munnypantz Yeah. there's lots of these but always a good job. Hoping He'll go back to complete history's of lesser known or popular games. Like Alex Kidd maybe.
At 30:44 you say 2011 instead of 2001; I feel bad for being so picky as the video as a whole is very well made and the amount of information kept me entertained throughout.
That GTA 1 soundtrack (joyride) kills me everytime! Fond memories of being only 10 and older cousins, buying the game and being able to play it! GTA 2 was bit meh for me but 3, what a masterpiece. Thankfully my parents were unknown to the level of violence in the game and bought it for me at Xmas, my uncle however got me the same game! I had two copies and was doubly joyful of having both. What an incredible series. Great video Daniel!
that year old kid should not of had gta4 in the first place. this something i think need to be fixed about the esrb rating stem. store should be asking who the game is being bout fore and person answer with there kid, the work should ask how old the kid is and if the kid is younger then the age rating. then the work should tell them to put the game back and find a game that is age aprit.
Gabriel Hunt Same here, the music, missions, universe, and especially the voice talents! Michael Madsen in GTA3? Sam Jackson in GTA:SA? Vice City had Burt Freakin' Reynolds!
I remember playing GTA 2 on playstation when I was 14. My friend introduced me to the PC version with the multiplayer. I love that game, easily my favorite.
Eh, Liberty City Stories was pretty good. A bit of a disservice to compare it to DLC or mission packs. Fixed plenty of issues with the originals, added features and fleshed out some of the side characters. Tony was a more entertaining protagonist than the silent one from GTAIII. It also became a coveted PSP UMD because the first release allowed an exploit that let PSP owners run unsigned code (read: homebrew apps, """""backups"""" of games, downgrading of firmware, etc.)
John Doe Yup. Liberty City Stories > Hands down, best story of the 3D Era. SA is just weak in comparison, it's just the MASSIVE features (That most people don't like or don't care about anyways...) what makes it stand out from the others. VC: Have you seen Scarface? You've played VC then. VCS: Feels like a rushed afterthought that barely connects to VC.
This is an excellent and highly underrated video on GTA. This channel deserves a lot more attention than it gets. Kudos to you Daniel for making these kinds of videos.
Great video Dan. I'm well aware of how much time, effort and dedication these documentaries take. I'm sure your coffee expenditure is sky high, but the result is evidently worth it.
+Nostalgia Nerd i actually gained a bit of a cough from this by not sleeping much and drinking bad drinks lol. Nice chilled vid next week me thinks. Thanks for your voice lending skills btw
@42:39 gta 4 is my favorite because it wasn't only about missions, but also about socializing, making friends, playing bowling, go to theatre. you could even go to internet or watch television for hours. it was just about being violent, it was living an ordinary live and trying to be successfull, that "sims-like" aspect was pretty unique and damn good, especially because the russian main character has lot of charisma. comparated to episodes 2, 3 and 5, was more about being violent and nothing else. gta vice city and gta 4 was the prime time of the serie to me.
+TalesOfWar: I played GTA 4, but I didn't enjoy playing it as much as playing GTA 3, Claude has more character than Niko for me, and Claude doesn't speak...hehe

Vice City also had one of the coolest cheats in the series - Hovercraft cars! As the car gets into the water, the wheels change angle like a DeLorean for flight. :)
Man, I remember back when I was a kid, all of my friends had copies of either GTAIII, GTA:VC or GTA:SA, and they played them all the time in their PS2's, but me, I only had a PSOne, so I had to play either the original GTA or the improved GTA2. It always makes me a bit disappointed to see that a lot of people know about GTA and the early 3D games, but very few people have actually tried the first games in 2D, and when they do, most people don't really like them enough to play them for a decent amount of time. Seriously, thanks for making this video, I already know I'm going to enjoy it! :D
Great video. You made me remember that time when I played GTA for the first time. That was downloading a illegal copy of GTA III when I was 12, because my laptop was crap. The Complete History Of... series is absolutely fantastic to binge when ever I'm bored. Thanks dude.
