Definitely agree with the two shoe rotation. The SB2 can do it all. The foam and feel of the SB2 becomes perfect after 30-50 miles of break in. MetaSpeed Sky Paris for race day. 👍
@Kofuzi I love what you are doing by showing the brand’s shoe line up, starting with the daily trainer, and then boiling it down to a 3 or 2 shoe rotation! If I got my way, I’d have 5 shoe rotations in multiple brands, but most “normal”people won’t (or can’t) do that. The 2-3 shoe rotation for folks working on PBs and racing is awesome advise.
I used to run 3-4 times a week without shoe rotation, ended up buying a new pair of shoe every 800km because they're completely worn out after that. Now I run 5-7 times a week with 3 shoes rotation, all of them already passing 1000km mileage, all the fresh feeling has gone but overall they're still working fine. Not gonna lie, the initial investment of buying 3 pairs of shoes emptied my pocket😆, but in the long run I found the economical value was worth it especially if you run a lot. Turned out the 'rest day' also applies to shoe foam which prolongs their lifespan.
Whoa. Rare Sat morning drop! I guess Mr. Fuzi put extra time into perfecting it knowing how many Novablast fans there are in the audience. You can almost hear us chanting like Romans: Novablast! Novablast! It's the gold standard for DTs. I'd buy it regardless of what the reviews say, but I'm glad it's still great. Evo SL may be a category killer, but it's vaporwear. I also like your new approach of building up a rotation and then tearing it back down again. Superblast and Metaspeed literally FTW!
Since some of the other NB5 reviews seemed luke warm on the NB5, I was definitely waiting for Kofuzi’s review. I did decide to pick up another pair of NB4s since they were on sale. 🙂
Exactly what I needed to know. I tried on version 4 and felt way to stiff and decided to no go for it. Knowing the V5 is more comparable to the V3 is great to know.
Have watched this one a few times and had to come back again to say it’s brilliant how you really break down places for the rotation. 5 shoe rotation is fun , but you nailed it with the NB5, SB and metaspeed. Got rid of the magic speed 4 in my rotation and am using the metaspeed edge Paris I retired from racing to fill that slot, have a new one for the season. NB5 for bulk and SB for longer or tempo. Easily found room for both and I don’t see how a lot try comparing the two when they feel so different.
Found the Novablast 4's through your channel and it's without a doubt the greatest shoe I've ever run in. Personally, I only get about 400 miles before they're beyond their usable running life but I'm still on my 2nd pair. Super nervous about any changes made in the 5th generation but I suppose time will tell.

