I was thinking I was the only one that noticed it. That was a serious turn off for me because I have the Surface Book 3 and I looooove it and don't miss the Macbook.
IMO old IBM thinkpad keyboards were the best in laptops. But they can’t compare on other aspects anymore, maybe expandability was better. I haven’t tried the new keyboard for Macs, but SP keyboard is way better than butterfly switched monstrosities. But then again I think they’re a tad worse than my retina MBP, but that could be just what I’m used to. Not on the move I use external mechanical keyboard anyhow. 🤷🏻♂️ Oh and these are always preferences, I know of a weird individual actually liking the butterfly switches over anything.... We don’t talk anymore, it was too late for him..
The three most important features of the Surface Book 3 are the touch screen, the use of a pen, and the ability to detach the screen and use it as a tablet. By themselves they blow the Macbook away and you hardly even mention it. We purchase our SurfaceBooks because we want to be able to use the touch screen and detach the screen to use a pen to write on the screen. And once you do, you will never want to go back to a regular laptop, not even a Macbook.
Depends if you need it. That said I use both and for me what's more important is reliability, and I might have gotten a bad one but it's absolutely awful on the Surface

I've watched a lot of reviewers and nearly every single one has commented about now being able to open it with a single finger unlike the previous surface book 2.. I think this guy does a poor job of reviewing is all.
Yes speaker test was interesting , the surface was low volume and tinny , and macbook was loud and sort of bassey , but at the same time still sounded less than good imo , crap probably wouldnt be bad word to describe either devices sound quality imo , And given the opportunity you would definitely fire up some aftermarket speakers of some description to replace the horrible audio on both devices , you would however pick the macbook speakers all day over the horrible surface speaker if stuck with stand alone audio . Microphone quality on the other hand was a clear win to the surface .
Well the speaker test was just total garbage because the microfon was hovering a meter over the devices.... The macbook has upwards facing speakers and the surface speakers are areanged at the head of the Person. Sooooo if you wanna do the test better but the microfon at the position of your head.
As someone who uses both macOS and Windows and has a MB Pro and a Surface Book, I feel that I can speak objectively about these magnificent offerings. My SB is by far the most versatile of the 2 devices, in fact, it's the most versatile device I've ever used - period. The SB (at least with my configuration) is slightly less powerful than the MB, but this is only noticeable exporting or rendering video. But as an IT Consultant/Developer rendering speeds are of little consequence to me. My MB is simply amazing, and everything just feels 'right' about it. When I'm working on my mac, I feel like I'm creating art. On my SB it's like I'm creating work. One thing I will say about the trackpads is that, in my opinion, the SB's trackpad is far superior to the MB's. It might just be be me, but MB trackpads feel strange, All in all, if I had to chose one device, it'd have to be the SB. I can do 90% of the things I do on my MB with my SB, but only about 40% of the things I need to do on my SB on my MB.
'Chassis is aluminium'. No it is made from a magnesium alloy. 'Wonder if I can charge this through the usb-c port'. Yes you can. 'It is a bummer because you can't connect an egpu'. There is no point, because there is already a very good dedicated gpu built in. And that is only 2.5 minutes into the video. 2 minutes of Googling would have been sufficient to avoid these basic errors/flaws. Pity, because it does not inspire much confidence in the rest of the video to come.
Also a favorite line of mine in the video, mac comes with 512gb ssd while most surfaces only come with 256gb... Ugh. You can get 512 on the surface and it costs less than the ungodly prices apple charges for storage (both ram and ssd). Idk how some "tech" reviewers can spout the things they do.

Really misunderstood. You dont need to connect external GPUs to the Surface Book... you dont bring external GPU housing with you. At home you have something more powerful. Surface Book can for many people replace your tablet, since the screen is detachable and it has touch and pen. WAY better GFX on Surface Book. CPU in pretty much all workflows just 5-10% slower. Keyboard on Surface Book is simply better.

