. Even on my 512gb ipad I only have 7gb of local files in lightroom.

    The large variety of productivity/entertainment uses for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be for so many people. Master of Nun - But Good at a lot of stuff - Fine by me!!!
    I bought an iPad Mini 2 Cellular 10 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult - so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing.
    After 10 years of ownership - I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following (otherwise it sits in a drawer)
    #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) That's after over 150K miles of road trips (FYI - lots of pilots use the Mini for realtime in-flight information)- when I need a GPS around town - my iPhone works fine.
    #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
    #3 - as an eReader (4%)
    #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) This might change with the pencil.
    I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out @ year end. The Mini is simply a great portable high performance device that sits between an iPhone & MBA M2 as a complimentary but not essential device.

    Andrew, 2 questions. 1) Do you use Lightroom Classic when you are at home with your main computer? 2) I need something lighter than my 13 inch M1 MacBook Pro while travelling to do simple Lightroom edits . Look like the IPad Mini all work. But in terms of the whole work flow, how do you sync the images and catalog with your laptop or desktop at the end of a travel session. The video hints that you rely on Lightroom Cc’s sync function to Lightroom Classic.

    I'm looking for a desktop replacement with a great screen for editing. I'm out 90% of the day and have no desire to sit behind a screen to edit photos so this might be a winner. Does iPad iOS recognize cr3 files ? Android dropped support for those files and I was bonkers mad you know lol. So I would plug a card into my phone or Android tablet and auto sync but now Lightroom won't auto add the files big no no android.

    • @AndrewLanxonPhotography
      @AndrewLanxonPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure it does support .CR3 files although I haven't tested that myself so I can't say for certain. Lightroom supports them at least so you'd be able to import them, but whether you can view them directly in the iPad image gallery in raw format I'm not sure.

    This is the video I’ve been looking for this whole week! You just helped me make a decision. I was deciding between iPad Air 4 or this Mini 6. I thought(kinda afraid) that the screen on mini will be too small for serious photo editing and should go for Air 4. But then the 256gb storage is way too expensive on the bigger one. But now I finally decided that I will buy the iPad Mini 6!
    Previously I tried carrying around iPad 6th gen in my camera bag(with 150-600mm lens in it too) and found it to be too heavy and hurt my shoulder and want to something lighter.

      @AndrewLanxonPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks so much for watching! I think the Mini is a great size really, so don't worry about it being too small. Storage is really up to whatever you can afford. Personally I think it's always best to future proof yourself by saving a little longer and getting the bigger version. Lightroom does have cloud storage so you don't need to keep your raw files saved locally, which helps, but even so 64GB can run out quite quickly. Hope that helps!

      I don't have the Air, but between the Pro and the Mini, it really depends on the situation. At home, or travelling without weight restrictions, the Pro is great. I love the bigger screen. But the Mini is superb for always having on you and editing quickly on location. It's also a LOT cheaper and has enough power to handle Lightroom.