hate to say it since I'm a Novastan but I might skip this one since the 4 was so perfect for me. Perfect well-rounded concise review as always, Mike. 13/10, will probably watch again at some point.
Love the insight on the asics lineup. I previously rotated between the novablast 4 & Superblast. Recently I just use superblast 2’s for everything. Luckily ordered multiple pairs.
Seriously the best shoe reviews out there! Also, like kofuzi said..if you wanna get a Novablast look out for the 3s cos they're so heavily discounted and imo better than the 4s ( can't speak for the 5s yet).
As someone who came on board at version 4 and enjoyed that as my go to daily ( even over my SB2) I’m looking forward to this one and have it pre ordered. As always kofuzi stellar straight forward review! You’re my go to for no nonsense reviews
I loved the 2 and 3. Didn't need the 4 but now that I am looking for a new pair again the 5 has been on the top of my list for a while. It sucks that all reviewers only seem to have the purple variant because I would love to see how the yellow one actually looks.
Great review. I’ve loved the Novablast since v2. I love the MagicSpeed 4 as well, they were my choice for NYC. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Mike! Review was top notch as always. 👍
just ran a marathon in novablast 4 like 3 days ago, and it had to be like the most comfortable shoe for me. like it felt amazing, when i wore it before for like small runs it was awkward but after that 45 min mark it was gold.
I loved the Novablast 3s. In fact, I went through 3 pairs of them. I didn't like the Novablast 4s as much. I really love the Superblast 2s. In fact, it's the shoe I reach for practically every run. I'm not sure I'll get the Novablast 5s. I might just pick up another pair of Superblast 2s.
From Asics I might get the GT 2000 13 before I get the Nova Blast 5. That is for two reasons: first I still got the NB4 with only 100 miles and second is that I'm loving the Gel-Kayano 31 ... just did another reasonable quick long run in the rain and the shoes have an amazing grip and the upper don't get too heavy with the water. So the GT 2000 might be even faster and nimble shoes and still have the great grip, better than a NB4 at least. Oh man, so many great shoes from Asics ... and the Gel-Nimbus 27 is also almost already here ...
Ey dude, you’re such an inspiration for making running shoes reviews. I’ll make a similar video about the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Filming the B Roll soon!
Thanks for that Mike. Haven’t regretted NB since the days of chaos based on your reviews. Looks like I’ll go NB4 for cheap then (still working my way through couple pairs of NB3 which I got on discount when NB4 came out) then get the evo sl. Adios pro are the racers of choice (though that’s probably because asics don’t do uk 13 in racers or SB. Anyway, appreciate the honestly and impartiality as always. Good stuff. Cheers
Confirm, superlbast 2 are really shoes for everything included very fast paces. Only thing is on slower pace you can’t enjoy the soft sensation like some other shoes does , so, for recovery and slow pace are not the best. 3 shoes is the perfect rotation to have, race shoes, tempo shoes and a slow pace super bouncy shoe.
Traction has always ben an issue for me in the NB. Super slick on the roads down here with the high humidity or rain. Plenty of days, I have to just go back in and change them for another shoe. Gonna pass finally until they put on some better outsole compound.
You’re the second person I’ve seen say that. But the Novablast 4 was launched during New York City Marathon 2023, so that would have been November. And the Novablast 5 releases Dec 1. So over 12 months. Is that too soon?
Oh and BTW, I recently managed to grab a pair of Kinvara Pros. It's end of season and I'm finding some good deals. Wow. What an interesting shoe. It's what the Mach X 2 should have been. I would not have thought to compare it to the EE1 as you did, but I can kind of see it. Since there's no plate or outsole rubber at the back of the shoe, I find myself becoming a heelstriker even if normally I'm not one -- just to enjoy the squishiness. But this, in turn, makes me run slower. So I look strange running slow in a shoe with rocketship colorway. It's the least favorite of my 4 illegal stack height shoes, but I still have a use case: for long, slow social runs, where I'm obligated to make conversation (even if I don't really want to). 😉
I think the magicspeed 4 is underrated in the rotation. Couldn't get the SB2, so I used it for my marathon pace and threshold workouts. Great bounce and protects the legs well, even at recovery paces. Long runs go to the nimbus and daily's on the NB4 for now.
Novablast 4 and Metaspeed Sky rotation here, really enjoying the daily trainer and speed work out combo this year. Although the next fun upgrade will be in 3 shoes rotation with superblast 2, metaspeed sky paris and of course novablast 5.
Silly that asics have basically gone with an outsole like the superblast 1 had which used to pick up stones in the gaps, these look like they will have the same issue.
Hi Kofuzi, whats your takeaways between Novablast 5 and Ride 17 as daily trainer? Been eyeing on this two for marathon training. Looking for comfortable shoe that can handle 25-35km long run. Im M27, 5'9", 158lbs (174cm, 71kg), training 35-42 kpw with Pegasus 39. My longest run is 24km at 6:19/km, 5K PB at 26:15 (5:15/km), and fastest 1K at 3:40/km. Currently aim for sub 1:55 half mara and sub 4:10 marathon. Plan to build 2 shoe rotation with Saucony Ride 17/Asics Novablast 5 for daily trainer, and Zoom Fly 6/Saucony Endrophin Pro 4 for long run and race day shoe..
I like the outsole. Too many shoes wear away very quickly. I want that durability. I agree with the cushion on the tongue and heel. It could be reduced.
I'm finally showing Nike the door and getting these. Very disappointed in custom Nike Zoom Invincible Run 3. I wear a size US 9 what should size should in the Novo 5 please, im mail ordering.
Love Kofuz and have lots of time for his opinions. But, "we don't typically associate Lightstrike Pro with durability..." Wait, whoa, what🤔? I think most of us think it's by FAR the most resilient and durable superfoam. Like borderline indestructible. Upper and outsole always going to go before the Lightstrike Pro does. Surprised me with that take.
I’ve not tested full lightstrike pro in a daily training situation. Maybe others are using their Adios Pro on daily training runs. I don’t. And just as we all agree (I think) on the idea that rotating shoes extends their life, using a lightstrike pro shoe for workouts only essentially rotates or rests their usage in a way that is different than how I’d use a daily trainer. The closest example I’d think are the Adizero SL2 and the Boston 12. But those shoes have significant amounts of non-pro lightstrike that muddle the analysis. I just haven’t personally done the validation. And as tempting as it is to take the word of the product and marketing people who assure me that the Evo SL has passed their durability testing, I just need to see for myself
Just picked up the Novablast 5's today. Hoping they'll feel good on long runs and hills. Question: Why do so many trainers/racers have such thick heels? Aren't most runners mid-foot strikers? Why not prioritize support there?
i have about the same pace with the novablast 4 vs the endorphin speed 1 but i can run longer, have more energy and feel less tired on the novablast 4. Great shoe.
From my experience (AP2, AP3, TS8, Prime X), Lightstrike Pro is a remarkably durable superfoam. IMO no need to fear the longevity of the Evo SL. What about SL2 as a NB5 comp?
I’m not trying to trick anyone. As I mentioned in the buying guide section, the Novablast 4 and Novablast 3 are great alternatives to consider right now, especially considering the price
I wish you would have mentioned where the Gel Nimbus fits in the Asics lineup. I'm looking for a max cushion show and wondering which Asics is the softest ride
it fits in the same space in a lineup that the Glideride Max would fit. The use cases are similar, but they are designed for a different set of preferences. If you don't like the Novablast and Glideride Max, or if you have been a longtime Cumuls and Nimbus person, then the Cumulus is an alternative to the Novablast and the Nimbus is an alternative to the Glideride Max. My apologies that I didn't discuss it more explicitly here - I've done it a couple of times in other ASICS videos.
"If you watch this channel regularly you probably won't get just one shoe" I've never felt more seen

Thank you for the presenting the pared-down, 3- and 2-shoe lineups.

Bandit
Specifically from the bandit x asics nyc collection
From my experience (AP2, AP3, TS8, Prime X), Lightstrike Pro is a remarkably durable superfoam. IMO no need to fear the longevity of the Evo SL. What about SL2 as a NB5 comp?
SL2 is a bit more firm. Rides more like a Velocity or perhaps an older Pegasus than a Novablast
Can't trick me. My blast 4 are still running strong!
I’m not trying to trick anyone. As I mentioned in the buying guide section, the Novablast 4 and Novablast 3 are great alternatives to consider right now, especially considering the price
Hey Kofuzi, which would you pick as a daily trainer between the mach 6 and the novablast 5?
I’m liking the Matrix glitches 0:30