So i dont really need good desktop, It is a product I need more than anything else that I need to keep carrying outside for work, good battery time, can use as note, can use as tablet that is what i need. i've never been a fan of eGPU's I never tried one for myself. but if you are willing to carry a case around, why buy a laptop in the first place if you are going to ground it because your eGPU needs a plug. just buy a iMac or something it wil be cheaper than a mbp and a eGPU.
This was a poor comparison between these two laptops. The Surface Book has a far superior keyboard and the body is magnesium, not aluminum. That said, the Surface tis hands down the better product.

Please, stop using the old Microsoft Edge in these tests because the whole browser is slower and less reliable than anything else, so the test doesn't shows accurate measurement. Use the new chromium-based Edge instead. It will be accurate and can be downloaded for Mac so you can test the web performance in the same browser in both devices.
@@jfresh2054 I was going to get the Mac Pro , but half of my engineering softwares are not supported by iOS. The Surface book it is for me. I don’t care much for the tablet feature but having a full tablet and a full laptop with the same or better specs as the a Mac book pro makes the choice easy. Plus I love higher resolution (267 PPI) on the book.
I just had a major software problem with the surface book recently and isn’t able to read the ssd, Microsoft refuses to help so unfortunately switching back to Mac

The Surface book 3 hinge does support 1 handed opening, it's just held together by magnets to keep it closed. the surface laptop does as well. tbh microsoft is the one that really pushed that standard with the original surface laptop.
This video should have been the comparison of macbook Pro vs surface laptop 3 instead of book 3. It's altogether a different device, you always find ways to make apple look better. Of course it's a 2 in 1. It's performance will be less than a pure laptop. When you compare it with surface laptop it's when the playground is equal and not biased.

Very true. While SB3 has some issues, it's keyboard is not one of them. The most comfortably typing experience I've had on a laptop. Stable keys, nice travel, just comfy on the hands.
Apple needs to listen to the community. An apple laptop is not a "Pro" device without a dedicated GPU. Integrated graphics is fine for the MacBook Air but not for anything with a "Pro" label. This cannot be stated often enough! :-)
true true litterly the reason why I bought the 16" i personally think they should rename the MacBook Pro 13" to MacBook. no dedicated graphics 8th gen i5 8 gb ram 256gb storage. the build quality is the best of the best tho, that's the only thing that could justify the "pro" tag
The Surface Book does not perform well under sustained loads because the chip used is of a lower TDP because it is designed to be able to run in tablet mode as well so it draws less power by design, unlike MacBook Pro which has a higher TDP chip and only runs in laptop mode.
if you compare them by specs, Surface laptops are actually a bit cheaper if not on par with MacBooks... and you usually get additional functionality. With my Surface Book I don't need an iPad for my tablet needs... so I also saved at least 400$ there... The comparison in this video was not on equal grounds... so you get more bang for your buck with the Surface...

Just got my 13” MacBook Pro base model and was loving it for the first couple of hours. Now the hard drive is filling up for no apparent reason and I can’t stop it. Fans running constantly. 4 hours old and I’m already frustrated.
Photos in iCloud is probably enabled and it's storing the photos onto your storage drive. Disable the function and you'll get your storage back. That might fix the fan issue as well. -Vadim
Max Tech appreciate it!! That at least points me in the right direction on where to start. Apple support has been less than helpful. They had me erase my hard drive and reinstall macOS... currently finishing that and hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here
IMHO Maybe I’m missing something, but this seems incredibly inefficient. Why not just keep everything on the iCloud and download as I need it? Instead of waiting for the SSD to fill up before having that as an option.
The thing with the Surface Book is that most people that want the laptop, is also the only choice. If you consider a regular laptop, that means you have no intention of taking advantage of the crazy engineering feat that went into the Book. Go for the Dell. The Surface Book is meant for using most of its capabilities, otherwise you are just wasting money.
@@aliburney4072 agreed. I have been using my Surface Book since 2016 and I live it. It has over 800 cycles on the battery but it still last quite good. I detach the tablet daily to watch a movie, read or sketch. Otherwise I use it as a laptop for 3D modeling, rendering and office related stuff. I will definitely upgrade to another SB.
The surface 13" does not have a fan in the tablet portion it is only passively cooled, thats why it only runs at ~15w sustained. I don't know how you could have "heard the fan" during a cinabench test
You are both wrong, do some basic research. The only fan is in the base to cool the GPU for the 13" model. Only the 15" model has a fan in the tablet portion to cool the CPU