Daniel Ibbertson excellent, I'll be looking forward to it. You know I was going to say throw Burning Rangers in there as well with that video, as to make it a double for Sonic Teams' Saturn games, but then I remembered the Wii NiGHTS game. I've never played it but I would like to check it out at some point
Surprised you didn't bring up the hot coffee controversy that went down with GTA:SA. Still, exellent video. I love the GTA series as well and I enjoyed hearing about its history.
@Tom Ffrench I get it, Doom is the Terminator 2 to Wolfenstein's Terminator 1. It is better in every way. However, Wolfenstein still gets my vote, most people saw nothing quite like it when it came out.
Love these games, from the first one played on a pc in 1998/1999 to GTA 5, completed just three weeks ago on a xbox360. A series that embraced all the computer and consoles I possesed in the last 17 years. Played them all and enjoyed each and everyone. Great games, and great video. Thank you. p.s I really enjoy your videos, keep going.
how could you say that?? harley quinn is an insane mass murderer!!! or are you just one of these people that like her look but dont know squat about the actual character
You mentioned the DOS game, but you should of used and mentioned the original DOS artwork box. You just added the later CD-ROM - PS1 like artwork Also forgot to mention the other DMA games that inspired GTA. Other than body harvest there was Space Station Silicon Valley
I first played GTA3 on a PS2 and lost my mind and how fun it was. Guilty fun of course and almost immediately got it for PC. Vice City was probably my favorite since I’ve always been fond of the 80’s vibe.
to me gtaiv is the most boring of the 3d series, the game focus too much on the "cousin loving" for my taste, and having nothing to use the money on, made the game feel, too basic for me.
I feel like I know quite a lot about GTA but this video knows more! Thank you. I knew that it started out as the B game at DMA under the name race and chase but didn't know the details about where the engine came from. I first played GTA when I got the demo disc with Offical Playstation Magazine and it was like nothing I'd played before. I loved how much of the music you included from the first game! My disc got so scratched I ended up buying another copy and it was one of the platinum reprints. I found out that I could put it in my CD walkman and play the music form the game. one cool 'feature' ended up being that there was a track of outside sounds and a track of police radio. I totally need to get a Game Boy color GTA for my collection, I'd forgotten all about that one! also I didn't know about the GTA:London 1961 pack. Not having the internet when it came out I only knew of the PS1 1969 game. The amount of stuff I'm finding out in this is great. Thanks Dan! One thing I remember from playing London as a kid was my step-dad (playstation stick guy) pointing out that the zig-zag road marking you see while driving around we're wrong as they didn't come out till a later date. Pointless facts! I love how back then going from GTA III to Vice City was just a year. Its such a shame now that with graphics, programming and meeting peoples expectations that it takes thm 6+ years . I love that you talked about the table tennis game, everyone kept talking about the engine at the time and how that was a tech demo for the next GTA! I know this is a long comment, I really enjoyed this video! p.s. You didn't mention Hot Coffee! ;)
San Andreas is a state consists of three metropolitan cities Los Santos, based on Los Angeles; San Fierro, based on San Francisco and Las Venturas, based on Las Vegas.
From Wikipedia: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes place in 1992 within the state of San Andreas, which is based on sections of California and Nevada. It comprises three major fictional cities: Los Santos corresponds to Los Angeles, San Fierro corresponds to San Francisco, and Las Venturas corresponds to Las Vegas.
A fantastic documentary on the phenomenal franchise known as Grand Theft Auto, it's not just a video game, it's an experience, it's a part of our culture and without GTA gaming and life would not be the same. GTA 6 is gonna be mind blowing, i have no idea how they're gonna top GTA 5 but man it's gonna be hard, i feel like GTA 6 is the pinnacle, even though it's not my favourite GTA, can't wait to see what they do next. 54 minutes just flew by, was hooked since i started and didn't feel bored at all, well done dude.
