Thank you Mike for calling out the marketing gimmicks from the brands. This is one of the reason why I watch your videos, fairness! Congrats on the 200k subscribers!
I have always been imagining an Adizero shoe with a purely Lightstrike Pro midsole without any kind of rods in it. I'm so happy that Adidas made this shoe. It even looks like the Pro Evo 1 which is aesthetically stunning for me. I have ran 33km in the Evo SL as of this writing and I am really loving it. Great review as always. 😊
Thanks for the video, have fun in New York. I will say though, as even as someone who was initially really excited about the Evo SL, how they have done the release is really off putting with the extra early hype cycle and raffles for a chance to buy. More excited for the Novablast 5 because you'll actually be able to buy it
Cool that you got both. I was just wondering if it was some exclusive adidas room that I can't get in. Great to hear it was in the main hall and regular folks could buy. Was everything MSRP?
Yeah just go to their booth in the expo. It’s connected to a fleet feet so I imagine if the shoes don’t workout for you, you could return them to FF. Yes, MSRP.
Yoohh Been waiting for your review on this shoe, yes there are many reviewers post it already but I wait for this, more precise and have options! Btw Congrats on 200k+ 🎉🎉
Love your work Ko. Really looking forward to getting a pair of the Evo SL and also the incoming Adios 9. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the Takumi Sen recently and would like some rod-free, lower stack training and session companions to rotate thru. I have used the AP3 heaps in the past but recently I am finding the max stack height a bit of overkill for me as I get faster and more efficient. Pretty leaner runner here (~60kg) so the TS is feeling like the right amount of foam that I can actually compress properly.
Having run ~40 miles in the Evo SL and a variety of workouts, for me it's an amazing lightweight trainer or long run shoe but not an up tempo/ performance trainer. The LS Pro here is soft, without any complementary element, and doesn't have the bounce when it is pushed. Moreover, the soft and and flexible forefoot makes the angle of the rocker almost flat, so you don't have nay feel of propulsion. Hence, no "mechanical assistance".
sounds great. if it would make for a good long run shoe ( up to 25km for me) and it can handle daily it will be my jam. Everything speedy I will do in the TS10 which I love for that purpose.
@@jimoconnor8597 like, by durable i mean lightstrike pro maintains its properties for much longer than zoom x, especially since i am a heavy runner. Zoom x looses its bounciness fairly quickly compared to light strike pro or ff turbo.
Very nice video, thanks a lot! How does the Adizero Sl 2 compare to the Evo Sl as a daily trainer? Also in the Adidas app, the release date is december 12th (at least here in Germany). So maybe the hype or the pre drop (which was last week in Germany) was so big that they changed the release date for everyone. I really appreciate your videos, keep the good work up🙏
I think the March release was a bluff. Adidas wouldn't have increased production to such a degree that they're 4 months ahead of schedule, and they wouldn't have sat on stock for months. They can sustain the hype until December and stop people shopping elsewhere, except for high mileage runners/in desperate need of a shoe.
got lucky to get this early and this is now in my rotation along with my boston 12s. This is the perfect daily trainer for me since i found the invincible run 3 and rebel v4 very squishy. just perfect imho
Looks like this will cannibalize sales of the Boston -- which was _supposed_ to be the tempo trainer in the lineup lol. Faster, even without rods. Happy that poor B12 at least got mentioned. I'm thinking I might even pick the EVO SL over the venerable Novablast -- though the latter comes in snazzier colors.
It’s been a while since the Boston has gotten an update. I’m not sure where they can even take it without it becoming very redundant with another shoe in the lineup, but I think that’s pretty much a difficulty that adidas is accustomed to, as they have just so many models
Loved the video but I do think that the Boston handles fast paces well, at least for me! Wonder what the new stuff related to the Adios is, I had the Adios 7 and really loved it!
@ a do everything shoe for me (it can do easy although I don’t use it that way). That 60% rocker location is perfect for my feet…and removing the cut outs from midsole really ups the stability. I’ve started using carbon less and less for uptempo training work so it slots into where I would have worn those in the past.
I just got the shoe and It’s like the Pro 3 but in a more comfortable daily upper and without the spring in the toe off, other than that it’s almost identical. One thing to note is the outsole is thin .. much thinner than other dailies.
I have the SL2 and they're a fantastic shoe. Have a feeling they'd be a more durable shoe than these. If you can pick up a pair of the Takuni Sen 10s for around the same price as these EVOs I'd go with them. Edd Budd has a very good review of the Evo SL.