In my opinion, buy the surface book 3. The specs and overall experience of the laptop is far better and for professionals it is a useful tool compared to the MacBook. Not to mention also, the surface book 3 is a 2-in-1 with a touch screen, something that apple really hasn’t considered making besides the iPad Pro, which is a hybrid between 2-in-1 laptop and tablet
Wow, the Book 3 might actually be the first Windows laptop that gives the same graphics performance when not plugged in (though, the CPU does lower its performance when in tablet mode).
Alex I think it defeats the purpose of having a laptop if you need to plug it in to have the best performance. You probably better off buying a desktop. Btw the new 5300m and 5500m are actually pretty solid options. 5500m sits in between 1650 and 1660 while consuming significantly less power thanks to its 7nm architecture. Also the fact that you can get a 8g of vram for just 100 bucks more is awesome for large video files and 3D applications.
@@random_bit The new Radeon Pro 5600M option for the 16" Macbook Pro actually outperforms a 90W RTX 2060 while using 40W less power, because it has 40CU's and uses HBM2 memory. It's a REALLY, really efficient chip. But Apple Silicon will be even more efficient than that. And no, I did know what NVidia Optimus is. But that technology has existed (not NVidia Optimus specifically, but switching between dGPU and iGPU) on Macbooks for years. YES, you wouldn't be able to put an RTX 2080 Max-Q or Super Max-Q in a Macbook Pro, but I would argue the existence and especially the commonality of that card among laptop manufacturers is questionable for me. Imo laptops that pull more wattage than their batteries can provide should be only thick workstation laptops and nothing else. The Dell XPS 17, for example, draws as much as 180W from the wall and even when plugged in the 130W power brick can't provide enough power so the laptop drains the battery at the same time as well. Like, that's just dumb. That laptop is supposed to be a MOBILE work (video & photo editing, design, etc.) machine. If you're a 10 pound gaming laptop, sure, pull as much power from the wall as you want and use 2 RTX 2080's in SLI. But the ones that use relatively lower power components are also going full-throttle (there are mobile 1660Ti's that draw 115W) and that's what I'm against.

This was the review I have been waiting for!!! Max can you make a video comparing these two when it comes to creative work? (lightroom, video editing, etc) Was thinking about picking up the surface book but after watching this review I am reconsidering- don't like the reflective screen,speakers,storage options and the price is a little steep but makes sense due to the gpu. Might pick up the 1799 macbook instead?
Macbook screens have really bad reflective coating issues after 4-6 months of usage, at which point you much rather have no antireflective coating at all. (Here is an image to show you what it looks like: imgur.com/a/4f2Uo22 ) So in my book it's actually a point off for macbook. The surface book hinge looks hideous to me though
cat -.- mine is 7 years old, weirdly the coating looks pretty similar, meaning not too much worse. Only the key cap prints and that weird longer line near middle.
Andy Liu I guess if you have a soft protective cloth or something in between when you close the laptop you won’t get that wear. Now I understand why some people always have them. But it’s already too late for my baby.

Nope, you would go for the lowest end Surface (Book or Pro), put in a MicroSDXC card and spend the money on a AMD workstation with lots of RAM and a dedicated video card. May cost a bit more but runs circles around any MBP...

Wouldn’t a fairer comparison be between the 2020 13” MacBook Pro (10th gen Intel) and Microsoft Surface Book 3 without the dedicated graphics. At least could have tried using an external gpu to make it even.
The comparison itself makes no sense in my opinion. The Surface Book is all about graphics and versatility. It has a detachable touchscreen, it was never made to outperform a MacBook Pro. Still, it does a very good job at it.
siwi true, but I was just saying that it would have been a more fair comparison between two computers with internal gpu, not one with and the other without. Many PCs are touch screen which is unavoidable when comparing. For performance, it would have made more sense to compare and contrast a 13” MacBook Pro with a Surface Book 3 without the dedicated gpu option. To me, that kinda gives an advantage over the MacBook Pro. Actually, the Surface Laptop 3 probably makes more sense to compare because both are laptops with internal, no dedicated gpu’s 🤷♂️. @@sambitsaha3608 If you compare the prices the both offer, say you buy the base model for both laptops, compared to the xps you're really not getting your money's worth if you purchase a MacBook. in 8/10 areas the xps will outperform the MacBook. But yeah if you're heavy content creator and you need a software like final cut pro, then that's where the MacBook seems the better choice. In almost every single other area, the XPS wins hands down.

