@9:35 The official figures for the Genesis/Sega CD are 61 colors (16 background and 15 each for the foreground, sprite, and window layer) out of a palette of 512. In fact, the Sega CD had tricks for drawing 256 colors onscreen at one time, and Shadow/Highlight Mode made it possible to access a palette of 3,375 colors, as seen later in Toy Story. Using color mixing and the higher resolution 320x448 interlaced mode, the Genesis could've kept going with decent arcade ports all the way to the release of the PlayStation 2 in 2000. Sadly, SEGA of Japan didn't see it that way.
The first time I ever saw Final Fight was in an arcade in Atlanta...they had it on this special station with three podiums that acted as controller panels and the screen was literally ten feet across and six feet high...the characters on the screen were HUGE...it was love at first sight...

Akira: "no, Andore wasn't based on Andre the Giant. He was based on my friend, Andre, who just happens to be a massive wrestler that looks EXACTLY LIKE ANDRE THE GIANT."
I understand trying to avoid a lawsuit, but it's as clear as day one who the basis for that character is. Look at Balrog and Mike Tyson. Hell, in Japan, Balrog is named M. Bison.
Yeah in street fighter 3rd strike doesn't Andore and someone do a faceoff and it meant to look like the Wrestlemania 3 stare down between Hulk Hogan and Andre? Thought Edi.E was based on the Big Bossman as well.
Was part of the Poison talk edited out? At 27:46 it awkwardly cuts from the explanation of what a Newhalf is and goes straight to the wrap up section of the video.
That Final part where the music played after completing all the stages, it felt like i was living the Final Fight story. I miss playing it at the arcade. My top favourite games at the arcade along with Willow, Midnight Resistance, Super Volleyball, Golden Axe, Street Fighter 2. But the whole Final Fight story was just unforgettable for me as a kid that time. Thank u for this review on Final Fight. My favourite childhood video game.
1989: Poison is a woman? We’ll get sued! Capcom: Say she’s transgender so we can get away with this. 2010: Poison is transgender? We’ll get sued! Capcom: Say she’s mysterious so we can get away with this.
Amazing isn't it? Back then showing a woman getting hit by a man was the worst thing the feminist movement could think of. These days, the feminists would complain that they changed a woman's role to a man's (implying they're now okay with a woman getting beat up by a man) then complain that her outfit was overly sexualized while the trans community would be complaining about a trans woman getting beaten up by a cis man. That's the problem with pandering to specific "rights movements", once you start that ball rolling, it's almost impossible to stop it, and even more impossible to keep it from rolling from one controversy to another. It's getting to the point where all you can do is just create the content you want and ignore them when they inevitably start complaining as there's no way to please them.
Final Fight and Double Dragon were my all time favorite franchises growing up. Probably why I'm obbssed with combat sports, Pro Wrestling and Martial arts in general. Lol
Andor not based on Andre the Giant, but actually a personal friend of the developer that happens to look just like him and is also called Andre. Yeah, right.
7 uears too late, but i was here just to say this. Mighty Final Fight needs more exposure. Even to this fay, its one my most faborite NES games of all time.
I am literally just getting to enjoy this game now, as my room mate acquired it on Sega CD last week. I really enjoyed the video, and am glad you seem to keep them coming.
Other than Double Dragon, this game series opened my eyes to the beat em up genre as a kid. Always hunted this cabinet down in arcades. Great review of the history.
I love the Final Fight series and I actually really liked Street Wise. I'm a sucker for beat em' ups even mediocre ones. Thanks for the vid. I love these complete history uploads.