Please do an Asics Novablast 5 vs NB Rebel v4 vs Adidas Evo SL. When you do, please advise on the toe box width of the Adidas Evo SL. Great Indepth reviews you are doing.
I’ve tried these 3, owned the evo sl. I feel that the roomiest - toebox width @ widest and toebox width @ the big toe is the EVO SL. If i have to rank it will be evo sl, rebel v4 then nb5. As to the length, the lengthiest is the nb5, evo sl then rebel v4.
Was waiting for your comment on the fit, though at least to my experience it is the roomiest toebox in size 9US I’ve ever worn (as someone with a somewhat wide feet). This shoe could easily pickup the pace so ive designated it as my speed run shoe. Here’s my lineup so far: daily-SL2, Supertrainer-SB2, 5k/10k- VF3, Marathon- AP3, Recovery- Kayano31. Now considering to add rebelv4 or nb5 for daily.
Can't wait to try these. Although, I'll be waiting for the Pro 4 to part with my cash. Was a huge fan of the Pro 2 and 3. Pro 2 might still be my favourite running shoe, ever. 🏃♂️
I think Adidas has been struggling to figure out what to do with the Boston for a long time. Do I think the Boston _should_ be in the max cushion category? No Is that what Adidas made? I argue yes
2025 is going to be the era of the daily trainers with super high quality foam that can handle most types of runs. Plated "super trainers" are losing their appeal because of price and the fact that race shoes can do everything better. Thanks for another great review.
Kofuzi is solely responsible for me buying so many running shoes that I could do without.. On the other hand I can thank him for igniting my passion for running :)
The problem with this review is Adidas and everyday products on limited release. Why should I bother watching something I can't buy. It rubs consumers up the wrong way, creates bad vibes towards influencers who get sent things consumers can't buy ...net bad for nearly everyone. You me and Adidas who get no sales off the review. Otherwise good review as always.
All great reasons why I usually don’t like to review shoes until a couple weeks before it comes out. But with all the trickle drops, I felt like I needed to do this sooner than later
@@kofuzi I hear you. The blame lies with Adidas, just release the damn shoe in sufficient quantities to meet demand. They're throwing good money away .
As always. Great review. Looking at the Evo SL for my first marathon (3h35-3h45 target). Despite the big price difference, I would be interested in your thoughts on the Evo SL vs the New Balance Balos as I feel you would have used both similarly if the Balos wasn't causing you foot pain. Congrats on 200K!🎉
The outsole does not cover the outer forefoot. For those supinate, the midsole will definitely be exposed. But i know lightstrike is quite durable compared to zoomx.
Thanks for the review! This sounds like a cool looking shoe but not really needed. Any faster workouts could be done in older carbon race shoes. Long easy shoes are like Superblast (which can also be used for a bit faster stuff).
Kofuzi, how would you say it is vs Mach 6 for daily trainer? On paper both lightweight, somewhat aggressive rocker geo, and can do up temo but doent shine for hardest or longest efforts. Cant wait to try this on next spring though. Adidas really upped the game (at least on paper) with this shoe. The concept is great and the price is going to make it hard to beat. If it performs like i think cant see it not being a best seller.
I think the rebel v4 has the best shaore midsole for mild pronators. If i would give suggestion for jex version, is to make the stack height higher and embrace being a daily trainer. That's most critical for me
At the heel part, SL2 is more stable. I own both and have run significant miles on them. Fitwise SL2 is quite small, you can do half size up esp if you have a high volume foot or TTS if wear a thin socks. Feel wise, i feel sl2 becomes grounded on 5km mark of my run, feels little compressed after continuous days of use. So far, evo sl i’ve clocked in 50kms, i havent felt the “bottoming”, i mean the bounce feel/energy return is the same as when i first wore it.
Mike, you have mentioned on the last few iterations of the Boston that the shoe wasn't "Boston" enough - will this new formula produce the next Boston that's Boston enough for Boston training?
Thank you for the review. Can’t wait to lace these up. How would you compare them to the SL2? Been loving them for the last couple of months. Are they that different?