I don't think he reviewed the screen in an honest way. Most websites I've visited including laptopmag all state the screen is closer to 399-420 nits brightness and the color gamut much higher than he stated in this video.
GTX 1650- say no more. You can do gaming and everything else with SB3. I have the SB2 and love it, and by the way, I have never noticed the speakers being so quiet that I can't watch a movie with it. That was a misleading comment.

I really hate apples huge trackpads that are always in the way, when I'm typing or just scrolling for long periods of time I have to keep my hand/arm in a position that gives me pain. Also you literally never have to click on a trackpad... last time it was necessary was in 2013
Please be advised if you want much louder sound from the Surface Book 3 attach a Surface Dock, increases volume significantly. Don't forget to actually plug the headphones into the Surface dock's headphone jack.

Its simple why Microsoft chooses to keep temps down: the batteries don't like it hot. Most users who want much storage but don't want to pay for the higher-end models just put a MicroSDXC via a special tray into the base... . Too bad Microsoft doesn't offer BTO, but this may due to their business size and distribution model. BTW: please test Surface products always with the pen. I don't know anyone who considers a Surface if not for using pen input. Otherwise there are plenty of options in the Windows camp...

Unfortunately there isn't enough demand for us to grab the i7 just for that comparison. Won't be worth it. But in past experience, you get 5% or less improvement in processor performance for $200 which is not worth it. That money is better spent on a larger SSD. -Vadim
Okay, that's true... but one or two USB C ports would have been useful either way. Tho, actually, it's not important anyways because the tablet as a standalone device doesnt really have good battery life so you wont use it much like this.
I like Apple products’ quality overall but the biased evaluation was certainly obvious in this vid especially when he mentioned the keyboard lol. The credibility just went down the drain unfortunately.
XPS 13 2 in 1 with i7 32+512 config costs only $1700 compared to $2500 of Surface Book 3. It's also cheaper to run former on external GPU that overpowers 1650 Max Q.
first year using a macbook pro coming from many different surface laptops , tablets ect. and im happy im using a macbook , the surface gets laggy after time , disconnecting the screen gets laggy too over time and the battery went bad soo many times on my surfaces , i had to always call for my warranty with those things
whats the battery life of both? Also, I really wanted a macbook pro for school but the battery stated by various reviews only state it at 5-6 hours so could you confirm?

As someone who uses both macOS and Windows and has a MB Pro and a Surface Book, I feel that I can speak objectively about these magnificent offerings.
My SB is by far the most versatile of the 2 devices, in fact, it's the most versatile device I've ever used - period. The SB (at least with my configuration) is slightly less powerful than the MB, but this is only noticeable exporting or rendering video. But as an IT Consultant/Developer rendering speeds are of little consequence to me. My MB is simply amazing, and everything just feels 'right' about it.
When I'm working on my mac, I feel like I'm creating art. On my SB it's like I'm creating work.
One thing I will say about the trackpads is that, in my opinion, the SB's trackpad is far superior to the MB's. It might just be be me, but MB trackpads feel strange,
All in all, if I had to chose one device, it'd have to be the SB. I can do 90% of the things I do on my MB with my SB, but only about 40% of the things I need to do on my SB on my MB.

'It is a bummer because you can't connect an egpu'. There is no point, because there is already a very good dedicated gpu built in.