Thanks for this, Dan, great work! I appreciate it! This is definitely, by far, my favourite game series of all time. An absurd amount of hours out of my life have been spent playing these games!
Fabulous video. I'm glad you described Chinatown Wars as a Hidden gem as it's awesome top down (albeit slightly slanted) action. Funnily enough GTA 5 Online have released a top down stunt race - another call back to the DMA days.
Amazing episode, it was a blast to see all the GTAs lined up since I played most of them growing up aside from the "Stories" and "San Andres" which I only played like once or twice. Great job Slopes!
I'm glad that you put so much time making chinatown wars feel like it is something great. It's was always one of my favorite gta game, especially the drug mechanics and the police system in it. I feel like it's forgotten :(
I wish I could go back and play GTA III in 2002 for the first time again. It was such a revolutionary game. So few games leave the kind of massive ripples through both the medium and pop culture that GTA has.
I started playing GTA5 on the PS3 when it first released but only got up to Trevor’s character missions before I stopped playing, I didn’t stop because of not liking the game because honestly it’s absolutely awesome, I definitely will go back to play hopefully some time soon. The online community for the PS4 is absolutely incredible, the amount of mods created for this game are endless, the game looks incredible on both the PS4 and Xbox1, definitely one of the best made games of all time.
I've been subscribed to this channel for quite some time and I've also turned on notifications. Still I have never known about this "The complete history" series until a few months ago... Why have I never seen this before?? There is so much to catch up on.
Sorry if someone said this before, but I didn't read all the comments, but I think that 3 major points that you didn't talk in this video (I know, very known ones, but part of the history anyway) where : A) Race and Chase AI bug, B)Rage engine coming from Midtown Madness and C) Hot Coffe scandal. But anyway, amazing video!
Awesome vid about an awesome series. There's just so much to talk about...nearly a full hour, and there's still tons of comments saying "Hey, you didn't mention X"!
I was going to watch it later but it's Easter and I had nothing to do. This was a great complete history Daniel. Thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into these videos.
dude! I am sharing this on my social media! thanks fro making this video, even theres tons of other gta series history video, yours are one of the best, I never knew the the first ever gta campaign used negatif coverage, I learn something new again!
San Andreas remains my favourite of the series due to the story but one of my favourite gaming memories has to be turning GTA5 on and being greeted by Trevor waking up in a skip. Hilarious! :'D
The brilliant soundtrack is what really sold the immersion of Vice City... I've never seen a game (or even movie) that just oozed 1980's Miami quite like that, and not so much the realistic thing as a perfect replication of our thoughts and memory of the setting.
This is without a doubt the most comprehensive video you have done to date. Extremely well done. I've only really had a passing interest in the GTA franchise up til now. But after wstching this I just might pick up GTA5 and give it a go. Thanks for your hard work and I look forward to more content from you!
High five dude! The first GTA were a major thing for me and my buddies when we were lads on the verge of leaving school. We'd play it for hours at a time and I don't think any of us actually finished it or the other PS1 games. It was just too much fun going around causing havoc. Vice City and San Andreas are my favourites, although man San Andreas is filled with too much side stuff. Well done on getting this video finished. Can't imagine how many hours of editing this took. Was quite the gargantuan effort.
Ah, the GTA series... Growing up a Nintendo-kid, I never really had access to the GTA games save for GTA 1 on my Pentium MMX 133MHz PC. I also remember playing GTA 3 quite a bit at a friends house, and then finally Chinatown Wars on DS. Even now when I own all major consoles it just doesn't seem to captivate me as it does others. If Rockstar wants to make some extra money, they should really consider porting the next GTA for Nintendo Switch. Imagine having the console GTA experience on a handheld. Minds would be blown. Even I'd get into GTA at that point. The way I prefer my open world games are more the Shenmue-style and the new Zelda-style though.
