With the arrival of the Novablast 5, the price of the 4 went down, so I got a new pair of Novablast 4, and later next year I'll go with the 5 if nothing better is on the market at that time
Did you check out the manufacturing month and year? I see on the internet that if the shoe is sitting unused for more than 6 months, it loses the quality, becomes hard. Which is why they are on offer.
Collected my NB5’s today as my daily trainer, FINALLY found a pair of Superblast 2’s and ordered them up for my faster runs and race days… oh, and also delighted with my recently ordered Ben Parkes long sleeve red training top!
I've done just on 100k in my pair of Novablast 5 now, I'm really enjoying them for my daily easy running. They are fine for doing some strides at the end of an easy run, but I feel like they don't feel so great for tempo or threshold paces which I used to feel the Novablast 4 was quite good at. My local running store owner said that slight shift in use case will make more sense when asics release some new models towards the middle of next year.
I went through all versions of the Novablast with pleasure. The TR versions remain my favorites, as you mention, for the most improved grip. Will try this one when the TR comes out
Did my first run in these yesterday after using the 4's for the past few months, really liked them to be fair, didn't find the width to be an issue as someone with a slimmer foot. Going to be using them for my daily runs alongside using Superblast 2 for long runs
@@jimanryu if there's chances at all that you might run when the ground is ever so slightly damp, steer away from any Asics shoe that has "blast" in the name. THEY DONT WORK in conditions other than complete bone dry.
I bought the pegasus plus and they gave me massive blisters after like 7km 3 times in a row I fixed it buy buying the Novablast 5... Nova have more cushion and less blisters, would recommend !
Bought the Novablast 5 and the Novablast 4TR. Went for a quick run in both, with an increase in pace in both. I immediately prefered the feel of the NB4. Felt faster, and more responsive. So I returned the NB5. I'm on the heavier side, and am a forefoot striker. Oh and the grip on the TR version is exceptional. A plus in the autumn/winter months. 👍🏾
@@MrJermson The grip is a serious step up from the normal version of the shoe. Good in wet conditions. Great for light trails. Even noticable on dry roads. Also due to there being more rubber underfoot, the durability of the outsole significantly increases. The increase in weight due to there being more rubber is hardly noticable, and the ride of the shoe is pleasant on the roads. The only down side, is that there are only two colour options, when it comes to the NB4tr.
I own the NB4 TR as well and it's the best daily shoe I've ever owned. Couldn't be more happy. I was wondering whether it's worth upgrading to the 5s as well or buy another pair of 4 TR.
I like it. Im female but got the mens version as i just love the turquoise colour. Had to size down but other than that i think its really nice. Its got more bounce than NB4 which i like. I think NV3 is the best
I've always been a Pegasus person and I bought it blindly cause I knew what shoe it is and it was an "affordable" option. After the price increase I now bought the novablast 5 and I can't believe what I was missing on for an even lower price ! It's not great on wet surface but I can still deal with that.
Due to taking 7 weeks off to recover from neck surgery I only have 160km in my NovaBlast 4s which I bought after seeing your review. Coming from my Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23s the NovaBlasts are much much nicer and faster to run in. Keep the reviews coming!
Thanks for the video Ben! I am using the Novablast 4 after seeing you recommend them in a previous video, and I'm so so happy with them that I bought a second pair that I'll use for my first ever marathon in London in April!
Just had my first run in the 5 & love them. The 4 was my favourite shoe of this year & the 5 will be the same. As You say Ben, Definitely softer & wider & that suits me well. Looking forward to picking up the TR for winter, but for running in the Aussie summer, this will be great.
Have both the nb4 and nb5. To me the novablast 4 are good daily trainers that you can also get a bit of pace out of (set my 5k pb in them). The 5's seem to be a slightly bigger shoe and definitely feel like more of an easy/long cruiser. Very comfortable shoe if thats what youre looking for. If youre looking to get pace out of them id look elsewhere.
I love my 5's (and bought the Novablast 4 based on your recommendation). The Novablast 5 DOES come in wide (just not in the same colorways as the standard width).
Glad you got hold of it for the unbiased review. Have v4 and find it a bit bland (neither cushioned or responsive). The outsole is terrible on v4 and I don’t use in low light (which is most morning runs) or damp and wet (most of the rest of the days until summer!). Too bad the outsole isn’t fixed or I’d consider the other improvements given the price. Superblast 2 has no such grip issues or the SL2 so I’ll stick with them for now.