2 minutes of Googling would have been sufficient to avoid these basic errors/flaws. Pity, because it does not inspire much confidence in the rest of the video to come.
Also a favorite line of mine in the video, mac comes with 512gb ssd while most surfaces only come with 256gb... Ugh. You can get 512 on the surface and it costs less than the ungodly prices apple charges for storage (both ram and ssd). Idk how some "tech" reviewers can spout the things they do.
@@wade1359 He never said you can't get a 512Gb Surface, but that you are forced to upgrade to 32Gb RAM at same time, so you pay $500 more, which is pricey if you don't care about extra RAM
@@Bilmonis true but in comparison. On the macpro you already pay that similar price for a ram upgrade alone. Apple has exuberant pricing on memory. At least for the 500 you get the ssd and ram upgrade. Not saying it isn't pricey though, cuz it for sure is.

Really misunderstood. You dont need to connect external GPUs to the Surface Book... you dont bring external GPU housing with you. At home you have something more powerful.
Surface Book can for many people replace your tablet, since the screen is detachable and it has touch and pen.
WAY better GFX on Surface Book. CPU in pretty much all workflows just 5-10% slower.
Keyboard on Surface Book is simply better.
You really don't need an external GPU, if you need one you'll be better of getting a desktop. I don't know where all the craze comes from

This was a poor comparison between these two laptops. The Surface Book has a far superior keyboard and the body is magnesium, not aluminum. That said, the Surface tis hands down the better product.

Please, stop using the old Microsoft Edge in these tests because the whole browser is slower and less reliable than anything else, so the test doesn't shows accurate measurement. Use the new chromium-based Edge instead. It will be accurate and can be downloaded for Mac so you can test the web performance in the same browser in both devices.
I think Macbook should be tested with Safari and not edge, since that is its native browser

@@jfresh2054 I was going to get the Mac Pro , but half of my engineering softwares are not supported by iOS. The Surface book it is for me. I don’t care much for the tablet feature but having a full tablet and a full laptop with the same or better specs as the a Mac book pro makes the choice easy. Plus I love higher resolution (267 PPI) on the book.
I just had a major software problem with the surface book recently and isn’t able to read the ssd, Microsoft refuses to help so unfortunately switching back to Mac

The Surface book 3 hinge does support 1 handed opening, it's just held together by magnets to keep it closed. the surface laptop does as well. tbh microsoft is the one that really pushed that standard with the original surface laptop.

It's altogether a different device, you always find ways to make apple look better. Of course it's a 2 in 1. It's performance will be less than a pure laptop.

Very true. While SB3 has some issues, it's keyboard is not one of them. The most comfortably typing experience I've had on a laptop. Stable keys, nice travel, just comfy on the hands.

Apple needs to listen to the community. An apple laptop is not a "Pro" device without a dedicated GPU. Integrated graphics is fine for the MacBook Air but not for anything with a "Pro" label. This cannot be stated often enough! :-)

The Surface Book does not perform well under sustained loads because the chip used is of a lower TDP because it is designed to be able to run in tablet mode as well so it draws less power by design, unlike MacBook Pro which has a higher TDP chip and only runs in laptop mode.

I don’t like Surface Laptops, I think they are expensive for their specs, compared with other windows laptops and with the MacBook
if you compare them by specs, Surface laptops are actually a bit cheaper if not on par with MacBooks... and you usually get additional functionality. With my Surface Book I don't need an iPad for my tablet needs... so I also saved at least 400$ there...
The comparison in this video was not on equal grounds... so you get more bang for your buck with the Surface...

Just got my 13” MacBook Pro base model and was loving it for the first couple of hours. Now the hard drive is filling up for no apparent reason and I can’t stop it. Fans running constantly. 4 hours old and I’m already frustrated.
Photos in iCloud is probably enabled and it's storing the photos onto your storage drive. Disable the function and you'll get your storage back. That might fix the fan issue as well. -Vadim
Max Tech appreciate it!! That at least points me in the right direction on where to start. Apple support has been less than helpful. They had me erase my hard drive and reinstall macOS... currently finishing that and hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here
IMHO Maybe I’m missing something, but this seems incredibly inefficient. Why not just keep everything on the iCloud and download as I need it? Instead of waiting for the SSD to fill up before having that as an option.
I would get the surface book 3 but them bezels are still a little chunky for 2020 standards. I would get the dell xps 17

