Larrin's chart is just one protocol for each steel and the protocol he chose. Their are many ways and protocols to heat treat steel. So his chart can be misleading. Especially when mass manufactures do not use the same protocols he does. And most mass manufactures use different protocols than each other for the same steel names.
Most mass manufactures don't care about doing anything better. They dont care about you, they just want to sell product in mass to make money.
Triple B said, let me find a company that cares and make them care even more. Use a custom protocol for mass production (even if its on a small batch or two).
Also rope, catra, cardboard testing can differ.

I’m using a guided system with 140, 400, 600 and 1200 atoma diamond plates, then stropping with 1 micron diamond paste.

I'm having the same issue with a similar setup

What worked for me was going through several different strops. I really worked it on a 5 micron paste, then a 2.5 micron paste, both not diamonds because that’s all I have at the moment, then a 1 micron diamond spray. But try several small steps for the strops. I couldn’t just jump from a 1200 grit atoma plate to a 1 micron diamond strop. Ideally, if you have a few diamond sprays that are larger than 1 micron and you progress down, you should be fine. Also, all my stropping was done freehand. Good luck.@@grantgregory7618

Amazing. I’ve been carrying mine since I got it and love it.