Thanks for the review Ben :) as mentioned on Strava yesterday got the Novablast 5 all wrapped up under the tree - in the same colour as you as well! I love my Novablast 4's it copes with anything I throw at it....training run, long runs and 10k races it handles it all so well. I hope that the Novablast 5 continues in the same vein, I will let you know my thoughts. Cheers!
I just took mine out for their first run (easy pace) on a very rainy day here in DC. While I could sense a slight bit of slippage, I wouldn't say it was anywhere near the pair of Novablast 3s I owned. I would say the grip in the rain is slightly less than that of the Superblast 2's I own, but I don't think it's an overriding concern. Overall I think they're probably fine for most runners in the rain.
I’ve been blown away with the latest version. It’s very similar to the v1, which I loved. The 3 was ok, but didn’t enjoy the 4 as much. Might be my shoe of the year.
I’m so looking forward to getting this, especially in the purple/coral colour. I loved the NB4 so hoping this is just as good. On the issue of slipping I’ve run in NB3 & 4 on tarmac, concrete pavement and gravelly pavement and never had any slipping issues in the wet??? Love the review 👍👍
Really appreciate this review. Validates my decision to buy a second Novablast 4 at my local Asics outlet right before the V5 was released on a bogo deal. I definitely prefer a slightly firmer shoe, and while the v4 outsole isn't great, I did do a rainy half marathon in them last weekend without any slipping and sliding. Weirdly enough, I find myself reaching for the NB4 over the Superblast 2 (I know, I don't get it either).
@1angelrunner yes, I have both of them so I knew how it felt. I'm still using the Novablast OG, the durability is insane. The Superblast is ok, but I find myself always taking other shoes over it. That says lot in terms of my enjoyment of it..lacking.

I love the 5. I think it is the best show I have run in. I have the same colour way as you. I had to drive to two stores to get it. So glad I did. They look sensational.
Actually the grip is only a problem on wet sleek surfaces. I tried the N3, couple of days ago, on wet artificial turf and wet forrest trail. Found the grip good 👍
Novablast 5 is currently not available on Asics UK website. Any clue why website says "coming soon"? Makes no sense as it was available before. Sale went live on 1st of December. Shoe is available on many other sites but Asics...
Thanks for the review brother, quality content as always. They actually do offer this in a wide (2E). Ironically I wear a 4E in their kayanos but wear a D in this.. I've got about 40 miles on them and they do also stretch out after some use too and become even wider! I would never buy the wide version but every other pair of shoes I wear is either 2E or 4E. Odd.
Hey Ben! I bought your level 4 Half Marathon training plan, really enjoying it so far but just wondering your thoughts on my easy runs: if I run to heart rate my easy runs tend to be 5:45-6:00/km, but in the plan it's asking me to run my easy runs 5:04-5:36/km - what should I do? hit the paces or aim to keep it within heart rate? I recently ran 5k PB of 19:18, so I feel like the 90 min half is within my grasp. Love the Long Runs in the plan by the way!!
I’m really surprised that you have had issues with the NB4/other ASICS models in wet weather! I live in Vancouver and I’ve never had any issues with slipping in ASICS…I do 99% of my running in them (NB4, Nimbus 25/26 & SB2). I also never cancel runs due to rain either, so it’s not just light rain I’m running in.
great video - great shoes, got them on release date - i personally prefer them over the nb4s because they have more room, the 4s just were to thight for me. i really liked the nb3, wasn´t a fan of the nb4, but really like the nb5 again :)
I like the saucony endorphin speed trainers but bought a pair of asic Kayano and absolutely hate them and that is now putting me off trying the novablast but will probably still end up trying them 😂
They feel great for my long easy runs, but it's not as good as the 3 and 4 for tempo and interval runs. They feel too sluggish when I try to run fast in them.
Would love to try these buy for some reason asics don't do size 43. So 42.5 is just too short and 43.5 is overall abit big. 43 would be perfect but they don't seem to think anyone would wear a 43 despite having half sizes at other sizes.
Mate I genuinely don't know how you have such a bad grip in wet weather. I ran a super hilly half marathon race in the Novablast 4 and had great grip, I was actually surprised at how grippy it was. And for reference I was doing like 3min/ km in the downhills, under the rain.
After using the glideride max w/ the FFblastmax foam I bought these as well and I'm hit or miss on the softness, coming from the GRM It's definitely a learning curve
I'm in the same place. The Novablast is almost too soft with no guidance. I think I prefer the Glideride Max which guides you and works surprisingly well for Tempo runs. I prefer it to the Superblast 2. I think the Novablast will be just a short distance easy run shoe for me.
