  • I will be honest I had never heard of Nick Drake before I sat down to check this album out, but I had been recommended to check out this tight 28 minute project many times. Not knowing what to expect and starting with the title track "Pink Moon" I was immediately sent to a world within Nick's mind. With the power of song writing and vulnerability Nick took me on a journey I won't be quick to forget. Join me this week as I check out Nick's last album "Pink Moon" after finding out he left the music world too soon. RIP Nick Drake thank you for this amazing piece.
My name is Jack and I love music, in particular Hip Hop, I decided to make this channel as a way to engage with other music lovers and because there doesn't seem to be a lot of reaction channels on TH-cam...My goal has always been to be open to all types of music regardless of my love of Hip Hop, on this channel you can expect a rich array of genres. If you're keen to join me on my music journey then please subscribe, if you ever want to give your thoughts on an album or song that I have reacted to, then please do. Glad to see you react to this. Pink Moon is Nick Drake at his most minimalistic, Bryter Layer in particular has much more varied instrumentation. His entire short discography is worth checking out!

There is a breathy softness to Nick's voice that just hugs you and puts you at peace. What a talent that left us too soon. Clothes of Sand is my favorite Nick Drake song.

I love this album a lot. Nick Drake has been huge in my recent music influence. I really enjoy the minimalistic approach from this album but my favourite is Five Leaves left which is still very acoustic but it also puts in some pretty orchestration in some tracks too. I find it very unfortunate that we lost him so young and he will never know how adored he is now.

This is a perfect start to the contemporary folk rabbit hole. If you want to listen to more experimental albums in this field, then In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel and The Glow, Pt.2 by The Microphones are both incredible, and would make for great reactions. Some other great folk artists include Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsom, and Fleet Foxes.

You've just heard the one album his family found it hard to listen to. Remember, Nick was stricken with mental illness in the last five years of his life. From the great Richard Thompson: "I was disturbed. Part of what had made Nick’s earlier music so appealing was a balance between dark and light. The sadness inherent in the music had been veiled behind beautiful arrangements and an intriguing voice that drew you in. However, his third album seemed a stark cry for help, the voice of a man teetering on the edge of sanity.”

I don't know how into reacting to an instrumental album you are but I would recommend American Don by Don Caballero, one of the most creative albums I have ever heard :)
also yeah Pink Moon is such an amazing album and hits even harder when you know what happens to him 2 years after this album

His albums are all beautiful. Check Five Leaves and Bryter as well. This is easily his most insular, so if you're looking for something different, check the others.

I thank you for reacting to Pink Moon. It’s instantly one of my all-time favourite albums on first listen. Nick Drake’s music is so beautiful, yet sadly unknown in today’s generation. I’m a Generation Z, and his music gives me happiness, peace and hope in the world. Nick Drake shall forever be loved and cherished by the fans who listen to him and the people that’ve gotten to know his music overtime.
I’m now proud to say that I’m finally subscribed.

Check out 5 LEAVES LEFT by Nick Drake - his finest album. I was working at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre and dropped in to a nearby pub and was waiting for an old friend and Nick Drake came on the sound. Next to me was a guy who made some positive comments about the music - I told him that I was lucky enough to see Nick as a support act - painfully shy and looking at his feet throughout. He told me he was a huge fan. My friend arrived and turns out the guy was Richard Hawley! No mean songwriter himself. On 5 LEAVES LEFT there are some amazing orchestral arrangements and the depth of the writing is stunning. His sister is actress Gabrielle Drake. John Cale on piano

His second album Bryter Layter is a great listen too, same style of songwriting but more diverse instrumentals

I fell in love with Nick Drake's work as a teenager. Some really beautiful work. There are probably only a couple of singer songwriters who I enjoy more; Leonard Cohen (Songs of Love and Hate, The Future, You want it Darker) and Tom Mcrae (Did I Sleep and Miss the Border?, Ah, the World! Oh, the World!).

I love that people are still discovering Nick Drake in 2023. Please do yourself a favour and listen to his other two albums (plus the posthumous release).
Also give Jackson C Frank and Rodriguez a go. They’re not there technically like Nick was but I can’t see why anyone who enjoys Nick wouldn’t enjoy those two as well.

Hey a recommendation is Spanish? You could listen to Mon Laferte (first album) or just her beautiful song "Tu falta de querer" should definitely try. ❤ Would love to see your honest reaction 💯

Love the similarities between Subterranean Homesick Alien and Parasite. Big influence here, it's brilliant. Keep it up with the good reactions man! You should definitely give a listen to Portishead, you're gonna love them. Greetings from Argentina