I used to play the original GTA for ps1 like crazy and imagine how my mind was blown when I got a ps2 and GTA 3 came out with an entire city to explore, new mechanics, and a 3rd person view
* High 5! * That was an epic complete history Dan. GTA is one of my fave game franchises, been playing since the first game hit Playstation and have loved every entry so far. Hearing those old GTA tracks from the original games soundtrack took me right back to being a 90's teenager again lol. Loved it! Did you know you've made a mistake though when you're talking about getting your copy of GTA 3 you say 2011.. I think you mean 2001? However other than that Great work mate :)
Another great History vid there.. Played all the GTA's at some time, and Lived through the whole Games are evil, and remember playing the PSX version and hearing of friends mums taking the game away lol ..
^5 double hi5 I watched this video from start to finish for the second time today. This time I appreciate a little more how tough it must have been to fit the series history into an hour and think you did a good job introducing the first game which could otherwise be overlooked. Thanks for the review,
Pleasure to watch as usual. Personally I didn't pay attention to the GTA series until Vice City which remains number one for me. The soundtrack, the setting, the story, all is gaming bliss for me. Great video as usual. Keep up the hard work !!!
One thing I never liked about GTA2 is that they removed Motorcycles from GTA1. They didn't come back until Vice City, but I love the way those bikes handle the best of the entire series.
Hi five mate on a job very well done! That was excellent, well worth every second of the 54 minutes. I could never get into the original top-down games, as the controls seemed too clunky, and that viewpoint made it difficult to see what was coming when driving until it was too late and bam, smashed into things. For me, while there were aspects that were fun, it didn't grab me. GTA3 was different. I don't want to think about how many hours I sunk into that one, doing missions, just driving around, trying to cause as much havoc and mayhem as possible, trying to get as many police after me as possible and then seeing how long I'd last, it was just monumental fun. I have not played Vice City or San Andreas yet, and while I've played GTA IV and both the add-ons for it (fo want of a better word), it just doesn't grab me in the way 3 still does. And I'm yet to try GTA5, which no doubt I'd enjoy, but eh, i'll get around to it, hahaha
I don't know, that were Driver's actually ripoffs/copycats of original GTA. Reflections propably were pretty much aware of GTA, but they had their influence in 70's cop car chases and they certainly has more of that feeling in them, rather than the mayhem and chaos of GTA. And they had already done 3D car games before them with Destruction Derby-series, which were then further developed into Driver-series. For me, it feels like Driver I/II inspired DMA/Rockstar North to go for similar sort of 3D world, with big city to explore freely (*ahem*blocked bridge on GTA III*ahem*).
I’ve been playing GTA since vice city when I was like 5. It was such a huge part of my childhood. I’ve replayed the entire gta 5 story mode like 6 times.
Woah awesome job Slopes on such a long and well edited video mate. Watched it all the way to the end and dang you got so much in that time. Stuff the high five, high ten instead :D
wow! first reply from a successful youtuber! do you think your next project could be about the history of gaming PCs or the development of graphics cards over the years? that would be awesome! I find the innovation of graphics power fascinating. thanks! :)
Love these Complete History series, really worth the watch, even on games I've never played. Id really like to see you do a review similar to the Sky Sports "Premiership Years". Pick a year, say 1998 and review the big games that came out in that year.
I remember when GTA: San Andreas came out, it was a big deal, all the things you could do. Fly planes, being able to swimming and so much. Then GTA IV came out and it blew our minds. Sure it looks dated now, but at the time, it was state of the art. The car damage in GTA IV still holds up pretty well in my opinion. With GTA V, I wasn't sure how it was going to be when I heard you play as three different characters. Rockstar pulled it off however, and that system works well. I still have yet to play the updated GTA V with all the new features, but I'm hoping too. It was also mind-blowing to see the GTA series evolve when you grew up playing them from the very first one.
Love the video mate. Discovered your channel earlier today and have been watching a lot. I just have one question: ever consider one of these "complete history of's" on the semi-obscure Clock Tower Games?
you have secret missions on the pager in gta 1. god you bring back thoses memories 😂 as a pedestrian you could explorer every coin of the city. was a pure revolution. unfortunately up to this day gta has american sign so driving in the city as an european is hard. the traffic lights are located after the intersection, while in france it's before and the speed limit is indicated in miles. even in gta 5.