@@paulmulksI really like it. The rocker, Eva plate and the 2 different foams really work for me. Only done one run in the Novablast 5 so far (coming back from injury) but it's softer and not as stable as the Glideride Max. The GRM is softer than the Novablast 4 IMO at least in the forefoot landing. Novablast 5 is softer than both.
@@didiervanrompaey I never ran in the 1 but got the 2 recently and with the changed rubber compound (Asics grip) on the outsole it's been perfectly fine in wet conditions! And I live in the PNW in Canada so all my runs (~80K so far) have been in wet conditions on wet pavement, sometimes with leaves and a bit of mud and some light gravel / non technical trail as well. I'd say go for the Superblast 2 if the only thing holding you back was trepidation on wet traction based on your experience with the 1's as it has been a non-issue for me with the 2's.
As of today (10 Dec) There are ZERO, as in no sizes or colours, of Mens NB5 on the UK Asics site. I guess somewhere a shipping container has gone missing for EVERYTYHING to be listed as "coming soon" Ive been a big fan of Nb1-3 but I find myself slower in the 4th version. No idea why. Makes me question whether I'll get the 5th version if its softer... Also as Ben mentioned in the video. The laces are RIDICULOUSLY long. I ended up chopping my down
Had the 3 les and absolutely hated them.. been using the noosa tri (14/15) for most of my daily training and nimbus 25 for easy/ recovery runs but tempted to give the 5 another chance
Would the Novablast 5 and Triumph 21 be a good rotation? Novablast for every day trainer. And Triumph for long, progression runs and for a first half marathon & first marathon race shoe?
Wouldn't recommend this for heavier runners, the foam is way too soft to maintain stability. I owned a pair of NB 3's and had to retire them at 340km as this midsole had twisted from constant overpronation as all the foam wanted to do each step was collapse inwards. Never had this problem with any other running shoes I've owned. Good rule of thumb for a heavier runner is to get a shoe with stiffer foam as they will compress well and give plenty of bounce at heavier bodyweight. 98kg for reference.
Im a big asics fan, but just stick to their lower stacked models (hyperspeed, tartheredge). No one is really doing reviews on the low stack shoes "of recent" which id love to see. Tried the novablast 4 and it did not work well for me. Too much stack height, foam, cushion, etc. Felt like running in quick sand. But great for mall-walking. 😊
Great vid Ben Why oh why can't they nail the wet weather grippier outsole ? Maybe a possible business opportunity for somebody ! Attaching a outsole that's safer on cobbles, drain covers, wet leaves etc ! Like the look of that trail version. What's your projected bill for what 2025's unleashing ? 😂
@@andrewmason32 it is indeed really light and nimble but the midsole is quite stiff, whereas the novablast has more give. Therefore, the Novablast is a better no-fuss daily trainer whereas the Superblast can feel clunky at slower paces. This stiffness is what makes the Superblast great at longer distances, however. I think the Novablast shines as a daily trainer whereas the Superblast is suited more towards fast and longer runs.
I do prefer a softer novablast now the superblast range exists. The original novablasts felt like they had a nice USP but now the Superblast exists I felt they can overlap but now the ASICS line has better range
the grip is not great on the Noosa 15s either, although it got better after 100 miles! The Noosa 16 have nice grip, so Asics know how to do it properly
I wish I could love the nb4 and 5 but they give me shin splints and knee pain. They are very comfortable.. Nike shoes are the only ones that allow me to run without injury though.
I have always had ASICS Gel Nimbus - currently have the 23. Any thoughts anyone on whether to replace with the Gel Nimbus 27, or switch to the Novablast 5? Or perhaps even go Hoka… say the Clifton 9? I’m just a beginner, quite heavy doing road running. Thanks all!

The GRM is softer than the Novablast 4 IMO at least in the forefoot landing. Novablast 5 is softer than both.
@@Fozzee.1970 Thanks for the feedback, I'll probably bite the bullet eventually 😂
Would love to see your review of ASICS new trail shoe with the carbon plate!!
I never understand the deal with wet weather and running shoes I never ever slip and slide just maybe be more careful
My Superblast is also superslippy on the wet. Not runable in wet, way to dangerous to get injured. No grip at all.
1 or 2? I found the grip better on the 2.
@@Fozzee.1970 The 1. Don't have the 2 because of this issue... Thinking about buyin the SL2.