I suppose one way to look at them would be to say SL2 vs Evo SL are analogous to Peg vs Peg Plus. Although, I prefer the Adidas option in each instance
Nice video as always Michael. An unrelated note: chromatic aberration is so prominent in this video that it is at a point of being a major distraction. Maybe 200k subs is a good time to up the image quality? lol
I see you finally picked up a Brooks Aurora-BL in your Run Club segment. How are you getting along with it? Kind of fast and firm, but I loved the decoupled forefoot and hindfoot on that shoe. Plus, it looks like it's from the future.
Nice review. Easier decision for us in the UK because NB has extortionate prices, so this Evo SL stands alone in the price segment. I think I'll be picking it up.
@kofuzi take a look, often it’s the same as the dollar value, but in pounds. So that’s basically a 20-30% premium even taking into account us sales taxes.
I'm very excited to try this shoe, simply due to the heel cup/collar design. The traditional Adizero heel lockdown is TERRIBLE for me. But this shoe just seems like everything I'd want for the types of runs I'd intend to use it for. I was thinking about the Peg Turbo (plus....icky name), but thinking I'll hold out as long as I can unless Black Friday sales bring the price of the Peg Turbo down to earth a bit. Adidas are going to sell A LOT of this shoe...and it's going to be a PITA to get ahold of. :/
Can't wait for this! I used to Boston 12 as the daily trainer for 7 months and it good enough. But I'm looking for a non-carbon plated shoe. Is Evo SL a good choice for me?
I don't assign numerical scores, but I enjoy the 1080v14 less because of the changes to the experience. It's a different shoe than the 1080 versions I have enjoyed in the past. the weight has nothing to do with it. I have no idea, for example, whether it is heavier or lighter than any of its predecessors.
You sold me once you said some people may find it unstable. Those are hard to find in 2024. Novablast 1, Endorphin Speed 1&2…oh how I miss those “unstable” shoes.
Thanks Kofuzi! I *loved* the midsole of the Pro 3, but I found the upper really crushed my toes on longer runs so I relegated it to just a shorter workout shoe (which it's great at). How would you say the upper of the Evo SL compares to the Pro 3?
No raffles in Japan, just limited stock, but Adidas has put the price up to where Pegasus Plus' price is. Then again, NB 1080v14 is also priced as high as the Pegasus Plus. It's less and less affordable for a layperson here to reach for good daily trainers (Novablast is the only equivalently-priced-as-US daily trainer in Japan I think) but bought the Evo SL anyways lol
I haven’t seen many direct compairsons between the Evo SL and the Takumi Sen. Does the extra stack and lack of rods make a significant difference in the ride?
Thanks for the great review! Do you think this one can replace Boston 12 as a LSD trainer? I am thinking about a rotation for my next marathon build, and I plan to have superblast 2 for long run with workout miles, adios pro 4 for race, takumi sen 10 for intervals & VO2max, evo sl for LSD and SL 2 for daily miles. How do you like this?

Hi, Mike! How do these compare to the SL 2? I'm planning to buy a daily trainer for easy and long runs.
You sold me once you said some people may find it unstable. Those are hard to find in 2024. Novablast 1, Endorphin Speed 1&2…oh how I miss those “unstable” shoes.
Didn't know Bizzaro was in the market for running shoes.
Thanks Kofuzi! I *loved* the midsole of the Pro 3, but I found the upper really crushed my toes on longer runs so I relegated it to just a shorter workout shoe (which it's great at). How would you say the upper of the Evo SL compares to the Pro 3?
Thanks
Zoom fly 6 review and comparison maybe!?
Thanks for the review ! How the size is compare to SL2 ? My SL2 is EU 45 1/3. Evo SL an SL2 is the same size for you ?
Thaaanks ! 🤪
Surprised you didn't compare it to the superblast since both have full race foam.
$150 seems like bargain for that shoe! It looks 🔥🔥🔥 too!
No raffles in Japan, just limited stock, but Adidas has put the price up to where Pegasus Plus' price is. Then again, NB 1080v14 is also priced as high as the Pegasus Plus. It's less and less affordable for a layperson here to reach for good daily trainers (Novablast is the only equivalently-priced-as-US daily trainer in Japan I think) but bought the Evo SL anyways lol
hope you enjoy the miles!
@ Thank you! I certainly am - great shoe!
I haven’t seen many direct compairsons between the Evo SL and the Takumi Sen. Does the extra stack and lack of rods make a significant difference in the ride?
Hi Kofuzi, how does it feels if its compared with Supernova Rise? Would be appreciated your thoughts. Thanks 🙏🏽
Adios 9 amazing
I like your hoodie - which one is that?