You don't want thin bezels in a tablet, there's a reason even the ipad pro kept them.
The thing with the Surface Book is that most people that want the laptop, is also the only choice. If you consider a regular laptop, that means you have no intention of taking advantage of the crazy engineering feat that went into the Book. Go for the Dell. The Surface Book is meant for using most of its capabilities, otherwise you are just wasting money.
I would only recommend the SB3 for creatives and people that will get use out of a 2-in-1 otherwise go with XPS
@@aliburney4072 agreed. I have been using my Surface Book since 2016 and I live it. It has over 800 cycles on the battery but it still last quite good. I detach the tablet daily to watch a movie, read or sketch. Otherwise I use it as a laptop for 3D modeling, rendering and office related stuff. I will definitely upgrade to another SB.
The surface 13" does not have a fan in the tablet portion it is only passively cooled, thats why it only runs at ~15w sustained. I don't know how you could have "heard the fan" during a cinabench test
You are both wrong, do some basic research. The only fan is in the base to cool the GPU for the 13" model. Only the 15" model has a fan in the tablet portion to cool the CPU
Do a 16” MacBook Pro vs the 15” surface book please. I’m due for a upgrade and i have narrowed it down to these 2.

In my opinion, buy the surface book 3. The specs and overall experience of the laptop is far better and for professionals it is a useful tool compared to the MacBook. Not to mention also, the surface book 3 is a 2-in-1 with a touch screen, something that apple really hasn’t considered making besides the iPad Pro, which is a hybrid between 2-in-1 laptop and tablet
Wow, the Book 3 might actually be the first Windows laptop that gives the same graphics performance when not plugged in (though, the CPU does lower its performance when in tablet mode).
Alex I think it defeats the purpose of having a laptop if you need to plug it in to have the best performance. You probably better off buying a desktop. Btw the new 5300m and 5500m are actually pretty solid options. 5500m sits in between 1650 and 1660 while consuming significantly less power thanks to its 7nm architecture. Also the fact that you can get a 8g of vram for just 100 bucks more is awesome for large video files and 3D applications.
@@random_bit The new Radeon Pro 5600M option for the 16" Macbook Pro actually outperforms a 90W RTX 2060 while using 40W less power, because it has 40CU's and uses HBM2 memory. It's a REALLY, really efficient chip. But Apple Silicon will be even more efficient than that.
And no, I did know what NVidia Optimus is. But that technology has existed (not NVidia Optimus specifically, but switching between dGPU and iGPU) on Macbooks for years. YES, you wouldn't be able to put an RTX 2080 Max-Q or Super Max-Q in a Macbook Pro, but I would argue the existence and especially the commonality of that card among laptop manufacturers is questionable for me. Imo laptops that pull more wattage than their batteries can provide should be only thick workstation laptops and nothing else. The Dell XPS 17, for example, draws as much as 180W from the wall and even when plugged in the 130W power brick can't provide enough power so the laptop drains the battery at the same time as well. Like, that's just dumb. That laptop is supposed to be a MOBILE work (video & photo editing, design, etc.) machine. If you're a 10 pound gaming laptop, sure, pull as much power from the wall as you want and use 2 RTX 2080's in SLI. But the ones that use relatively lower power components are also going full-throttle (there are mobile 1660Ti's that draw 115W) and that's what I'm against.

Was thinking about picking up the surface book but after watching this review I am reconsidering- don't like the reflective screen,speakers,storage options and the price is a little steep but makes sense due to the gpu. Might pick up the 1799 macbook instead?
Macbook screens have really bad reflective coating issues after 4-6 months of usage, at which point you much rather have no antireflective coating at all. (Here is an image to show you what it looks like: imgur.com/a/4f2Uo22 ) So in my book it's actually a point off for macbook. The surface book hinge looks hideous to me though

Nope, you would go for the lowest end Surface (Book or Pro), put in a MicroSDXC card and spend the money on a AMD workstation with lots of RAM and a dedicated video card. May cost a bit more but runs circles around any MBP...