I've run in both SL2 and SB2. I would say grip is about the same.
@@TomUK7 You do mean grip in the wet?
As of today (10 Dec) There are ZERO, as in no sizes or colours, of Mens NB5 on the UK Asics site. I guess somewhere a shipping container has gone missing for EVERYTYHING to be listed as "coming soon"
Ive been a big fan of Nb1-3 but I find myself slower in the 4th version. No idea why. Makes me question whether I'll get the 5th version if its softer...
Also as Ben mentioned in the video. The laces are RIDICULOUSLY long. I ended up chopping my down
I just bought the “3” version for dirt cheap . Really liking them!
Why not the 5? Not that much more money
@@georgeb7641 Are you kidding?? the NB3 are available for under £70!
@ it was €75 😄
I bought these shoes yesterday. I just need the one shoe to do everything (except trail). I’m not very fast so these will do nicely.
Had the 3 les and absolutely hated them.. been using the noosa tri (14/15) for most of my daily training and nimbus 25 for easy/ recovery runs but tempted to give the 5 another chance
love this colorway!
With the winter months, traction is a big requirement. Gotta say NO to this one until summer time. Should be on sale by then too.
7:34 “Surprisingly bad” 😂😂 - I’ve done a few runs in mine and really, really like them, the versatility and the low weight
it's been taking too long to arrive here in Canada (ontario)...sigh.....store here says they are expecting in January.....😦
You’ve sold them to me Ben, thanks! 😃
Santa is bringing me a pair… loved the V2s… how do you think the 5 compares?
novablast 5 Vs nimbus 27 for long runs?
Great vid Ben
Why oh why can't they nail the wet weather grippier outsole ?
Maybe a possible business opportunity for somebody !
Attaching a outsole that's safer on cobbles, drain covers, wet leaves etc !
Like the look of that trail version.
What's your projected bill for what 2025's unleashing ? 😂
Because they release a TR version too.
I might be wrong but I believe that novablast 4 had a 4/5mm? So 5 version has a bigger drop
Ben how soft are these relative to something like the New Balance More series?
Hi Ben, what would be the main difference between Novablast 5 en Superblast 2? Why should you choose the one or the other?
Do you think the softer foam could affect the lifetime of the shoe? Will it not last as long as the firmer Novablast 4?
Price point aside, can anyone say why i should get novablast 5 over the superblast 2?
I'm wondering the same - following
If you want a simpler shoe that‘s less clunky for slower daily training, where the Superblast might feel overkill (like a brick)
@@xDubFreak all the reviews say it’s actually really light and nimble for the bulky look, abit confusing
Which one you prefer for all rounder? Adidas Adizero Evo SL or Asics Novablast 5?
I had the Novablast 3, but that are forefoot strike, bring them back to the store. Is the 5 changed in that? I am a heel striker.
I do prefer a softer novablast now the superblast range exists. The original novablasts felt like they had a nice USP but now the Superblast exists I felt they can overlap but now the ASICS line has better range
I've completely blown out my tread on my version 4s. I'm only aggressively walking. Operating on foam at this point.
the grip is not great on the Noosa 15s either, although it got better after 100 miles! The Noosa 16 have nice grip, so Asics know how to do it properly
between 3 and 4 I definitely chose 3. but would I now prefer 5 over 3?
Great review also I wear size 15 and the superblast 2s only go to 13 😢but these look amaze
I wish I could love the nb4 and 5 but they give me shin splints and knee pain. They are very comfortable.. Nike shoes are the only ones that allow me to run without injury though.
Cheers for the review Ben can you recommend a similar shoe with better grip please 🙏
the novas are getting softer and softer. maybe time to start hoarding 3's.
The 3 is softer than 4
I don’t have any complaints about slipping, more about soaking socks.
im going crazy for daily trainer shoes out there novablast 5 / 1080v14 / EVO SL so hard to pick one
Wide width shoes are available in the US.
Thanks all!
I'm dying to get the Superblast 2 for my marathon in April, but failing that I might get these, any other recommendations for a neutral all rounder that I can run my marathon in, that is new out or due out early 2025.
get the Adidas Adios Pro 4 if you want new release or Pro 3 if u don’t mind old
@JanaKutliakova Im not sure about carbon plated trainers, does the Superblast 2 have a carbon plate?
No @@kevinlevinson9512
@@kevinlevinson9512no. Adidas Pros do have them and are ‘Super shoes’. The Lightstrike pro foam is quite hard though.
Nice review