@12:40 oh yeah the early episodes featured 3 cities and a 4th with an add-on (london), which is obviously not the case anymore since graphic details was more cared.
Nice vid! So much I could say about GTA games, I love all the nods of the head and easter eggs about other things. Oh and the music that takes me right back too! Anyway, Vice City took alot of inspiration from alot of different films (although most remember Scarface) check out a film called Carlito's Way, very heavy influences from that.
The original Grand Theft Auto was the original reason I purchased an Sony Playstation while I was in Middle School, even though I already had an N64. I had GTA, GTA 2, and GTA London 1969. Besides Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, those were the only games I had and cared about on the Playstation.
Nicely done Dan. Such a great franchise to look back on. Official PS2 mag (UK) gave GTA3 a 7/10 and in a much later issue re-reviewed it (post Vice City iirc), stating they didn't give credit for how ground breaking it was at the time. Craig Conner (Reality Bubble) - "Days Like These" is one of my favourite tracks from GTA, he dis a load of tracks for the game. The breadth of his tunage is remarkable. I'd like to hear your fav's from all the series if you care to reply.
This was beautiful and brilliant. My first taste of the GTA series was with 3 and Vice City. VC is my favorite of the series. I absolutely love the series and will gleefully await the next entry.
Excellent video Dan. I usually watch all youtube vids on my laptop or phone but when i saw this in my sub box i thought thats one for the big tele with a couple of beers. To this day i'm still pretty pissed off we never ended up getting San Andreas Stories.
almost an hour long. people really ought to give yo a like just for the ffort alone. But quality is present throughout as well! nice job man
+Shesez thanks so much man. Spes coming from a channel like urs
Great video
I'm glad Daniel took time to look at this niche indie series.
OMG YOU HAVE HEARD OF IT TOO!!!
Daniel Ibbertson haha
Daniel Ibbertson your scraping the barrel of obscurity with this one dan mate lol
The early games are pretty obscure now.
munnypantz Yeah. there's lots of these but always a good job. Hoping He'll go back to complete history's of lesser known or popular games.
Like Alex Kidd maybe.
My favorite is still San Andreas, but they're pretty much all great. I'm ready for GTA VI. (And Bully 2!)
At 30:44 you say 2011 instead of 2001; I feel bad for being so picky as the video as a whole is very well made and the amount of information kept me entertained throughout.
noticed and came down just to see if someone commented on it before i was going to
Lord_4000 did the same
Christopher Cooke that startled my brain for a sec lol
That shows what a great documentary this keeping us entertained with knowledge for thirty some minutes and more. This is my favorite history channel.
That GTA 1 soundtrack (joyride) kills me everytime! Fond memories of being only 10 and older cousins, buying the game and being able to play it! GTA 2 was bit meh for me but 3, what a masterpiece. +Wrestlelamia ahhhhhh. I love reading stuff like this hahaha i had to get my mum to buy it for me too :P
Let's be real, your parents + uncle got it for you because it is what was recommended by the EB Games employee.
Check the rest of the complete history series here... goo.gl/JjBIHi

Hey Slopes, How about a complete history of manic miner?
GTA: Vice City is still my favorite game in the series, other than GTA V.
Gabriel Hunt Mine too! I brought my PS2 because of Vice City.
Same here. The soundtrack, man.
San Andreas is my favorite, The ps2 generation of gta games were the best unlike gta4 and gtav.
here too, GTA2, Vice City and GTA5 are my fav
Gabriel Hunt Same here, the music, missions, universe, and especially the voice talents! Michael Madsen in GTA3? Sam Jackson in GTA:SA? Vice City had Burt Freakin' Reynolds!
I remember playing GTA 2 on playstation when I was 14. My friend introduced me to the PC version with the multiplayer. I love that game, easily my favorite.