Wouldn’t a fairer comparison be between the 2020 13” MacBook Pro (10th gen Intel) and Microsoft Surface Book 3 without the dedicated graphics. At least could have tried using an external gpu to make it even.
The comparison itself makes no sense in my opinion. The Surface Book is all about graphics and versatility. It has a detachable touchscreen, it was never made to outperform a MacBook Pro. Still, it does a very good job at it.
siwi true, but I was just saying that it would have been a more fair comparison between two computers with internal gpu, not one with and the other without. Many PCs are touch screen which is unavoidable when comparing. For performance, it would have made more sense to compare and contrast a 13” MacBook Pro with a Surface Book 3 without the dedicated gpu option. To me, that kinda gives an advantage over the MacBook Pro. Actually, the Surface Laptop 3 probably makes more sense to compare because both are laptops with internal, no dedicated gpu’s 🤷♂️. Oh well, it’s TH-cam and you gotta get the views somehow lol.

@@sambitsaha3608 If you compare the prices the both offer, say you buy the base model for both laptops, compared to the xps you're really not getting your money's worth if you purchase a MacBook. in 8/10 areas the xps will outperform the MacBook. But yeah if you're heavy content creator and you need a software like final cut pro, then that's where the MacBook seems the better choice. In almost every single other area, the XPS wins hands down.

I don't think he reviewed the screen in an honest way. Most websites I've visited including laptopmag all state the screen is closer to 399-420 nits brightness and the color gamut much higher than he stated in this video.
This reviewer is very bias towards Mac. Maybe look at another review because the surface book 3 is a beast
GTX 1650- say no more. You can do gaming and everything else with SB3. I have the SB2 and love it, and by the way, I have never noticed the speakers being so quiet that I can't watch a movie with it. That was a misleading comment.

Touch screen can easily justify the price difference.
I really hate apples huge trackpads that are always in the way, when I'm typing or just scrolling for long periods of time I have to keep my hand/arm in a position that gives me pain. Also you literally never have to click on a trackpad... last time it was necessary was in 2013

Please be advised if you want much louder sound from the Surface Book 3 attach a Surface Dock, increases volume significantly. Don't forget to actually plug the headphones into the Surface dock's headphone jack.

Its simple why Microsoft chooses to keep temps down: the batteries don't like it hot. Most users who want much storage but don't want to pay for the higher-end models just put a MicroSDXC via a special tray into the base... . Too bad Microsoft doesn't offer BTO, but this may due to their business size and distribution model.
BTW: please test Surface products always with the pen. I don't know anyone who considers a Surface if not for using pen input. Otherwise there are plenty of options in the Windows camp...

Unfortunately there isn't enough demand for us to grab the i7 just for that comparison. Won't be worth it. But in past experience, you get 5% or less improvement in processor performance for $200 which is not worth it. That money is better spent on a larger SSD. -Vadim

You can use the Surface Dock with the Surface Book tablet portion and gain ports that way.
Okay, that's true... but one or two USB C ports would have been useful either way.
Tho, actually, it's not important anyways because the tablet as a standalone device doesnt really have good battery life so you wont use it much like this.

I like Apple products’ quality overall but the biased evaluation was certainly obvious in this vid especially when he mentioned the keyboard lol. The credibility just went down the drain unfortunately.

first year using a macbook pro coming from many different surface laptops , tablets ect. and im happy im using a macbook , the surface gets laggy after time , disconnecting the screen gets laggy too over time and the battery went bad soo many times on my surfaces , i had to always call for my warranty with those things

whats the battery life of both? Also, I really wanted a macbook pro for school but the battery stated by various reviews only state it at 5-6 hours so could you confirm?
I use my 2020 (10th gen) MacBook Pro all day at work without charging it... decent use over 8ish hours and it's at like 30% when im done.
Everything about that surfacebook 3 is perfect except for when you shut it down completely and it still drain the battery to 0 in 1 week.
About to exchange the MacBook Pro for Surface because when attached to an external monitor it gets waaaay too hot. Wtf Apple?!