@@slopesgameroom , I am not sure if you covered this little series of coincidences and parallels in your video, but I am more than convinced that there are a lot of parallels between Mike Haggar and real life former Marine turned professional wrestler turned government official Buford Pusser. Here are their comparisons. Mike Haggar - former professional wrestler for the CWA, or Capcom Wrestling Association. Buford Pusser - former professional wrestler that wrestled around the Chicago area, possibly for the the NWA, or National Wrestling Alliance, and its Chicago branch that it had at the time, (which later became the IWA, or International Wrestling Association), among other smaller organizations that have not been named that have since possibly been lost to the sands of time. (NWA-Chicago, which eventually became the IWA, also later became arguably one of the biggest, as well as most influential, professional wrestling organizations in the 1970s and 1980s, namely, the AWA, or the American Wrestling Association.) Mike Haggar - 6' 8', 297 lbs. Buford Pusser - 6' 6", 250 lbs. Mike Haggar - usually has a close cropped haircut, save for his appearance in Final Fight 3/Tough. Buford Pusser - yes, he also has a close cropped haircut. Mike Haggar - is a widower. Buford Pusser - also later became a widower. Mike Haggar - has a daughter. Buford Pusser- had a daughter and two sons, of which one of the sons was coincidentally named Mike. Mike Haggar - fought government corruption in a big city. Buford Pusser - fought government corruption in a small rural county. Mike Haggar - fought the corrupt cops in his local police department, as well as the Mad Gear, Skull Cross, Thugs, Jersey Thugs, Punx, Glowheads, and numerous other gangs, as well as people, in wrestling rings, bar fights, and underground fight clubs, both before and after his professional wrestling career. Buford Pusser - fought many professional wrestlers, may have also dabbled in occasional bar fights, as well as underground fight clubs, and fought the corrupt local police department, sheriff's department, pimps, prostitution rings, moonshine (illegal alcohol) manufacturing rings, drug cartels, the Dixie Mafia, and the State Line Mafia. Mike Haggar - fought corrupt cops in the police department where he lived (Edi E and Dave, among potentially others). Buford Pusser - fought corrupt cops in both a local police department and a sheriff's department (James Dickey and several other corrupt cops and sheriff's deputies). Mike Haggar - recruited people, both within his local government, as well as citizens, to help him fight the police corruption and gangs that plagued where he lived. Buford Pusser - also recruited people, both within his sheriff's department, as well as civilians, to help him fight the police corruption and gangs that plagued where he lived. Mike Haggar - has a penchant for using weapons in fights. Buford Pusser - also had a penchant for using weapons in fights. Mike Haggar - became a mayor. Buford Pusser - became a constable, a police officer, and a sheriff, then tried to run for a town mayor, and, presumably later, a county mayor, but was possibly assassinated before he could run for the town mayor position. Mike Haggar - lost a re-election bid (to become a mayor in his case). Buford Pusser - lost a re-election bid (to become a sheriff in his case). Yeah, there are a scary amount of parallels between both people. Also, yeah, Mike Haggar is a Yankee version of Buford Pusser.
Basically Final Fight was supposed to be a sequel to Street Fighter (that's why Street Fighter '89) but Capcom actually needed to compete with Double Dragon, so........... By changing the genre........... You need to change the title as well

Capcom addressing violence against Roxy and Poison as being okay because they are transgende, not women, has certainly not aged well Legendary game though! Awesome review!
As of the time of this video, the official stance of Capcom was that Capcom did not have an official stance on Poison. The history honestly isn't *that* complicated, but rather has been made complicated by shifting stances. The brief version, covering a few decades and some key figures, follows: Akira Yasuda created Poison and Roxy, female characters, for Final Fight. Yasuda has stated that, despite Capcom's later decisions, he created the characters to be women and he will always view them as such. During the game's (Japanese) development, Capcom had become seriously concerned about the climate in America. Capcom of Japan decided to make Posion and Roxy into newhalfs. While some blame this on Capcom of America, or say it was only Capcom of America, this was Capcom of Japan's stance. This is confirmed by character concept art for Poison and Roxy (which has newhalf written on it in katakana) as well as materials such as the Japanese manual for the Super Famicom port of Final Fight. Around the time of Final Fight Revenge, the common story was that Capcom of Japan and Capcom of America only disagreed on whether Poison was pre-op (Japan) or post-op (America). This was restated over a decade later by Yoshinori Ono, who was in charge of the Street Fighter franchise by that point. That brings us to 2011 and the development of Street Fighter x Tekken. A win quote where Ryu and Chun-Li stated that Poison was not a "real woman" blew up into a story. Capcom was receiving criticism and was in serious damage control mode. Damage control was so serious that, when an interviewer asked Ono about the controversy, another Capcom representative took over to state how Capcom was working closing with GLAAD to address anything that might be taken as offensive. In this interview, Ono stated that Capcom's official stance was that Capcom did not have an official stance on whether or not Poison was transgender. Ono admitted that Capcom was intentionally trying to appease everyone with this stance. Of note though is that Ono's claim that this stance was always Capcom's stance, quite bluntly, was a lie. Not only is there plenty of evidence that Poison had previously officially been transgender, Ono himself had four years prior stated it himself (when he reconfirmed the country split on pre/post-op status.)
"If you're not playing as Haggar, you're playing it wrong." Oh, come ON! I can understand that people are able to diss Carlos just because he's just a wannabe Cody or Guy, but who WOULDN'T want to play as a sexy blond-haired ninja chick? ;P
Lol, no joke, but I play as her since she is quite a beauty. Also, not to mention she plays like Guy, who is my main back when I was playing Final Fight on PS2 during my childhood.