I've been binge watching all your videos the last few weeks. I love your content, brother! Thanks for all the entertainment and history lessons.
+dearsomeone you are more than welcome :) thanks for sticking around
Me to can't get enough of SGR ATM!
What a fantastic video from start to finish. Thank you so much.
More than welcome. Its eadily one of my favs

Nice video by the way. I never made the connection between the originals and the Driver franchise back then.
John Doe Yup. Liberty City Stories > Hands down, best story of the 3D Era.
SA is just weak in comparison, it's just the MASSIVE features (That most people don't like or don't care about anyways...) what makes it stand out from the others.

The Ballad of Gay Tony was fucking AMAZING. Still one of my favourite GTA storylines.
Tony Is Gay! (Insert Laughing Audience Here)
Played GTA and GTA 2 back in the day. GTA 3 was mindblowing. I pre-ordered Vice City which was my 1st pre-order.
Great video, Dan. I wish you mentioned Lazlow when talking about the music and radio stations.
agreed! it isn't really a GTA without Lazlow Jones.
They made him a bitch in gta v
This is an excellent and highly underrated video on GTA. This channel deserves a lot more attention than it gets. Kudos to you Daniel for making these kinds of videos.
I used to appreciate riding the train on the PC version of the original and was disappointed it wasn't in the PS1 version haha x
PS1 version was inferior to the mighty PC version.
Agreed x
I've only just discovered your channel. Quality content man.
Ashens voice is far to posh for the news of the world
+Darren's Toy channel hahahaha
Stewie: Hey Fatass! I Got News For Ya, Da News Of Da Wurld! (Shows Queen Album Cover To Person)
"Horrific noise that is rick astley"
What the fuck man how could you
Great video Dan.
Daniel Ibbertson anytime my friend... anytime.
Hot coffee? Hee ,hee.
Great vid. You can tell this isn't a US video from the lack of a certain lawyer. Thank you.
Hmmm
Grand Theft Auto, the best series I’ve ever played
(4/14/19)
Vice City is amazing. Needs to be remade.
Crocmaster McGeezax YES! and GTA3 as well.
Lets hope GTA6 will go back to Vice City
You can say GTA 4 was essentially a remake of 3 with a different story. Same place and all.
+TalesOfWar: I played GTA 4, but I didn't enjoy playing it as much as playing GTA 3, Claude has more character than Niko for me, and Claude doesn't speak...hehe
@ TalesOfWar - That wouldn't make it a remake then.
Gotta say the amount of effort you put into these series retrospectives is greatly appreciated keep up the always great work
54 minutes long, be still my beating heart. This going to be good.
Minutes = the same amount of hours I spent on this beast!!!
*high5* Great video and always appreciate the work put in. I am surprised there was not a single ad.
That was pretty much my reaction: Holy damn, Slope! An hour-long video?? Anyway, fantastic work! I love me some Slope's Complete Histories; thank you! You and Larry are by far, and I mean WAY far, my most revisited TH-camrs!
I don't suppose you have a Saints Row CH on the books?
✋ thanks mate. 54 minutes felt more like ten. Loved it all. Only slight improvement could maybe be to briefly touch on the 1st person mode in GTA 5
I never understand why people post comments before actually watching the video.
This feels even better than a one-hour documentary you see on History or Nat Geo.
+Edgar González ahhhhh thanks dude
30:45 Do you mean 2001 pal? ;-) Loving these brief histories since I stumbled across them a few weeks back. Keep em coming!
+Dave Cork woooopsy
Vice City also had one of the coolest cheats in the series - Hovercraft cars! As the car gets into the water, the wheels change angle like a DeLorean for flight. :)
Wow.....This is gonna be a great video *grabs popcorn*
Man, I remember back when I was a kid, all of my friends had copies of either GTAIII, GTA:VC or GTA:SA, and they played them all the time in their PS2's, but me, I only had a PSOne, so I had to play either the original GTA or the improved GTA2.