It is a lazy ass port to the SNES. Also, if you want far better Capcom beat-em-up/side scrolling brawlers for that system, then King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, and Captain Commando are far better ports of other Capcom arcade titles than Final Fight ever was on that system.
I love your complete history videos Mr. Ibbertson, keep the up the awesome work. If it aint to much to ask, can you make a complete history of my favorite series (Front Mission); there isnt enough love of this series on youtube.
Great video. I have Golden Axe in one of my arcade machines and Final Fight is currently at the post office waiting to be collected later today - and I have never played it before! Can't wait :-)
Nice video, great footage and facts. I respectfully doubt that fact that Andore wasn't based on Andre the Giant though. I mean come on, he had a mate called Andre who was also huge with the distinguishable mop of hair? Hmmm. More than likely it was a cagey answer as they probably didn't ask permission to use his image.
What the hell is the game @26:20 - 26:22???? I can't seem to find info on it, and the two names he said at this part(capcom fighting jam and card fighters) aren't it.
"Mayor Haggar: Currently, my gang is controlling a portion of the city between 4th Street and 19th. We would like to dominate the city. Could you please introduce legislation that would allow us to do this. Thank you. P.S. - We all voted for you last election"
I'm going to have to disagree that the only way to experience Final Fight at its best is to emulate the arcade version via MAME or something similar, I'd argue that the arcade emulated version on the PS2's Capcom Classics is a really nice version too.
I wish they would make a new 2d beat em up final fight in hd. Not a remake but a entirely new final fight game. Final fight was there for me in a time that was horrible. I spent a Christmas in 90 just pumping quarters into the game at a convenience store. It kept me mind off things. I think I had beat that game that day countless times. Needless to say final fight is one of a few video games that are really important to me. Thanks for making this history of video.
Hey man, I just recently discovered your channel, and I've already binged over half of your complete history series. Please please please, do a complete history of the Kunio Kun series! You teased it in the intro to your double dragon video,, and I think that would be amazing!
"Oh my car" - my favourite bit. I always felt sorry for Nintendo fans that the superior port of Final Fight was on Mega CD. The Amiga version wasn't too shabby either.
I actually know final fight as "that game that has the hot pink haired chick in it", just like people know darkstalkers as "that game that has boob demon lady and cat girl in it"
I remember finding this in an arcade as a kid. At this point I had Streets of Rage at home, and thought this was a knock off. It came first in my world, therefore it must be first for everyone. Regardless, it felt like I was playing a GI Joe cartoon, punching my way through may quarters and my mother's patience.
Two big problems with this video: It doesn't mention how Final Fight 3 had entire randomized levels and branching paths to help replayability even more (seriously there's like 4 alternate levels in the game, full featured ones) but also you failed to bring up the HORRIBLE attempt at bringing back Final Fight in 3D with a plot about zombies in the early 2000s. It wasn't pretty.
I saw this in my notifications and was confused. I Started watching and kept thinking "man I know I've seen this". then noticed the "re-upload". I'm slow.
I bought a New Nintendo 3DS just to play Final Fight 1,2 and 3 ahaha.. I'm a sucker when its comes to beat em up.. but still Capcom's Alien vs. Predators the Arcade is my favorite beat em up game..
I believe Final Fight Arcade use 3 buttons, the 3rd button for break away when being lifted by Andore if pressed fast enough and also used to faster rise animation ..not sure if other arcade centers also use the same configuration
mate Final Fight for SNES is such a soft target - but the SFC version is fantastic. was the most advanced fighting game for the home technically at the time and still stands up to this day. I find it boring that people bash the game just because. I was there at the time as where you, felt so many people overlooked the qualities this game had
Other beat-em-up essentials for the SNES: Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers, TMNT IV: Turtles In Time, Super Double Dragon, Sonic Blast Man II, and Spiderman & Venom: Maximum Carnage.
I just bought the hand held X9S from eBay for $37. It has tons of games including Final Fight and it's a direct arcade copy with good sound and response. I very much recommend it. It also has Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Zero, Mega Man, Super Mario, Sonic, and a bunch of others. ...for $37!!!! It also plays movies and you can record video.
Street Fighter and Final Fight are both set within the same universe. The original Street Fighter and Final Fight 1 both take place at the same time. Also FF2 is set the same time as Street Fighter Alpha 2 and the reason Guy wasn't in FF2 is because he was pursuing Bison in SFA2.
Son Goku also in Alpha 1, it took place after FF1 since it shows Rolento working for Bison after the fall of Mad Gear and Charlie Nash was pursuing Bison and fought Rolento
The original Final Fight takes place in 1989, and Street Fighter two is a bit later. Actually if you pay attention, SFA is BEFORE SF2. So, it doens't take place at the same time. However there is some contradictions saying the Alpha is BEFORE the 1989. So....
Gotta list of characters out of movies that surprisingly resemble much of the (Final fight) characters list out of order: "romero" from the 1981 john carpenter film escape from new york! "Eva" from the 1987 peter George film surf Nazi's must die! "Fender" from the 1989 film cyborg note that even some of the minor enemy roles resembles some of the underlings as well in cyborg ! That's pretty much what i was able too gather up from my 80s movies collection 😎🤔📝🍻

Man
This Videos are Awesome
Thank you two, great work
(I love Saturday Night Slam masters)
Glad to see this back up!
"If you're not playing as Haggar, you're playing it wrong." Oh, come ON! I can understand that people are able to diss Carlos just because he's just a wannabe Cody or Guy, but who WOULDN'T want to play as a sexy blond-haired ninja chick? ;P
That maki, you can play her in Street fighter ahpla 3 and capom vs snk
I did not know you can play as Maki in "Street Fighter Alpha 3", though I do remember her being a playable character in the "Capcom Vs. SNK" games.
Lol, no joke, but I play as her since she is quite a beauty. Also, not to mention she plays like Guy, who is my main back when I was playing Final Fight on PS2 during my childhood.
29:40 that ending line was beautiful because I too strive to be a great gamer
Personally I love Final Fight for SNES; sure it doesn't have 2 player but it's a damn fine port and one of the best beat em ups on the SNES!
AlexElectric9001 Agreed. Snes in general is a great system
It is a lazy ass port to the SNES. Also, if you want far better Capcom beat-em-up/side scrolling brawlers for that system, then King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, and Captain Commando are far better ports of other Capcom arcade titles than Final Fight ever was on that system.
just found my new favourite utube channel thanks mate
I love your complete history videos Mr. Ibbertson, keep the up the awesome work.
If it aint to much to ask, can you make a complete history of my favorite series (Front Mission); there isnt enough love of this series on youtube.
Enemies that look like they just left a NoFX concert! I love it.
...more like a Ministry concert in the case of the hazmat shirts
Yes we do read the TH-cam descriptions
Holly shit how did I not found this channel before, you guys are hilarious 🤣🤣
We could make a drinking game out all these videos. Every time Daniel says, "just my opinion" you take a shot.
Check the rest of the complete history series here... goo.gl/JjBIHi
Daniel Ibbertson 12:34 uri geller pulls a knife..... doesn't bend it though
Great video. I have Golden Axe in one of my arcade machines and Final Fight is currently at the post office waiting to be collected later today - and I have never played it before! Can't wait :-)
Ohh! What version of the FF music is it that starts @0:50? Could that be from the X68K pack-in audio disc?
Nice video, great footage and facts. I respectfully doubt that fact that Andore wasn't based on Andre the Giant though. I mean come on, he had a mate called Andre who was also huge with the distinguishable mop of hair? Hmmm. More than likely it was a cagey answer as they probably didn't ask permission to use his image.
Incognito Icognito uh no man. Hugo was definitely based on Andre. The Final Fight series took heavy inspiration from Streets of Fire
I love the respect given to Final Fight 3 in this video. Sometimes I think I'm the only person who knows about that game.
love this game, such a shame they never continued the series
Well, they did continue it, but Streetwise wasn't exactly a spectacular finale.
What the hell is the game @26:20 - 26:22???? I can't seem to find info on it, and the two names he said at this part(capcom fighting jam and card fighters) aren't it.
What I love about your videos is that the make me want to fire up the games in them. Next chance I get, I'm playing some FF on Coin-Ops! ;)
What an amazing video! Loved it!!! :)
"Mayor Haggar: Currently, my gang is controlling a portion of the city between 4th Street and 19th. We would like to dominate the city. Could you please introduce legislation that would allow us to do this. Thank you. P.S. - We all voted for you last election"
I like the fact as mayor he can beat up all the people who didn't vote for him, Ha, ha!
I'm going to have to disagree that the only way to experience Final Fight at its best is to emulate the arcade version via MAME or something similar, I'd argue that the arcade emulated version on the PS2's Capcom Classics is a really nice version too.