Seriously, thanks for making this video, I already know I'm going to enjoy it! :D
AND DOUBLE PARKING!
i played grand theft auto as a teenager, and i haven't turned into a criminal 😎
have you by chance done one of these for the max Payne series?
+neevsmazda07 i have not. Parhaps in the future i will
Awesome thanks can't wait :)
Daniel Ibbertson please do!
Great video. You made me remember that time when I played GTA for the first time. That was downloading a illegal copy of GTA III when I was 12, because my laptop was crap. The Complete History Of... series is absolutely fantastic to binge when ever I'm bored. Thanks dude.
any chance of doing the history of NiGHTS?
I second this!
+Demon Dethchase this will defo happen. No doubt before the year is out
Daniel Ibbertson excellent, I'll be looking forward to it.
Will Pac Man's complete history be 2 hours in length?? plz!!
Great vid!
At 11:16, I would take out Doom and replace it with Wolfenstein 3-D. That what truly solidify the pantheon of historical games!
=-)
DeadStick Rhodes Doom was more influential than Wolfenstein 3D. Fuck off with that bullshit.
Liked before watching.
Liked before reading :D
Haha I did it too. My evening was made when the notification popped up!
Harley Quinn, sorry, had to give a thumbs down to your comment because of what your namesake stands for.
how could you say that?? harley quinn is an insane mass murderer!!! or are you just one of these people that like her look but dont know squat about the actual character

I spent many hours growing up flying tanks into parts of the game I didn't unlock yet. 3 was so excellent.
You mentioned the DOS game, but you should of used and mentioned the original DOS artwork box. You just added the later CD-ROM - PS1 like artwork
Also forgot to mention the other DMA games that inspired GTA. Other than body harvest there was Space Station Silicon Valley
Hipster Black Metal should *have, you dumb fuck.
Between yourself and Kim Justice, it's great to get these series reviews, from this side of the Atlantic. Great stuff fella!
Funnily enough, I think Grand Theft Auto 2 is the best game in the series. I loved the gang respect system in that one too.
I personally can't get my head around it.
Robert James Slessor “And remember respect is everything!”
_GTA IV_ is part of the HD Era, not 3D.
gta v was the best by far I think
Thanks Dan!
One thing I remember from playing London as a kid was my step-dad (playstation stick guy)
pointing out that the zig-zag road marking you see while driving around we're wrong as they didn't come out till a later date. Pointless facts!
I love how back then going from GTA III to Vice City was just a year. Its such a shame now that with graphics,
programming and meeting peoples expectations that it takes thm 6+ years .
I love that you talked about the table tennis game, everyone kept talking about the engine at the time and how that was a tech demo for the next GTA!
I know this is a long comment, I really enjoyed this video!
p.s. You didn't mention Hot Coffee! ;)
+GetBant hahaha i am so glad u enjoyed the vid bud. I was thinking of you whilst editing hoping you would like it :D
dude, San Andreas is clearly Las Angeles, not San Francisco.
San Andreas is a state consists of three metropolitan cities Los Santos, based on Los Angeles; San Fierro, based on San Francisco and Las Venturas, based on Las Vegas.
From Wikipedia:
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes place in 1992 within the state of San Andreas, which is based on sections of California and Nevada. It comprises three major fictional cities: Los Santos corresponds to Los Angeles, San Fierro corresponds to San Francisco, and Las Venturas corresponds to Las Vegas.
San Andreas in GTA 1 is based on Los Angeles. It didn't become a state until years later - it was originally just LA.
It's Los Angeles San Francisco and Las Vegas
San Andreas represents the west coast as a whole, seeing as it has Los Venturas which is Las Vegas
+mootbooxle you are more than welcome.my friend
Fabulous video. I'm glad you described Chinatown Wars as a Hidden gem as it's awesome top down (albeit slightly slanted) action. Funnily enough GTA 5 Online have released a top down stunt race - another call back to the DMA days.
Best game series ever. For PC titles, there's no misses. China Town Wars is also absolutely incredible.