I would also say that the Sega/Mega CD version is pretty damned good on its own too... especially the Pyron color hack version.
Another great vid Dan. I'll have to check out some of Game Dave's stuff.
I still have the t-shirt for streetwise from when I bought it.
Hey man, I just recently discovered your channel, and I've already binged over half of your complete history series. Please please please, do a complete history of the Kunio Kun series! You teased it in the intro to your double dragon video,, and I think that would be amazing!
I had never heard of "Mighty Final Fight" until I saw it preloaded on a PVP (a PSP looking Nintendo emulator with roms). I actually love the game.
Mighty Final Fight dare I say is one of the best beat em ups on the NES. Soundtrack is top notch
Streetwise is mindless fun
I enjoy it, but I can see why others don't
Not really early-2000s, but mid-2000s. I hadn't played enough of that game, but it seemed that it didn't work.
I fell into all the beat-em ups in order that they came out. I didn't play the snes version. I played the one for sega cd when it came out.
@15:15 what is the song from the final fight 2 commercials playing in the background.
It's definitely time for a Final Fight Collection of all the games in the series.
What happened at 27:46?
You also forgot that the Amarican version of the original Final Fight Poison and Roxie are removed and replaced with Billy and Sid
LOVE Mighty Final Fight. Also, the Final Fight franchise is pretty good.
I saw this in my notifications and was confused.
I Started watching and kept thinking "man I know I've seen this".
then noticed the "re-upload".
I'm slow.
Aaron Nicewonger Same as! Lol
I NOTICED IT IN 15:07 LOL
Well cool Im not the only one haha....
I bought a New Nintendo 3DS just to play Final Fight 1,2 and 3 ahaha.. I'm a sucker when its comes to beat em up.. but still Capcom's Alien vs. Predators the Arcade is my favorite beat em up game..
I discovered and played Mighty Final Fight a while ago I love it!
Well I'm glad for accidentally watching this twice, because it made me realise you forgot to talk about Seven Sons ;D
I believe Final Fight Arcade use 3 buttons, the 3rd button for break away when being lifted by Andore if pressed fast enough and also used to faster rise animation
..not sure if other arcade centers also use the same configuration
mate Final Fight for SNES is such a soft target - but the SFC version is fantastic. was the most advanced fighting game for the home technically at the time and still stands up to this day. I find it boring that people bash the game just because. I was there at the time as where you, felt so many people overlooked the qualities this game had
Love Final Fight, my all time favourite 👍🏻
I always thought he was called slash because he was tooled up... xxx
You can get FF 1 Arcade Ver. on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 for PS2, Or.... buy and beat Final Fight StreetWise to unlock it...?
Luís Filipe Duarte ..or buy the Capcom Digital Collection on Xbox360 or PS3.
What's the name of the side scrolling beat 'em up seen at 26:19 ? It seems nice
Other beat-em-up essentials for the SNES: Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers, TMNT IV: Turtles In Time, Super Double Dragon, Sonic Blast Man II, and Spiderman & Venom: Maximum Carnage.
I still play that game for ps2 which capcom classics
I just bought the hand held X9S from eBay for $37.
It has tons of games including Final Fight and it's a direct arcade copy with good sound and response.
I very much recommend it. It also has Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Zero, Mega Man, Super Mario, Sonic, and a bunch of others.
...for $37!!!!
It also plays movies and you can record video.
just discovered this chan.. great work subbed!
And Befor Final Fight is Slam Master and Ring of Destruction.
And Sakura study in Rival School.
Hopefully Capcom considers the idea of doing Final Fight 4, they have to at some point.
The original Final Fight takes place in 1989, and Street Fighter two is a bit later.
Actually if you pay attention, SFA is BEFORE SF2.
So, it doens't take place at the same time.
However there is some contradictions saying the Alpha is BEFORE the 1989. So....
Have you ever got so pissed when you run out quaters you press the buttons real fast to go ahead and blow him up . 😅
I have the ps2 version it was in the cap com classics collection
Anyone know what the game at 26:20 is called with haggar and that street fighter character?
final fight revenge poligonal characters remind me rival school, but we all know how much much much better is the last
I read the info box for the videos 😜
Gotta list of characters out of movies that surprisingly resemble much of the (Final fight) characters list out of order: "romero" from the 1981 john carpenter film escape from new york! "Eva" from the 1987 peter George film surf Nazi's must die! "Fender" from the 1989 film cyborg note that even some of the minor enemy roles resembles some of the underlings as well in cyborg ! That's pretty much what i was able too gather up from my 80s movies collection 😎🤔📝🍻