Great video. Searched for a video on the history of GTA and got exactly what I wanted. Subscribed
Amazing episode, it was a blast to see all the GTAs lined up since I played most of them growing up aside from the "Stories" and "San Andres" which I only played like once or twice. Great job Slopes!
+Cooliex1986 cheers buddy
✋great video ,GT3 was my first time playing the series on the PS2 and have been hooked every since.
Bout fuckin time! GTA had that top down view option in III, IV, and V like the original. Loved that.
Amazing video full of good info charm and clearly very well researched Hope you do more complete histories of other franchises
+Detective Lizard more than welcome, love doing these vids
dude! I am sharing this on my social media! thanks fro making this video, even theres tons of other gta series history video, yours are one of the best, I never knew the the first ever gta campaign used negatif coverage, I learn something new again!
Excellent video. Wish more people in youtube made such a detailed and complete work. Respect.
I fucking knew that was Stamper. Man I miss his shit. His unique voice makes everything better. Just look at Battle Block Theater.
High five ! Please keep making more of these for those kids who are trying to appreciate old games!
San Andreas remains my favourite of the series due to the story but one of my favourite gaming memories has to be turning GTA5 on and being greeted by Trevor waking up in a skip. Hilarious! :'D
Also, high five! :)
+Zoë Kirk-Robinson high 5 zoe
The brilliant soundtrack is what really sold the immersion of Vice City... I've never seen a game (or even movie) that just oozed 1980's Miami quite like that, and not so much the realistic thing as a perfect replication of our thoughts and memory of the setting.
This is without a doubt the most comprehensive video you have done to date. Extremely well done.
I've only really had a passing interest in the GTA franchise up til now. But after wstching this I just might pick up GTA5 and give it a go. Thanks for your hard work and I look forward to more content from you!
+samurizzy gta5 is a defo play imo
High five dude!
The first GTA were a major thing for me and my buddies when we were lads on the verge of leaving school. We'd play it for hours at a time and I don't think any of us actually finished it or the other PS1 games. It was just too much fun going around causing havoc. Vice City and San Andreas are my favourites, although man San Andreas is filled with too much side stuff.
Well done on getting this video finished. Can't imagine how many hours of editing this took. Was quite the gargantuan effort.
+Mellow Gaming high 5 buddy :) snd yes It was an absolutly killer of an episode to finish
* High 5! *
That was an epic complete history Dan.
I have no idea how you don't have 100k plus subs! excellent videos. keep it up mate
+Michael Fitzpatrick thanks so much. Hopefully i will 1 day
^5 double hi5 I watched this video from start to finish for the second time today. This time I appreciate a little more how tough it must have been to fit the series history into an hour and think you did a good job introducing the first game which could otherwise be overlooked. Thanks for the review,
+kailomonkey ahhhhh dude thats so nice of you to take the time to comment. I really appreciate it :D
46:05 Ooohhh snap! Did I just hear the tune from GTA Chinatown Wars? Man that was my favourite PSP game!!
Thanks for an awesome episode, GTA is one of my favourite gaming franchises and your video covered the history very well.
+Troy Wilkins its defo worth testing out gta5 mate its a stella game. HIGH5
You should try to solve the Chiliad Mystery...
Woah awesome job Slopes on such a long and well edited video mate. Watched it all the way to the end and dang you got so much in that time. Stuff the high five, high ten instead :D
+Omegamario17 woooo double high 5 :) thanks mate. Very proud of this ep
this is by far the best history of gta series ive seen! great work! ;)
+daniel turner ahhhhh thanks dude. Was a serious passion project of mine for sure
wow! first reply from a successful youtuber! do you think your next project could be about the history of gaming PCs or the development of graphics cards over the years? that would be awesome!
That was a great Complete History video Daniel. Top notch work.
+BlackFlame450 thanks matey
Very thorough. I always enjoy a good slope's doc.
+Wardner213 ahhhhhh thanks matey
✋ just found your channel last night and so far, I bloody love everything about it!
